A Growing Menace

A Red-tailed Racer hiding in a dark corner of its cage as it approaches another round of sloughing. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.

This non-venomous racer is only a threat to rats, mice, birds, bats and lizards, not to us. With the dark surroundings, it was much easier to isolate the snake. I had only to dial in 1-2/3 stops of negative compensation to expose for the racer.

I forgot to post these coz I was little but a while ago I had a small evening with my partner. I had fallen over and was very upset I basically turned up at her house after work and was instantly 4.

We painted snakes together.

My partner made a rainbow snake and I made a gonyosoma oxycephalum, that's a red tailed racer.

Little me is just as obsessed with snakes as big me and I had lots of fun mixing the colours to get it just right. I also made the tongue blue because they have blue tongues.

Harmony III: Gonyosoma oxycephalum

Considering how stereotypical and almost cartoonish the idea of a snake being green often is, the real ones can be some of the most stunningly beautiful of all. 

The red-tailed green rat snake is native to Southeast Asia and may reach up to almost 8 ft (2.4m). These little living emeralds flatten their neck out to intimidate predators, much like a cobra - but sideways!⁠ ⁠ Finally past the halfway point on this series! Two gonyos at the show today.

Cleaned Chime’s box today. She calmed down pretty quick in my hands which was cool.

Her box is set up differently than others. She’s still on paper towel so I can monitor her droppings for a while (new addition and all) but I have 2 perches in a sort of V shape I have going through the box. I used bamboo skewers for those, LOL, cheap and easy solution! I also stuck some fake plants (yknow the suction cup type) for greenery and to give her hiding space. She doesn’t spend a terrible amount of time on the floor, but I have most of it on top of a UTH, and her water bowl’s placed on top of that part too. Helps control the temp and humidity a bit better than standard since she’s usually making use of the perches or sitting in the leafy bits.

So far so good! I’m determined to get her decently handleable after her 90 Days In Jail is done.

What breed/species of snakes do you think is most likely to be secretely a dragon?

Oh my gosh do you know how hard this is for me to pick? I think part of the reason I like snakes so much because I love dragons and they remind me of dragons.
