Prompt 345
Let it be known that none of them actually expected the idiots’ of the week’s ritual to work. The summoning hadn’t worked for literal centuries- everyone knew it had been sealed away, presumably forever!
(Of course they had no way to know that in the Infinite Realms actually used the term forever as a measurement of time, what with how time itself wasn’t particularly linear within. And to beings that could hypothetically live for eternity? Forever was a nice vacation time really)
So maybe they hadn’t been exactly focused on stopping the ritual as much as they could of been, and by the time they realized it was working, well, it’d been a bit too late then. So yes, mistakes had perhaps in fact, been made.
First had come the chill, the cold of the ground as your body was lowered down, the cold of your blood dripping from your living corpse. Then came the shadows, the darkness creeping along their vision as their soul slipped from their body. Followed by boiling heat, flames scorching through their flesh and tearing from their chests like a blade piercing their hearts.
The form that emerged was massive, a cloak dripping crimson fluttering in the wind of an unseen battlefield, verdant flames licking at the air and causing the surrounding shadows to writhe. A dark growl echoed through the building, the stone below them shaking while deathly green eyes glowered down at the living with utter contempt.
“Do any of you imbeciles know how long it takes to get ghostlings to sleep-”

i dont think people are upset that the erins "weren't creative" enough with Moonpaw, they're upset that she's just. not a chimera. thats just a longhaired tortie and they justified it with chimerism. which is extremely insensitive because chimerism is a real medical thing that can cause issues in every species, including humans for those that dont know, and thats like. a big thing.
like, yay some disability rep (depending on how they write it. it wont be good. ughh) but like. its not going to be considered a disability when it can be in some cases. they are just going to say "ohh shes so special!!" like some people say with autism in this age (the infantilization of it) and its gonna be. weirdddd
anyways. sorry for ranting in your inbox.
Hey. Woah. THIS is insensitive and I don't know where you're getting this from. NONE of the three types of natural chimerism are a disability and it is extremely rare that fusion chimerism leads to medical complications.
Do not spread misinformation about a genetic condition because you're annoyed about the writing team confusing a common tortie fur pattern with chimerism. THEIR mistake is ultimately harmless. What YOU'RE doing is stigmatizing.
Quite frankly, after seeing a bunch of posts and receiving several asks about this, I don't think half of the people who are getting mad actually know anything about chimeras. I sure as fuck hope it's just ignorance, and that you aren't out here trying to call the state of being intersex a disability.
But I can fix ignorance. No need to assume malice. I will explain what chimerism is, and why you should stop going around implying it "causes issues in every species."
Chimerism is when a single individual is comprised of cells from two or more fully fertilized zygotes. There are two BROAD types of chimerism;
Artifical
Natural
Artifical chimeras are common with the advent of modern medicine. Ever had a blood transfusion? Organ transplant? You are a chimera. Or at least were for a while.
THIS can lead to complications and can cause disability, but it's not what Moonpaw is. She would be a type of natural chimera, which in and of itself has THREE subtypes;
Micro chimerism
Blood chimerism
Fusion chimerism
Microchimerism is so common that I could make a Your Mom joke out of it. It's caused by the passage of cells between the fetus and placenta during pregnancy. Everyone who has ever been pregnant is a microchimera.
While it can lead to complications, it can also be beneficial. Pregnancy could be considered a type of temporary disability, but no one would expect disability rep from every character who had ever given birth.
Blood chimeras are common in species whose twins typically share a placenta, such as cows and marmosets, but very rare in animals like humans and cats which usually don't. It occurs when tissue between two twins is exchanged through the umbilical chord. This type of chimera often ends up with a mixed bloodtype, hence the name.
This is the cause of freemartinism in cattle, when fraternal cow twins cause a sister to share her brother's hormones and act more like a bull. A type of intersex condition, not a disability-- so I sure HOPE you aren't trying to imply THIS should be "disability rep."
And even in the other case, would you automatically expect disability rep from a character that has two blood types?? No. Just like you wouldn't automatically expect disability rep from every character that had ever been pregnant, or every character who had ever needed a blood transfusion
And lastly, the one that Moonpaw ACTUALLY is. A fusion chimera. These are created when two fully fertilized zygotes fuse into a single individual.
These are extremely rare because you can't usually TELL when an individual is a chimera. There is no obvious physical difference between the "halves," with some cases of doctors insisting that patches are just weird birthmarks. They live their entire lives with normal health problems like non-chimeras. It mostly causes complications when DNA testing results in a false negative-- because the offspring of a fusion chimera occasionally end up being their genetic nespring.
Or, the two "halves" are male and female, causing gonadal differences. These people aren't disabled, there's nothing wrong with their bodies, but they're subjected to unneccesary cosmetic surgeries as children because they are intersex.
Say it. SAY IT. INTERSEX. I N T E R S E X. IM GRABBING YOU BY THE SHIRT AND SHAKING YOU THEY ARE INTERSEX.
Can some intersex conditions cause disabilities? YES. Are intersex conditions inherently disabilities? NO. Even when you're discussing infertility as a disability, tread VERY CAREFULLY because intersex people are fighting very hard to lift the stigma over their bodies.
Speak with care. Do not equate being intersex with being disabled. They are two different things.
You can be both and sometimes one could contribute to the other, but BEING intersex IS NOT a disability.
VERY rarely, even MORE rare than standard chimeras which are already very very rare and massively underreported because they are so unremarkable, a fusion chimera will happen LATE in utero. THIS can contribute to a chronic autoimmune condition where the cells reject each other, which is a disability.
And by rare I mean one case. Literally one. Of the 50 reported fusion chimeras in the review I'm referencing, Taylor Muhl was the only one with this. 4 were discovered via congenital abnormalities (unknown if connected to the chimerism b/c they were only tested because something was already wrong), 17 had fertility issues, and the remaining 28 didn't report immune conditions or birth defects but INTERSEXUALITY.
ANOTHER condition is often lumped in with chimerism, by people who do not know what chimerism is, which is mosaicism. Mosaicism, when there are two different sets of genes resulting from the same zygote, is NOT chimerism. MOSAICISM can be a cause of disability. CHIMERISM is usually not.
(Read the review in depth, as it includes mosaic cases for the sake of completion.)
They can both be fertilization errors, but are not the same thing. Follow me, I'm only going to woefully simplify a complicated topic once,
CHIMERA = Two zygotes in one body
MOSAIC = Two bodies in one zygote
CHIMERA = usually fine
MOSAIC = usually bad
And the last possible places you could be getting the idea that chimerism "causes disability" from, to my knowledge, is 1. This study that says the loss of a twin in early pregnancy increases the chance of congenital defects in the survivors (has barely anything to do with chimerism, this link is tangential, vanishing twin syndrome does not necessarily mean it was absorbed by its sibling)
Or, 2, this study of several animals where they correlated rates of benign tumors to % of chimerism based on SPECIES. BLOOD chimeras. It's COWS AND MARMOSETS AGAIN. The study ITSELF calls for further targeted research of chimerism cause of susceptibility to cancer.
It couldn't even link new growths or malignant tumors to chimerism in the mammals of its study. WE'RE mammals.
Correlation does not equal causation. Statistics 101.
So no. That's not "a big thing." Chimerism is fine, they're just very likely to be intersex if they're a fusion chimera of a male and a female zygote. Do not imply intersexuality is a disability. Please get mad about the actual ableism in the series, not the team being clueless about tortie patterns.
Also everyone say you're sorry to intersex Moonpaw. I better see you people making intersex Moonpaw pride flag edits as penance IMMEDIATELY.
UPDATE: Anon apologized! Growth! I still think this is an important post, especially in the context of the wider fandom conversation, so I'm leaving it as-is. Please feel free to reblog.
UPDATE 2: Clarification on infertility as a disability because I didn't word myself very well in one section!

it's 2024 and Eliza's Faith Lehane is STILL the MVP!
Tumblr media
so yeah, yet another Eliza Dushku appreciation post!
(I'm remaking this in 2024 to keep it positive. Felt like my last version of this got overly negative about a certain character and ship.)
Tumblr media
Yes I am still not over the fact that Faith didn't have a last name until 2 years AFTER BTVS went off the air. She literally DID NOT HAVE A LAST NAME the whole time she was on the show. (Neither did Kendra BTW.)
In the literal dictionary sense: Faith is technically a minor character in terms of screen time. (Whaaaa???) She was in 20 episodes of BTVS and 6 of ATS. She was never listed in the main cast for either. She was not in the BTVS (or ATS) 20 year cast reunion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We know Eliza played Faith as having a crush on Buffy. In cons Eliza consistently supported the idea of Fuffy (Faith x Buffy). If your view cuts off the right gif caption, it's Eliza saying "me and Buffy should've made out."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
26 years after her debut, and people are still talking about Faith Lehane! There's gorgeous gifsets and insightful meta essays and brilliant shit posts and cute text posts and amazing webweaving poetry posts and even polls about Faith. And all the same for Fuffy! (I'm not even talking about the fanfic, even though new Faith and Fuffy fanfic is still getting posted.)
Tumblr media
(also pretend there's a gif here from that 2022 movie Crush where Chantal says "I post to tumblr all the time. That's mostly just like Buffy, Faith...")
Faith and Fuffy are still inspiring people, even though the show has been off the air for 20+ years now!
So... also proud to be a part of FUFFY Nation. Sometimes I get a little choked up (like Buffy here) and sometimes I get impressed and thoughtful (like Faith here).
Tumblr media
Happy Faith Lehane Day y'all!
Faith debuted 26 years ago on October 13th. The show would not have been the same without her. And neither would we!
-----
I make no gifs! GIF credits:
top (sweet on her) is from BTVS 7x20 by raggeddypondond (Kelly's growth) from lactose-intolerant-nihilism (drink and porch) both from BTVS 7x19 by shelly-johnson (left con quote) is from thisyearsgirls (right con quote) is from goaskmalices (damn) and (right in the feels) both from BTVS 7x18 by cwladiesdaily

tbh I think that there being no big story somewhere for your dogs is what made them fun when I first found them, if that makes sense.
Like the first art I saw of Machete was the teen art you did of him back in June, and it was like oh??? who is this liddol guy? why is he sad?? ‘It’s the bug-eyed teachers apprentice again’ who is talking about him? Then later I saw the ‘nodding off at the office’ one and it was like oh! It’s the dog again!!!! why he mad? why he eepy? and then stumbling across Art of him and Vasco (I think it was the reunion one) and it was like alr Ive gotta find out who this doggo is
Anyway I remember sitting in the grass of my grandparents front lawn and going through your entire blog to learn more about Machete :3 it was so so fun to pick up little bits and pieces of him as I went further back So I think that experience was a neat core part of discovering your dogs and I really love that.
A couple of people have said the same thing, and I think it's wonderful that you found them interesting enough that you went through the trouble of combing through my old posts and figuring out how things connect!
I can see how the process itself might be part of the fun for some, but you'd have to be really invested in these dogs to go scouting for that hard to find and disorganized lore. I'd imagine it takes a lot of effort, initiative and time to do that.

Every time I see a "they clearly needed more seasons, they didn't have time to tell the full story properly" I lose 10 years of my life and 5 particles of my sanity. Why in the world would they need additional seasons to tell a full story, when in season 1 they were perfectly capable of it with the same 9 episodes? In season 1 they didn't waste our time at all, every scene was meaningful, every line of dialog said something important to us or set up something for later. The way the story was structured showed us that the writers understood their limitations and decided to use every single second they had properly. Also said limitations allowed them to focus on one specific overarching conflict (Piltover vs Zaun) and one specific set of characters, each of whom were directly involved in said conflict. No other distractions or side plots that go nowhere.
And there's season 2. Suddenly the writers decided that dialogs are for losers, actually, and it's better to replace characters reacting to major world-changing events (like Silco's death for example) with music videos. Weird choice, but okay. Oh, a bunch of new characters that serve no practical role in the narrative and distract actually important characters from interacting with each other? Give me 10. Also add a bunch of side storylines that go nowhere and serve no purpose to the main conflict- *the phone rings**picks up* what do you mean the main conflict changed? It's not about Zaun and Piltover anymore? What do you mean this conflict is left unresolved and is forgotten about completely in act3? Then what on earth do they focus on instead??? What, arcane? Meaning like. What? The magic subplot that was only a small part of season 1? And why would it matter more? Ah, marvel fights. Uh-huh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, sure. I get it, thank you *hangs up*. Well, that was a disaster. The decision to change your MAIN CONFLICT in the middle of the story is probably one of the worst ones you could ever make, and then yeah, no wonder they didn't have time to tell the full story. Because they don't know what the hell the story is about anymore. Therefore they can't use the resources at hand effectively and every wrong decision they make going forward is going to make everything even worse. And from what we see they made plenty of wrong decisions. Remember what I said about not wasting our time? Well forget it, because you NEED to see this joke play out in full, even though it's not funny in the slightest and doesn't tell us anything significant about the characters or the world. Also there's flashbacks that also don't contribute anything substantial to existing character stories, and even actively make them worse and inconsistent (ily Felicia🫶🫶🫶). And then there's the entirety of ep7 which is an abysmal abomination in and of itself. Not only does it waste our time with an alternative universe that has nothing to do with the canon conflict and characters in the first place, but it actively pretends that it does matter, actually. Which is detrimental to the whole story going forward. Because now instead of on-screen character interactions and actual resolving of existing conflicts within the story we're just told. To imagine it ourselves. Because the au somehow implied what was going to happen between completely different characters. Somehow. Alright.
So, I hope the reasons I listed above more or less explained why arcane, in fact, did NOT require more seasons to tell its story in full. What it did require was more tight writing, focusing on the conflict we had initially, flashing out the existing dynamics between characters and introducing the characters who didn't interact previously to each other (for example: Jinx and Jayce), thought through dialogs which focused on giving us important information first and foremost, less music videos and more actual scenes with dialogs and characters reacting to the world around them properly, subplots that actually mattered to the main conflict etc. Like, it really is THAT basic. If the story is badly written more runtime isn't going to fix anything, it could even make it worse, because more time = more chances to screw up even more stuff. Only good writing can fix bad writing, and that's an unfortunate truth we have to come to terms with. No amount of pretty visuals or microexpressions or character/prop design is going to change what is ruined at its core.

I understand that this may be a TOUGH question but I’m gonna ask it anyway…
If you could hit a button and wipe away season 9-11 and I want to believe from existence would you hit that button?
Nope! Really and truly. :DDDDD They're great fodder for me to dive into meta, to delve deeper into the minds of the writers, to clarify the actors' and fans' frustrations. Without Season 9 we wouldn't have Spotnitz stating that no one can get the "truth" but that Mulder and Scully found love after nine years and that's enough. We wouldn't have DD reflecting on his abrupt departure from the show and wondering if Gillian felt then what he felt post-Revival. We wouldn't have CC trying to start a movie franchise, and failing; and trying to start another via the Revival, and failing again; and blaming the fans the studio the overheads or GA for those failures. We wouldn't have David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson coming back to their characters and the fandom with fresh eyes how many years later.
I will say: I would absolutely hit a button that rewrote those seasons. Keep William; or adopt him out but justify it. Mulder and Scully go on the run and have rocky patches in their relationship; but justify it. Maggie Scully dies with secrets; but justify it. William is a jerk teenager; but justify it. Monica Reyes doesn't become a traitor; or does, but justify it.
And, for sappy reasons: I have mutuals who love those seasons. I wouldn't take that away from them, even if I'm a big ol' hater. XDDD

Philza Malewife Competition Round 5
Previous rounds: Cleaning. Cooking. Decorating. Karens. Current points: The Lambs Wolves Wear (2), Lighting Lanterns Philza (1), Weight in Gold (1), everyone else (0).
For a quick synopsis for the fics I’m referencing- those are here
Next round: Helping out their poor sick kid :(
and....uh...this one lost our family friendly rating. Oops?
Tumblr media
Lord what fools these mortals be!: Is that a stomach bug? He'll fix them right up! Usually Lady Death is in charge of fixing their children, of course, but if given permission he's more than happy to help!Ripping the offending organ out of his child's belly is so easy with his big sharp claws (courtesy of his wonderful Lady!!). Next to craft a new stomach out of ice and shadow, shove it back in, lace mortal flesh together, and voila! Now their stomach will be perfect. It'll have to be, if they are to survive the Fae Wilds :)
Where do Babies Come From?: Has the classic plastic bag covering a kids trash can for all your vomit needs! It's a spider-man trash can too. Plus some cough drops (the tasty citrus kind) and sprite and medicine from going to the Emergency Room. He's offered to pick up anything from the local gas station that the kid wants, set them up with lots of pillows and netflix...but Philza does still have to go to work. Especially after he got the ER bill. Doesn't let the kid see it, of course, but...oof. He's going to have to put in a lot of overtime to catch up from this.
Lighting lanterns to bring you home: A swift cut, and the sacrificial lamb is lain on the alter. Philza knows all the prayers and rituals across the horizon in both directions. Afterward he cleans the knife off slowly. The gods will cure the kid's illness, if they know what's good for them. And if not...well. Technoblade can just bring the kid back with him when he returns from Hell in the Spring. And give him the tea on how Lady Death is entertaining her new surge of godly company.
The Lambs Wolves Wear: There's no medicine. Not really. He knows a few soothing herbs, but not much more than that. The journey into town is too long and hard, might just make it worse. And even then, he can't afford real medicine. So Philza coats the room in trinkets, in rings of salt and straw dolls and crimson ribbons. Holy words smudged on the kid's palms with leftover dye from the wool. And Philza waits, and hold the kid's hand through the long, long night. He falls asleep at the bedside still praying. He shivers slightly, in his sleep, haunted with the memory of holding Technoblade's hand as illness stole his last breath.
Worth far more than your weight in gold: Birb doesn't understand germ theory. He doesn't know what medicine is. All he can do is tuck the sick child under wings to make sure they are soft and warm and dry. Luckily unlike the humanoid Philza's, this Phil is less likely to catch the illness due to the species barrier, and is very safe to snuggle with. But there isn't much more he can do, and since he lives in a nest there isn't much protection from the elements. He's worried, and feels useless. Would eating a dead squirrel fix it?
Fault: As an immortal that's made it to modern day, this Philza knows every remedy under the sun, and offers a combination of home remedies he foraged by hand and ground up into medicine with a mortar and pestle, AS WELL AS medicine Wil stole from the store. Plus some honey from Tubbo for that cough, and it goes well with the herbal tea he made. During chills, he also makes for the best blanket ever, the fire in his chest warm and hot as he cradles the kid close. This Philza by far knows the most about healthcare. But also if the kid needs cheering up (and their humor falls in this area), Philza will also teasingly threaten to use leeches to balance their humors.
Mandatory Family Reunion: Philza has a policy of cancelling all plans the moment one of his children is sick so that he can be at their side the entire time. Reading familiar bedtime stories, spoon feeding food, attending to their every whim and then some. Unlike all other Philza's this one offers luxury S-tier pillows, every single streaming service and video game ever made, and has world-class doctors attending to every cough this kid makes. Honestly the Queen of England didn't have this good a deathbed. Now...for transparency's sake, I must establish has MFR Techno been bedridden 3 times because Philza induced illness in him (Roofies (accident; mixed bad with meds/concussion); Bedridden with every vaccine ever (intentional, but for crying out loud this kid doesn't have protection against chicken pox!); Tranquilizer/chemical pacifier (so Techno would stop trying to attack him)). But that wasn't necessarily so he could have a placid Techno too weak to resist dotting, just an appreciated side effect. The kid in question probably wasn't mildly poisoned...
Golden Apples (Gilded Atrophy): Philza tosses over some regen potions and a golden carrot for saturation. That's about the best he can do. Unless the kid wants to be killed so they can respawn at a non-sick save point? Philza has a sleeping potion and a sword if that's the case. They wouldn't feel a thing and would be good as new in two minutes tops. Eh? No? Suit yourself. Tubbo, personally, can attest to both the terror and the effectiveness of his respawn surgeries, but hopefully it won't come to that...
