Different anon, I don't know much about parrots would you be able to expand on why breeding them is unethical?

I'm too lazy to get really detailed right now, but I don't think we should be breeding parrots to be kept as pets. They have far too complex needs for the average person to keep happy and healthy in their home. Even the very best homes I've ever seen aren't enough, and that includes myself.

I got involved at a parrot specific rescue in 2014 and now work at a vet clinic that sees birds. It's a way bigger surprise to see a parrot that is well cared for than it is to see a parrot that is being severely neglected.

Edit to add: Since you said you don't know much about parrots! They self mutilate pretty bad when they're depressed. Anything from just pulling out feathers to ripping holes in their skin with their beak. We see this all the time at the clinic and we saw it even more often at the rescue.

I have one mad idea (well, maybe not only one). I think John's 'Now And Then' grew out of 'Nobody’s Perfect' by Goffin and King. Not as a remake but as a sequel.

Look. Back to the egg (hah).

In the early 60-s The Beatles play 'Chains', 'Don't Ever Change', 'Take Good Care of My Baby' and the other cool Carole King and Gerry Goffin' songs, right?

Later John Lennon says,

'Well, first of all, Paul [McCartney] and I wanted to be the Goffin and King of England' (J. Wenner, 1971)

It's unlikely John and Paul didn't hear it.

And in 1977 John sings,

Yeah, I know, it's only in my headcanon but I think the Goffin and King song spinned in John's head when he wrote his one. And 'Nobody’s Perfect' for me is like John understands his own mistakes, accepts the reality and thinks about Paul as real Paul not about as an ideal figure on the top of the pedestal. And John's 'Now and Then' is the next step.

if you're ever in any doubt about whether serve accuracy trumps serve speed there's this stat from goffin v zverev (it was shown after a few games but i assume it didn't change too drastically during the match)

average first serve speed - zverev: 213 km/h, goffin: 169 km/h

david won the match in straight sets, with both of them having almost the exact same first serve percentage (65% vs. 67%) and number of first serve points won (65% vs. 67%), david got less 'free' points (3 aces vs. 8) but defended his second serve much better (58% vs. 41%). exact same amount of points won on return (31) but david generated and converted more break points (4/11 vs 2/7)

in conclusion: a serve that was on average over 40 km/h slower (assuming the serve speeds didn't change too much later in the match) was pretty much exactly as effective as the faster serve - in this match and under the specific conditions (if you don't know what i'm talking about here ask daniil medvedev, he will tell you all about the conditions in shanghai :D)
