GOD the early seasons really fucking hit so damn hard man. like that scene in new beginnings where the kid gets reunited with his parents after like. 6 years apart bc he was kidnapped when he was 6. and the way he holds his hand out to shake theirs. ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING MOMENT ACTUALLY. like i cannot even IMAGINE the heartbreak and anger those parents are experiencing — not at the kid of course but at the man who took him, the man who STOLE all those years, all that time, almost all of the memories that little 6 year old did have of his parents. the way those parents know this kid and love this kid, but to that kid they're virtually strangers. ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING!!!!!

One of my favorite NPMD details is how every one (of the nerdy prudes, at least) actively is trying to protect Pete, like they took one look at this lanky, wet cat of a secondary protagonist and went 'I'm gonna keep that loser SAFE'

(Ex. The second Ruth and Richie think Steph set Pete up they are actively antagonistic toward her (even though they clearly are intimidated/idolize her as a concept), they get involved with the bullying max plan because he hurt Pete, which Richie straight up says / Steph is constantly putting herself between Pete and the Danger, to an even more extreme extent she goes along with Grace's plan SO she can hang out with Pete and to keep him safe / tbh Grace, objectively, ends up saving Pete's life A LOT both in NPMD ((and it's unrelated but also in Abstinence camp)) and it can kind of?? be argued part of the reason she gave up her chastity, a thing that she cherished SO MUCH THE LORDS IN BLACK ACCEPTED IT AS A SACRIFICE, was so Pete didn't need to get shot)
