Two Crowleys

A while ago, the wonderful mind of @noneorother posted this meta about the puppets in the magic shop.

The observation that there appear to be two Crowleys in the shot of the puppet arrangement had me absolutely scratching my head and thinking they must be mistaken somehow.

But then I got my hands on some of the Amazon X-ray extras, and discovered these little gems from the album covers in Maggie's record shop:

Now, going back to our color-coding for a moment, we may not know what all the colors in Good Omens mean, and we may not have all the colors down. But we do know a few, and we know that color-coding in Good Omens does exist, and that it matters.

Auburn and vavoom yellow are Crowley's colors. They are the colors of his hair and eyes. Black and scarlet red are the colors he wears. So those four colors are Crowley-coded colors. Okay.

Thus, these two record albums from Maggie's shop are Crowley-colored. Now, notice something important? Well, two things. The first -- Raga Koboj has TWO little sharp-clawed critters peering out at us from behind blinds. I daresay they are meant to be little cartoon demons, yes? And CT Bazz: Dank Balaclava features a face in a red ski mask. People usually wear ski masks if A. it's cold as tits outside, or B. if they're trying to hide their identity. So both albums feature Crowley colors AND images of hiding -- plus one features an image of twinsies.

The other important thing takes us back to color-coding. What other color do we see here besides our well-known Crowley colors? On Raga Koboj, the auburn and vavoom yellow blend into each other -- creating orange between them. And Dank Balaclava features a cigarette being lit -- with a little flair of orange fire.

(Edit to add: The name of that first album is Raga Koboj, which is a style of Indian music. A very famous tale in India is of the Warrior Goddess Kahli fighting demons who kept replicating themselves. Every time a drop of blood would hit the ground, a new demon would spring up. She went on a rampage trying to destroy them all, and her husband had to throw himself in her path to stop her. Hmm . . .)

This leads me to believe two things: Yes, TWO Crowleys. One Crowley in hiding, the other a twin. And that orange is Crowley's secret color.

Where else do we see orange?

Yep, the pillars in Aziraphale's shop. Which we also know is painted Crowley Auburn on the outside and Vavoom Yellow on the inside. With accents of this nice saffron orange on the pillars.

Want more proof? Okay.

Several people have noted that Aziraphale and Crowley keep to each other's right and left, respectively. Aziraphale on the right, Crowley on the left. In season 1, whenever they are on the opposite sides of each other, something's up. Not wrong, necessarily, but not in proper order. As in the image-swap/body-swap. Several people have also noted that Crowley is on Aziraphale's right far more frequently in season 2. And look here:

Aziraphale looks instinctively to his left when Crowley approaches -- only this Crowley, the twin, is not approaching on Aziraphale's left. This happens in more than one scene.

And when Aziraphale introduces Crowley to Nina in the coffee shop in episode one, he says, "This is, um, Crowley." As if he's quickly deciding how to name this individual who looks like his demon but approached on his right. Aziraphale "ums" and hesitates a lot this season, but he's also lying a lot. Hesitation and "um" is one of his tells.

I believe Aziraphale knows this isn't Crowley 1.0. But he acts and talks to this Crowley as if it's Crowley 1.0, so I don't think it's an imposter or someone pretending to be Crowley who isn't. I think Crowley's split himself in two. Am I sure about that? No. But it's where I'm leaning at this moment.

But Crowley 1.0 isn't missing entirely. Look here:

Aziraphale is looking over his left shoulder for his demon, and Crowley's right there, where he should be.

So yeah, TWO Crowleys.

Now where the heck is Crowley while his twin is out walking around on Aziraphale's right side? I really don't know what he might be up to, but I think he's in contact. Reachable, at least.

Let's look at this one again. Who's this?

No, not the guy in the foreground. The guy in the back. No, not the dude wearing tartan, the other guy. The guy in front of the ORANGE pillar, the guy on Crowley-twin's LEFT shoulder.

Is that Crowley 1.0? Or at least, a way for Crowley to be in touch while he's off doing whatever the heck he's doing? I think it is.

Would you like some more proof?

Okay. How about another record album from Maggie's shop?

Back to color-coding again. That baby-blue/red combo seems to indicate Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship together. The baby-blue is the color of Aziraphale's shirt, while the red is one that Crowley wears, mostly around his neck, although it also appears elsewhere in his costuming.

Au Revoir, Fingers! Crowley's just a head now. But a head has ears and eyes, so Aziraphale can communicate with it. As I suspect he tries to here, before Jim interrupts:

But wait. Back to Au Revoir Fingers for a moment. Red Eye Smile?

And red eyes? Fuck me.

A very few people have pointed out that there are lots of dual red taillights in multiple shots, frequently framed rather carefully. I had dismissed it, as I usually do when something turns out to be freaking important.

Someone's watching. I think it might be Crowley 1.0.

Then there's that bit where he's driving back to Whickber street, after coming back from Hell, and he first zooms around a bus with red taillights and says, "There's only room for one of us in this lane and it's not you," then he changes a pair of red stop lights to green and says "Don't you even think about it. There, that's better." Is he arguing with himself?? Telling the Other Crowley that it's his turn right now, not his? Of course I can't find a GIF or picture of that right now, but you know what I mean, right? Neil had to cut a bunch of material out of the finished show to fit Amazon's time limit requirements. That scene would seem to be an easy cut to make -- unless the scene matters to the overall plot too much to cut.

I also suspect that Crowley might be talking to himself in the book shop at the end of season 2. You know, when he turns Aziraphale's chair around to face the right way, but when Maggie and Nina come in it's facing the center of the room again? I suspect Crowley 1.0 and 2.0 had a chat. I do not know about what. Just sharing information?

I also wonder if Crowley 2.0 might have his own POV scenes -- thus confusing the already complicated POV situation even more. The white head statue sure gets several shots where it's in center frame, as if it is the POV character in that scene.

That's what I got, my fellow brain rotters. There's my evidence.

In conclusion: Two Crowleys. Yeah, I think so. Now, for the big question:

WHY???

What is Crowley doing that there needs to be two of him? And is it just twinsies, or is that someone else pretending to be Crowley and I'm wrong? Aziraphale definitely seems to know that's NOT his original Crowley, but tells the demon important information without hesitation, so I'm still suspecting Crowley twinned himself. But what if I'm wrong? Who is it then? And why are they pretending to be Crowley? And why does Aziraphale seem to know it's not Crowley, but still talk to him like it is?

I have no answers.

Red-blue reflections.

There are a lot of red and blue colors in the film. Often these two colors mark opposites and/or couples in one way or another. Crowley and Aziraphale, Sergeant Shadwell and Madame Tracy, Adam and Pepper, Maggie and Nina's shops, and so on. A cup of coffee and an apple of Eden. My interpretation of these colors. I assume that the color symbolism is taken from the Christian religion of the Renaissance.

In this case, the Red color means everything earthly, sensual, full of life, sexual, chaotic. Sometimes it's something aggressive (Anathema saw the red aura of an angry villager). But aggression can also be righteous bravery like Pepper, who stood up to the War. The color red does not appear symbolically in Hell and does not directly mean evil. The Blue color means everything unearthly, reasonable, calm. This is order, discipline, loyalty and stability. The blue color also does not symbolize Heaven and does not directly mean good.

I would add here the fact about two Christian saints - St. George and St. Andrew. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of the Scottish flag. The flag of Scotland has a white oblique cross on a blue background. And St. George the Victorious (the man who defeated the snake /dragon) patronizes the flag of England (this flag has a red cross on a white background. Saint George and Saint Andrew are also opposites of each other - one is a warrior (red), the other is a martyr (blue), respectively. I think it would be interesting to see these characters in the second coming?

One more color thought. Here is a screenshot. (S1E3 [54:24])

This is an image of a monitor in an office at a nuclear reactor. At the moment, there is no fuel in the nuclear reactor, there is a yellow candy that Adam placed there. The monitor shows that this yellow candy gives energy by splitting into blue and red colors. Yellow (gold) color in Christianity is a Divine color, the color of divine energy and grace. People who see it say "it's impossible". They witnessed a miracle. I associate this episode with another one.

(all subtitles are original) In this scene our angel and demon exchanged bodies and Death itself says that it is "ineffable". Death stated that it was a miracle.

I will also mention White color in my color reflections. He appears in the series four times (something I noticed.) White in this theory means purity, innocence and/or sacrifice.

1.The third baby in the S1E1. He was wrapped in a white blanket. He was a victim of circumstances. I haven't read the book, but fish were mentioned in the movie in the context of the baby. These few little facts lead me to think that this child may appear in the third season. And he will play a direct role in the second coming, as the new incarnate Christ (the fish is a symbol of Christ and also the white color his symbol too.)

2. In the theater with a red interior (1941), Aziraphale takes out a white handkerchief and theatrically waves it. I think it reflects the purity of his intentions to help his demon. And also the fact that he is the only one in this "vicious" place (where illegal alcohol is sold and people stare at half-naked girls) is a pure immaculate soul.

3. Gabriel wears a white fur coat when he goes out to the demons in the second season. He obviously intended to sacrifice himself for the sake of saving people.

4. Muriel - everything is obvious here. She's a blank slate. I really hope she doesn't fall victim to any dramatic circumstances in S3. I love Muriel).

There is also a Violet color. I have already talked about him a lot in my other posts, for example in the post about Gabriel's eyes or about the joint miracle of Azikro. I'll just mention a funny little fact here. When Aziraphale gets inside Madame Tracy, her sleeves turn violet (because she herself is marked in red, and the angel is blue, respectively.)

Violet color appears once more at the end of S2E6. When we see that Shax and Furfur are up to something together, they unite. And we see them disappearing into a violet haze. I think we need to find out exactly what this couple is up to in S3.

I assume that the violet color here means unification, union, expansion, reaching a new level.

The Pocket Chain Rainbow Connection Part 2

This part covers the second half of the first rainbow set, still going down from red to purple. At this point, the rainbow connection is on Yellow.

Theory. So much theory.

Triple Part 2, Part 1, Back View

Yellow.

Still on Yellow, possibly being used to flip the mirror of the Tied Hands back with a Rainbow Connection Reflection. There is a pocket user between cars, the incoming Pocket Frame. Their reflection can be found in one of the cars, along with small yellow lights. The car window with those reflections is open.

Green is ready. The red alert can be found to the left of Crowley's neck. The Green is right next to the Yellow over on Crowley's right.

Triple Part 2, Part 2, Front View

Green. The Green is the plants in the car. The nearby human making a self-pocket with his legs is going to help stall Blue from being ready.

I suspect Crowley and this human are trapping the Green to be used later in The Door Trick. The lighting helps set Crowley's clothing to Black. The human aligned near him has a mostly White shirt. I am left with the impression Black and White can trap a color if that's a desired result. More info can be found in the later part of Part 4 on this trap idea.

Still on Green. This part is the Pocket Frame touch point. It also has an over-the-rainbow touch at Crowley's right shoulder, allowing for a Rainbow Connection Reflection to flip the mirror of the Tied Hands.

Blue is ready in one of the two frames after. The nearby human to the car helped stall the switch to blue through visibly being behind the green, then having his own neck pocketed between the red alert lights until the time was right. Based on the slightly more red shown in those two frames, the switch is probably the last video frame of the cut.

Double

Blue.

The blue is the blue pants on the human behind Crowley and Aziraphale.

Crowley needs to take care of some things before using two pockets, so purple is stalled for the moment.

The human with the blue pants is also wearing white and orange. They are visually touching the red alert. I think her white, and maybe even her combination of opposite colors, helps put in a hold for the switch. Aziraphale temporarily blocks the red alert lights. That human is soon visually pocketed between Aziraphale and Crowley. While she eventually passes by behind Crowley, the red alert lights are fully blocked by Crowley himself by the end of the cut. Hence, the switch has been effectively stalled until Crowley can attend to a number of things for this touch in the following cut.

The following cut I refer to includes an Overhead Light and a second hinge touch, for example.

My latest best guess for when the Rainbow Connection switches from Blue to Purple is when Aziraphale opens the door. Before he opened the door, there was some red or orange light reflected onto the window pane. This reflected light changed position when the camera changed and then shifted with Aziraphale's movement.

As Aziraphale enters, his pocket watch receives a reflected light during one particular frame. At this frame, Crowley's right leg is visually pocketed between Aziraphale's legs. Aziraphale's right shoe is partly visible. This frame where this switch happens would then have a purple understood to be on screen somewhere in the blurred rainbow colors Mr. Arnold is wearing.

Then, Purple is ready.

Purple. There is the purple. It's over to the camera's right and Mr. Arnold's left. This scene has two findable rainbows...and these other two rainbows on connectors as a clue to find the purple for the Rainbow Connection. I believe that was the intent anyway. I laughed at the realization since I had such a hard time finding the purple. The music shop is generally dark and filled with not-purple or not-quite-purple colors, especially near Crowley. The purple is blocked out for a good chunk of the scene by Aziraphale. An audience player has to find it early.

This touch either has a switch from Purple #1 to Purple #2, then a switch from Purple #2 to Blue or it has a two-part switch from Purple to Blue. Since the Single has a potential double Red later but seems to get only one switch, I am hoping that means this touch has a two-part switch. The touch is for two pockets after all.

Purple is the end of the first rainbow. It is time start going up from purple to red.

With two pockets in use and no cars nearby, this switch happens much differently. It happens through humans passing by outside the windows and the way Aziraphale times his own head-turning with each pass between when he does the necessary actions to set up the pocket frame for Crowley.

With each head turn, the blue nearest Aziraphale shows more blue. So, by the time the head-turning and human-passing are done for each pass, a blurry Blue is ready.

If there are Rainbow Connection Reflections, they happen with the human reflections found in the drum cymbal behind Aziraphale.

Aziraphale tells us in Before the Beginning that Earth will be a blue-green planet. Great, there's one more color just given to us in the dialogue. A freebie, if you will.

Blue-green like Nina's Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death? Blue-green like Ennon's robes?

Why do those two things correlate with Earth? And why do they correlate with each other?
