on goo kim - official analysis!
this is going to take forever but here we go~ im here to talk abt goo's backstory. im not putting panels so ur just gonna have to trust me :D. im not sure why more people don't talk abt goo's lore in manager kim but i will include it. this is in no particular order. this is the definitive goo analysis backstory theory for this blog. grab a snack and a drink and let's go.
evidence 1 - "There are monsters above champions, and madmen above monsters." (Chapter 98 MK)
"One of the three madmen Master Cho recognized is currently in South Korea." <- he's very clearly referring to Goo.
evidence 2 - "Uhh, he's not on the list." (Chapter 98 MK)
Goo seems to pull up a website/document on his phone called...The World??? Like he has a database for bounties. In chapter 99, the website is referred to as the black market and is used by plenty of other bounty hunters. It's heavily implied that Goo is acting as some sort of bounty hunter, but he doesn't make it clear.
evidence 3 - "He is the fervent devotee of edges." (Chapter 98 MK)
Goo is apparently internationally recognized for his prowess (and craziness) and is well known to be a genius of weapons (wink wink). In this chapter, Goo was fighting with just a watch and also avoided a gunshot point blank!
evidence 4 - "I would hate being a soldier." (Chapter 99 MK)
Jincheol really wanted to recruit Goo as a mercenary, and Goo vehemently denied saying he would hate it, not caring if mercenaries were paid properly or not. He also did not want to partake in Jincheol's "mid-life crisis" and got pissed off the more he thought about being a soldier. He also freaking tackled and threw him out a window??
evidence 5 - "Should I ask for his signature?" (Chapter 101 MK)
Hyoseung Kim was standing behind Goo and just fucking fawning lmao. He was excited to see him in person.
evidence 6 - "Are you here for a bounty too?" (Chapter 101 MK)
Again Goo is implied to be a bounty hunter like the rest of them.
evidence 7 - "Countless hired killers across the world." (Chapter 93 MK)
Bounty hunters are being recruited and Goo quickly recieves a message from an unknown person where he finds out about the bounty.
evidence 8 - "From South Korea to Japan, Russia, The United States, China, Thailand, and Indonesia...We have recruited the most expert assassins." (Chapter 96 MK)
A lot to unpack here, Goo is internationally recognized (by the black market) as an expert assassin. He's also regarded as the most likely to win because it's his country and he knows the terrain/structure. Do with this information what you will bc idk what to do.
evidence 9 - Cousin Cicada (Chapter 55 Lookism)
I always wondered why his cousin had money and he didn't. Perhaps he is estranged from his family for his violence. Or after his juvie sentence? Maybe his line has the swordsmen and his cousin's doesn't? Maybe the entire family is prominent somehow? Did Goo used to have money and misses it after being estranged? Was he simply treated differently than the rest of his family? Abused? This obviously implies he has a family, knows his relatives, and was still in contact with his cousin somehow. This was so long ago. What was the intention behind making him Goo's cousin? Does his cousin know about his prowess because they have a family of swordsmen/assassins?? Or is that separate from his family?
evidence 10 - "There's a knife and a victim." (Chapter 55 Lookism)
Goo appears to be manipulative to some degree when he acknowledges that fact that he can "do whatever he wants" as soon as he sees a victim. This is likely the reason he primarily beat up bullies since he doesn't actually want to go back to juvie. I think he has a little compassion for the victims, but that's not why he does it. He ends up "exchanging" the fee for the opportunity for violence, prioritizing violence above even money. Also, Cicada seems to knows that Goo is a "crazy-ass" and and "evil guy". Wonder why.
evidence 11 - "There was a kid from my area who tried to cut me and I broke all his fingers." (Chapter 56 Lookism)
As much as Goo's story is all over the place, I really appreciate PTJ's consistency with Goo's personality. He seems to be truly passionate about swords (and any kind of edge) to the point where he gets offended by even rudimentary attempts.
evidence 12 - "Just like you did to them, I'm doing to you. I am also beating you for no reason." (Chapter 56 Lookism)
This is line is interesting to me because it shows that even though Goo acknowledges that he is the avenger in this situation, he really only cares about his personal interest in committing violence.
evidence 13 - Vasco's aichmophobia
Aichmophobia is defined by Cleveland Clinic as an intense fear of sharp objects and experiencing "intense fear and anxiety when around sharp objects like scissors, knives, needles and pencils". I think it's extremely poetic that the person who developed aichmophobia was saved by the person who is the master of wielding edges. Vasco's bullies were stopped specifically by the person who was superior at doing what they were attempting to do.
evidence 14 - "I ended up repeating what that old man said! I shouldn't have been playing around in a place like that in the first place!" (Chapter 473 Lookism)
This chapter has a lot about Goo so I'll cover it all here. There is a flashback to him when he was training. He's using a wooden stick/sword that broke and he seems to be maybe 12, 13, maybe 14? I gather from this that Goo did not begin his swordfighting training at a young age. This is supported by the quote, implying he found the studio and his master later on in life and was not trained by him from childhood. My guess is that he was a violent and problematic child to a degree, maybe even using weapons at a young age, and simply got curious about swordfighting. He also explained the importance of intelligence in a fight, which is pretty straightforward. That is also supported by quotes from Jincheol in MK where he acknowledges Goo's ability to constantly adjust his fighting style to what is necessary. Very impressive Goo!
evidence 15 - "I'll help you as long as you pay me." (Chapter 421 Lookism)
Even before Goo met Gun, Eugene, or Charles, he was behaving like a mercenary, offering do whatever for money. This is a two for one, Goo gets as much money as possible while also getting to fight, succeeding each time with little effort. He seems to have had the mindset of a mercenary or bounty hunter for a long time. He went out of his way to travel across the city doing these odd jobs.
evidence 16 - "I heard of a genius on the run after stabbing his master." (Chapter 527 Lookism)
My hunch seems to be correct in that Goo is not in school, not staying with family, and...homeless..? I guess?? I don't know where he's staying, maybe a hotel. But it seems that he just lost it. It being his temper. And stabbed that old man and ran away. I have a million theories as to what the master could have possibly done to piss him off, it's not worth discussing too much. Also the fact that he tries to be mature and not get angry as much as possible (and he succeeded for the last several years!) signals to me that he doesn't actually enjoy it. I think he enjoys fighting for real but regrets losing his temper as it is a sign of immaturity and neediness.
evidence 17 - "You're getting excited while fighting? Oi, you're a pervert, aren't you?" (Chapter 528 Lookism)
Goo recognizes Gun's behavior from somewhere else. Such an odd and specific thing to say.
evidence 18 - Goo's three rules (Chapter 528 Lookism)
Goo wanted the contract money, to not be treated like a subordinate, and to have equal shares as Gun. Seeing as he got mistreated anyways, it makes sense he betrayed Charles. Goo seems to know about contracting and finance. Makes me think someone's gonna mention the Hwarang sword soon...
evidence 19 - "Too vicious, eh?" (Chapter 297 Lookism)
Gun doesn't think Samuel will beat Daniel, but Samuel's crazy is exactly why Goo had faith in him. Also he throws a freaking bowling ball just to hit Gun's lol.
Okay there are other obvious quotes that allude to Goo's personality but I will stop here because those are pretty well known by now.
the backstory
Being bullied in school is kind of a cop out so here:
Goo was abused/mistreated by someone in his life. He was somehow "betrayed" by his master. He learned swordfighting later in life. Something probably happened to make him wholly dedicated to weapons, specifically anything with an edge. At an unknown age, killed someone, maybe multiple people (likely in a crime of passion) and became well known for his madness (specifically Master Cho). At an unknown age, became obsessed with money and thus pursued bounty hunting but equates being a mercenary with being a "soldier". At an unknown time, was most likely estranged from his family for an unknown reason. Likely to do with his violence and/or his juvie sentence.
things we don't know
Primary concern is that fact that we don't know Goo's timeline. When he went to juvie, when he left home, if/when he murdered somebody, when he started seeking money, etc. It's hard to tell whether he became crazy when he started training or later on or if he was always like that. Or when he became a bounty hunter/assassin and became famous. We don't know why he stabbed the master, why he hates Tom Lee, and why he sided with Workers for so long.
notes
1. Because of all the...bizarre references to people around Goo being..perverted, I always had the theory that maybe Goo was assaulted by somebody. I don't know who. But something kinda tells me it could have been his master. That would explain why Goo doesn't like it when people start freaking off (excuse my language) and why he stabbed him. However, the fact that he stills heeds his words as an adult makes me think it's not true. I still think he was assaulted/harassed by somebody tho because he is the only character that gets that kind of treatment/dialogue. Most obviously, it could have been Tom Lee bc he hates him too, but we will see. 2. Regarding Goo's tendency to let himself get hit: Goo is clearly known as a killer. He has the strength and intelligence to do whatever he wants. I think the reason he lets himself get hit and play around is 1) to avoid losing his temper or gaining a suspiciously large advantage, 2) to avoid showing his full power and 3) because he simply does not want to kill the person, so full power is unnecessary. I think he treats fighting like a game (he does like video games) as a person who was taught to be serious. He is more powerful than he actually needs to be so he uses limited power to support his daily life. 3. Goo's collection of fellow crazy people is fascinating because they all have similar personalities and became a little more mature. Goo did say he wanted his own crew and he got it I guess. Got a bunch of freakazoids and made himself the king. I still wonder what he's doing with them. Crazies taking over the world.
mini-theories
1. I have a sneaking suspicion that maybe the reason PTJ chose Goo to save Vasco is not just because he's the weapons genius. Maybe the reason he gets offended when other people use weapons on him is because he also had aichmophobia and overcame it by taking the power of weapons back. This would also explain why he dislikes scars on his body. It would be the complete opposite of Vasco. On that note, Vasco also smokes, which Goo also hates. 2. Goo, like Eugene, seems to be great at taking hits. I have a theory that he is used to pain from being cut and hit so many times in the past. Which would also explain his quickness to stab himself. For whatever reason, he just didn't scar or they faded. (Feel free to tell me all about dull and sharp blades!). 3. On the other hand, I have a theory that, like Gun, Goo has some kind of genetic mutation/superpower that allows him to heal faster or maybe feel less pain? That would explain why he goes to the hospital every other day and doesn't care. He lets himself get hit and doesn't mind. I feel like superior healing would suit him.

some lookism childhood headcanons
i imagine hyungseok as one of those really cute kids that resemble marshmallows. he's just so soft and round and giggles when you pick him up and spin him around!!! his mom would take him to work with her and her coworkers would give him all sorts of snacks and pocket money. he's like a bouncing ball of pure sunshine.
johan as a kid would be extremely intrigued with religious imagery. he would often try to memorise the architecture of the church his mother takes him to, and then try to draw them when he's bored.
i also imagine that johan's an amazing artist, and the god dog logo is his own design. when he was small, johan would always want to participate in art competitions, but art supplies are a luxury so he gives up on that desire pretty fast. he conveys the same to his mom, who praises him for being a sensible child as johan sniffles on her shoulder against a tattered cardigan that smells like home.
samuel was always too little for his age, and never managed to eat until he was full. either his mom would scream at him for being within her sight for too long, or he would lose his appetite seeing her face.
he watches his mom's TV soaps from a corner and sees everyone being nice to the handsome and capable male lead, and starts believing that people only care for what they cannot have. so, he too, will become someone unattainable by everyone.
samuel is too angry for someone that scrawny, so the seniors always beat him to pulp. but, he never cries. instead, if the other boys would listen closely, they would hear him mutter under his breath, "i am gapryong kim…" (yes this is about kdj telling himself that he's yjh from orv)
jake as a kid is very easy to please. he's like a porcelain doll that you have to poke in order to get a reaction, but once he knows you, he clings and never lets go.
teen jake is almost a carbon copy of young gapryong, but when he smiles, he looks exactly like his mom. but, years of living with his dad make his smiles dim in frequency, so the resemblance goes unnoticed.
growing up, jake would probably hate mirrors as he is reminded of how much his appearance starts resembling his dad's, when he looks into one. his relationship with his mom grows strained because he doesn't want her to be in pain when she is inevitably reminded of gapryong when she looks at him, so he always tries to disappear from her sight, and eventually runs away from home, not knowing his future in a gang where, in order to be with those his loves, he must become inseparable from his dad's violence.
zack is a typical rich kid who always gets what he wants. he is very into superhero movies and comics, and is an idealist who takes inspiration from his favourite characters. he too wishes to save his friends and protect his love just like the figures wearing flowing capes on the screen, drawn on the pages of his books.
vasco is also into action-comics and superheroes, but he is the one who wants to be “saved.” like he looks at his mom struggle financially and emotionally as a single-parent and wonders what a saviour would look like, when they would arrive. (i think one of the many reasons he becomes breakdak's student is because he feels he is accompanying an invincible force that can guide him in his path to save others, and thus, save himself.)
vasco’s morality also stems from the absolute goodness of heroes, where he is a stickler for reform within the boundaries of pre-established rules and codes of moral conduct.
jace as a kid is a nightmare. u know they say that kids are blunt but jace takes it to a whole another level. you CANNOT lie to him, in front of him, about him because he WILL expose your lies. his analysis goes crazy and adults are a bit scared of him. santa? “i know it’s you, dad.” “H-HOW???” “i just know. also you left the house at 8 in the evening and returned with exactly 5000 won missing from your wallet. The price of chocolate-” “OKAY. OKAY. STOP. JESUS”
goo’s weird and off-putting vibes have accompanied him from the womb. he mutilated insects by plucking out their wings and trapping them under glasses before torturing them in “the fly : short story by katherine mansfield” style. there isn’t much to say except he probably committed arson before reaching the age of twelve.
gun is the gojo satoru of lookism like the balance in the yakuza was shifted after his birth. yes the power he inherits is a burden to him but he loves having the burden and being the sole one to possess it.
he feels no genuine emotions or connections to anyone at all, as if he and the world around him are separated by an impenetrable wall, the strong existing on the pinnacle of a lonely mountain towering over the weak.
the only emotion that gets to him is the sense of pure ecstasy he feels during fights, the thrill of fighting just for the sake of it, the enjoyment of enacting violence unto his enemies bcz he knows he is at the top (on heaven and earth, i alone am the honoured one)
that’s it for now!!! hope that clears my brainrot amen.

'My Liberation Journal' is more important than ratings
Recently, the personality type test, the so-called MBTI test, has become popular among the younger generation. Personalities, which were previously classified by blood type and constellation, were further subdivided, and extroverts were usually classified as ‘Insa’ and introverts as ‘Asa’. The situation that Mi-jeong Yeom goes through in the play is similar. Her extroverted colleagues enjoy the company's clubs, but Mi-jeong Yeom doesn't belong anywhere. Although it is not her fault, she is called to the in-house welfare team to be pointed out for her lack of social skills.
In the end, Mijeong Yeom started her internal club called the 'Liberation Club' and entered her company culture as a part of her company, but difficulties in her relationships exist everywhere. Her employees greatly sympathized with her feelings that belonging to society entails a lot of fatigue. "I don't know where or how things went wrong, but I'm just tired. All relationships are labor. All the time I open my eyes is labor," Yum Mi-jung's low narration left a great comfort and lingering impression on the viewers.
Other characters have their own meanings. Ji-hyeon-ah (Jeon Hye-jin), who appears as a neighborhood friend of her three siblings, seems like a free spirit in her love affairs and daily life, but she is lonely and lonely. Someone can deeply understand her enmity in this character, who expresses her loneliness in the crowd with her whole body.
Mijeong Yeom tells Goo, “I adore me,” but this story is not a story of salvation. Viewers all know that her outsider Mr. Goo (Son Seok-gu) cannot save Mi-jeong Yeom and Mi-jeong Yeom cannot save her Mr. Goo. However, the pathetic gestures of her struggles make them cheer for them. 'Some' or dating, which are now too common words, do not suit the two of them.
Although it is a word that is not commonly seen, the depth of meaning of 'chuang' is a vocabulary that suits the two people who are drowning in the mud of life. The sincerity of Mi-Jung Yeom and Ms. Goo, who wants the other person to fill in the blanks and become a whole me, was conveyed to the small screen. The emptiness of wanting someone to become the reason for my life touched the hearts of many and even attracted topicality.
According to Good Data Corporation, a recent TV topic analysis company, 'My Liberation Journal' has been ranked second in the drama TV topic category for 3 weeks in a row. In particular, Son Seok-gu and Kim Ji-won are enjoying the effect of word of mouth as they ranked first and second place side by side in the topic category for drama performers in the 4th week of April (from April 25 to May 1). Proven workmanship fascinates viewers even without a masterpiece or spectacular directing. It would be nice for many viewers to see it, but what if it doesn't? For some, it clearly reminded me of the meaning of life and was comforting. This is why 'My Liberation Journal' is a special work.

Kim So-jin's first appearance in 'The Heart of Evil'
Kim So-jin confronted Kim Nam-gil and Jin Seon-gyu in 'Those who read the minds of evil'.
In the 3rd episode of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Those who read the minds of evil', which was broadcast on the 21st, the figure of Yoon Tae-gu (Kim So-jin), the team leader of the 1st and 2nd team of the Mobile Investigation Team, was drawn.
In the previous episode, police officer Song Ha-young (Kim Nam-gil), who tries to understand people's minds, and Kook Young-soo (Jin Seon-gyu), who realized the necessity of analyzing criminal behavior more than anyone else, and recognized Song Ha-young's potential as a profiler, started the arrest of the real criminal in a serial murder case. Created a criminal behavior analysis team. However, they did not know the criminal behavior analysis team itself, or even if they did, the perception was not very good.
And on the same day, a five-year-old girl was murdered in pieces. Song Ha-young and Kook Young-soo tried to help in this case, but the mobile investigation team did not even share the progress of the case. Song Ha-young and Kook Young-soo met with Yoon Tae-goo, the team leader of the 1st Division 2nd Team of the Mobile Investigation Unit.
Song Ha-young told Yoon Tae-goo, "I do a job called criminal psychology research. I interview prisoners and create data," and Yoon Tae-goo said, "What do we do when we meet? Do you do a psychological test? It's a joke, I'm sorry if I offended you." made cheap And Yoon Tae-goo was consistently sharp towards Song Ha-young and Kook Young-soo from start to finish, nailing him as unable to share the progress of the case and leaving.

Gaming for good!
Well we’ve heard enough about how videos games are turning teenage brains into goo and causing violence and mass shootings. Let’s have a look at the potential for positive benefits from social games.
As many as 86% of students in Korea use the internet to play games, and 60% said that fun and entertainment is the main activity that brings them to the internet (Lee in Baek, Ko & Marsh 2014, p. 130). As such, online gaming is thought to be one of the most significant gateways to children developing computer literacy.
Online social games like Farmville, have been found to have educational benefits to children, as they promote cooperation and collaboration as well as resource and time management (Lee in Baek, Ko & Marsh 2014, pp.131-132).
Minecraft has become a remarkable phenomenon within schools with endless applications for education. The social aspect of the game is central to its value and benefit to children. Blyberg (2015) outlines how the game has helped formed important physical social participation sites for young people in schools and libraries (p.28). Wily librarians are using these gatherings as an opportunity to issue library cards and get them back into reading (ibid).
MMORPGs, while perhaps aimed at a slightly more ‘serious’ gaming audience, also have educational benefits. They promote social interaction, formation of new relationships as well as the enhancement of existing offline relationships (Kim, Yoo & Kauffman 2013, p.11). These particular social interactions are closely connected to the overall enjoyment and pleasure associated with the game, meaning that not only are MMORPGs more attractive to a lot of gamers but also, those gamers will benefit more from these types of social games. (ibid. pp.12-13).
Kim, Yoo & Kauffman liken the gaming experience to appreciation of music (2013, pp.13). I’d propose taking that comparison even further and placing social gaming alongside any other example of ‘healthy’ social interaction: like sporting clubs or attending social events. Why not?
Gaming addiction and violence remain important issues, but I feel there are enough benefits to outweigh the negatives and I think caution should be taken before extreme actions are made. For example, what if schools or parents took a conservative approach and completely banned games like Minecraft for children? Think of all the fantastic educational benefits and social skills students would miss out on.

Goo's dedication to his job really deserves more attention. Even before he became this supposed responsible adult, he was always, and i means, ALWAYS dedicated to his job once he agreed to it. Even at 16 years old, he negotiated with Charles to make sure he got what he wanted and proceeded to do his job perfectly.
This man was working three jobs as a teenager. Debt collecting around the entire city every month (which he had to do all on his own), bodyguarding Charles Choi (bc he was the real bodyguard, not Gun), and eventually becoming HNH chief of security, (lord knows what that entails). Not to mention the couple of times he showed up ON BEHALF OF GUN when managing the crews was Gun's job. He was truly working overtime and I completely understand why he's upset about being used by Charles Choi. Goo was always willing to do the work, but Charles got greedy and used him. But nobody understands this. Even Gun says this:
And Charles says this earlier in the series:
His frustration is totally warranted, even if he was not personally betrayed.
It really shows how even though he was high up in the HNH group, in the end, he got the same treatment as the Four Crews, just with a little more respect.
He even got put in the fucking hospital by his partner and was expected to just be okay and keep doing his job. And when he does go to the hospital later, he doesn't even mind, all he wants is for his hospital fees to be paid. He's not even picky.
Goo was always holding up his end of the bargain. He understood showing mutual respect while having individual interests. Y'all need to show some respect bc he did what half the characters literally cannot do.
Dude was working 2-3 jobs at a time, and still managed to get his driver's license, scout out secret friends, keep tabs on the gangsters of Seoul, and spend time with Gun. Not to mention personal upkeep like dying his hair, going shopping/getting fitted, working out regularly, and taking care of himself. Talk about multitasking.

. appearance- kinda imagine her looking very much like kim hieora...sharp facial features, bloodless skin, dark undereye circles, pin straight hair, tall and lean... like ethereal, but in a truly unsettling way. something inhumane and cruel and alien but she's so gorgeous that you cannot comprehend properly the intensity of her being all of those things!!!

. i think she would still be the kind of general moral vagabond as in canon. blood and blood and replay. she's very insatiable and intense at all times. she loves chaos, horror, and being the cause of that turbulent terror. gloats over it. is nourished by it.
. she has NO instinct for nurture whatsoever. her moral compass is a roulette wheel. she doesn't have exaggerated, hypocritical ideals like Gun does. she just needs something to kill, endless, itchy waiting for her prey to deliver itself to her open mouth and bared teeth. SHE doesn't enjoy hunting. Gun does. She likes her prey willing, because that is how and when they taste the sweetest...
. as a teenager she's terrifyingly self-possessed and intense. is it a facade for her weakness? can weapon ever be weak? should the one who wields the weapon deserve to kill if they're weak? the sword is the vessel for her brutality as well as her defence against annihilation...
. another aspect to be pondered over is the role her assigned sex at birth or gender identity and expression would play in her portrayal as a character. Goo is someone who has, always, loved and lusted over money and power. both her and Gun are children weaned on poison who take comfort and pleasure in extreme violence and sadism. BUT. BUT. But it's not the same, never the same.
. what happens when your best friend betrays you long before YOU betray him, simply by being a man, just because he has, inherently, without even trying, by birthright, everything YOU wished to be? what do you do when he is the one with the natural, omnipotent power that you so ardently hunger for, and you are nothing but a weapon, a toy, a wild animal to poke and prod? familiarity breeds contempt.
. Goo is someone that hates being underestimated and undervalued. AND THIS is where i think her irreconcilable fragmentation from Gun and Charles and Tom begins.
. She surrounds herself with incredibly strong and equally morally corrupt men (secret friends) to vicariously live through them her own fantasies of enacting unbridled slaughter just for the sake of her own pleasure, her desires that would otherwise be looked upon with unforgivable contempt by a society diseased with patriarchy...
. i would love to go into her experiencing disillusionment under Charles... stowing her beliefs in a fallible God, worshipping said God with blood and until he ends up demanding her own... would a believer betray the deity? if she loses her identity, what is the basis of her existence, then?
. some style analysis- I feel like she would EAT in these vintage corporate high fashion pieces from jacques fath/ralph lauren/christian dior

. lmao I feel like I rambled without making much sense but I would love to explore fem goo more and thanks to you anon!!! HAVE AN INCREDIBLE DAY ILY
edit. THIS IS MORE THAN THREE BUT I YAP TOO MUCH AND CANNOT COUNT SO FORGIVE ME!!!

The Power of Potions pt2
Sorry, I forgot to upload this!(It’s been on AO3 for a few days)
Chapter 1
Looking at the sleeping faces of Fíli and Kíli, you wondered how the small terrors could look like such angels when they were unconscious. Sighing, you closed the door on the small bedroom Professor Durin had been surprised to find had sprouted in his chambers.
“They’re asleep, Professor,” you muttered tiredly. It had taken two goodnight stories – luckily, the Library had contained an ancient copy of Beedle’s, you thought – and four lullabies. You hadn’t known any of the lullabies the boys apparently remembered, but they’d been fascinated by the Danish ones you remembered your own mother singing before her premature death, and even a weird Gaelic one you’d learned from your grandfather.
“My thanks, Miss Grey,” Professor Durin replied stiffly, staring out of the window. “You should go get some rest yourself. I’ll see you in the Great Hall at 7:30 for breakfast tomorrow? If I remember right, the boys usually woke up before seven at that age.”
With an inward groan, you accepted, feeling worn out by simply one afternoon in your new role as caretaker.
Making your way down through the castle, you stopped at Professor Snape’s office door, knocking lightly. You hadn’t been summoned – though you would have received a scroll on your bed, you knew, before bedtime – but it was often better to show up of your own volition the Slytherins had learned, showing initiative instead of cowering from your punishments.
“Enter,” Snape called, the door opening slightly on silent hinges.
“Good evening, Professor,” you murmured, recognizing the pewter cauldron Professor Snape was peering into as your own.
“Miss Grey,” he greeted, looking up and nodding once. “You may leave your notes on my desk when you’re done. If possible, bottle the memory of the day’s lesson too.”
“Yes, sir,” you said quietly, taking a seat at the smaller desk as the Professor scribbled notes on a long scroll of parchment. A large tome lay before him, though Snape hadn’t begun using magic to unravel whatever you had created; the stasis spell was still holding, surrounding your cauldron with an iridescent shimmer preventing anything getting into - or out of - the potion.
- Followed instructions for ‘Kalhoun’s Fibrous Cardiac Healer’ (found in “Medical Potions for the Prepared” by Master R. Brown, pp. 273) until step 12; add four gentian flowers. Added five. Potion began sizzling and turned crimson instead of coral.
- Performed Bacchus’ Test spell to confirm suspicion of excessive acidity.
- Added two #3 measuring spoons levelled of powdered moonstone; this should make the potion neutral. Potion flashed orange for a moment before returning to previous crimson, large bubbles forming on the surface. Potion gave off excessive heat as expected.
- Added four hairs of thestral to lower temperature. Standard procedure for controlling thermally unstable compounds. Potion remained crimson; appeared slightly darker in hue. Bubbles remained, now shimmering lightly; like frost blossoms forming and melting.
- Added one diced mint leaf to stabilize the hair/yarrow interaction. Potion began to turn gelatinous.
- Added two hairs of thestral; felt the heat dissipate. Bubbles continued to roil, however, enlarging and splashing against the lip of the cauldron.
- Attempted to add another two hairs, but potion reached critical stage.
- Called for those around me to duck and attempted to shield myself and cauldron. The shield spell on the opposite side of the cauldron either failed or did not manifest properly. Used Barnaby Haldor’s variation of the Brewer’s Shield, non-verbal, mastered in fifth year Potions Club.
- Potion was evanescoed off the two victims, Mr & Mr Durin, who verbally claimed to be unharmed, by Professor S. Snape.
- Arriving in the Infirmary 16 minutes and 4 seconds after initial eruption. Confirmed by Haldor’s shield variation with wrist-timer.
- Heard a scream from the bathroom 19 minutes and 37 seconds after explosion.
- Discovered Mr & Mr Durin in bathroom, naked, apparently reverted to their own four-year-old selves. This observation was made by Professor T. Durin, who arrived promptly at noon – time substantiated by the meal bell ringing which can be heard from the Infirmary.
- Mr K. Durin seems emotionally attached to myself, possessive, even, though both Mr F. Durin & Mr K. Durin seem to have no problem remembering my name, which is peculiar as I have known them for only two months. This suggests partial memory of older self was retained.
- Boys asked about their mother – to my knowledge Mrs D. Durin passed away when the two were around age 12, which substantiates the theory of partial recollections.
- According to Professor T. Durin, both children are acting much as they did when they were four, suggestive of maturity regression, though further observations are needed to verify either of these theories.
- Both boys remembered childhood stories and favourite lullabies.
“Is the timer still counting, Miss Grey?” Professor Snape asked. You showed him your right forearm, the magical ink that Haldor’s variant spelled onto the caster’s wrist still counting. Professor Snape nodded, and you knew he was pleased you hadn’t been so daft as to dispel the timer. Turning to your cauldron, he indicated the stasis spell with a wave of his stained fingers. Waving your wand, you spoke the partial finite; keeping your timer was essential, but the stasis part dissipated with a slight shimmer of magic. Using a pair of tongs to hold a small vial, Professor Snape collected a sample of your goo. You recast the stasis spell on the cauldron. “Continue to take notes, Miss Grey, and observe anything out of the ordinary in regards to Mr & Mr Durin,” Professor Snape said quietly. “Goodnight.”
“Sir?” you asked, confused. It was barely gone nine, you had assumed he would keep you for some hours either lecturing or working on your potion.
“This analysis is Master level, Miss Grey, you have years of study before you will be able to do it yourself,” he explained quietly. You nodded, but your curiosity made you bold.
“I’d still like to watch, Professor,” you mumbled, staring in fascination as he pulled out an array of glass instruments – the most magically inert tools for any potioneer – pouring a blob of your goo onto a small slide and looking at it through a microscope.
“Very well, Miss Grey. You may ask questions when I am finished. Take notes throughout.” Professor Snape commanded crisply, but you didn’t think he was displeased. He rarely was when students – especially his own house, of course, as you were more likely to dare brave his temper – actually wanted to learn the art of Potions.
Trudging back to your bed hours later, you yawned widely.
“So?” Kimberly-Anne asked, pulling her curtains aside when you entered your small room. Slytherin had rooms – two students per room – rather than dorms, and you’d been roommates with Kim since first year.
“They turned into toddlers!” you moaned, falling back on your bed. Kim burst into laughter, uncowed by your glare. You reluctantly gave into your own chuckles. ¨
“Seriously, how adorable are they?” she asked, reaching out to poke your foot teasingly.
“When they are asleep? Very.” You admitted with a laugh as you pulled off your robes, throwing them into your hamper. “When they’re awake… they’re mostly hyper and want to explore everything.” You groaned lightly, rolling your shoulders as you found your night gown. “Kíli thinks I’m his pet or something; he keeps calling me ‘My Gwen’ and glaring at anyone talking to me.” Walking into your small bathroom, you washed quickly, brushing your teeth and returning to bed with a yawn.
“Was Snape very angry?” Kim asked, well aware of the anger of your Head of House. You shook your head, feeling puzzled by the fact.
“Master Snape was hardly angry at all – though he took the opportunity to needle the DADA-Professor as expected,” you both chuckled. It was no secret that Snape had yet to meet a DADA Professor he could do more than tolerate. “He spent hours using very advanced magic to analyse my potion,” you admitted, still awed. “I think he likes the puzzle,” you finally admitted with a yawn, staring at your clock. “Merlin’s beard,” you groaned, dismayed, “I promised Professor Durin I’d meet them for breakfast in six hours.”
The soft laugh of your best friend followed you into sleep.

The JTBC new gilt drama ‘Regal High’ (play by Park Sung-jin, directing Kim Jung-hyun, produced by GNG Productions) is a 100% odd-numbered 100% monster lawyer. The other two lawyers act briskly and comically funny. The reading took place last month with the full cast: Jin Goo, Seo Eun Soo, Yoon Park, Chae Jung Ahn, Jung Sang Hoon, Lee Soon Jae, Kim Byung Ok, Kim Ho Jung, Jang Yoo Sang, and more.
On that day, director Kim Jung-hyun prepared a surprise event to convey the bouquet of flowers every time one of the actors introduces himself, meaning “thank you for coming together”. The actors who received flowers informed the audience with a bright smile, a pleasant start. As director Kim Jung-hyun pointed out, “Actually, I will release you as much as you can, let me play as much as I can.” Actors continued their pleasant performances in a free atmosphere despite their first script.
Jingu, who predicted the transformation of the previous comic drama, expressed his geeky metamorphosis and Taerim character perfectly with only a few words of ambassador. Especially, the transformation of Jingu, which challenged comic acting through this work, has raised expectations. Seo Eun Soo, a lawyer at a lawyer, a lawyer with a sense of justice, opened her acting with a soul reminiscent of a filming scene, and made her expectation and determination in her drama. The filmmaker who watched it said, “We are expecting the story of two people with conflicting characters, Jingu and Eun Seo.”
Yong Bak, Chung Jang, and Silla Hoon, who have joined together as a lawyer corps of a B & G law firm, In the first place, Yoon – suk provoked curiosity about Ace Lawyer Kang Ki – seok of B & G law firm to deal with Koh Tae – rim with calm, soft but hard charisma, and Chan – jean showed the actor who can not conceal democratic lawyer with unimaginable reverse. After that, he steadily expressed his passionate lawyer Yoon Sang-koo with his own colors, adding more joy.
Lee Sun-jae, who was divided into the undisputed secretary’s office of the Go-Tam-ri law office, gave a sense of stability to the pole with skillful acting, and boasted the unusual comic chemistry with Jingu. Kim Byoung-ok of B & G law firm’s representative vice president, Kim Ho-jung of guardian Song Jae-soo of Seo Jae-in, and Jang Yoo-suk of Kim Il-soo, an information source of the Taehrim Law Office, added character presence by digging character with extraordinary performance and thorough script analysis. The crew said, “The actors seemed to be immersed in the drama by taking advantage of the characteristics of their characters, and the characters seemed to be alive.” “I will show a funny drama by law, and I would like to have a lot of expectation and support from the first broadcast.”

South Korean Authorities: DPRK Hacked Defense Ministry, Stole War Plans

South Korean Authorities: DPRK Hacked Defense Ministry, Stole War Plans
Rhee Cheol-hee, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea — the ruling party of South Korean President Moon Jae-in — and a member of the National Assembly who sits on the Defense Committee, broke the story. He said the 235 gigabytes of information was stolen in September 2016, and the government has yet to identify 80 percent of what's actually been compromised.
In total, 3,200 computers were hacked. Seven hundred of them were within the South Korean military intranet, not connected to other computers. One computer affected was used by then-Defense Minister Han Min-goo. The hack came from an IP address in Shenyang, a city in northeastern China about 150 miles from the North Korean border, that is often accused of acting as an operating ground for North Korean hackers.

South Korea's ambitions to take out Kim are no secret. In September, South Korean Defense Minister Song Young Moo publicly confirmed the existence of a special forces brigade, dubbed "Spartan 3000," with the sole objective of "decapitating" Pyongyang with a surgical strike against Kim and his top deputies.
Also stolen was a wartime emergency plan for South Korea prepared by Seoul with assistance from Washington. It included analysis of the readiness of institutions like South Korean special forces, the national energy grid and military bases for full-blown war on the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea denied the allegation when South Korean legislators first asserted that a massive hack had taken place back in May 2017. The South Korean Defense Ministry has yet to comment on Rhee's report. It isn't clear how much damage the hack did to South Korea's military strength or combat readiness.

Though cyber-warfare isn't new in the never-ending tensions on the Korean Peninsula, in recent years the conflict has increasingly taken to cyberspace. For example, in 2010, the United States broke into the computer systems of North Korea's foreign intelligence agency, the Reconnaissance General Bureau.
South Korean intelligence estimates that 1,700 state-sponsored hackers work for Pyongyang. Most hack attacks traced back to this group are financial in nature and not directed at stealing state secrets. In July 2017, South Korea's Financial Security Institute (FSI) issued a report claiming that North Korea is the backer of the hacking group Lazarus, which has been connected by numerous cybersecurity firms as well as the US government to high-profile hack attacks.
These include the $81 million cyber heist from Bangladesh's central bank in 2016 as well as the cyberattack against Sony Pictures in 2014 in retaliation for the studio's distribution of "The Interview," a comedy about an assassination attempt against Kim.
