Top 3 Book Series
1. The Saga of Darren Shan by Darren Shan
Ok, my absolute favorite series that I ever read was the Cirque du Freak series. I like binge read these books in high school and the story is AMAZING! It starts with Darren Shan and his best friend get tickets to go to a freak show and their lives change forever. The vampire culture, the circus aesthetic, the gothic themes to the books. They’re all fantastic and dark and the world-building is wonderful. 5/5 would recommend.
2. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
This series comes in close, very close second to Cirque du Freak. You’re looking at young Percy Jackson finds out he’s the son of Poseidon and is destined for a quest and finds himself in the middle of a growing war. This kid, I love him and every character. Even the villain of the series, you’re feeling for. Each book is based on an underlying myth and it teaches you mythology as you’re reading it and in a fun way.
3. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
I was a very depressed bitch in middle school when I read this and this series was exactly what I wanted. I ended up rereading it again in high school. It was oddly my “feel-good” series that I would read over and over again. When the three Baudelaire children are orphaned, they move from relative to relative as the evil Count Olaf tries to ruin them. This series is so dark and macabre, I love it!

Book Review- The Graveyard Book
Title: The Graveyard Book
Author: Neil Gaiman
Pages: 307
Genre: YA/ Young Readers
Published: 2008
Rating: 5/5
Plot: Nobody Owens lives in a graveyard and has been raised by ghosts, but his curiosity brings him out of the graveyard, where the man who killed his family is still looking for him.
Interest: I’m always interested in anything Neil Gaiman writes. I read this right after I read Coraline.
Favorite Character: The main character, Bod, is my favorite and I like following his story.
Favorite Quote: You’re always you, and that don’t change, and you’re always changing, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Thoughts/Feelings: Neil Gaiman has a way of writing an intriguing and mesmerizing story for all ages, added in with Dave McKean’s amazing artwork, this book will pull you in from the first sentence. Trust me. I couldn’t put this book down.
Pros: Artwork, ghost characters, mystery, killer on the loose, fantastic writing.
Cons: Nothing I can think of.

Young Readers Week 2019
This week we’re celebrating young readers and the books that have reached out to us. Was there a book that spurred you on to read or touched your heart? Here’s my list.
1.“Sharks and Other Wild Water Animals” by Gilda Berger
My grandmother bought me this book and I liked reading about the animals so much that I carried it around with me for a year, just re-reading it.
2. “The Tale of Despereaux” by Kate DiCamillo
This was my first “big kid book”. Prior to this I didn’t really read chapter books. I checked this one out of my elementary school media center 3-5 times to finish it.
3. “The House at Pooh Corner” by A.A. Milne
I didn’t actually read this book until middle school, but it was at a point in my life that I really needed something that was light and fun and this book gave that to me.
4. “Goosebumps” by R.L. Stine
I used to own LOTS of Goosebumps books because they were easy and fun to read. It ignited my love for scary things and monsters.
5. “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling
This book and the series touched a lot of people and became HUGE. I read the first book as a child because my friend was really into it and we’d pretend to be the characters during recess.
6. “Seedfolks” by Paul Fleischman
I actually didn’t like this book too much when we were reading it in my middle school class, but recently I’ve been rereading it and have found the beauty of this book.
Some other young reader books I liked were:
“Dragon Rider” by Cornelia Funke
“How To Train Your Dragon” by Cressida Cowell
“Varjak Paw” by S.F. Said
“Because of Winn-Dixie” by Kate DiCamillo
“The Saga of Darren Shan” by Darren Shan
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” by Rick Riordan
“Holes” by Louis Sachar
“Warriors” by Erin Hunter
“Dealing with Dragons” by Patricia C. Wrede
“A Series of Unfortunate Events” by Lemony Snicket
