fem!, modern moshang!!! sqh writes scum gong cheap shou novels in this au and constantly has to self-censor before the chinese government does <3 when she transmigrates into one of her novels she tries to seduce beibei because everyone knows there are only three types of female characters in BL: bitch, fujoshi, lesbian, and she'd probably get murdered by sj or lbg if she wrote rpf of them. now, you'd think that their relationship explicitly being NON-platonic would make them communicate but they're still moshang so...
oh and in this universe i think shen yuan's meimei should be the one who transmigrates bc i have this vague memory of her canonically reading hardcore bondage danmei (maybe it was a headcanon?) but i feel like she'd still have discerning taste...yk maybe she hooks up with minglingning
#mtxt#moshang#shang qinghua#mobei jun#genderswap#modern au#svsss art#svsss#ig technically shen jiu isn't really a cheap shou#so it's more like a scum shou cheap gong type deal with bingjiu#it's about the vibes yk#specifically with white lotus bingge pre-blackening#it's alright you just need to pull through and wait until sj starts his regret arc bingbing!!!!#more sv fics should feature sy's meimei im pretty sure she doesn't have a canon personality but she's probably a queen#scum villain's self saving system

Latest on Anle:
1. By now I dislike every character in this mess. LMX is a manipulative user. Han Ye is a gratuitous masochist. Anle is morose and dreary enough I am confused as to how either man is obsessed with her unless it’s purely for looks (there is a way to make a dark and revenge driven and damaged woman who puts her goals ahead of love and ain’t got time for fluff interesting - see Dowager in Bloody Heart or Shu Qi’s FL in Red Dust or Ha Ji Won’s FL in Empress Ki) but Anle ain’t it.
2. I confess I laughed when Han Ye volunteered to do public penance barefoot. Surely you forgot your flagellation tools, young man?
3. It’s pretty clear that LMX and Anle are drinking as much of HY’s blood as they can because they can’t go after the real guilty party, the emperor, and are just projecting on a target that is not only available but is literally hanging a “kick me” sign on himself. That makes me think less of all three of them.
4. It’s a tough competition but Anning wins Idiot of the Drama award. That actress has no aura of the general, not even a cosplay one, but the atrocious script is doing her no favors by saddling her with the brain power of a toddler.
5. Why Han Ye hasn’t yet informed Anle WS is her brother is beyond me. “Because drama!!!” Is not a good answer.
6. I keep fantasizing about importing Sima Yi from The Advisors Alliance or Cao Cao from Three Kingdoms 2010 or hell, even Li Chu from Glory of Tang Dynasty or (to use a current drama), Cousin Cang Xuan from LYF into this world and having them take over this kingdom of morons in two days.
6a. Han Ye is a sweet person but in any real world situation that dynasty is doomed when someone like him comes to the throne unless his advisors are somehow an improbable combination of madly loyal and utter sharks. I wouldn’t trust that man to run a trading caravan ruthlessly, smartly and efficiently enough.
7. On plus side, all three mains are very pretty and the acting is fine in light of what they’ve been given. Still, if you want to watch Dilraba do a lady with agenda role, you are best off watching The King’s Woman or even The Long Ballad (and god and my mutuals know I am no fan of the latter.) If you want to watch Gong Jun be brilliant in a period setting, Word of Honor is that way. And if you want to watch Liu Yuning as an ambitious tragic schemer, go check out Heroes (go check out Heroes anyway, actually!)
To conclude: if color beige was given a drama form, it would be this drama.

The Old King is Dead, Long Live the King
We're finishing up what has turned into a Wen Kexing week with bang. A bit of a gore warning on this post, both for fig blood and movie-scene blood. There's also some disturbing subtext here, depending on how you read this scene.
The scene that inspired this fig is from Episode 21, when some of the 10 Devils are recounting how Lunatic Wen deposed the previous Ghost Valley Master to become the new Ghost Valley master. And by "deposed", they mean, "skinned the old Ghost Valley Master alive". We're treated to a short flashback of this event through Changing Ghost's eyes:
The director's approach to this scene is pretty intense. This is no kingmaker power scene - from this perspective, it's not even a scene of revenge. Instead of some overpowered, unstoppably triumphant, bloody conqueror, we see a young, dirty, barely dressed man, covered in patches of blood, with the glassy, thousand-yard stare of someone living through their own personal nightmare.
Below are some photos of some of the scene that was cut from the final version. I'm assuming the bloody corpse of the old Ghost Valley Master was too gory for TV.
He looks traumatized and exhausted. He's got like one and a half layers on. His belt is just a strip of fabric and knotted in a tie so plain and utilitarian it's like I tied it. Hobo-Xu wore more clothes than this. The only thing that's in any way actually publically presentable is his hair, which you can see was originally neatly arranged (there's actually a braid in the front) and adorned with his hairpin. This is about as stark and non-glamorous as a scene as I could possibly imagine for someone taking both revenge and a throne. Full kudos to the directors and Gong Jun.
Our young Wen Kexing arrived safely in his protective box. Which is good, since for sure this poor guy doesn't need any more damage.
The fig arrived with the heads of his enemies, but not in his hands.
At his feet, where they belong. We have our choice here of two corpses.
Canonically, I had to have him hold the old Ghost Valley Master, of course. I'll leave the other corpse at this fig's feet on my display shelf.
The hair knot of the old Ghost Valley Master looks like it should fit tightly in Wen Kexing's hand, but it does not. It fits well, shape wise, but it's so loose it doesn't hold at all. I tried using some museum putty, but the putty isn't sticky enough and the cream/white of it shows through. I was going to glue it, but then decided there was enough room to try a sliver of a fig sticker instead, so that's what you see here. This seemed to work perfectly - the fig sticker filled in the loose gap.
The fig maker sure captured that thousand-yard stare. This fig looks as traumatized as Wen Kexing looked in the show.
No printed box for this one, but we do have a box card:
I like the blood red background of Ghost Valley the fig maker has here.
Speaking of the Ghost Valley, the background to my header picture actually is Ghost Valley. It's from the official art book / photo book from the show. I wanted to take a pic against the burning tree, but the photo in the book was too small.
We'll have a happier fig post tomorrow, I promise!
Material: Resin and the bodies and blood of his enemies
Fig Count: 392
Scene Count: 27
Rating: Sometimes karma comes in the form of Wen Kexing

Taylor's coming to China next week!!!!
He's going to Shanghai (my cousin lives there), and then there are some talks about him going to Zhejiang (one of the neighbouring provinces, geopolitics is weird here) for a GQ event on the 7th
The rest of this post is me, as a Hong Konger with a Chinese family (yes there is a distinction, again geopolitics is weird) rambling
This is nowhere near me (a 2.5-hour flight) and I have exams but this is the closest distance-wise I will ever be to him
I'm excited and worried in equal measures and I'm really worried: Chinese celebrity culture is something completely different, meet and greets where fans can actually talk to the celebrity. especially on the street or out in the wild casually rarely if ever happens. I don't know how this is gonna go I just really hope there won't be any trouble and fans will respect his boundaries.
But I do genuinely hope he has a good time
The funny thing about the GQ event is the confirmed guest list isn't out yet. It allegedly comes out on the third but there's this weird activity in which by drawing online lots, people can quote-unquote win quotes related to the guests and Taylor's one is the 'I fell in love with a person' quote from Alex's speech, but they copied it weirdly and cut it down to 'I fall in love with a person and that man happens to be a prince of England'. Cutting down and grammar mistakes aside, the part of the original quote 'That person happens to be a man' which is the part that normalized their gay relationship is cut out. And I know for a fact this is a deliberate move.
I'm honestly surprised that they supposedly invited Taylor. This isn't me in any way undermining Taylor, I'm only too happy for him to be in more events, let alone in my country, but he's known for RWRB here, and China's censorship on anything remotely gay has been getting worse these few years. Dangai is banned and pride organizations were shut down with no explanation. People wearing anything remotely resembling a rainbow were banned from a concert in Beijing. Vast majority of Chinese fans watched RWRB illegally because they can't access Prime in Mainland China. That's why I'm surprised.
But something I'm pretty excited about is supposedly Gong Jun (Wen Kexing from Word of Honour (that happens to be gay), the last show that had a prominent impact on my life before RWRB) who I'm still casually following is gonna be there. I can't guarantee that their paths will cross but I do find parallels between Gong Jun and Taylor's career trajectory and that fascinates me. In fact, I also find parallels between Zhang Zhehan (Gong Jun's scene partner from Word of Honour) and Nick's trajectory as well.
God I just hope he has a good time and everything goes smoothly for him.

━◈ WANTED CONNECTIONS ... three new ones have been added to the page!
there are tales of how li haoyu is searching for their two younger siblings, which is familial in nature. the records show that they are about 22-28 years old and their photographs look like dylan wang, lu yuxiao, zhao lusi, ju jingyi, fan chengcheng, yan an, song yuqi, xiao dejun, wang ziyi, sun yihan, bi wenjun, shen yue, wang yijin, chen zhuoxuan, wang zhuocheng, chen zheyuan, wu lei, lin yanjun, liu lingzi, any chinese fc in the appropriate age range. help us find them, but make sure that you speak to karin at @kencanas on tumblr beforehand. this is their story so far: a lot of haoyu’s siblings’ personalities are utp and we can discuss the details! but their shared backstory is that the li family is local to cynefin and are very rooted to the land. they’re literally just a normal family working normal jobs, with haoyu for example being a blacksmith. they do okay, but i definitely don’t imagine them to be Rich & the eldest two siblings at least probably did not get tertiary education. affinity for khemia across their bloodline is also very poor, but i’m down to discuss one of the siblings potentially being khemia-touched for the #drama because haoyu is very bitter they aren’t. tldr; details utp!
there are tales of how li haoyu is searching for their employer, which is platonic/professional in nature. the records show that they are about 40+ years old and their photographs look like omar sy, qin lan, michael greyeyes, zahn mcclarnon, aishwarya rai, gabrielle union, lukman sardi, jericho rosales, lucy liu, simone kessell, vera farmiga, alexander skarsgard, sandra oh, maggie q, gong yoo, lupita nyong’o, tessa thompson, alex meraz, pedro pascal, ke huy quan, fan bingbing, joe taslim, fc ultimately utp. help us find them, but make sure that you speak to karin at @kencanas on tumblr beforehand. this is their story so far: haoyu apprenticed at the local blacksmith’s forged upon graduating secondary school and has remained working there ever since. haoyu has (or at least had) a pretty good relationship with them, especially since he’s quite disciplined and passionate about his work. i imagine that because haoyu doesn’t have an affinity for khemia, however, it’s hard for him to progress in his career. would love if this muse is trained in transmutation & that is causing a bit of a rift between the two of them—because without khemia, haoyu can’t get to their level. this muse’s personality & how they ended up becoming a blacksmith really are all utp, and i’m more than happy to brainstorm further details.
there are tales of how li haoyu is searching for their narrative foil/rival, which is antagonistic in nature. the records show that they are about 27-33 years old and their photographs look like go younjung, do kyungsoo, pat chayanit, woo dohwan, melisa asli pamuk, apo nattawin, taz skylar, avan jogia, fady elsayed, sakaguchi kentaro, medalion rahimi, daniel ezra, alisha boe, damson idris, jackson wang, tiana okoye, ryan destiny, kylie verzosa, dilraba dilmurat, clark backo, gong jun, kang haneul, adonis bosso, pinar deniz, ashika pratt, bie thassapak hsu, fc ultimately utp. help us find them, but make sure that you speak to karin at @kencanas on tumblr beforehand. this is their story so far: the main thing i’m looking for with this muse is that they have a strong affinity for khemia, particularly in transmutation, which would be something haoyu both hates and envies. i imagine their narratives would parallel and foil each other’s at the same time, but how that is exactly is up for discussion. all i ask is that at present, their relationship is largely antagonistic and Not Great. whether they have history or not can also be discussed! some ideas include but are not limited to an ex student of verum who was an outsider, haoyu’s work rival, a young business owner who takes advantage of their transmutation magic, someone who supplies weapons to the warfront, and many more. basically this dynamic is toxic, biting, and crazy.

NAME: Chu Wanning | 楚晚宁
MEANING: 楚 chǔ – clear; neat; pain; suffering. 晚 wǎn – evening; night. 宁 níng – peace; tranquility.
TITLES / NICKNAMES: Beidou Immortal ( 北斗仙尊), Yuheng of the Night Sky ( 晚夜玉衡 ) / Yuheng Elder ( 玉衡长老 ); Chu-fēi (妃 for consort/concubine, by Taxian-jun), bǎobèi (by Mo Ran), Immortal-gege (by one really drunk Xue Meng).
BIRTHDATE: 09/08
SPECIES: it's really complicated but he's human for all intents and purposes
NATIONALITY: chinese
GENDER: male
PRONOUNS: he/him
ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: demi-romantic
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: homosexual
FAMILY: Huaizui of Wubei temple (former master / creator), Xue Meng, Shi Mei & Mo Ran (disciples count as family)
PARENTS / SIBLINGS / CHILDREN: —
SIGNIFICANT OTHERS: Mo Ran/Mo Weiyu (for every verse)
EYE COLOR(S) : dark amber / phoenix eyes (shape)
HAIR COLOR(S): black
HEIGHT: 178-180 cm
BODY BUILD: slender but strong, with a notably slim waist and defined muscles
FACE CLAIM: Luo Yunxi
POTENTIAL FATAL FLAW: rage, rage, rage; often letting his heart rule his mind, especially as a response to injustice
THREE HEADCANONS:
• he tends to become an absolute miserable wreck, cranky and childish, whenever he gets sick (which happens a lot), but as there's usually no one to take care of him, he's pretty used to biting it down and still forcing himself to function. same goes for injury — no matter how grave it is, he'd much rather struggle on his own than ask for help. it's so engrained in him that sometimes it takes him quite a while to realize that asking a medic for help is an option.
• despite following the path of abstinence and not giving much thought to passions and desires, he's been aware of his attraction to men since his teenage years. but it never bothered him, partly due to growing up on the mountain away from the world where such matters were never discussed at all — the very concept of homophobia was unknown to him for a long time.
• depending on the amount of memories he retains in different verses, he never plays guqin in public/in the presence of others, and only ever uses it as a weapon when needs be. the incident ruined the tranquility of music for him.
three things your muse likes doing in their free time ⎯⎯
• inventing / building mechanical devices, particularly those that can be used by common people to defend themselves from ghosts and demons;
• reading whatever he can get his hands on, writing to kill the time (letters that won't be sent, as Chu-fēi);
• embroidery (on rare occasions).
a phobia your muse has ⎯⎯
heights. he never uses his sword for flying unless it's really unavoidable and he's supported by Mo Ran. losing his husband, as he's lived through it before.
one thing your muse regrets ⎯⎯
not being able to see and prevent the rise of Taxian-jun in time, not being able to defeat or restrain him later on even after exhausting all his power. there are too many things that he blames himself for, that are not his responsibility nor his fault, but going into deep meditation that one time and not being able to stop Mo Ran from trying to protect him at the cost of his sanity is definitely top of the list.
people your character likes / loves ⎯⎯
his disciples (albeit not in the same way + softly removing Shi Mei from the list), Xue Zhengyong and Madam Wang, Liu-gong (as the only person who always stayed kind and respectful towards him as Chu-fēi), Nangong Si, Ye Wangxi.

Gong Jun is beautiful, and has a pretty distinctive face, but for some reason I almost never recognize him in pictures. It's like the oddly specific face-blindness that only applies to one person.

My #1 post of 2022
I have spent my day very productively making - at latest count (and I am NOT done yet!) - 102 gifs from Her Royal Highness. I am mildly (i.e. very) obsessed with this show.
It’s a Chinese period web drama and the episodes are only 2 minutes long so you can watch the whole thing in under an hour. And it’s just. so. good.
Because the episodes are short, the plot moves along nicely (and is actually pretty interesting and has a few surprises in store) without too much filler and really the plot is just an excuse for the dynamic between the two leads. And is is a *heck* of a dynamic!
It turns the usual tropes on their head in the best way. The female lead has the power and authority (being an imperial princess and all) and is not afraid to use it. And the male lead is.. literally subservient to her. But in the *best* way.
He is literally her servant, in the context that she is an imperial princess and he pretty much has to do what she says, but also he is very much subservient to her... in an adoring service sub way (never has the period Chinese phrasing of referring to yourself in the third person as “this servant/your servant” been more appropriately utilised 🥰)
He’s just... he is literally the doe-eyed ingenue in this story and she the knowing seducer. And he’s *into* it. He literally tells her “You can do anything to me” and means it. He spends a disproportionate amount of time on his knees, or lying down, or otherwise in a position where she is literally above him and he is looking up at her through his lashes. 😁

GJ and ZZH Updates — March 19-25
<<< previous week || all posts || following week >>>
This is part of a weekly series collecting updates from and relating to Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan.
This post is not wholly comprehensive and is intended as an overview, links provided lead to further details. Dates are in accordance with China Standard Time, the organization is chronological. My own biases on some things are reflected here. Anything I include that is not concretely known is indicated as such, and you’re welcome to do your own research and draw your own conclusions as you see fit. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or additions. :)
[Glossary of names and terms] [Masterlist of my posts about the situation with Zhang Zhehan]
03-19 → BEAST posted a second teaser video for their ad campaign featuring Gong Jun that would release a few days later. (1129 kadian)
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of behind the scenes footage from his recent photoshoots for L’Oreal. Caption: “Come follow the footsteps of boss @ Gong Jun Simon and enter the midsummer early🌴~” BGM is I Just Need Fun by Marlboro and Funk It Up by BCD Studio.
→ Gong Jun posted in his supertopic, “Thank you everyone, stay safe!” then edited the second clause to “go back and pay attention to safety!” Context is that a large number of fans had been waiting for him outside Shenzhen airport, so he used a different exit to leave presumably to avoid an incident.
→ BEAST posted a third teaser video. (23:29, 1129 kadian)
03-20 → BEAST posted a fourth teaser video (1129 kadian) shortly followed by two photo ads [here] and [here].
→ The Weibo Night account posted a promotional video for the event spoken by Gong Jun. This was reposted by Gong Jun’s studio.
→ Gong Jun attended an event for Haixi, the company that manages him. Fans noted that neither of the posts Haixi made of the event that day included him ([here] and [here], he did appear in a pre-recorded video of all Haixi’s artists). Gong Jun’s studio account did not post anything about the event. Fan Observations: Haixi has been... less that stellar with their management for him, especially recently, and fan frustrations over this have been increasing. There are rumors / speculations that Gong Jun is planning to leave their company soon; it’s unfortunately pretty common practice in c-ent for a company to negatively target an artist that has left them due to the threat of competition, so fans are quite worried over this possibility.
03-21 → Gong Jun posted the full commercial for BEAST to his personal Weibo. Caption: “Today is the spring equinox, the day to fly a kite. Let's chase the spring breeze together and find balance together.” This was reposted by BEAST with the added caption: “A new rain breaks in the empty mountain, and the days after that are like the spring breeze.”
→ Gong Jun posted two photo ads for BEAST to his Instagram. Caption: “Smell the fragrance of spring and fly the kite!”
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted one of the same photo ads.
→ Fresh posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.
→ BEAST posted another short commercial featuring Gong Jun. (23:29, 1129 kadian)
03-22 → BEAST posted a last short commercial for the ad campaign. (1129 kadian)
→ Haixi posted another video of their event from two days earlier. This one included a few seconds of footage of Gong Jun and a song with vocals done by him.
03-23 → The Golden Shield Cloud Insitute Weibo account run by Peng Lihu, where he has been claiming to have connections to Li Xuezheng (see [1] [2]), made a post saying that they were reporting a government official, Liu Hanjun, for abuse of power, with the post signed by “Li. Xue. Zheng”. The same was also posted twenty minutes later to an associated website, which had an IP address in Hong Kong hosted by a Tencent subsidiary in Singapore. Li Xuezheng’s Baidu page was deleted within half an hour after this; it is believed he had it taken down himself to avoid it being edited to include false information.
→ Shanghai City Living posted three additional clips [1] [2] [3] of the interview with Gong Jun they had released the previous week. Subbed videos: [2] [3]
→ The Chinese Wikipedia page for Liu Hanjun was edited to include the above information as a “controversy” by a user who had never made an edit before, with this then edited to include further details by a volunteer editor. The latter editor also then added the edits to Li Xuezheng’s Wikipedia page. At the time of this post, these additions have not been removed.
Around the same time, an audio recording allegedly of Li Xuezheng was circulated by whalers, in which he said he has “no regrets”.
03-24 → Golden Shield Publisher (legitimate) put out a statement that Golden Shield has been dissolved and no one can make statements on its behalf, following which the aforementioned Weibo account was muted for violaton of laws and regulations, and the aforementioned associated website was taken down. Both the Cloud Insitute and “official” Golden Shield Weibo accounts changed their display names to include “Qingdao”, the branch that Peng Lihu is associated with, and removed the pfps which contained trademarks registered to the real Golden Shield.
An article by the Epoch Times (see also 08-20) was published talking about this whole incident, accrediting it to Li Xuezheng. Other articles by Taiwanese news media companies later followed.
(summary adapted from Flora’s [here] which has more detailed info)
→ Several big whalers on Weibo wiped their accounts. One of these included an account that had been made two weeks prior to 813, who then made a post that the account was for sale; another whaler bought it to “stop it from falling into unknown hands.”
→ Gong Jun posted a commercial for L’Oreal.
→ A large number of toxic Weibo accounts, including Master Wu (Gong Jun anti) and HBW (participated in 813), were muted for violation of laws and regulations. The two aforementioned people moved onto side accounts.
→ Shanghai City Living posted their full interview with Gong Jun. [text translation] Caption: “No matter how the environment changes, Gong Jun still maintains the same forward posture as before: he has hope in his heart and stays grounded.”
→ Gong Jun’s studio reposted a post from the Weibo Night account listing rules regarding fan behaviour for the event (ie. don’t crowd in public areas, don’t chase cars, etc.) Added caption: “The event is coming soon, please be civilized and rational, abide order, and at all times, pay attention to protecting the safety of people and property. Let's meet the boss @ Gong Jun Simon at #Weibo Night#.”
→ Madame Tussauds posted a photo of Gong Jun from 03-04. Partial caption: “Weibo Night is about to start, what kind of look will Gong Jun use to make his debut?”
→ Gong Jun appeared in a livestream for L’Oreal. [full recording] During it, he admitted that he keeps a digital calendar for remembering birthdays and anniversaries (as fans have long suspected lmao.) Fan Observation: After the Madame Tussauds unveiling, some solo fans complained under his studio’s posts that he’s been wearing too much white recently. He wore an all white suit again for this. (They also complained about him wearing matching clothing. Matching with whom, hmmm?)
03-25 → Fans of various artists gathered outside the Weibo Night venue in such levels that some joked it looked like the Olympics. Gong Jun reportedly bought drinks for some of his fans that he had delivered to them. [video of CPFs singing Tian Ya Ke]
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted: “In order to ensure the order of the scene, please evacuate in an orderly manner as soon as possible outside the venue, and do not stay. Be sure to protect your personal and property safety, thank you everyone for your cooperation ❤️”
→ Gong Jun posted four photos of his red carpet outfit for Weibo Night. Caption: “Flashing” These were also posted to his Xiao Hong Shu with the same caption, and to his Instagram with the caption: “Be the brightest boy!” @ing the designer Elie Saab.
→ Gong Jun attended the Weibo Night awards, during which he performed the song Neon Sweetheart Honey Darling alongside Liu Yuning and was among four to recieve the award for Artist with the Most Attention. [full program] [subbed red carpet interview part 1 | part 2] [subbed performance] [award acceptance]
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of his red carpet outfit. Caption: “Waiting for the night to fade away, the curtain opened, and boss @ Gong Jun Simon stepped into the bustle.“ BGM was Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.21, Elvira Madigan.
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted fifteen photos of his red carpet outfit. Caption: “In a retro secret place, watching the bright lights. Boss @ Gong Jun Simon walks in the fragrance, enjoying the golden years together.”
→ Vogue posted a vlog of Gong Jun getting ready as well as nine photos. [subbed video]
→ Elie Saab posted nine of the earlier photos of Gong Jun in the custom clothes they designed for him.
→ Hogan posted three of Gong Jun’s earlier photos highlighting their shoes.
→ Gong Jun posted four photos of his performance outfit. Caption: “Bright” These were also posted to his Xiao Hong Shu with the same caption, and to his Instagram with the caption “There’s report of a performance tonight!” and @ing the designer Georges Hobeika.
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of his performance outfit. Additional Reading: → Flora’s daily fan news → It was noticed back at the start of the month, around the same time as him deleting half his Instagram posts, that the follower count on Gong Jun’s Instagram has been rising dramatically (sometimes almost 100k a day) due to new accounts / bots following. The same is also happening with his Weibo follower count. There are worries that this is setting up to create an image of fans mass unfollowing him, please brace yourself in case an attack comes soon. At the time of this post, his Instagram is just shy of one million and his Weibo is just shy of 20 million. [record of activity]

To me, the other issue is that while I had my problems with the execution (mainly YCY who is one of the worst cdrama actresses I've ever seen and the only reason she doesn't have first place is because Cheng Xiao exists; she was decent in Heroes (2022) - a miracle - but not anywhere else), LYST had a lot of really interesting ideas about what mortal "experiences" mean to deities and what are true selves etc etc.
Fox so far doesn't really have anything to think about. "Spirits and Humans are both OK and oppression is bad unless a pretty princess does it" isn't a particularly interesting message.
And yes - the large cast does it no favors. Nobody is truly explored and everyone is a bit lost. You CAN make a large ensemble cast interesting and make you invested but it's hard (I am watching Joy of Life 2 contemporaneously and it has a much larger cast than Fox but they are all complex and I invest in them - but the writing, directing and acting have to be in place for this and in Fox that isn't.)
I also enjoy Yuechi being heroine coded and FL being the icy hero melted stereotype but it all goes back to the fact that it all seems great on paper but it feels like Cliffs Notes in execution. I keep getting the feeling that I should like it more than I do. Take secondary OTP - brawn not brains carefree fighter lady and a flirty man who is clearly not what he seems is fun in theory but in the drama I ff because there is no charge, no underlying draw.
I hope they worked out whatever it was with the other two because I adore both Liu Shi Shi and Cheng Yi and hope their dramas are great - at least they appear to have more of an identity to them, even if it's a "Liu Shi Shi drama" or "Cheng Yi drama" - that's not a bad thing since I like both a typical LSS or a typical CY drama. (They also look like they have a much smaller cast to focus on, and that should help.)
Ultimately, the problem is that Yang Mi is someone I used to adore but she's been walking through the motions for years and isn't really the person to overcome a bland script of a lacking direction through sheer chops or charisma. Maybe once upon a time but no longer. And Gong Jun is very fun in the role but without more than "fun and charming" ML this isn't enough to hang my hat on. I mean, I ultimately bailed on LYST and Ding Yuxi's character and performance were both superior to anything here.
I am gonna say though… iQIYI cannot maintain an entire Fox Spirit Matchmaker drama franchise with this level of quality. They’ve finished filming three of these shows, but I feel like it’s going to end up a huge money sink if the standard doesn’t raise.
To me this show also does not look quite as good as even Love You Seven Times? The directing feels very amateur at times. Immaculate costuming though, of course.
Like I’m still watching for sure because I am interested in the overall plot, but this last arc had me literally yelling at the tv multiple times, like a guy watching sports when the ref makes a terrible call.
At this point it is becoming obvious that the magic of LBFAD was in the specific crew of the series, and not in Stellar’s name being on it.

Two Naughty Ghosts
We're getting closer and closer to Halloween, and who knows, one evening you too... could come face to face with a ghost!
I don't know who is more scared here, this ghost or our two playful little figs!
I laughed when I opened this box - their faces are just too funny!
The set came in two pieces - Zhehan and Gong Jun together as one fig and the hollow ghost. The two figs aren't removable - they're permanently like this.
We'll do a quick spin around on these two before we tackle the ghost!
We have a cute GJ❤️ZZH patch on Junjun's shirt pocket here, but not too much in the way of other detail on the clothes. No distractions from the hilarious expressions on their faces!
You can see here how the figs are stacked up. I will note the fig engineering here is great - no wobbling or concerns about this fig combo falling over backwards. It feels plenty stable to me.
I'm glad Junjun is holding onto Zhehan's ankles here, and also glad that Zhehan has so much core strength, because this is not an inherently stable position!
I find this fig set very funny - people are endlessly creative!
This fig set has the classic JZP fig proportions where Zhehan is curvy and Junjun is thin and narrow.
These are in general, chunky figs - they're pàng pàng, or 胖胖 style figs. All the English-speaking fans I know (me included) refers to them as chonks, or chonkers, to distinguish themselves from the other fat-body style figs. The chonks are also from are a particular artist that is currently all the rage in the fandom fig making circuit. This style typically sells out very quickly (sometimes within seconds).
No surprise, their expressions are very cute!
Junjun's scared face here is hilarious to me, it has so much personality! Not to be outdone, Zhehan's little shouting face here makes me laugh, and his little fang is super cute!
The bottoms-up views are never too interesting with the figs with stands, but here we go.
Both sides here - you can see Zhehan is mostly draped over Junjun, with his feet barely on his shoulders.
Zhehan's little hands are super cute. This is actually a nice view of his little fang as well!
The cute surprise here is that our two rascally boys ARE the ghost! They can pop the ghost costume on over their heads, and abracadabra....they're the ones scaring other people!
Here they are, ready to trick-or-treat! You can barely see the stand underneath the costume. There's not a ton to see with the ghost costume, so I'll just do a few pics:
I'll note that the costume is actually pretty snug...I turn the fig stack over and carefully maneuver the costume over Zhehan's outstretched hands so it fits nicely over them. It's definitely not something you just drop over their heads or push down on.
The box card that came with the set is so funny! The ghosties are actually super cute, I wish they had been a separate purchase or something, I would have totally bought them.
Come back tomorrow for more Halloween fun!
Material: Resin
Fig Count: 474
Scene Count: 31 (I don't think this counts, I would have needed a lot more ghosties)
Rating: Two rascally boys indeed
