my car broke down an hour from home last night and I had to limp the car to my sister's place about 20 minutes away stopping every few minutes to recharge the battery with jumper cables so I didn't get home until like 4am and didn't get to sleep until about 5 and so I was awake for about 25 hours and I only got about 5 hours of sleep and now I need to fix the stupid car AGAIN and it's the fuckin alternator AGAIN which takes about 6 hours to replace and also I don't know why it failed 2ish months after I replaced it and also my entire body hurts especially my feet because my ebike battery fell off the counter onto BOTH of them when I got to work so if someone could uncurse me that would be fantastic thank you

but hey I found a $5 bill on the ground on my way to work so I got that goin for me which is nice

It has two batteries and it makes it long range it's a mid drive motor and it has two shocks in the back two in the front and it is an outrageously great bike truthfully it is mid engine yeah and the mileage is about 150 with 150 lb person is there a sun on it would be about 90 miles which is plenty says you can probably just take those batteries out and put new ones in and the batteries are not gang batteries they're lithium it's not really a massively high quality that's why it's inexpensive if you put two high quality lithium in and you can get it to work somehow it'll go like 300 miles and in the city they do that no you don't have to but here in the states they would and it goes as far as a car on the fill up and you can rapid charge this is the cheapest bike that's electric I've seen it in my life it should be cheap they're not expensive to me and wonder how they can get it here and you're going to and the name of the bike is

It's really not bad and I have tried it and it works and I weigh around 200 lb and it went 80 miles on a charge which is plenty and it takes 30 minutes to charge 45 if you empty it but really you never really empty it cuz you can't no I've seen things before this is great this this has to take off if it doesn't to definitely is a big problem

honestly 2024 has really sucked a lot in several dimensions for me personally, including the number of issues I had with my ebike (my main transportation), my family's health, my pet's health, my workplace, and therefore my mental health.

There have been some extremely good bits too - I learned to knit and made some cool things, and I went to Iceland again and saw amazing auroras and met awesome people.

But damn, this has been a tough year.

Helios chapter 1

January POV

“All ready?” me and Finn are sitting in the IT room at the central computer. It's a humongous, expensive screen that radiates gleams in the claustrophobic, dark room.

“Yup,” they respond, rolling their chair away from the screen so I can see. The only words are “start recording?”

The cold desert of TRAPPIST-1 f stretches out beyond the windows of the main lobby. Our ship sits near the edge of a cliff leading down to a gigantic river which connects to every other body of water on the planet. Because of the tidal lock, the sky is stained with an orange glow and the thin smell of twilight.

“Everyone ready? We landed about 5 miles away from The Domes so we’ll go by ebike,” Stick says while putting on his brown jacket. We load up our blasters, set up our bikes (mine is red!!!), and ride off toward the domes. Me and the princess ride together and to my disappointment, she doesn’t have her muffle on.

“Well this is just great, I'm getting dust in my eyes and I don’t trust you enough to not crash into something. And of course helmets were just too expensive! With the ransom they’re going to give you, you would think that you can afford something as necessary as helmets! How do you think SipC would feel if the princess was dead before they even got to arrange a ransom price!”

“Please stop talking. I thought I was the one holding you hostage, now it feels like I'm at gunpoint in my own vehicle,” I sigh. I didn’t think she was the chatty type.

“Good, I'm glad to hear this is working then. So then, if you would just leave me right here then it would all end”

“Tempting but no thanks; I didn’t travel 14 parsecs to TRAPPIST-1f just for me to drop you off in the middle of the desert,” I say. Of course, this doesn’t stop her from complaining about every little thing, but eventually I block it out by noticing the beauty of the landscape. In the distance is Afterglow City, or most commonly referred to just as Afterglow. The city itself is on the far north east of the only inhabitable island on TRAPPIST-1f. Because of the planet’s dust storms, its citizens live in one of three giant domes. 

The first dome is regarded as the main city and a number one tourist destination for TRAPPIST-1 visitors: Dome 1. It has giant skyscrapers and a booming population. Dome 1 has everything you would expect in a giant city, high crime, expensive houses, meaningless landmarks. The second dome is the suburban section of Afterglow. It is home to those who can’t afford housing in Dome 1 but still have work and school there. While these two domes are well taken care of by the government the third dome is pretty much forgotten about. It is the smallest dome and the first created. Due to its out of date technology, the dome itself is susceptible to dust storms. It is famous for its overgrowth of alien plants because of a malfunction in the dome that causes exceeded humidity, moisture, and rain.

When the group and I arrive at Dome 3, we split up into groups. Me and the princess park at the South entrance of the dome.

“Lets go Princess,”

“I'm not going with you just to be-” I pull out my blaster.

“I literally have no time for this, let's go,” that shuts her up real quick. She keeps up herpissed off facade as she hops out of the ebike with her hands up.

“Keep moving inside the dome,” I say, tapping the mouth of the blaster against her head lightly. We enter with no guards disturbing us and eyes glued to us. As we walk through the streets of Dome 3, the residents stop mid step to stare at us, looking in horror and keeping their distance, trying not to end up like her.

We make it to the town square without any issues. The roof of the dome towers above us, long vines reaching down as if to grab onto us. I stand near a fountain, looking around for any sign of police or SipC representatives but nothing. Suddenly, a large hologram appears to my left. Bodyguards stand beside it, blasters in their hands. A giant man appears between them.

“Greetings to the members of Helios, I am the President of SipC, King Zephyr,” the hologram in the shape of the king’s states, a smug smile on its face. Everyone around us bows. I whisper to the princess to not move. “We are here today to discuss negotiations regarding the release of SipC’s princess from her captives. The board has talked on this topic and agreed on a hard but necessary decision,” I take a step back, feeling the guards closing in from a distance. I turn my head around rapidly to look around. Something is happening but I don’t know what…

“We have decided the best course of action is to save our ransom money for the stolen Crown Prince. Because of the riots in our newly colonized planets, we are unable to afford such unnecessary, pricey endeavors. In short, we don’t need her.”

Day 1 - Good Weather

Arrive at 7:00am Sunday 5th of May in London. Felt pretty good as well as I manage to adjust my sleep cycle pretty good (Thanks to some shift experience in the past) and was ready for the day. Out of the airport I was excited to be greeted by Thalia. We caught the train into Hammersmith. Then headed out with some of the housemates to walk into Battersea park. Went out for a roast lunch and had my first Yorkshire pudding (still think bread rolls loaded with butter is better). Also the old geezer next door has a pet tortoise which was cool to see. Seems like an ideal low maintenance pet. Apparently though if you want to breed them you have to make sure it's not on the female's territory or she'll just keep fighting the male haha.

So far other observations. Less busier than I thought and not as dirty as I thought as well. Very nice to see that. I thought the parks would be more amazing compared to ones in Australia. Just thought with a bit more time there might have been something else that made it more awe struck. Reminds me a bit of the outer northern suburbs of melbourne where it becomes brick replicated houses. I do prefer the variety but with the space and history they seem to be designed quite well. Also nice having them typically 3 stories or less and having good spacing between the rows. Hardy, simple, practical.

Day 2 - City Slicker

Went out for morning walk. New direction heading west up river. Bit colder today but the 11 degrees felt like a Tas 16 for some reason. Started raining so I hid in a cafe for a while eating pastries. Headed back home to wait out the weather a bit more before heading into the CBD for a look around. Heading toward the shopping district (Regent street). I enjoy people watching and seeing what goods and services are sold and what branding and styles are done so this was enjoyable. One of the malls you could go into hand designer clothes you could go touch that where $1000 plus which felt naughty. Some really shit looking designs mixed in with a handful of things that actually look amazing. Just interesting seeing better versions of Australian shops haha. The next stop was heading out East and head into the Color Factory for a Jam night. That area was a lot more stimulating art and culture. Good old poverty creating creativity. There was a lot more graffiti art and more music venues that were kind to another version of Hobart. The band was awesome and it was set as an open Jam. Great energy that reminded me of Jay's Jam nights back in the day.

Interestingly I thought it was one of the best places to see live music. For some reason I assume the venue would be slick and beefed up a bit. The interias is clean and fresh. But more so like HBC it just has a nice atmosphere and something about being in a warehouse makes it feel fun. Bit more unhinged and brought in a great community. That was really nice to see. Also 32000 steps haha. Looking at a desk job to have a day free to explore, the health benefits have been pretty good. Keen to see what the average will be.

Day 3 - Pro Tourist

I wanted to get a bike today while Thalia had to go into work. Was going to try to pick one up cheap and ride around but with limited tooling for quality I was looking at getting the Lime E Bike hire and brought a 200 min pass. Walked into work with Thalia, which was nice to do again. Before heading off on the Ebike journey. First stop was the British Museum. The history and content in this was pretty significant and there is a cool feeling of knowing that there is 1000s of years of materials that document the evolution of ideas and humans mastering the materials of the world. The building itself is pretty spectacular. Highlights would be the Egyptians and Greeks. Just good ascetics in their art and craft and the idea of gods and immortality themes playing out. Seemed to be the most popular with everyone. The fine China was actually really nice as well. Not the stereotypical white with blue art. These ones were really nice color sets from the Qin Dynasty that would look fresh. Something really satisfying about the colors and gradients used. The other notable interest is just the center courtyard of the museum and how intense it feels seeing it. Then the library and history of the people who collected the material in the museum over the 1000's of years. One other installation which is new was the documentation of every pill taken by a male and female throughout their lives. This was then captured by having an identical pill stitch into some transparent mesh so you could see the pills all laid out. The females were more interested due to birth control than hormonal therapy later in life and you can see the cyclic nature of the pills and also see how it changes over time and ramps up. Looks quite excessive at the end of life. There were 20000+ pills there.

Headed over toward Paul's cathedral to see that. Wow, that was an epic building. So great to have buildings like this around as there is something very satisfying about mega projects like this and the art and design that goes into it. Just looks bigger then it should and the size of the building and the time it was built. Makes it more incredible. Next stop was Tate Modern. I wasn't too keen on this one. One of the big exhibitions had just finished up. But as for most of the other stuff I didn't connect to it too much. I want art to make me think about concepts in a vulnerable or unique way. Or trick my mind in a way that I can't explain or take a while too. There were a couple of pieces that were visually nice to see but nothing amazing for me. After that it was off to Big Ben. After the tourist run I began the mission back home. New shop came up that I wanted to check out. Amazon Fresh. This was pretty exciting, the tech in it was so cool and the efficiency of shopping improved vastly again. Plus I've been watching Clarksons Farms and they supplied produce from the Diddly Squat Farm. But all you do is grab the items. Tap at the end then walk out. The shelves have scales then there are cameras tracking your hand movements so it maps everything you have taken. So no Scanning, just tap and walk out. Really satisfying. Went back to Thalia's work and had a beer in the sun while waiting for her to finish.

After all that and 42000 steps it was couch time.

i'm trying to show myself some grace after i got a new ebike in september that i'll be paying off until march, bc the previous one wasn't really meeting my needs for a few reasons, and i really thought i'd be able to continue biking for appointments and into the city with the trailer to pick up free groceries and other things. one time i biked everything with the trailer to table at a farmers market instead of having to ask for rides and help. at my budget i ended up having to choose between a step-through frame OR a stronger motor and battery, so i went with the motor and battery and figured i'd just deal. and then shortly after found out i need hip surgery, and finally applied for paratransit, and had to accept that i'm just not going to be doing those things. but i have this fuckn bike. i'm trying to sell it (not easy in november) to save the money for a step-through with a weaker motor once my hip has recovered. because i don't need it for that kind of distance, i just need it for my outdoors time, and i need one that i won't be hurting myself on to lift my leg over the frame.

i'm just annoyed with myself because i probably would have realized all of this if i'd just done paratransit earlier. it's just another instance of feeling like as soon as i've come to terms with one set of limitations, things with my body get worse and i have to start adjusting all over again. i really liked the independence of being able to just get on my bike and go and not worry about schedules and arrival windows or if someone's going to be late. i also just LOVE biking. when i was functionally able-bodied it was my main transportation. i live near the ocean now and i was so in love with biking over the bridges over the water it's so beautiful and the air and the speed felt so good. but my body can't handle biking to the ocean anymore no matter what ebike i'm on. i can handle going a mile or two to get to the woods. just sucks right now. grateful to have paratransit now but i really really really miss being able to just get on my bike and go

The hand is going to be cold for quite some time it's just a hand and it freezes everything around it eventually and there's a huge cloud and it becomes massive and people think the cloud is growing it's about 300 miles across the hand is about a hundred miles across and the cloud becomes so big that they send almost every scientist on Earth there and temperature changes occur off the coast of Africa it becomes cooler by about 10 degrees and inland about three and after time the cloud becomes around a thousand miles across and the temperature changes 20°. It's happening here a couple other places and it will cause a freeze out I have to eat Coast they do have another anomaly that's what they're calling them and they look like David's sons and people are saying this one is the same way and they don't see the hand yet but people see an outline of it it's going to be outrageously rude people going to come by and a lot of people will die here when that happens and it happens after Trump is shot any of those ballistic on everyone and he calls it that the people beat him to death constantly and he's evil right now these changes are beginning. And Dave Dan is still in office and he is not doing well and it's getting sick and sicker and is trying to avoid fights so his head doesn't come off and it's happened to him before it's not true he hasn't really lost his head yet in life but now it's a nightmare okay it may have been off a few times but it's not normal. We feel his father might pass tonight it will change things it will change up the schedule it will make everything different we do have other things going on if this is coming up too and I think they're making a great movie and stuff it is going to be a fight. Yeah he went quite a ways almost 30 miles some say we think it's around there and he went real fast today about 34.5 miles an hour and one throttle and we think it's great with new tires we think he might streetworthy tires you might get 40 miles an hour which really the thing can handle it rides like a scooter mostly bikes don't and they're they're scary to ride fast but this is not you should see it it really steers and handles like a motorcycle it's a side effects of the magnesium being cast and BG heard our son say it today I'm a bigger person usually on an e-bike that's solid even like the big white one or other evikes that are fairly solid the black one it feels like a bicycle and you're going too fast this one feels very nice so he's asking bigger people and they're saying it's a wonderful design you can't do without it it's very solid and they're recommending it to friends and it's going all over the world it's going to be a huge seller and PG sees that this is a great comment and of people commenting online I've never felt an evike that's so smooth in my life handling it is a dream and they're talking about how it goes faster when you pedal it doesn't look like it at all and it's it's getting to be a new thing this type of evike outrageous number of comments so that's good.

-other things going on our son went out to look for the trail to try his Suzuki DR 125. And vital and got his wife and Poseidon in God his wife for laughing the arm 125 that Steve had was like candy he couldn't believe how awesome it looked and how much fun it looked he was not on it ever but he knows what it's like a little bit he had an arm 100 RM 100 and he loved that 125 it's now like in a museum it's not true but it still works no and they almost threw it away and said you got to be kidding and I said what would we keep it for for you to use this is no it's going to be in a museum they were astonished and said you're right it said they know where it is and they know what to do now it's a wonderful motorcycle that thing is crazy and Steve used to do wheelies up and down the road the whole road the thing was awesome and Mark loves it that KDX too the 185 was a dream that thing was so much fun and our son loved that thing loved it and really liked it a lot he didn't love him but he wanted one like it and he never could get one he got the DR 125 and it was very happy with it it had the full floater suspension it's a single shock in the back that's what they call it he said this is pretty damn good and my legs are too short for those things and he loved it and while he liked it a lot and yeah it was his dream he had a lot of fun on it he couldn't get off that thing and the seat was a little better than that dirt bike seats it's Enduro but really we do have that idea on the books somewhere and there's a way to get it over there. Other things that are happening

-people are worried that they'll have to die for our son to get anything and yeah that's what's happening the word that it's wrong but it's going on and other people are doing it also a check is coming from FEMA it has been cut heard. And they talked about the moving expense and Tommy f is not director he said he was in the way the whole time it was and they're trying to get their people's stuff and that's how it works and we heard social security is doing it a little too and they are having problems with the director and he is not and it makes sense he was threatening to keep him there and threatening social security and it didn't make sense because he would still have to leave that place but there's ways to get it paid from the state and charities and things and he knew about it and he's the one who did it and is blaming Dave Dan and tried to knock him off a few times it's trying to knock off his father it is ridiculous everyone sees him and they checked and more people will check so we're going to print

Still not Actively Here, probably never will be again because fuck this site, but may as well post some sort of life update while we're here?

We're finally on HRT, been on it for about 8 months now. We're plural, turns out I share my head with a dragon. Still working at Kroger, inertia is a hell of a thing. We have an ebike now instead of just relying on Uber/Lyft for everything. We're the voice of Dave Strider in podfeels, an audio drama adaptation of Sarah Zedig's very good Homestuck Epilogues fic series godfeels, or: "i dreamed of feeling better". Uhh, what else? We're very gay for our partners.

Tangents

okay, so heres that tangent I warned about

so for the last like 10 years I have had this fantasy of winning the lottery and starting a business.....that first part is mostly the fantasy, because without that theres no way I could afford to do the latter

basically it comes down to new technology that allows automation for small guys like me, stuff like these

basically with 3D printing and affordable cnc and laser cutting machines, a guy like me could have the man power of like 10 people, and if I hired maybe 10 people total to assist, I could easily do something on par with much bigger companies.

my initial fantasy just involved making guitars, granted more advanced guitars then I think the market insists upon, because they are locked in the habit of what has proven sellable to MOST people. fender scale length, bolt on neck, 2 humbuckers, faux les paul look and feel. every company does it, no shame. just not my thing.

I've had this idea, which I've experimented with and talked about in the past, the guitar of the future. Ive done mockups etc like this

but as I've grown older, honestly what I think it should really be is a cheap reliable guitar with a few tricks up its sleeve. so I have reimagined it as basically this

telecasters are simple, and on a cnc machine if you made it as layers that were later glued together, you could make it very easily. the 4x2 headstock is better for straight string pull, and helps eliminate tuning instability. replacing the old school pickups with active style pickups like emg would make it more versatile, and then adding the b bender, along with string drops a g bender, and maybe even a strap actuated bender, the guitar could cover a lot more roles then a standard electric guitar. plus I honestly think benders are cool and more people need to play them, so making them as cheap and accessable as possible is a good idea

just a simple guitar, maybe of paulownia or plywood, cut as 2 or 3 sections and glued together, and then maybe even using a circuit board instead of wire to speed up production, its a great idea.

but I started looking into what else I could do with this hypothetical company that basically 3D prints things, and cncs plywood

I am a big fan of ebikes, mainly because I believe genuinely in the next 10 years they will begin to be a lot more common in most major cities, their prices will come down as there are more batteries in circulation for evs, and being able to make quick simple bikes like this to sell locally, it seems like a way to directy serve the market I want to live in.

I also looked into stereo equipment, as I am a big hifi guy, and I am a huge raspberry pi fan, so seeing stuff for hifi pi, again it would be a market i understand, and think shouldnt be so fuckin expensive

I also genuinely would love to make a cheap hammond organ clone

like sub $500, because when I was wanting to pickup the instrument it was very hard to get the $ together to do so, and I know if you could injection mold the keys, cnc the body print the circuit boards, and use an arduino or raspberry pi to run a soft synth hammond clone, you could easily hit that price point

more people need to play the organ

lastly is furniture

I love basic designs and furniture has always been something that I enjoy looking at, modern furniture designs, stuff from the last 50s early 60s, its so timeless and the open source furniture movement just scratches that itch. it's simple, but stylish, its utilitarian but it doesnt look bland

the idea of being able to make these things, locally, and just being able to put out into the world things I want and I know other people would too.....I think i'd like that

It's one of those things where I know my strong suit in endurance but not speed. I walk slow, it's comfortable, and I don't run. I could I suppose but I don't. So from a lot of societal standpoints I'm unhealthy and weak.

When I was going to rehab for my knee, there was a lot of equipment I ended up using kind of for fun and I realized by the end of it that I'm probably not physically capable of losing weight because I never did. I got stronger, my joints got more stable, my cardio got really good, but I didn't lose weight. And I was going 5 days a week 6 hours a day at a gym essentially.

It's just wild. Knowing for the rest of my life no matter how well my body is working, how strong my muscles or cardiovascular system, no matter how good my bloodwork is (its always been good), no matter how much physical activity I do, I will always be seen and assumed as fat, lazy, and out of shape.

I did the math a while ago and it turns out I ride approximately 10km to work on days I take my bike?
