Hi! I am beyond uncomfortable asking for money from other people, but my partner and I really need help to save our chicken, Barbara.

Barb needs surgery to fix a shattered tibiotarsus (the bone between her femur and her lower leg). After three attempts at splinting her leg, the vet told me on Friday that surgery is really her only option other than humane euthanasia, and I really don't want to do that because she is perfectly happy and healthy aside from her broken leg. It just doesn't feel fair to not at least try to raise the funds we need for this.

I know that to some people, Barbara would be "just a chicken," but that's not the case to my partner and me. Our animals at the Funny Farm—that's what we named our home—are everything to us. If Barbara were a cat or dog, we would pursue every option possible to help her have the best quality of life; her being a chicken is no different.

I'm bored and hyperfixating on chickens again so heres most of the nuwho characters as chicken breeds

I'll be basing my choices on both aesthetics and personality but some may be more of one than the other lol

13 is a buff bramha. They're super sweet and affectionate but they can also kick your ass if they want to.

12 is a faverolle. Faverolle roosters are very gentle and mellow but not necessarily super cuddly. Also they're just so fluffy, how could I not pick them for 12

11 is a serama. Seramas are chatty, friendly, good with kids, and are full of personality.

Yaz is an australorp. This is a personal favorite breed of mine since my favorite bird I ever kept was an australorp. They're very curious, outgoing, and friendly but they also have a self assured spirit which keeps them pretty high in any pecking order.

Clara is a Rhode island red. They're pretty bossy and confident but under the right circumstances they can still be loveable and fiercely loyal birds.

River is a modern game. They're known as one of the top fighting breeds in the world and it SHOWS. One look at the legs on this bird will tell you not to mess with it.

Missy is a golden laced wyandotte. Being one of the bossiest breeds I've met, they're certainly a force to be reckoned with. They will fiercely defend their place in the pecking order and make damn sure their underlings know their place.

Dhawan!master is an american game fowl. Yet another famous fighting breed, they're incredibly close to what the chicken's wild ancestors wouldve been like. The roosters plumage is dazzlingly colorful and they will not hesitate to defend their own with beak and claw.

Kate is a Plymouth rock. They're vigilant and brave, with a keen eye for predators and a stoic demeanor.

Osgood is an amerucana. They're known for being very calm, affectionate, and quiet. Some can be quite curious too.

I’ve got 11 hens! I have an appenzeller spitzhauben (the broody one), an Easter egger, an ameraucana, a sultan, a Dominique, a golden cuckoo maran, a silver spangled hamburg, a speckled sussex, a silver laced Wyandotte, a Colombian Wyandotte, and a lavender Orpington.

Their names in order are Sid Vicious, Horace, Dipstick, Genie P, Pepper, Pumpkin, Dewey, Cinnamon, Toki, Michael Wave, and Cloudy

Począwszy od 1900 roku hodowca drobiu Oskar Vorwerk zaczął tworzyć średniej wielkości, użytkowego kurczaka z pasiastym wzorem upierzenia Lakenvelder. Kluczową różnicą w wyglądzie byłby ciemnozłoty kolor bazowy Vorwerka, a nie biały Lakenvelder. Dlatego jego kurczak jest czasami błędnie nazywany Golden Lakenvelder, szczególnie w Ameryce Północnej. Vorwerki mają pojedynczy grzebień, łupkowo-szary podpuch i białe płatki uszu.

been having a lot of bird dreams recently. Night before yesterday I dreamed we took in a batch of baby ducks that sort of turned into baby chickens

then last night I dreamed I was taking a walk through the neighborhood and saw an abandoned flock of rhode island reds, a gorgeous golden wyandott, and a cluster of speckled white hens like the ones I have now. I think my subconscious is making up for the lack of new birds this year.
