Do you ever get that feeling when watching anime that you question why a specific pairing didn't happen?

I find it interesting that allegedly creative leads (like the anime series directors or editors) of each series had plans for these pairings at one point but ultimately were scrapped.

For Dragon Ball Context: Akira Toriyama's editor had planned and shipped Goku and Bulma, but the idea never happened and shut down. (It is mentioned on a page in Dr. Slump Manga in an Author Note for curious people interested in the source.)

However, remnants of this idea remain in the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z anime, primarily in the Funimation Dub for scenes of Bulma seeing Goku more favorably. Sometimes, the idea appears as a quick gag or background element.

The 23rd World Tournament, Namek Arc, and Post Buu Party are the most apparent of GoBul teasing.

For Sailor Moon Context: Allegedly, Kunihiko Ikuhara is rumored behind most of the Rei/Usagi pairing teases.

Also, just because I ship GoBul and ReiUsa doesn't mean I hate or attack GoChi, VegeBul, or UsaMamo(Anime). This portion of the comment refers more to Dragon Ball fandom than Sailor Moon (based on my experiences) because I have noticed a weird Vendetta surrounding GoBul on online forums over the past few years, to the point of flat-out harassment.

I don't understand when I see posts/tweets saying they don't understand the Goku/Bulma ship, aside that the point of shipping things that aren't canon is exactly to use your imagination and creativity to explore the possibilities of how things would have turned out if they had gotten together

They mention the age difference which...isn't that much ? It's basically nothing if they're adults. And all the gobul shippers I have seen don't like them as kids, only them having a relationship years after they meet.

They say the childhood friends to lovers trope it's bad and of course people have different tastes but what i find interesting about the ship, and still makes me like it to this day, it's how different their personalities are and how they can work in a relationship

I like the idea of selfish, greedy and proud Bulma falling in love with the most innocent man she has ever meet. Someone with no Malice and not a bad thought about anyone. Suddenly she is meet with feelings of inferiority, of not being good enough for him. Having a m/f ship where a woman feels like that compared to the man it's so rare and that's what i like about them.

Suddenly, after a lot of pinning and hurt she can finally accept him as partner and being with him she can learn to be a better person. Goku in the other hand i can see him having no problem accepting his feelings. I know Goku it's not the romantic type, he won't write you love letters or confess his undying love for you under the moonlight but i also love the idea of seeing him in love with someone, suffering because of that love.

After they're settled i see Bulma having no problem with Goku's way of being: not being a house husband and coming and going. But always coming back home to her.

How much I wish these two could stay together.

Goku and Bulma really complete each other, and they get along so well.

Bulma always knew how to make Goku feel good, while Goku was the trustworthy, reliable person she was seeking for. Not to mention, they have great chemistry when it comes to jokes and cheering up.

In this piece, I imagined Bulma had been alone for a while and had the chance to meet up with Goku for a very long conversation, reminiscing about past adventures and feeling nostalgic about them.

She can't help the feelings she's been hiding for him ever since Goku grew up, and they come alive like fire. She curses the day Chi-Chi showed up at the tournament and the prince she had been dreaming of slipped from her grasp. Even though she is happy with Vegeta, she can't forget he came to her as a substitute for the guy she fell in love with first.

As they flip through the photos, Goku senses the true heart he put into those years—the long-forgotten feeling of adventure. It all began with her, Bulma. Without her, nothing would have happened. He would probably still be living alone in the mountains.

Before leaving, Bulma calls out to Goku and hesitates. She wants to tell him, now that they are alone with no one around, but she can't. She can't be that direct. Her stomach is in knots. She can't avoid it, she must tell him somehow. And so she comes up with another approach.

The rest is left to your imagination. 😛

P.S.: I know you hated romance, but Dragon Ball nostalgia struck just a few days before you left for good, Sensei. This is my personal way of thanking you for everything: Dragon Ball truly is the only thing that makes me happy whenever I think of it. You gave us something really precious.

And that's how out of nowhere it occurred to me to make an AU where Goku not only stayed with Bulma but they had a daughter, and his best friend is the son of Tsukutsun Tsun and Akane Kimidori from Dr. Slump.

Talking about GT Gobul.

Context: I talking about Dragon Ball GT: Episode 35

I loved this scene because it showed how deep-rooted the relationship between Goku and Bulma is, so seeing Goku hurt by Bulma can't recognize him because she's possess while also telling him off hurts the heart.

Also, hearing Goku say he would never forgive Baby for doing this shows how personal this is to him, especially with his glance toward Baby. You can see how much he cares for Bulma.

Also, it is a nice contrast to most Gobul scenes of caring because it is mainly from Bulma's perspective of her thinking, concern, or reaction to Goku (from OG-Z), so when the vice versa happens, it feels so satisfying.

Sometimes, I wonder why Gobul didn't happen.
