‘ soulmates aren’t rare , they aren’t ’ - Kim Shin, canon, very pointedly insinuating he means Saja is also his soulma-
@mythvoiced ♚ from x.
♔ -----------
   It’s one of those days where, for once, there’s peace. As in, Goblin and Reaper aren’t loudly arguing over trivial things, nor are items floating about for the sake of showing off powers. Must be because the content on TV is distracting enough to keep them quiet, like reckless children who are put to ease when their favorite cartoon is on. Reaper’s sitting on one edge of the sofa, whilst sensing Kim Shin sitting on the opposite border.
   Since Reaper was the first to sit down, he’s supposed to be the one choosing what to watch --- of course, opting for a drama despite Goblin’s initial and usual disagreement. He even finds it rare, that after all this time sitting there, his companion hasn’t changed the channel with his abilities. Oh, well, he’ll relish in that for as long as he can.
   With a hand cupping his cheek and an elbow propped upon sofa’s armrest, Reaper watches a scene unfold. There’s two friends talking in a coffee shop; one trying to comfort the other as they seem to speak about the disappointment in finding a person who truly understands them. The topic of soulmates barges in as well; the dialogue being oddly familiar in Reaper’s ears --- maybe he’s heard this in another show before?
“Soulmates are so rare to find. I don’t think I’ll ever find my own.”
  The line echoes through the television, it’s said by the guy with a tight frown and a pout on his lips. As soon as such a thing is said, though, Reaper catches Kim Shin’s words and he sounds...offended? When he turns to look at Goblin, he’s initially startled, for he expected his companion to be staring at the television...not at him. Reaper clears his throat; purposely leaning in as if to see if Goblin’s gaze will follow.
Tumblr media
  “That’s easy for you to say. You’re bound to a bride you recently found.”
  As for him, well...does he even have the right to have one? Can he even have one? Isn’t he destined to fulfill a purpose so he can finish his punishment and continue onto the next life? Shouldn’t he forget about the people he’s grown close to? Fellow reapers who share a similar confusion, Sunny; the man who’s sitting right by his side? Ah, he’ll pretend to have headaches when it comes to thinking too much about a perspective that’s undeniably human. Now, he’s mildly forgotten about the show he was watching, somewhat focused more on staring at Goblin. He blinks, even tilting his head to a side. The lonely guardian, not so lonely anymore --- not right now, not in this specific time of his life, at least.
  He has Deok Hwa, he has the omitted one, he has...he has him. He has him.
  Reaper might be too stubborn to admit, especially when wishing to playfully wound Goblin’s pride, but he’s really grown fond of the ancient being. Kim Shin’s not only become a friend but so much more; a closeness he can’t describe fully. It’s as if they’re united by a thread which keeps them tightly knitted together.
 “Or...”
  Cue Reaper dramatically sliding toward Goblin; a sudden gaze of pleading in his eyes, as if resembling a puppy. Here he goes again, on his attempt to make him amusingly uncomfortable.
 “Are we soulmates? Is this why we keep meeting? Is this why you haven’t kicked me out?”
  Now, he’s trying to reach out for his hand, knowing that’ll scare him a little, considering what Reaper’s touch can do. But then, instead of grasping his palm, he goes ahead to flick his nose.
 “You’re too dramatic sometimes. No, all the time. Maybe we shouldn’t let you watch too many dramas and just put those music groups you like so much.”

Goblin Recap Time!!!
We watched episode 2 of Goblin this weekend and it was great, but then I got really busy, and haven’t got around to talking about it, so let’s do this. Hopefully, I can still remember most of what happened. This show is A LOT!
What happened this time:
First and foremost, remember last time, when I predicted that the Kim Shin - Wang Yeo roomies sitch was gonna be off the chain? I am pleased to report that it was, in fact, way, way off the chain. But I am ahead of myself.
So, Eun-Tak and Kim Shin had a nice time in Canada. We learned some things: - Kim Shin has spent a lot of time in Canada and has a whole bunch of dead servants whose graves he likes to visit. Also he has a fake grave for himself. - Because Being Immortal + Real Estate Speculation = $$$, Kim Shin is loaded. - Ghosts are scarier when they speak to you in English.
Also, Eun-Tak brought home a tourism brochure and a maple leaf, these might be somewhat important later?
Eun-Tak finally got a part time job! She finds this chicken restaurant run by a beautiful, extremely bored woman named Sunny. The restaurant has no customers, for no explicable reason. My husband and I are both obsessed with Sunny. She seems like the sort of person who would normally have just huge dick energy, but she’s sort of down on her luck right now. She eats a lot of snacks. At some point, she goes to a fortune teller, who tells her, “Beware of a man in a black hat,” and Sunny replies something along the lines of “Is he hot?” and Wang Yeo is in so, so much trouble.
At some point, Wang Yeo finds Eun-Tak again, and since he has his paperwork in order now, tries to drag her off to be dead again. Kim Shin rolls in and there’s this really cute part where Eun-Tak tries to protect him from Wang Yeo, and he’s like “relax, I know this jerk.” He tells Wang Yeo that he can’t take Eun-Tak because she’s the Goblin Bride, and if she dies, Wang Yeo will lose his chance to take Kim Shin himself. Wang Yeo (apparently) buys this, and bounces. Eun-Tak then yells at Kim Shin for lying to her about him being a Goblin and her being the Goblin Bride and he replies that she’s not the Goblin Bride, he just lied to protect her. It’s sort of been built up that he really believes she’s not because she can’t see his sword (which sticks out of him, but the show thankfully doesn’t show it most of the time). Unsurprisingly, Eun-Tak is really upset about this.
Later on, at home, Wang Yeo and Kim Shin talk it over at home, and Wang Yeo’s like, “maybe she just can’t see the sword yet”, like, good question, dude. How does anyone involved know how this works? Kim Shin didn’t exactly get a copy of The Handbook for the Recently Deceased when he croaked.
After this, Eun-Tak runs away from home so that Wang Yeo can’t find her (he hates it when people move), which causes her aunt to panic. Apparently, the aunt owes some mob-type guys some money, and she’s trying to scam Eun-Tak out of her insurance money, but she can’t find Eun-Tak’s bank book. Eun-Tak has said repeatedly that she doesn’t have it, and it’s slightly ambiguous as to if she does, but it’s implied that Goddess of Children/Old Grocery Lady (who is now young and hot) is involved. Speaking of her, she gave Eun-Tak some Cursed Spinach this episode. Just keeping her hand in, I guess.
Eun-Tak is actually sleeping at the chicken restaurant. Auntie shows up to try and find her, and Sunny destroys her with word play and trickery. Unfortunately, she just sends the mob guys after Eun-Tak directly. They basically kidnap her, and they’re driving around when all the street lights start going out and OH SHIT Kim Shin and Wang Yeo have TEAMED UP to come save her, I AM LOSING IT, I love it when rivals (are they rivals? I can’t even) team up. Anyway, the episode ends here.
Thoughts:
Last time, I was a bit ‘meh’ on Kim Shin. He was too cool and kind of a dick. Well, I am pleased to report that the man has revealed himself to be an absolute disaster and I now ::heart:: him. There is this extended scene of him trying to decide what to wear and what object to pose with the next time Eun-Tak summons him, and he keeps trying to get Wang Yeo’s opinion while Wang Yeo is trying to sleep, and it’s stupendous. For half the episode, he’s wearing a knee-length cardigan over a turtleneck jumpsuit. Oh, and when he’s sad, it starts raining, and Deok Hwa had all these dehumidifiers set up around him. But the ultimate Kim-Shin-Is-A-Disaster-Moment is this: Deok Hwa reveals that he’s known that Kim Shin is a Goblin since he was a kid. “How did you know?” Kim Shin asks. “You used to get drunk and offer me gold,” Deok Hwa explains, and then there’s a flashback of drunk Kim Shin offering Young Deok Hwa some gold bars and my soul left my body.
Wang Yeo is so perfect. He has incredible FML energy, as he hangs around the house, drinking his juice, putting up with Kim Shin’s bullshit, defending the honor of his hat. He meets up with a co-worker at some point and they complain about paperwork. We also find out that Grim Reapers get paid by the money people leave on altars, which is apparently, not a whole lot in terms of maintaining a modern lifestyle. I love this. I love all of this. I love him. Wang Yeo and Kim Shin keep getting in fights where they magically throw stuff at each other while they’re trying to eat. Kim Shin keeps putting a frilly nightcap on Wang Yeo. Wang Yeo sings a song about Kim Shin’s underwear.
Oh, I almost forgot! There’s a part where Wang Yeo takes a husband and wife who have died in a car wreck, and it turns out the husband is the guy who hit-and-runned Eun-Tak’s mom. Wang Yeo gives the wife the forgetfulness tea, but denies it to the husband, saying his hell is that he’s cursed to wander the earth, remembering what he has done. YOU ARE METAL AS HELL, WANG YEO.
At some point, Eun-Tak decides to ask a ghost why all the ghosts think she’s the Goblin Bride. Apparently, another ghost witnessed Kim Shin saving her mom and is huge gossip. So there are all these ghosts gathered around, telling Eun-Tak this story, and in the middle, one of the ghosts starts trying to drag Eun-Tak to her death, Ringu -style, and the other ghosts are holding her back, like, “Oh God, why are you always like this?” and it was perfect.
How are there zero Goblin x Bleach crossover fics on Ao3? Is it so much to ask for one little fic of Eun-Tak and Ichigo eating ice cream and complaining about how terrible ghosts and other supernatural beings are?
This show is real good.
Remember when I said that I was worried my husband wasn’t gonna be into this? At some point, he turns to me and says, “so, I was reading this post on /r/kdrama, and...” I am done worrying.

Goblin and Grim Reaper comments
Dumping all my past ramblings for Shin x Yeo for future ref heh I rambled so much tbh
I mourn for all those ideas that will never come to fruition through drawings or writing. Anyway, hope you enjoy all these write ups/ analyses. Long post is long. None of these pics are mine ofc, if u edited them, lemme know and I’l remove it!
Not organised in any particular manner, use the photos as reference.
Tumblr media
"Please, kill me." "Kill you?" -Ep 13 Yeo felt so guilty he thought it was fitting for Shin to take revenge by killing him. As God's sick joke, Kim Shin cannot do even that, kill Wang Yeo. Something he has given thought to for 939 years of his life. In a world where Wang Yeo didn't betray Kim Shin as he did, perhaps there could have been a happier ending.
Tumblr media
"We all loved you." -Kim Shin EP 13 Want to add a poem by Langston Hughes:
I loved my friend.
He went away from me.
There's nothing more to say.
The poem ends, softly as it began.
I loved my friend."
Kim Shin trusted Yeo, enough to share with him his laughter and heartache. Shin told Yeo of the most painful betrayal he had felt in his life time, of Wang Yeo's betrayal. Enough to share how the punishment dealt out by God was wearing him down, god who "thought too highly of him". But Yeo is at the epicenter of both Shin's relief, joy and pain. Their relationship shattered and it hurts them both.
In the end, they do piece things back. Because they've shared so much of each other with each other. When Yeo does leave, there's something off about the goblin home. Something not even Eun Tak or Deok Hwa's absence could cause. Because Yeo became Shin's home, the one to return to, to share his sorrows and joys with, his punishment and his relief. Unfortunately, the pillars of a temple stand apart.
Tumblr media
"It's nice, having someone to welcome me home."- Kim Shin ep15 Kim Shin was losing all hope of returning to anyone he knew. Even the Yoo family that has been with him all his life. Even that was thought to be lost to him. He was likely regretting on returning, what hope is there left for him? His friends and family, all mortals with lives of their own. His presence in theirs would only bring ruin to them. He is a burden to everyone alive. Always has been. When he finds out Yeo remembers, it gives him so much hope that things will return to the way they were before. So much so that he's willing to try connecting with Eun Tak, Deok Hwa and Sunny again, even knowing they would inevitably cause heartache. Maybe Yeo remembering him was just enough for him to say "Even if I don't have them, I still have you." And that friendship, love, support, was more than enough for him to aspire actually living in society again.
Tumblr media
"Our souls were made from the same materials, carved by the same heartache." Quote from a friend. Now I'm imagining them as tragic soulmates, fated to meet again and again despite the painful past. They were fortunate to have resolved it in their present lives as goblin and grim reaper.
Tumblr media
Back when everything seemed normal and fairly peaceful (in their terms). Do you think Shin thinks back on moments like this? The times he had meals where he wasn't alone for once? How much would he miss Yeo, for the little things he brought to the mansion. When Deok Hwa leaves and he's left with another Yoo servant who has little time for an immortal goblin, how much would he miss Yeo and everyone else?
Tumblr media
Imagine if you had a heart to heart with the person who caused all your pain. Would you still love them? Would they be allowed to love you back? Their irrational answer is yes, they still love each other even after all that. As sad and messy as things are they can't help but spin a tale of sad love.
Tumblr media
Yeo acting as king for the final time, Shin acting as general for the last time. The supposed final farewell. The closing of the door to the past. Supposed closure for any future between them too. As Yeo tips his head in honour of his general's late service, he tells himself that this will be their goodbye. They end it, whatever it was they had before this, on equal grounds. Defeating the eunuch by reuniting one last time, neither expected to ever reunite again. Because rationally, this was supposed to be their last and bitter departure from each other. It is not sweet nor is it bitter. Finally a chapter in both their lives closed. There is not meant to be more. But they were once human and humans make choices and give answers to god's questions. 9 years later, Shin comes home to Yeo waiting for him with arm wide open, strings of apologies and Shin nods, he knows. They loved each other so much from this short meeting as Goblin and Grim Reaper, it surmounted the pain and suffering of a bloody past. They replied God, who thought what was was mercy, that they wanted to go home. Their home is found in each other and they found it in the end.
Tumblr media
Jokes aside,these two missed each other so much. Shin, listening to Yeo's voice, one that he knows, trusts and has come to love. Disbelief, heartache, disappointment, all these complicated feelings towards Yeo but still, he picks up the call and listens. Because he loves him so much he cannot withold himself from picking it up. Because the clearest thing he's feeling from the jumble of emotions is that he misses Yeo.
Meanwhile Yeo straightened when he realised who was on the line. To just hear Shin breathe through the phone speakers must have hurt. How much Yeo wishes the past had not been so. How greatly he wishes he wasn't the foolish king that ruined his best friend. He deserves nothing but silence from Shin. But he will grasp for even the soft whisper of the goblin's breath by his ear. This quiet reunion is tinged with so much longing it almost physically hurts. It hurts so much neither can speak. But it also means neither are willing to end the call, grasping at the wisps of each others' presence.
Tumblr media
When I think about my shipping Shin and Yeo together as objectively as possible, I wonder about this: Yeo is the cause of all of Shin's present problems, his hurt, his curse, his goblinhood. Shin gave his love and loyalty to the crown but received years of torment for it. Why then should these two still be together?? Maybe it's because, though late, Yeo has this chance of atoning himself, to give his love to Shin where he had failed as a young king. It's 900 years later that he learns what love actually is, and finally gets to give it as a Reaper. Manipulated by the eunuch, Yeo had no idea who was in his side. Though this doesn't excuse his actions as an executor, it does tell us he had no idea what he was manipulated into sacrificing. As a grim reaper, he learns and he does his best to atone for it, because this Reaper is free of any form of manipulation. We see the true king that could have been.
Shin's anger is warranted, definitely. In fact it's almost unreal that he still has enough heart to grace Yeo with his forgiveness. That's how emphathetic he is as a character. Though unhealthy, he forgets himself as deserving of care and love. In many ways, he is the self destructive/oversacrificial opposite of king Yeo whom only thought of himself. Neither positions are good. But as Goblin and grim reaper they became dependent on each other, not just for fun bickering, but also support and love. Yeo can return the love he had no chance to give, shin can receive the love he has never accepted for himself. Their relationship stemmed from a seed of hatred and bloodshed, but bloomed because that is not all there is between them.
They have been through enough, and deserve a soft epilogue.
Tumblr media
First he was loved with the loyalty of a general on oath to a young king. Second, he was loved as a friend that made a house a home filled to the brim with life from their bickering. Third, they fell in love, a 939 year old enemy, a friendship of one year more comforting than all the people they've met this far. Against the odds, they chose to love each other, one by apologising and another by forgiving. Love is both fate and choice for them, who came full circle, despite the irrationality of their resolution. They love each other, in every spectrum of love that exists. It is indeed a sad love, but it is their choice. Because no sadness lasts forever, no happiness lasts forever. You are obligated to live and be happy with the love you have been given. ---- In which every Goblin quote matches their storyline and I cry because of how canonically complex and intertwined they are .
More write ups along the same lines:
Shin loved Yeo as his king in the past, it was a relationship that was built from a sense of duty. These words uttered in 2016 however, now hold both his new love for Wang Yeo the grim reaper and the disappointment towards Wang Yeo the king. His love for the grim reaper from the present battles with a 939 year old disappointment, anger and thirst for revenge (mostly disappointment because referring to Shin's sense of duty, he was already willing to die for Yeo). And do you know what happens? Love wins. Shin forgives him, accepts Yeo's apology. Yeo now learns that he should return the love he was given and Shin, who has always been selfless, learns to receive it. Idk what sort of friendship constitutes of this level of dependency, to be willing to forgive your family's killer and the cause of your immortal punishment. Even Sunny could not forgive Yeo in this lifetime. Similar to Eun Tak but knowingly (Eun Tak could not fathom the pain immortality brought) pleading for Shin to stay alive. Yeo, the cause of Shin's curse, the listening ear that comforted him in their time together, chose differently in this lifetime, he chose to care for another being. "I don't want you to die" is so significant when the entirety of their backstory is revealed. Even after all the pain and suffering, I don't want you to die. Because love is an irrational choice, and their choice is a sad love.
Tumblr media
YOU GOT TO HIM IN THIS LIFETIME. I'm going to cry Kim Eun Sook had to cut up onions by making Yeo listen to all of Shin's heartache, most of which was caused by his foolish king self (that he regrets so much). They were given the opportunity as Goblin and Grim Reaper to make up past animosity, to apologise and forgive. You want first love??? Well this one took 948 years to finally manifest. Godamnit
Tumblr media
These two had not ONE but TWO goodbyes together. (Three of you count Goryeo). Let's be honest, this goodbye was so fucked up. (Pardon the language BUT IT IS) Shin, saying goodbye to one of the few people he thought would stay with him for as long as he lived. Yeo, telling him to not make it rain, to be happy. These two have gone through so much together, they care for each other so much that when it is time for them to part, they wish each other the best. Shin loves Yeo and Yeo loves Shin. This is fact. In whatever spectrum of love that exists, it is undeniable that they cared for one another. Enough to conquer the grudges formed in the past 948 years ago (the 9 years Shin was in limbo taken into account). Tell me, a love that blossomed in a year versus a near millennia of hatred, pain and loneliness.
What wins?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you reached here, I congratulate you. All this is the result of about several months of babbling. I’m awfully sad this ship didn’t explode as I’d have loved to see. Though it may sound like I bash on the series a lot (which I admit i do lmao), i do love it for the range of emotions it put me through (and the friends I made in the process of all the screaming!)
:’) Goblin will always be thought fondly in my mind.
Souls
“Humans have four lives: a life of planting seeds, a life of watering the seeds, a life of harvesting and a life of cherishing the harvests”
Done with my 2nd K Drama :)
I watched Goblin: The great and lonely god and I already feel like it is one of the best (if not the best) K Drama ever. Everything in it is perfect — from the screenplay, cinematography, acting, musical score….everything!
I’m not really fond of fantasy genre but Goblin changed my mind. I really love the way the story unfold and each episode had me on the edge of my seat. I guess this is the first ever TV series that made me laugh a lot and at the same time cry a lot. Goblin, for me, is more than just a TV show as it left me life lessons I didn’t expect to learn when I decided to watch it.
Anyway, let me just tell you what Goblin is all about:
The story is all about a General from the Goryeo era, Kim Shin, who became a dokkaebi (immortal goblin) as a punishment; a sword was pierced on his chest and the only way for his immortality to end is for his bride to remove the sword from his chest. He also became a protector of souls however he is not allowed to meddle with the life and death of mortals. For almost 900 years, he lives his life trying to find the bride who can end his curse. One night, he decided to meddle with the mortal’s life by granting the wish of a dying pregnant woman, allowing her and her baby to be given another chance at life. Because of what he did, the baby was marked to become the Goblin’s bride. Years later, that baby grew up to be a bubbly person despite the hardships in life; she’s Ji Eun Tak. She can also see ghosts and talk to them. On her 19th birthday, she summoned the Goblin and from then on he became her guardian. Deok Hwa, goblin’s ‘nephew’ decided to rent out a room from the Goblin’s mansion to a guy whom later was known as Grim Reaper. That Grim Reaper has no memory of his past life. Also, he was the grim reaper who was supposed to pick up Eun Tak and her mother if the Goblin didn’t meddle. Since Eun Tak is considered a missing soul, she has to do her purpose, ending the Goblin’s immortality, because otherwise, she has to die. As days passed by, the Goblin started to have feelings for her; the Grim Reaper and Eun Tak also developed a friendship. Goblin and Grim Reaper works side by side in order to keep her alive. But as days passed by and Eun Tak still has not served her purpose as the Goblin’s bride, death will keep on coming her way.
I don’t know if I’ve summarized the plot properly (I don’t want to give way too many details because I don’t want to spoil the people who would read this blog post and haven’t watched the Goblin yet) but that’s basically what this K Drama is all about. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I considered this drama as perfect because all the elements are great and were perfectly combined together. Screenplay’s the best! The cinematography is really beautiful. It matches each scene perfectly. Sometimes I feel like I’m looking at beautiful moving paintings while watching the show. The acting’s superb; the cast gave life to their characters perfectly. The musical scoring too was amazing! Each songs used perfectly describe the emotions of each scene (My personal favorites are Heaven, I will go to you like the first snow, Stay with me, I miss you and Beautiful. I can’t even choose one!) Goblin really is one of the best K Dramas out there and I will never get tired of watching it again and again.
What I would like to discuss more in this blog post though is how I can relate to each of the main characters whom I considered as wandering souls, like me.
Goblin/Dokkaebi/Kim Shin. This would be sad though. I can relate to him because he spent most years of his life fighting. During his mortal life, he’s a great general of the Goryeo era that’s basically who he is his entire mortal life. He keeps on fighting. In this life that I have, I also keep on fighting like Kim shin however, what I’m fighting for is my chance at happiness and unlike Kim Shin I’m always the loser. I’ve never won a war. His immortal life began and this time it’s not about fighting anymore, it’s about searching. As a Goblin, he considered his immortality a curse since when all the people he cares has passed, he will be left alone and such process will just keep on repeating. He keeps on searching for the bride that would be the answer to his lifelong agony. Like him, I’m also at this certain point in life where I’m searching for answers. I’m searching for my purpose in this world (that is if I even have one). I’m also searching for that something (or even someone) that would help me end my misery.
Grim Reaper. I’ve been thinking how I can relate to this guy considering that we basically are different. Unlike with other characters when it is easier to point out how I can relate, with Grim Reaper I had a hard time but I know that it’s with him that I can feel comfortable being sad. But I guess our common denominator is that we’re both oblivious to the cause of our suffering. Grim Reapers are amnesiac; they have no memory of their past lives as a form of punishment yet they have to live as a “human” – they need to have a house, they need an identity (they have to make up, of course) and they need to eat. However, when he met Sunny, he just felt some kind of pain in his heart (he cried the first time they met!) and it is really confusing and painful having to feel that and yet you have no idea why you’re feeling it. That’s how I can relate to him; I have no idea why I’m always sad…I’m oblivious to the reasons why I’m suffering. And like Grim Reaper, it really frustrates me that I am feeling all these sad emotions and yet I have no idea why. We’re both trying to find out what sins we’ve committed for us to suffer this much.
Eun Tak. When you’ve been through so much hardships in life that sometimes all you gotta do is put on a smile and just face the day (because really, do you even have a choice?) even though your heart is breaking….that’s how I can relate to her. She remained cheerful and optimistic despite all the pain she’ve been through….But even the strongest person has to fall down sometimes and when you feel like everything else seems to go against you that’s when you will become desperate and would wish that somehow in some ways, you could still be saved. And when you find out that something/someone, you hold on to that. Like Eun Tak, I’ve been through a lot of hardships too, and most of the time my defense mechanism became faking my happiness; fake it till you make it.
Sunny. She’s the owner of the chicken restaurant where Eun Tak works. I can relate to her in a way that I’m also in this moment in life when I’m looking for love. On her part, I guess she’s looking for the romantic kind of love, while me on the other hand, I’m just looking for love itself. I just have this strange feeling that I’ve always been deprived of it.
Deok Hwa. Oh, the only real and normally functioning human in this K Drama! (that is until episode 12 LOL). As mentioned earlier, he is the “nephew” of Goblin. Basically, I can relate to Deok Hwa in the sense of “immaturity” Like Deok Hwa, being a young adult sometimes feel scary to the point that you would rather just be carefree. There also moments in my life that I’m being Deok Hwa, who only cares about myself. However, like Deok Hwa, I’m also doing the best that I could in order to grow up and become mature enough to handle the challenges that the world has to offer. Deok Hwa’s my favorite even though he’s a supporting character for he somehow represents some people of my generation (especially me). And although he’s the one who didn’t get a proper closure in the end (SPOILER ALERT!) I really do hope he became happy with his true love: his credit card (LOL, jk).
I really took Goblin in a personal level, right? I just feel so attached to this drama and its characters!
PS, I’ll write two more blog posts about Goblin. The second one is about the life lessons I’ve learned and the third and final one would focus on my thoughts about episode 12.
“There’s a place for us somewhere.” - Kim Shin, main verse ;3
@mythvoiced ♚ from x.
♔ ———–
   Preparing meals together has become a habit. While at first, they wouldn’t stand each other and would fight at the table with hovering objects and flying plates, now they’re shoulder to shoulder, one cutting scallions as the other makes sure his precious meat is still available for dinner. They tend to talk about random topics but, at times, profound subjects get touched, as if the salty scent of nourishment allowed personal perspectives to blossom; akin to comfort that makes muscles grow loose.
   Knife slices another piece of spring onions, Goblin’s voice suddenly entering Reaper’s ears. He’d been too quiet, that Reaper almost asked if he was thinking about something in particular --- it seems he did. The Angel’s of Death first response is to give into the tiniest of smiles; focused on not cutting his own finger...even if nothing would even happen if he did. Oh, the habits that develop when being amid humanity.
  “I think we’ve found our place. For now.”
   At first, his mind used to tell him that his place was between the other reapers. He was part of the same profile; a group of amnesiacs guiding souls to fulfill a punishment due to sins committed. Unlike Goblin, Reaper at least could find familiarity in others. But now, now he feels like his place is elsewhere. Sure, he can’t leave his colleagues alone, he’s the head of the batch, but let’s just say he’s found a spot he looks forward to visit every day.
   He waits for Goblin to guess what he means. When he finishes cutting the scallions, he looks up to address Dokkaebi, waiting for something ---- anything. All he witnesses is a face riddled with confusion. Or, at least, that’s what Reaper believes he’s seeing. He reaches out for the closest tool he has at hand (a wooden spoon) and shamelessly hits Kim Shin’s head with it.
  “Aish, it’s here! Here, this house! This is our place!”
    Not when it’s empty, though. He finds it a bit depressing when it is. Reaper enjoys coming in and seeing Goblin’s coat perched on the rack, as well as his shoes placed nearby. He likes hearing Deok-Hwa beg his uncle for a credit card, even if Dokkaebi won’t budge an inch. He finds comfort when Eun-Tak sits down and helps him fold the laundry, even if he won’t say it out loud. Unconsciously so, they’ve become a family. A strange one, most likely, with their own unique features, but with pieces that make them fit perfectly together.
   This is somewhere.
Goblin Naver TV cast views
The following is the view ranking of Goblin video clips on Naver TV Cast . Naver has about 50% market share in South Korea, so it is safe to say that its views represent the popularity of the South Korean public. As I said before, over 1 million views on Naver TV cast is really rare case, but 12 clips of Goblin surpassed 1 million views. You can feel how much its popularity was so insane here in South Korea.
