Okay okay just listen to me for 0.5 seconds, okay? Godspell has changed my life I'll explain why

I have listened to every single godspell recorded cast album including the Spanish, Danish, and French ones. I have listened to many "All for the Bests" many "We Beseech Thees" I have listened to every single instrumental on YouTube and apple Music plus Spotify. I have performed all for the best in my room millions of times, an performed and re choreographed Godspell from beginning to end. In fact, I have learned to sing low because I've sung Judases verse in all for the best countless times, and have mastered the talent to mimic voices of recorded cast albums of godspell, one of my favorites being the voice of Jeffery Mylett. I have caught myself singing the Danish Version of all for the best even if I don't know what it means. Iv made godspell fanart. I've learned how to make different voices just by performing the parables. I have a Broadway cane that I use to practice. I've listened to albums so fucking closely that I hav the ability to point out the different voices in tower of babble, and know the parts of the harmony at the end of all for the best. That being said, I can tell each sound people make in EVERY We Beseech Thee. The only way I exercise my voice to sing low notes is to sing "Prepare ye". I know every first and last names of the original godspell cast and working on memorizing names of the Broadway cast. I've started shipping characters together faster than you can recite the parable of the Judge and the Widow. I've drawn each movie cast member. I've made up head canons for characters, made a backstory for each of them, and much more. My only form of exercise in the morning is to perform All for the Best. I have successfully lured in 5 of my friends to watch the godspell movie with me. Hell, sometimes I think I sound like a male singing when I sing low. That's how good I think I am. I spent an hour writing this just to let you know.

hhhhhh, Godspell Judas. I lovingly call him Davdas, as he is played by David Haskell. I’ve been working on him for a long time. Happily, watching the full Godspell movie recently has pushed me to finish this.

So I watched the Prom Movie this morning. I gave myself some time to marinate on the subject and I think my conclusion is that it was good. I liked it. Before I go into my Thoughts(tm) on the movie I’m gonna post the notes I took while I watched it (also I haven’t watched the musical in a hot minute so I if I mess something up and the musical did have a thing that I said it didn’t or vice versa sorry) then I’ll give some full thoughts on the movie (which are just my opinion btw).

Yeah so... yeah. I have a couple things I didn’t like, but overall my view is pretty positive. Things I didn’t care for:

1) CUTTING YOU HAPPENED AND DANCE WITH YOU WHAT WAS THE REASON. Literally the movie soundtrack has You Happened with the last verse and it could have been SO COOL to have them meeting in the janitor’s closet or the swim equipment closet to sing their verse together, but NO!

2) The changing up to Emma’s character in It’s Not About Me, and kind of the entire movie in general. By making her more chipper about the events It makes moments where her actions line up with not wanting attention feel out of place. When she’s excited about the broadway gang in It’s Not About Me, it makes her lines in Dance With You seem out of place.

3) The placement of It’s Time To Dance is weird, why are they talking about building a prom for everyone when the prom is already built? This is more of a nit pick, but it kind of made me feel like I was missing something when I was watching the movie.

Okay that’s enough negativity now for the stuff I liked! (in no particular order)

1) Everyone was a good singer. Everyone. There was not a single moment where I wanted someone to stop singing, or I thought the singing was bad. Everyone had a voice and I was here for it. Shoutouts go to Emma and Alyssa (obviously) but Shelby, Kaylee, Kevin, and Nick were also really good.

2) I ADORED the Love Thy Neighbor scene. Love Thy Neighbor is kind of close to being my favourite song from the musical but this Love Thy Neighbor was definitely my favourite song from the movie. The mall setting was so good, using the space made it feel like a real production number, the Godspell kids, THE CHOREOGRAPHY, and of course the fountain finale. SO GOOD.

3) Honestly I thought the rest of the songs were up to par with their musical counterparts, and the two songs that were cut short honestly had me for the first half until I realised they weren’t the full song. The one song that didn’t strike my fancy was Zazz surprisingly, because I love Zazz. I think a bit of my problem is rooted in my second issue with the movie, but I think I explain it pretty well in my notes: not enough Gay Panic(tm) from Emma.

4) I really liked the lighting design! I think they were trying to go for a design that felt like a musical production on stage and I think they nailed it with the different coloured lights. I think Dance With You was so pretty despite it not being the full song.

5) Andrew Rannells.

6) The costumes were pretty good. They weren’t overly amazing but they definitely did their job of selling the character. Dee Dee was fabulously dressed as always.

Yeah I liked it. I’ll probably watch it again despite my problems with it (or should I say my PROM-blems with it haha). Expect some fanart for it too because I have shifted to Prom Mode.
