Ruined Safety

Gods, you know a whump trope I'd love to see?

Whumpee joining a group or making friends after they’ve escaped or started healing from their trauma with whumper on their own.

Their friends have only ever known them as this happy-go-lucky, sarcastic jokester. Someone who always has a ridiculous quip or joke ready to break the tension. Whose someone people can rely on and open up with to talk about their issues without judgement. Except when they think on it, they don’t really know Whumpee that well. They know they’re nice, and that they can be a joker, but they don’t know anything about their past. Whumpee refuses to talk about it, deflecting with quips and sarcasm and jokes until the topic changes without anyone realizing the questions were never answered.

Whumpee has rebuilt themself from their trauma, they’ve already took the broken pieces of themself that were left after they escaped Whumper and put themself back together as someone new. It’s been years since they were with Whumper and they have no desire to even think about that part of their life again.

...until Whumper shows back up without warning to rip the safety and the life they’ve built for themself out from under them. Reminding them that Whumpee is still just their pet, their plaything in front of everybody they’ve come to care about and and shattering the fragile sense of safety they’d finally come to have. :)

It's even better if Whumpee was actually starting to get close to someone in the group more intimately, finally starting to feel safe enough to maybe let their walls down and be honest with them, just to have the agency of sharing their past and everything that happened to them ripped away by Whumper in one fell swoop as they're dragged away kicking and screaming in chains :) :) :)

thinking about beloved trope "take me instead"

That is such a classic and for good reason. It never gets old. It never gets boring. It never fails to give me whumperflies. And it needs to be used MORE. It's so good. Tv shows please use it more often okay!

There's so many fun ways to use this trope too. Like hostage situations is the first thing you think of right? Two characters, bad guys is gonna take one as a hostage, A stands in front of B and says "take me instead." Classic.

But there's also after the whumping. A pleading to a higher power to "take me instead". "Don't take them, take me. Let them live." Like when Danny was shot in Hawaii Five-0 finale and Steve was in the hospital chapel telling God that if he wanted to take someone then you take him. Not Danny. Me. SO good.

What about an instance where A sacrifices themselves in order to save B? Like Buffy sacrificing herself to save all of her friends in season 5 finale.

Or what about B is already gone and A pleads to swap places with them! Like Clint Barton in Avengers Infinity War when Nat sacrifices herself.

So many good ways to use this trope.

Ah, it's hard to pick a favorite! Here are a few that I really enjoyed:

Gallery AU (Keith and Shiro from VLD fanfic) by @trytofocus - Keith is a prisoner in a secret, highly prestigious gallery where subjects are displayed in all manners of artful bondage for the entertainment of rich patrons. Shiro is one such patron. And he isn't nice. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains adult elements and themes, and is NSFW) Why I love it: God, the mental images are SO GOOD. The way that Keith is treated as a living, breathing, unwilling art piece... the emotions, the way things are described, the care and reverence taken in tying him up and putting him on display, the way that Shiro appreciates him, the attitude that Keith gives... It's so freaking good, and it gives me crazy whumperflies. I wish there was more!

Death Valley (also on AO3) by @ashintheairlikesnow - In 2003, Finn Schneider left Germany for a month-long planned trip around the United States. Somewhere around Death Valley, he disappeared. But he wasn't alone. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains noncon, murder, and is NSFW) Why I love it: This was the second whump fic that I ever read, and it was integral in getting me into the whumpsphere! I feel SO SO SO bad for Finn, what he goes through, and how he is in his future. It's one of those stories that makes me go "OH NO BB LET ME FIX IT FOR YOU ;A;" but this poor guy has seen and been through far too much. It's brutal. Even the flash forward has me on the edge of my seat and only wanting the best for him. I hope this poor man finds love, joy, and peace.

Brother's Keeper by @darkthingshappen - Ben Adkins' life changes forever when his brother Jake fails to pay what is owed to some powerful men. Will he be able to survive his harrowing experience and return to his family? (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: Phew, this one is intense! It's one of those fics that made me go "OH DAMN." a lot. I actually had to read this one out of order a bit because (spoilers) thereʻs a recovery arc... followed by a recapture arc. I had to save some of the recovery arc to read when things got too tough and I needed some joy for the characters, because GEEZ. Poor Ben!! Poor Jake! Poor Andrei! Volkov and his guys are sick SOBs and just merciless. Itʻs so whumpy. I had to skip a chapter or two due to some of my own personal squicks, but other than that, if youʻre looking for some guys having a super bad time, this is a great fic for that!

King of The Road by @darkthingshappen - George and Danny find themselves in the hands of a very sick and twisted trucker. What will happen to them as his newest victims? (Be warned that this is fic 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: The trucker is horrible!! An absolutely evil vile terrible sick guy!!! I have to know what happens to George and Danny! Thereʻs not much of the fic yet, but Iʻm frothing at the mouth waiting for more. The brutality is so whumperiffic, and I already desperately want to save them, so you know things are on a good track!

Secrecy by @doomeddestination - A young spy is captured by a mysterious man known only as Shepard. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: Calico is such a great writer, and her dedication to her stories and characters is INSANE. This story was the first one of hers that I read, and it introduced me to Ander, who is another character that I simply wish to wrap in a blanket and give tea to and take care of forever. This poor guy just needs a break. Shepard is awful, and the suspense in the story is so great. Thereʻs a whole multitude of AUs and stories that contain these characters as well, so lots of stuff to check out! ... ... ... If Ander never gets to canonically see his mom again, I will riot in the streets. LET A GOOD THING HAPPEN TO HIM.

The Mountain Man by @darkthingshappen - A kidnapper has his sights on a hockey player and sets a plan into motion to get him into his clutches. Why I love it: Getting into the head of the whumper as he stalked and planed his capture was so cool. I loved the confusion and delirium that the hockey player showed, especially when things started to get scary. I think this story was meant to be a one-shot, but Iʻd gladly dig into more of it if it got continued!

Hazel's story by @starrywhump - A group of college students is kidnapped by a sadistic whumper who has no qualms about torturing them. Why I love it: This was the FIRST whump fic I ever found and read! I wouldnʻt be in the community now if not for this fic. I have no idea how I stumbled across it, but Iʻm so glad I did, because it introduced me to whump lingo, whump blogs, and this whole crazy world. I love the characters, the whumper is creepy and intimate, and some of what she does is just nasty and brutal. I donʻt know what happened to the author (the blog hasnʻt been updated in like three years), but I hope that theyʻre happy and doing well wherever they are. I love the fic, and would love to read more if they ever decided to continue!

There are so so so many other great fics out there, but these are just the few that come to mind off the top of my head! Any other fans of these stories out there? :O

CYOA Whump - Part 11

You chose: Yes! Father didn’t raise a quitter.

You're exhausted but you choose to push yourself even harder, squeezing your eyes closed. Controlling the winds is your birthright. You shouldn't have to struggle for it.

You can feel your whole body trembling. The pain has spread from your head through the rest of your body, a sensation like being prodded with thousands of needles. Under the roaring of wind you can hear yourself crying out.

"This has to stop, captain! He can't-"

"Silence, boy."

"But he-"

"I said shut it!"

You can't get enough air. It's like your magic is pulling the very breath from your lungs. You gasp and cough, the metalic taste getting stronger as you spit out blood.

Rough hands grab your face, tilting your head back. "Kid? Open your eyes."

You can't. Your eyelids are too heavy. An open palm slaps you across the cheek and even that doesn't bring you any closer to awareness.

"Alright. You're done. Stop it."

You can't do that either. You've opened the dam that holds your magic at bay too wide and you don't have the energy to close it again. You can feel your life force draining away...

When you wake up it's in small waves of realization. First, you're horizontal, not tied sitting up like you have been so far. There's a thin mattress under you and a blanket covering you. Your hands are cuffed together and resting on your stomach.

You pry your eyes open. The room is small and dark except for the soft orange light of a lantern. Sitting at your bedside is Onthyes.

He looks up, smiling when he sees you awake. "Thank the gods. I wasn't sure if you've make it. You've been out for a whole day and night."

You groan, your throat painfully dry.

"Here." Onthyes helps you sit up, and a clinking sound catches your attention. There's a length chain attached to your cuffs that reaches out and connects to a similar cuff around Onthyes's left wrist.

He holds a cup of water to your lips, letting you drink your fill before he gives you some bread and jerky. You're able to feed yourself with your bound hands, but the chain connecting you and Onthyes serves as a constant distraction.

"Why are we chained together?" you ask when you're finished eating.

"Captain doesn't want you unsupervised for even a second now that you aren't tied up. And he said I'd discourage any escape attempts, since my body would be too heavy for you to lug around if you decide to kill me."

You raise an eyebrow at him. "I could cut off your hand."

Onthyes winces. "Please don't do that."

You hum, not making any promises. You're not even sure you're capable of doing something like that, but he doesn't need to know that.

Ok ok ok. So. Soulmates feel each others pain, Vigcup, Viggo ten years older than Hiccup, Hiccup FtM, but doesn't get his first menstrual cycle till he's 15. You start feeling your soulmates pain after you've both turned 5. Viggo think, for ten years, he doesn't have a soulmate. But realizes once he's 15, he actually does have one. They are just younger than him. So, he's 25 when he suddenly feels horrible cramps. Hiccups first menstrual cycle is horrible. Hiccup puts it down to the fact that he didnt get it when he was 11-12. But later realizes he just get really bad cycles. So, Viggo sets his mind to his soulmate being female. And, during the first menstrual cycle, Hiccup has the fight with the red death. So while Hiccup didn't feel it when it happened, Viggo did. He suffered through the pain on cramps as well as the feeling of his foot burning and being ripped off. He was used to feeling pain that wasn't his. Hiccup was a very clumsy kid. But this was beyond anything he had felt before. And when he finally meet Hiccup, he realizes that his soulmate was born female. But would rather be male. And even though Hiccup is now 18 when they meet, he's still as clumsy as ever. He only realizes Hiccup is his soulmate when he gets hit by Ryker in front of him. Feeling the sting on his cheek as well. And just to be sure, he tells Ryker to do it again. Hiccup hasn't put it together yet. Not until Viggo falls into the volcano does he realize.

I wanna write this so bad now. Oh my god.

OH MY GOD. YES. Viggo telling Ryker to hit Hiccup to see if he himself feels it is kind of funny, but very in character. This whole concept is giving me whumperflies!

Good god, the volcano. Oh, Hiccup would be in so much fucking pain. It would be amazing.

I like these kinds of soulmate AUs because the whump potential is just too good.

Who Is Sorrow?

Hey! I'm the gracious host of this blog and I do hope that you've found some enjoyment out of anything I've created or shared. As always, I promise I don't bite very hard if you decide to ask anything :)

Background

I am 20 years old, pronouns She/Her, and I've been in the whump community since at least 2018 on tumblr. Although, I've been invested in men being traumatized and tormented for god knows how long. I always felt whumperflies whenever I saw a scene of someone restrained or begging, just being hurt in general. Even as far back as me watching Disney movies when I was younger. I just didn't know what the feeling was at the time. I always thought I was a little weird or maybe disturbed for feeling this way, but then I discovered Tumblr and the word Whump which just summed up everything for me. I still don't talk about Whump in my personal life yet, but I'm hoping that I get the courage to one day.

I'm also currently in college pursing a bachelors degree, which is why I have random periods of absences due to school work. I love to draw, always have. I'm still improving, but I do it for fun and it's one of my ways to give back to the whump community.

Unresolved misunderstandings

If you leave two characters with a misunderstanding and they never interact again, or when they do it's not the same because of the topic. I get so much anxiety and second hand embarrassment that I cringe myself out of reading the rest of the story.

So i’ve unofficially called the last 12 months/year “the year i watched supernatural” because honesty it’s just a better way to face the last 12 months. Anyway here’s my unrequested thoughts on supernatural. 

It helped heal my religious trauma lol. (also spoilers)

Things i LOVED

The sibling trope/dynamic from the first couple seasons. Whenever they put cosmic importance on siblings i ate that shit up. That’s so fun. 

The vessel sagas. See above but Michael possessing Dean to kill Lucifer who’s possessing Sam??? Fucking love it. That’s so great. Also trying to force (aka torture) sam to accept Lucifer? Fantastic. 

The canonical answer that ‘god likes Sam and Dean so he gives them stupid hero luck”. I love that. That they didn’t get flat tires or sick or whatever while he liked them because he was watching out for their lactose intolerant asses. 

The SCOOBY DOO EPISODE. ENOUGH SAID AMAZING I LOVE 

The yellowed eye man plot. I know it’s like the first one but GOD i love everything about that arc. Sam’s visions?? The episode where the demon transports a bunch of them to test them?? Hell yeah

All the possessions. They were so fun. 

ALL THE EXPERIMENTAL WEIRD EPISODES. Like when they’re just office coworkers?? When they go to our world? That’s so fucking fun. 

That one scene when Crowley tortures that one pizza delivery angel? Fuck those are the best whumperflies in visusal format for me. Hell yeah. 

Things i liked 

Cass teleporting so randomly. 

The idea that humans made ‘gods’ like the old gods because wanted something to worship. Nice i like that take. 

“Squirrel and Moose” as nicknames. 

Demon traps and the little tattoos that keep them from being possessed. Very visual symbols. Also the black eye blink. Iconic.

Bobby 

The bunker (not the men of letters… just the bunker) 

How they used the same motel set and just changed the wallpaper and the room divider. I missed the hotel rooms. 

Garth 

Sam’s health conscious streak 

Nick as lucifer was so fun to watch. I was genuinely a bit sad when lucifer was possessing someone else/died. 

The gate to heaven is in a children’s playground. That’s funny, it feels irreverent, love it. 

Prophets. I like the prophets. 

GHOSTFACERS 

Don’t kill me i think i liked the last episode 

Things i hated/didn’t like 

The steins. Oh my god i had to stop watching. God we understand. We got it. Please don’t spell it out like that it hurt to watch 

The men of letters as legacy. They should have just found the bunker and been like “this is mine now”. The men of letters as a thing? Meh okay fine. 

Rowena never fully grew on me. Her accent sounded so fake the entire time i was half expecting her to drop it one day and be like “oh it was for fun” 

Oz. God, just stick to the bible. 

The needless double casting. Specifically chuck being god. I like chuck as a prophet, i love that they fought god, but chuck being god? Stupid. Annoying. Damaged the plot of the show. Should have just cast another dude to play god. 

The parallel universes. Meh leave it 

The episode in the girls highschool where they made a supernatural play. I had to skip that episode too cringy 

Sam’s beard 

The Campbell family was DUMB. Dumb and made no sense. 

Cass in “the empty”.... Just… what. If felt rushed and wrong and maybe it didn’t even stick?? IDK just weird and bad. 

The mark of cain was tiring. Okay concept but tiring and non too interesting.  

Mary coming back. That was weird.

Overall more things i enjoyed than hated but that is because im a positive little son of a bitch. Anyway rating is like 8/10 if you know what you’re getting into.

Henry in The Time Traveler's Wife 1x06 trying to find a way to keep himself from time traveling but instead just making him lose even more control of his powers while in a drugged state

Obi-wan in the Kenobi series 1x04 when he's fading in and out of consciousness after being burned, even looking at that gifset still gives me whumperflies 🦋

And I'll give special mention to some books I read this year, Rabbits by Terry Miles (the POV character randomly passes out so many times and it's great) and then the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. Book 5 in particular (which you should read after book 6 if anyone's interested in reading the series) there were a couple spots where I dropped my e-reader in distress cause I really thought that was it for the main character, I thought it was done forever and the story was about to shift perspective to someone else and that made me feel so many strong emotions, which I really like in a book lol

Okay libido ≠ having sex. Feeling arousal ≠ having sex. You all need to realize you can be sex repulsed and still get horny and you can not want to have sex and still get aroused by things. You have no idea if that girl was feeling aroused from it, masochism usually give you endorphins when you feel pain which, you guessed it, is considered a form arousal. Doing kinky things ≠ those things ending in sex.

"You all"??  You mean, the actual practitioners of BDSM?  Which I'm guessing you're not?  I, and the other mature individuals in the community, know from first hand experience, that one can enjoy the feeling of certain types of pain without any sort of sexual arousal, which is what you're describing.  I don't care where you're coming from, and I don't care if you experience sexual arousal every time someone smacks you.  The same is not true for everyone.  It can depend on the person, the scene, and the partner.  It can depend on the day or the weather. 

I have engaged in many forms of impact play.  I have been tied and suspended, which contrary to belief, is not at all comfortable.  In fact it can be downright painful.  I can tell you that none of it made me horny. 

I know for a fact that the girl was not feeling aroused by it - this was stated. I was there, you were not. Endorphins are simply feel-good chemicals that boost happiness and reduce pain. They are produced by exercising, eating, massages, etc. These are not sexual arousal. If you are getting sexually aroused by the endorphins your body is producing during exercise and eating your sandwich, then you have specific sexual kinks. Endorphins can also be produced during sex, but they are not sex-specific. They do not need to make you feel sexually aroused.

Of course feeling sexually aroused does not have to end in sex. But if you are claiming that all people necessarily become sexually aroused during activities labeled as 'kink,' you're dead wrong. I'll quote painandconfusion's answer: "Kinks and hobbies and pleasure can absolutely overlap with sexual gratification, but don’t have to. Masochism and thrill-seeking isn’t at all dependent on sexual gratification or stimulation."

Do not pretend to know what other people do or do not feel. It is not your place.

Whumpmas In July 2022 Day 4: Media that gave you whumperflies

I have to say, the Stage Play adaptation of Storm Bringer was spot on for all those lovely whumperflies!  Chuuya - god he has such a good scream.  It sounds so raw and pained and twists the insides in all the right ways.  It’s all those particular whumpy hitches and hurt noises that bring it home, and they have to be the right ones.

The ease with which Verlaine is able to overwhelm him, his captivity and torture in that tank, the utter hurt and pain in his face, heck, the ease with which Adam just picks short Chuuya up and carts him around like so much luggage.

The pain and loss in his expression from the deaths of his friends.  The way his mouth twists and he looks up like he’s trying not to cry.  The moments where he’s surrounded by all the antagonists, simply unable to resist fate no matter how hard he tries.

STORM BRINGER IS SOOOO GOOOOOOOD.

This is from a ghost AU that I really don't remember writing. All I have in my notes is AU details - no actual fic. So this is a snippet newly written for this event 😄😄

Chuuya coughs and peers up through the haze. His Ability wasn't enough to move a gram of the wreckage, with his head so woozy. Face down in the basement of an abandoned, dilapidated house...nobody is going to miss him until the morning when he doesn't check in for work. He groans.

He coughs again and blinks. Is there a figure standing there across the room? Did someone actually live here? "H-hey," he chokes out. "Can I - cough - get a hand?" It turns and he spies long hair, a pale dress. A girl or woman? She approaches, her pace slow and measured. He blinks and his vision tilts, and she's halfway across the room already. He blinks again and she kneels down right in front of him. Her hands, slowly - quickly - reach up to cup his face, and he can finally get a good look at her in the dim light. The long pale hair, dusting the floor. Skin, white as bone. The eyes - milky white, a pallor the sickly shade of moonlight on a tombstone.

Chuuya screams.

Bungou Stray Dogs: Chuuya Wing Whump

@blackrosesandwhump Yesssssss Chuuya with wings, and it is painful.  😈😈😈

This is a reply to Black Rose’s post on Chimera Chronicles Part 13 and the potential upcoming noncon body modification of implanting wings into the poor poor whumpee who never did a thing to deserve it.....  I have a winged Chuuya AU in the works with a similar premise.  Here’s the scene where Chuuya’s wings finally grow (background - Chuuya was drugged, kidnapped, and returned without knowledge of anything that had been done to him):

Chuuya frowned, rolling his shoulders as he took a sip of wine.  The peculiar pain in his back had been bothering him all day.  

His breath hitched. The twinge near his shoulder blades pulled painfully, and he hunched over, wine glass clattering as he set it down hurriedly, leaning both hands on the coffee table.  He must have really done a number on…

“Aaaaah!”  A brief scream ripped out as pain knifed through his back.  Chuuya sank to his knees, back ramrod straight, short gasping breaths. “Wh-what the f-fuck...?”  He clutched the arm of the couch, leaning his shoulder against it.  “I-I’ve got to…” he inched along the side of the couch, eyes set on his cellphone resting on the bookshelf at the far wall, “call Ane-san…”  

Agony had him doubling over before he could move more than a foot, and he pressed his forehead into the floor, eyes wide, breath frozen.  Don’t move, don’t move…if I don’t move, it’ll go away…  After too long, the pain slowly trickled away and Chuuya let his breath leak out.  

Chuuya reached slowly, ever so slowly toward his cell.  Crack!  Snap! He felt something move, something inside him move, just behind his right shoulder blade. It jumped, like it was a foreign entity, and Chuuya whimpered.  His fingers trembled in his outstretched hand.  The loud crackling and popping made him sick to his stomach.  There was a painful pressure on the underside of his skin, a lump that he could feel when his skin shifted over it.  He swallowed and made an effort to inch closer to the bookshelf…

A vicious crunch tore through his senses as his skin was pierced.  Chuuya screamed.  Wet crackles and crunches, snaps and pops, drove him to the ground as his back exploded upwards.  Bones and wet muscle erupted, jerking and tugging his body.  His skin heaved and rippled, and more flesh tore, and Chuuya shrieked into the carpet, his knuckles white.  His back felt like it was cleaving in two.

Cruel fingers, large, long reaching, ripped into his muscles, into either side of his spine, and tore, tore, tore tissue and ligaments upward, tore across his shoulder blades and reached around the sides of his chest to steal his breath.

Loud squelches fell on deaf ears.  Wet, hot rain plattered down onto the back of Chuuya’s fist, and dripped down his cheek. He was sure he was losing his sanity. He heaved the contents of his stomach out only to scream shrilly with the next breath, as his body tore out of him, no sense or understanding of what was happening.

The appendages grew, hateful and bloodthirsty for Chuuya’s pain.  His face was wet, and his voice was rasping when the grisly sounds stopped, and the worst of the ripping and tearing was over.  There was an unnatural weight tugging at his back, two of them, independent of each other.  The muscles in his back pulled in odd places around his shoulder blades, and along the sides of his spine, and creeping down into his lower back and sides, supporting things large, and he felt how those large things responded in kind, desperately suppressing the impulse to twitch and flex them.  Chuuya lay there, paralyzed in terror.  Ravaged skin along his back burned.  Spots of hot warmth were soaking in next to his skin, and trickling down his side, dipping toward his stomach where he lay prone on the floor. His back felt crowded, like it had too much jammed in there, too many pieces, the bones rubbing against each other in unnatural ways, the muscles twisted and weird and not in place where they should be.  They stuck out of his back, and that was the worst, what he could only fathom as extra arms sticking out, out, out, bent and twisted and he could feel them.  They wanted to move, but Chuuya, he didn’t want to move them.  Bizarre sensory inputs, like he was holding large fans in the air, tugging and trembling…like hair, like strange fingers moving against his scalp only it was along his arms, but they weren’t arms –

Chuuya let out a sob. He pressed his forehead into the carpet, his eyes screwed shut, as he desperately wished that they weren’t there. Bizarre hopes flashed through his mind, disconnected from reality: if he didn’t move them, didn’t acknowledge the weight and presence, the limbs, they wouldn’t be there.  If he could just rewind the moment and go back to before he walked into his apartment, this wouldn’t have happened.  Chuuya lost track of how long he lay there, breathing heavily into the carpet pile. The gashes burning in his back had faded to dull twin throbs that pulsed with his heartbeat.  Every pulse seemed to resonate up the veins that stretched out of him.

He didn’t know how he did it, but eventually his phone was in his hand, and he was trying to navigate the menu through blurry vision and shaky fingers.  His thumbs fumbled and landed on dial.  The phone slipped out of his grasp and he slumped over it, breathing harshly as it rang.

“Chuuya, to what do I owe the pleasure?”  Kouyou’s voice cut through his fog.

Chuuya’s voice was hoarse.  “Ane-san…come quick.  Something’s wrong…”

I was working something in conjunction with a prompt from Angstember 2021: “Help will be here soon, I promise.” The whumper in this case is @strahlenderzynismus 's OC Amos, but could just as easily be your favorite BSD whumper XDDD

Contents: electrocution, shock collars, escape attempt

“Help will be here soon, I promise.” 

Chuuya gazed up with unfocused eyes, Dazai’s face swimming in his vision and mixing with the rain.  He lay gasping in a puddle, his muscles shot, fried from the unending bout of electricity, iron-handed punishment for being out of his invisible cage.  They still twitched from misfiring nerves and the pain that threaded them.  It had only stopped when Dazai had taken a tazer to the collar to overload and fry the system. 

“Can’t…can’t move.”  Chuuya’s voice was little more than a cough and mouthed words.

Rain pelted down on his face as he watched Dazai mill over him, seemingly uncertain of what to do, or where to place his hands.  He looked over his shoulder and shouted words, incoherent to Chuuya’s ears, to someone off in the distance.  Chuuya tried to focus on Dazai’s brown eyes – more words were spoken, Dazai’s mouth moved, and then Chuuya blinked and he was gone. 

No.  Chuuya struggled, tried to sit up, see where Dazai was going.  But none of his muscles cooperated.  Come back, Chuuya wanted to yell.  But the only thing past his lips was a pained whimper against the rough brick sidewalk.  He’ll come for me!  All he needed was a moment of opportunity, and then he – Amos – would find him again and take Chuuya away. 

The splashing of footsteps was all Chuuya could hear before he lost consciousness.

I’ve been asking myself that question for the past year, lol. The list has definitely been growing with the new tropes I’ve discovered. I’m probably going to list them when I remake my Masterlist, but I’ll use this to start figuring out the ones I like.

Kidnapping/ Held Captive:

This is what started me on my whump journey. I’ve always been obsessed with movies and stories that had scenarios that involved this.

Torture (physical and emotional):

Love interrogations with torture, even just unwarranted torture that leaves the Whumpee helpless and groveling. Making threats of torture and hearing them beg. Begging gives me hard whumperflies.

Giant/Tiny:

This one is recent. I’m starting to love the dynamic of a small whumpee being trapped and helpless against a large Whumpee. Like a cat and a mouse situation. Even caretaker having to be delicate with Whumpee.

Pet whump:

This one is new too, but I think it’s more because I like the side of it where Whumpee gets punished and wants to be forgiven by their master so badly. Or even a defiant Whumpee that doesn’t want a master at all but they better listen if they want to live. Im not too big on like the sexual pet side where they need to do intimate favors and that’s the entire dynamic. That’s not to say I don’t like a little nsfw if it’s written well 🤭.

Whumper turned Whumpee:

Omg when I tell you I eat this shit up, I’m not even kidding lmao. Just the satisfaction of knocking whumper off their pedestal and giving them a taste of their own medicine gives me whumperflies every time. Whether it’s a vengeful caretaker, whumpee, or outside party, someone needs to beat this shit out of that guy.

Wrong place wrong time, or right time?:

Not really a standard trope but I like scenarios where maybe whumpee is just doing a simple thing like grocery shopping or taking a walk down the street and whumper shows up and decides, “yeah, that’s mine now”. Just snatches whumpee simply for existing. Even if maybe whumper accidentally got Whumpee instead of their original target or was forced to take them because they witnessed something and now they actually like having them as a plaything.

Being held at weaponpoint:

Having a knife to your throat or a gun to your head. Maybe a freaking lightsaber that can cut your limbs off kind of thing. Anything that is a threat to your life and makes your adrenaline pump.

Immortal/ non-human whump:

Vampires, gods, hybrids, mythical beings. Whatever you can think of in this category. I love them being a whumpee. Having this perception that they’re invincible in their own realms. The strongest, baddest beings alive and yet a “lower being” has captured them and is breaking then down to nothing.

Multiple Whumpers:

I only sometimes like this. I have a problem with becoming biased towards one of the whumpers so when another one comes over, I’m like, yah no that’s not right. But if it’s written well and theres a dynamic where one whumper is way more sadistic and horrendous than the other. Then it makes it interesting to see Whumpee picking favorites.

These are definitely not all of them, just the ones that I could think of in my head right now. I think I definitely lean more towards the “hurt” side of whump. I’m only ever really heavy on the comfort if I feel bad. Like, I’m the one who wants to comfort the whumpee, not the caretaker in the story if that makes sense. Which is why I like to draw because then I can make the things that I want to do for characters come to life.
