handwritten golic vulcan (as shown by omniglot) deserves more love. that alphabet is gorgeous and fun to write and sick as fuck and much better than its swirly sibling that steps off the page and punches me in the mild dyslexia every time i see it. 10/10 recommend taking a look

just found out that vulcan is a super fleshed out conlang and possible to learn. what if we all kissed on the mouth
#diary#modern golic vulcan. what if we were lovers. take my hand#i read fanfic with a lot of vulcan in it and im going my goodness you're so creative this seems so interesting and non-repetitive almost as#if it was an actual conlang and the author goes. i'm practicing my vulcan with this fic and my jaw dropped to the floor cartoon style

I'm convinced that there is a heavy organizational power behind the impossibility of the Vulcan language. I'm going to call it the Vulcan Linguistics Academy.
The VLA is responsible for the Vulcan language dictionary and the grammar lessons. Its mission statement says that it is dedicated to improving Vulcan-galactic relations and cooperation, allowing greater knowledge of Vulcan cultural touchstones to outsiders, and improving the accessibility of Vulcan literature.
Its actual goal is the exact opposite: to keep Vulcan secrets and confuse outsiders. It also attempts to universalize, standardize, and rationalize the Vulcan language—which can't be done, given the antiquity and diversity of Vulcan tongues. But that doesn't stop them.
So the VLA calmly and with a straight face pronounces that Vulcan possesses no swears at all, only a few derogatory prefixes, which normal Vulcans never use. Even though anybody who's been around Vulcans long enough has heard at the very least bath'paik and ponfo mirann, the VLA refuses to acknowledge either one exists.
The VLA offers few words for emotions, attempting to convince us Vulcans tediously slap roots together any time they want to say "sorry" or "lonely." Pretty sure that was a lie (sorry, an omission) and they just didn't want us to know feelings were a thing they ever talked about.
The VLA is why the universal translator glosses t'hy'la as "friend" and doesn't translate pon farr at all. (By roots, allegedly, pon farr means "time time," or at least that's what they want you to think.)
Uhura hates the VLA. It constantly gets between her and understanding the language. She's had to beg, borrow, and steal source documents to derive the language herself.
Spock likes it. It makes it very easy for him to say whatever the heck he wants about Vulcan culture and not get called out by it.
And Amanda Grayson? The one Terran fully fluent in modern Golic?
She's on the VLA board 😏

(Belated) WIP Wednesday
I've been tagged by pretty much everybody I would tag back. Since all y'all actually put something up yesterday, I won't spam your mentions.
Meanwhile, here's an excerpt from an Untitled Spirk WIP with the premise of "Wait, We're Married?" It takes place 4-5 months after Amok Time.
---
“How fares thy husband, Spock?” asked T’Pau.
Kirk watched the subtle march of expressions on Spock’s face as he tried to contain his exasperation.
“As you know, great-grandmother, I remain unbonded.”
“Your husband,” T’Pau lifted a hand, pointing to the captain, “James Kirk.”
The bridge crew stared at Kirk.
Kirk stared at Spock.
Spock glared at T’Pau.
“Honored Matriarch, I understand how crude translations from Federation Standard into our Vulcan Golic may be misleading. James Kirk is my captain, not my husband.”
“Nay, Spock,” said T’Pau. “Be not ashamed. I know the men of my line.”
As someone fluent in Spock’s own micro expressions, Kirk watched a faint but familiar bemused annoyance color T’Pau’s features.
“Thy father and grandfather before thee found humans … irresistible,” said T’Pau.
“Great-Grandmother,” Spock began.
T’Pau held up a silencing hand. Everyone on the bridge reflexively sat up straighter. “Challenge was issued, and challenge was met. Thou fought with him upon our Sacred Sands of Vulcan and did not die. He fought with thee and yet still lives. By our laws, thou art wed.”
Kirk couldn’t suppress a grin. “Why, Mr. Spock! You didn’t even buy me a ring!”
“The consort of Sarek has taken responsibility for your territorial markers,” said T’Pau.
“Wait, what?” Kirk’s eyes widened.
Spock’s low voice was laced with frustration. “Great-Grandmother, no.”
“Challenge was made and accepted by our ancient laws.” said T’Pau. “Had thee died, T’Pring would be his consort. As thee live, thou belongst to him.”
The crew looked from Spock to Kirk and back again.
“Your James Kirk must come to Vulcan. Consort Amanda Grayson will give unto thee the ring worn by her mother’s mother as a symbol of her own bonding. She is disappointed thee went not unto thy ancestral home to retrieve it when last thee walked the sands of Vulcan.”
Chekov leaned close to Sulu, “The keptin is in trouble with his mother-in-law!”
“Indeed,” said T’Pau. “Spock, there be a diplomatic gathering eighteen days hence. Thou shalt attend.”
“Honored Foremother, I am a Starfleet officer,” said Spock, “Not a diplomat.”
“Before the witnesses, thou shalt place thy ancestral ring upon Kirk’s hand so all who behold him will know he is thine. When he is so marked, he shall sculpt thy pendant with his own hands, so you will have his presence upon thy body whensoever thou shalt be parted.”
“That’s so romantic,” Uhura whispered. Sulu furtively nodded.
“What kind of diplomatic event is this?” asked Chekov.
“The kind that doubles as a wedding reception.” Uhura whispered.

Got a new lanyard and now I'm like "maybe this time I'll use it consistently" lol. It's from a Kickstarter but it's still available on the artist's website here.
Anyways, it's got our handmade communication cards, our favorite fidget, and some little charms that mean a lot to us as well as a pronoun pin and a fanmade star trek pin.
The pin is Golic Vulcan calligraphy and means "kaiidth", which translates loosely to "it is what it is". We use it to remind ourselves that we can't control everything and that it's okay to go with the flow.
#idek how else to tag this#autism#actually autistic#communication cards#star trek#wereposts#sure that'll do

I began learning golic vulcan a couple days ago and it seems that Spock's name has been misspelled throughout his whole life?? Turns out the federation universal translator goofs up regularly, misplacing letters and adding some that doesn't even exist on the vulcan alphabet, like C for example. But i also get him for not bringing the issue because being named Spahkh is kinda embarrassing already.

Kweldii, Laguage of Kwelden. Gone.
i am absolutely devestated. I had been working on a project for months, spent hours and hours on it, and it all got fucking deleted because the ipad i was using got wiped without any warning. I was just about to back up the project too to save it and like as soon as i was about to do it it was all. fucking. gone. my ipad wasn't even supposed to get wiped. It wasn't even supposed to happen on their end, it was a mistake.
i had been creating a language. from scratch. and not just cool characters that are really just a font for english (like aurebish), not even just made up words and characters that sound cool but really just follow english structure.
I created an an entire original alphabet (based loosely on chinese/japanese particals and korean), number system, punctuation (which was somewhat influenced by spanish), and even grammar (which was a mix of english and japanese styles) (i had both english articles and japanese particals) (i was still debating if i wanted the sentence structure to have the verb in the middle like english or the verb at the end like japanese though), and more. This was a language. That was complex. Or at least beginning to be. I even had different styles of speech (and even slightly different alphabetical characters) for different formalities/regions.
the latest thing i had accomplished in the language (which i was very proud of) was an entire page of pronouns (which, this language does not have gendered pronouns), which included first person, second person, third person inanimate, third person animate, and second third person animate (for when you are talking about two people to differentiate who is who) (i think swedish or something has this??). And plural versions of those pronouns. And there was multiple ways to "you", too, that have different meanings (much like japanese).
This was influenced by and a blend of english, japanese, chinese, spanish, swedish, tolkien elvish, golic vulcan, and me. It was so much.
I put so much care and effort into this. I could talk about it for so long. But i don't remember it anywhere near enough to ever replicate. I hadn't worked on it for a few weeks when i finally got back on to work on it again & back it up (only to find everything erased), so i remember almost nothing. And every little character i made was matched with a sound for a reason, i didn't just make random character and assign random sounds. Every number sounded and looked that was with purpose. Every particle and article and prefix and suffix i made with reason that each one i spent time on. and this was a project i worked on for fucking MONTHS. and it's all. fucking. gone. and i can't replicate it. i can't "take what i remember and work from there" because i remember too, far too little. I researched for this, and worked on this. I poured so much care into this. and it's all gone.
They wiped my ipad without any warning, it apparently happened by accident, i hadn't backed up the files yet (i was literally planning on doing it the day it got erased), and when i reached out to see if they could save it, they could only retrieve my files from a YEAR ago but not the one from literally less than a month ago. it's all gone. everything is gone. and i had loved it so much and i can't ever have it back. it's not something i can recreate.
i'm devastated.
(it wasn't apple who wiped the ipad by the way, it was a really complicated situation)

Personal Log: James speaking. I am in another universe or another timeline. People here are very nice. However, I find myself jealous because THEY MADE SECURITY PURPLE OVER HERE. God. I wish we were purple back in my timeline. Also medical is in blue and white rather than just blue or blue and pale blue. Still....purple. I will not get over it.
Anyway, I am being well taken care of by my alternate self's husband who is...very nice. Vulcans here though are quite a bit different, more...expressive? Like, they don't seem as emotionally constipated. I'm taking back a volume of "The Advanced Teachings of Surak" that has been gifted to me to add to my collection of books which include "The Teachings of Surak". I don't think I'll share it with others, but apparently he lived to the ripe old age of 315 over here through more advanced medicine, healthy living, luck, and good genes. The advanced teachings includes some interesting stuff from later in his life where he goes into more depth of how he intended for his teachings to be taken/read since apparently he saw that many Vulcans were not reading into his intentions properly.
I could kill someone with this book because it's over 20 lbs of paper. However, it contains all his writings from the beginning of his career his final writings in old age, including scans of his handwritten documents. It's in Golic though...and I am extremely surprised I can understand it without it being translated to me. Starfleet is doing all they can to exchange us so we can be back in our proper timelines.
