Silver Snow has the worst Byleth cause they are the "lord" of that route. They have no goals, visions, or ideals of their own. Thus, they just do as their told with no second thoughts. And since they can't speak, Seteth is used to vocalize their thoughts as an awkward exposition bot.

Oof I know. Maybe the worst example of this is “Byleth’s” plan to take on Fort Merceus that Seteth... had to remind them of?? Like just have Seteth make the damn plan, or have Byleth ask him to go over it with the army! I do appreciate SS for some things (more exposure for Seteth and Flayn being the biggest thing), but my god it can be so awkward since Byleth has no lord to bounce off of. I’d say it’s less that they have no goals (since they do, they want to save Rhea and defeat Edelgard), but because they have so little of a base personality and because they aren’t allowed to like, actually talk very often, SS is just... not that fun to go through really, at least imo

So in this discord we were talking about a sothis!byleth au and I wrote a little bit about it (which is majorly Byleth being a dumbass tbh)

Byleth is the legitimate reincarnation of Sothis, therefore Sothis doesn't exist and Byleth is god now

It's not something Byleth figures out until he sacrifices his life for the sake of some noble little brat, and instead of the sweet release that is death greeting him, he finds himself in some...empty...black void? He's face to face with a stone throne, the only thing that appears to be in this desolate abyss aside from himself.

It calls his name, and beckons him ever so temptingly up the steps.

With nothing else to do here, Byleth tentatively makes his way towards it. Studying it, there doesn't seem to be any traps (although you can never be too careful), and whatever magic that would be laced within the stone, is docile. It's almost as if it welcomes him, and that is a new feeling for Byleth.

As soon as he sits down however...

Byleth finds himself...staring at the little noble again? And alive? What a strange thing...ah! No time to ponder, who knows how much time he has before she (or Byleth himself) is cut down by the bandit.

After that mess is resolved, two more noble brats join their little brigade, along with Jeralt (someone Byleth is elated to see, as he damn near drowned in an ocean of blue blood).

Huh, would ya look at that. It turns out these three actually are capable of normal teenager things, and now they're all subtlety (not really) showing off and desperately looking for his approval.

Ehhhhh, okay whatever the blue clad kid looks the most sophisticated and least stuck up we'll go with him.

And then another unfamiliar face comes into the scene and Byleth sincerely considers gutting himself, until it turns out Jeralt knows this strange man.

Wow dad, don't get too excited.

One thing leads to another apparently (don't look at Byleth for answers, he was too busy disassociating) and suddenly everyone is heading to Garreg Mach Monastery for...reasons?

Weren't they supposed to be getting their pay for this mission? Why are they going to a monastery? Why are they escorting these kids? Did they offer money?

immaculate is a title that has been long interpreted as an arrogant self-granted title, but i found the revelation that sothis likely bestowed that title upon rhea to be really exciting to think about. perfection and purity is a pretty unrealistically high expectation to set for someone who roams earth as a person. i’ve always interpreted that rhea’s perfectionistic as a result of her time spent with the church, but now i’m inclined to believe rhea’s always struggled with societal pressure to live up to her name and be perfect long before the genocide of the nabateans.

                          and i’m sure it wrecked her social skills.

by time we see rhea in game, she is said to be awfully distant and very intimidating. she’s always playing archbishop (a situation i have little sympathy for but a situation nevertheless). she expresses lamenting her inability to connect with people at their level, and i swear at some point she says that she wishes she could “just be rhea” which is funny because i’d bet that she’s never really just been “rhea the person” and doesn’t truly know who she is. 

she’s always just been expected to be immaculate... which makes giving her interests and skills (like brawl) that don’t traditionally line up with the standard for “pure” that we’d normally expect... to be super fun. my goal is to find ways to challenge her to discover who “rhea” is... and come to terms that rhea is very different from the archbishop, seiros, or the immaculate one. 🤔

so i’ve been thinking about how slept on the dimitri x flayn supports are. like… the azure moon main campaign doesn’t bother with the church’s nonsense but still allows for a canon timeline where dimitri can s-rank a dragon.

and i mean if he’s going to get hitched to one that means he’s going to have to have The Talk, and by that i don’t mean sex but rather the ‘your wife is a 1k year old saint who is from a race of dragon people who were massacred and their bones turned to weapons. so please take areadbhar out of the room it makes flayn uncomfortable to look at her uncle lugh’s shin bone. thank you.’

i can imagine seteth and rhea not being too stoked about flayn going into a metaphorical lion’s den of humans but softens up when dimitri doesn’t react negatively and seems to love flayn regardless. and it’s sweet that after so long the next generation of dragons are going to be the product of positive human/nabatean relations plus be future leaders and help the people again.

plus it gives a reason for rhea to leave zanado on occasion with her wife and see her great-nieces and great-nephews and seteth never has to worry bc who the fuck would try and kidnap the queen for her blood

The art for this old MMO I used to play, Trickster Online, is what actually inspired me to WANT to put effort into art more than just "doodles without thinking". It was the summer of 5th grade when I started to think like this, iirc.

My coloring/shading! Especially when I'm shading golden stuff (accessories)! I was gonna say my lineart, but considering I like how my lineless stuff turns out (even if it takes more work ghkgn) then yeah, gotta say shading's my strongest suit & something I tend to have a lotta fun with, especially when I use more unique brushes for shading.

I finished the church route the other day...so many feelings...also I decided before I started it I was going to marry seteth because,, I loev him,, but this was also my 1st time using the ashen wolves and I fell for balthus HARD and was wavering in my decision...but THEN...then I was battling and seteth fucking critted the death knight in front of me 😳😳😳👀👀👀👁💋👁 and I was like...oh my gods what was I thinking I am DEFINITELY marrying this dragon mans 😍😍😍 and I did.

God he's such a beast as a unit...im swooning...ahhh anyway I just started blue lions and I'm going to marry Felix but lord knows balthus is on my list...oh and I married my waifu shamir in verdant whatever. Love my crit queen. 💋

i said i was gonna do it, so here i am! i am writing this on the fly, making it up as i go along so who knows how long it will be! who knows. 

i have finally played every route in fe3h, including the dlc- currently im making my way through the new game+ and screaming because this is my life now apparently. this isn’t really a deep and meaningful essay just... my experience playing the game and all the routes. 

( pls note i played on casual and normal for my original playthrough because i am a wimp. for ng+ im still playing casual but this time im playing on hard. )

this is the order in which i played the routes + dlc: verdant wind, azure moon, cindered shadows, silver snow and crimson flower. 

right! so!! let’s start!

White Clouds: the first twelve chapters are obviously pretty same-y, which is fine, except when you’re playing 4 times in a row. i liked the fact that the goddess tower was unique for every route and character you were trying to get s support with. there were some unique aspects to the different house, ie. judith, arundel, rodrigue, finding out about dimitri and edelgard. but other than that i did get pretty bored when it came around to doing it... again. and idk just, like i said the reveals obviously weren’t as shocking the 4 time around but like, they were still enjoyable, which is good at least!

Verdant Wind: this route is... eh. it’s the first one i did because dear god i am in love with claude. the route in and of itself is probably one of the weakest ngl. there were things that didn’t make sense in the context of the route and unlike azure moon and crimson flower it didn’t feel unique (given that this route and silver snow are.... IDENTICAL. except the final bosses) the final boss was dope and i am obsessed with God Shattering Star, but other than that? meh. i liked it at first because it was my first one and yknow, claude. but now it’s just idk, it’s lacking. and i’m gonna be honest: i don’t like most of the class. i like claude, hilda, marianne and lysithea. that is it. the others are just overbearing or kinda boring. lorenz i just, i can’t get over his design, i know he’s a deep character but i dislike most of his c supports, i hate his hair and the way he talks. ignatz and raphael are forgettable. i know they’re also very deep characters but their surface levels make me not want to go into their characters. and just. fuck leonie, i’m sorry i just cannot handle her. she’s overbearing, annoying, thinks that because jeralt trained her she’s better than everyone??? GOD. her supports with hilda are cute, and i like her post-timeskip design but otherwise she’s one of my least favourite characters in the game. im sorry. (edit: okay im revising this because it was late at night and perhaps i was a bit harsh. i dont actually mind the characters i mentioned that much, in fact they can be quite funny, however, i still prefer characters from the other houses more.) so my verdict of this route is that i did enjoy it, i liked the cutscenes and the timeskip designs but it’s still only my second favourite. 8/10.

Azure Moon: look. i’m just saying, this route? is the best. hands down, it’s absolutely amazing. it has it’s flaws, and it’s very different from the other routes and is also very much the most fire emblem like route but that’s okay. this route is devastating, heartbreaking, really fucking sad. and that just draws me in. when i first did the route i was gonna marry mercedes because i am gay and love her but the character of dimitri is just so incredibly well done- before and after the timeskip. i like the fact that there’s essence behind his character, meaning. i actually found this route to be kinda hard in places (cornelia for example and also edelgard) and it’s also very unique. i like the way the two factions of faerghus and adrestia interact, and also the way the alliance is just dragged into it. ( claude doesn’t die which is good!!!!) in the other routes you only really see dimitri as this crazed character but in azure moon you find out WHY and yes, that is good. the characters are all very unique and i like them all they all have their own stories and characteristics that make them as unique at the route. the cutscenes and stills are, beautifully done and truly heartbreaking. and just. AH. i adore this route more than i have any right to, on the whole it’s my favourite. 10/10.

Cindered Shadows: this isn’t really a route, but that’s okay, im sure you guys don’t mind. i love the ashen wolves, they’re amazing. the story is... weak. because it doesn’t fit into the actual plot at all and that annoys me. aelfric is a character i dislike immensely but maybe that was the point? i find the explanations in the route to be its downfall, because it clashes with what we already know in the game. sitri is pretty and im glad we get a tiny bit more byleth and sitri backstory but otherwise the characters and abyss are it’s saving grace. 6/10.

Silver Snow: im gonna go ahead and say it: fuck this route. it’s verdant wind but with seteth instead of claude. it’s verdant wind but bad and boring. it’s dull and unnecessary. i had really high hopes for this route because it’s the church! i dont like the church but a route with them could be very interesting! it was not! it lacked personality, it lacked uniqueness. i don’t particularly like most of the characters and basically just used the students and fuuuuuck the final boss. the only reason i did this route was because i wanted to romance yuri but also edelgard.  2/10 would not play again.

Crimson Flower: ... ... ... WHERE ARE THE CUTSCENES!!!! where is the reunion scene between byleth and edelgard, why is it all stills!!!!!! WHY IS IT SHORTER THAN THE OTHERS!!!! WHY. the story in this route is actually very interesting, and well thought out. but the aforementioned points are what make me want to ram my head into a wall. idk why they thought to give silver snow cutscenes and not this route but it was stupid. i do like the way the portrayed the church and rhea though. as the villains they technically are. i like the characters a lot, they’re all great, and i love the angst!!! the way you get to choose if you want to spare or kill your children whom you love. ( i spared claude and lysithea because i am weak. ) but its just. the vibe of the route is ruined by the lack of cutscenes and thats dumb ik but it is what it is. and also it did NOT need to be shorter, there was no reason for it to be as short as it was. 5/10.

I will start of by saying that I don’t think that Byleth would be a traditional manakete? I kinda see what happens to her as similar with what happens with Corrin in Fates, like she’s just a literal ass dragon - altho it wouldn’t be immediate

It would probably start with physical features; pointed ears, fangs, sharper nails developing over time, her senses all becoming sharper to the point where they can overwhelm her(slit pupils, maybe?). 

Then behavioral things, like craving meat more often, napping in direct sunlight, wandering to high places(occasionally ending up on the roof of the cathedral with no real memory of how she ended up there), becoming more aggressive without really realizing it

then things like how animals behave around her. Cats still love her(obv) but its a flip of a coin how mounts react to her. Pegasi and horses becoming incredibly skittish to the point of running away from her, and wyverns vying for her and becoming violently territorial in equal measure. The dogs of the monastery start avoiding her, but for some reason she attracts birds now?

And really, she probably wouldn’t know who to tell. Most likely, she’d chalk it up to her fusion with Sothis(which it is) and go to Seteth about it, since he knows about this Sothis junk. She wouldn’t go to Rhea as she 1) doesn’t really trust the woman, especially after reading Jeralt’s diary and then especially after the Holy Tomb, or 2) its after the timeskip, when Rhea’s in imperial custody(or the enemy, if this is CF) and she just can’t go to her even if she wanted to(which again she doesn’t, because she doesn’t trust her).

By the time her trust in Rhea is ever restored enough that she would consider telling her, she would have already gone to Seteth.

She’d definitely also tell Claude/Dimitri/Edelgard depending on the route(oh my god tho can u imagine in Azure Moon? “u think ur a monster, but im the one literally turning into a lizard here”)

I hc Byleth to be nb and bi (for this i will use they/them) as well as being a very quiet, softspoken/rarely speaks individual who doesn't interact with others often and doesn't have a good sense of communication skills

I hc Claude to be Bisexual and a very physical contact person (hugs, hand holding, having some sort of physical contact) and a bit of a romancer if he can

Byleth's ideal date would be going out for tea or spending a night looking at the stars or reading. It doesn't take much to please them (and they don't know what else to do because they enjoy those things)

Claude is down for any type of dates, and adores it when Byleth takes the reins and choses what they do bc Claude knows that he'll enjoy it nonetheless

As much as Claude wants to hold and kiss Byleth, he is completely aware that they aren't quite ready for that level of affection yet (at least the one he wants to give) so he is v patient with Byleth and will go as slow as they want him to

First time Byleth made the first move and initiated something, Claude was over the moon

After the skip and they are reunited, the two are never seen apart, they always ate their meals together, trained together, and even rested together. Everyone knew that they were meant to be

They both pop the question after defeating nemesis and having a grand celebration. Both saying yes and both making promises to rebuild their homes and to strive for a better future

When Claude becomes King and Byleth Archbishop, they still keep in contact and have regular meetings as countries. It isn't until both countries are fully rebuilt and stable that they get married and peacefully unify their nations

They adopt children together and even have surrogates, Claude wanting to have a large family and Byleth wanting to support Claude's wishes

There are times when Byleth wants to be alone with their thoughts, and disappear for days to do so. Its been said that they are contacting the goddess but in actually Byleth is just...sleeping

I also hc that....Byleth is immortal and outlives Claude.

But i want to believe that Byleth would offer their blood to Claude to make him live longer so they can be together until the end of time

Immortality is lonely, Seteth comments one day, but it's worth it spending it with those you love. For Seteth its Flayn, first and foremost

echoes: mmmmmm ok i’ve gotta think. berkut and rinea are probably tied for my favorite (i have. a very extensive modern day au where they get to be happy and also alm gets to be friends with berkut. don’t @ me). as far as least favorites...uhhh i dunno i didn’t really like faye very much.

fates: HHHHH WOW I’VE GOTTA CHOOSE HUH. i’m just gonna go with birthright characters for now cause i know them the most. azama is a bastard and i cherish him but i also have to consider my horrible fail son whom i love (dwyer)!! orochi is so good too....least favorite is probably rhajat since she kinda creeps me out...

IM REALLY GONNA HAVE TO THINK. i mean seteth is attractive and a good character but i don’t know if he’s actually necessarily my favorite. just on sheer merit, sylvain is one of the most well developed and interesting characters i’ve ever seen in a video game. but as far as likability i dunno! i’d probably have to go with the power couple of claude and hilda! least fave is for sure lorenz though. his vibes are simply too rancid for me
