India Art Fair 2024 Reveals India’s Greatest Power
Commenting on the recent India Art Fair, @JerryGogosian, the alter ego of gallerist Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, remarked: 'The fusion of traditional and modern influences indicates to me that India's soft power, art, will be its greatest power.'

Week 9
Feedback:
Sophia:
There are a lot of behavior that can refer to institutional discourse, if I want to add some interactivity between the audience. In terms of interactivity, the robots are not interacting with the audience. so if I am pursuing an interactive piece with the audience, then I need to rethink the interaction. For example, people gets an id when they enter a space and so on. Interactivity might be more powerful. Also I need to think about the wigs that I am gonna involve. Sophia said if I don’t want to refer to a specific culture, then an abstract wig – like Halloween wigs can work. I also can think about how to make the scene weirder, like having a silicon face on the robot.
My thoughts: I think using Halloween wigs is such a good idea. And if I use the same color one I can achieve a unified aesthetic. It will be interesting if all the small robots wearing silicone face of my casted face model, that will be super cool, but that can be go to another direction, commenting of identity and such.

Liubo:
he can imagine the installation, and the details can make a huge difference about the simulation of human, there will be a lot of technical difficulty if I want to make a realistic moving wig robot. Scale can make a huge difference too. If the size is big, it has a threating feeling, if the size is human size, then it will be more related to human beings. Also if I want to show a repetition, there can be a lot of ways as well: it can be a conveyer belt, and the combing machine is combing the wig, and the wig goes to the other machine – a mess up machine, and then come back to the combing machine again…something like that. In terms of technical experiment, I can find some car avoidance kit and reinstall to try to make a mockup wig robot that can avoid the audience.
My thoughts: wig robots seem difficult, technically speaking. So if the installation has to be that way, then the technical problem is worthy to solve, but if the installation can be a different way and it will be the same powerful, I think the technical issue might not be necessary. So I agree with Liubo’s saying that I might rethink about the robots’ movement.

Linda:
“hahaha it’s funny.” She laughed since I said it would be a combing machine. She said interaction with audience is not important at all, and it is nice to see a machine performance (a robot-robot interactive piece). And I said my original idea is multiple combing machines on the ceiling combing wigs. She advised that I proposal an easier proposal and get to a higher level once I achieved that. She can definitely feel that I am talking about system/authority/institution feeling. And also she feels a topic about robot as labor, which I didn’t expect. It will refer to culture and race either you use a unified color wig or different color wigs, so don’t worry. The sound could be very interesting, there will be machine sound and hair combing sound. It will be funny.
My thoughts: I kinda agree that whether it is interactive is not important. If an interactivity is not adding anything to this piece then I don’t think it is necessary. But I also think if I want to talk about authority/institution and such there are so many possibilities to achieve. The reference provide an artist that is doing the work that I like very much: machines doing some pointless stuff.

Nine Colorful Office Chairs Autonomously Perform a Choreographed Dance Upon a Highly Polished Floor
Nine Colorful Office Chairs Autonomously Perform a Choreographed Dance Upon a Highly Polished Floor
Artist Urs Fischer has created “Play“, a wonderful installation at Gogosian in New York City that features nine office chairs in different colors that autonomously dance around the highly polished floor of the gallery, choreographed by Madeline Hollander. This installation is also interactive in that visitors to the gallery are welcome to try to sit upon the chairsduring the dance, but are…
