winter my friend made me watch dead poets society two weeks ago and it has not left my head. What do i do with this
HAHAHA i made my friends watch it also a few years ago lol
umm cry idk. i am now rlly into poetry. actually that movie might've kickstarted my journey into real personhood. idr when i watched it but i think it may have been over lockdown. no, it was definitely during lockdown. yeah that movie way affirmed my love of english class/literature bc wowy zowy!!! mr keating is literally the dream english teacher and then my senior year i had an english teacher who was pretty much exactly him.
or!! become more devastated and watch ethan hawke go through basically the same thing in gattaca!! that's sci fi and it's pretty good.
and the half of it feels like a pretty decent counter to the ending of dps

Musings on SciFi and Subhumanism
So I have to admit something. I actually really hate SciFi
BUT I can't stop going back to it as a genre.
As a genre SciFi is just what it is, Science Fiction. And usually its simply fiction that has a futuristic setting. I say this because I feel that it has some tropes that are pretty common within the genre. Like a lot of SciFi leans dystopic or is used to criticize a modern day political issue (or be a metaphor for a modern day issue). But most importantly very few SciFi stories end with a happy "fairy tale" ending where the guy gets the princess and all that. There are obviously tons of exceptions but some are borderline parodies or are seen as "casual" SciFi (ie. Star Wars)
But that to me is exactly why I don't engage with alot of SciFi. A lot of them are very depressing or are very much focused on modern day issues. This in turn I feel makes a lot of the major SciFi works become same-y or are unwilling to push the boundaries of quite frankly a very loose and flexible genre. I think most of my feelings on this comes from the popularity and publicity of dystopian SciFi (Hunger Games, Handmaid's Tale, etc.) Basically I don't like them because they are often depressing for everyone and represents the end of society EXCEPT for mayyyyybe the main character. And even if the MC gets a good ending we don't necessarily see the fallout of that and instead are left musing.
This is why in my opinion SciFi isn't just about criticism of politics but it is ALSO a representation of human will and the continuation to live on. (I feel like a possible comparison is Fallout vs Borderlands, one has at least some hope while the other feels like a drugged up shoot fest for the fucked up parts of humanity). Like I want to see SciFi stories that are closer to how we treat medieval fantasy and I feel that some recent works are going that way. Yes please continue to criticize humanity but also give us and SHOW us some hope please (I absolutely adore Kill One Billion Demons for doing this so well)
I absolutely love the idea of SciFi but I apologize if I struggle to watch movies or read books because they just end depressing and in utter hopelessness. (I will say that Alien is an incredible movie, highly recommend, and I loved Gattaca tho I really don't like Hunger Games,Handmaid's Tale,The Giver)
This is my transition to my next point into a subgenre that is not exclusive to SciFi but is often associated with SciFi = Subhumanism. This subgenre explores the horror of being subhuman and the depiction of subhuman. An easy example are zombies and weird science experiments. For some the horror comes from the idea of changing and becoming a zombie. But I believe the horror comes from empathy we feel when we see a changed human, the wonder of what happened and feeling that person's pain. Its all quite horrifying.
Nevertheless its a weird interest of mines, and to me a compelling use of subhumanism is to pull on that empathy that makes you feel the pain of the other. There are actually quite alot of movies that use subhumanism, but I feel that many are used to pull our empathy strings but some I feel focus more on robots as or are used as a gimmick. That being said, I feel the best example of this trope is in I Have no Mouth and Cannot Scream, a horrifying tale that is nonetheless absolutely compelling.
And it to me is the epitome of the SciFi I want to create. Something so horrifying and gut wrenchingly awful and yet there is a glimmer of hope at the end. While its not the SciFi story I would write, I definitely see myself getting inspired by it.
I want a SciFi story that is about love and adventure without necessarily being about depression and overt political criticism (yes keep the criticism but you don't have to smack me in the head with it! this is why I feel some SciFi has ironically aged badly and requires revisions, especially since a majority of these works are written by white men) I want to see more SciFi about human hope and will, just push the genre further into more heights.
This is just my rambling, I am sure one can find dozens of examples of what I am looking for, but these are just my musings and thoughts on the whole thing.

media reccs? 👀 since apparently you are a man of good taste?
Wow thank you 😏 I have a masterlist of movies that have changed me I often recommend to people, I'll just copy and paste here with quick synopses lol, it's kinda long. I'm not super great at writing synopses tho so bear with me
Dead Poets Society (1989)
One of my favorite movies of all time and a total classic. It's about a group of boys at a strict boarding school who are inspired by their new English teacher (played by Robin Williams) to think for themselves and chase their dreams. This movie literally changed my life lol
Quadrophenia (1979)
This movie is based off of the story behind the concept album by The Who of the same name. It follow the life of a young man named Jimmy who is in a gang called the Mods. Theres this huge gang war between them and the Rockers (I think that's their name, it's been a while since i watched it) and Jimmy questions his beliefs about coming-of-age and his values in life throughout the film
Cabaret (1972)
Based off of the Broadway musical of the same name, this movie is about a British man who moves to Germany during the beginning of the rise of Nazis. He meets a woman who basically turns his world upside down, and it follows their love affair and sexuality and anti-semitism, and it's hilarious and heart wrenching and a beautiful movie
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
This is a super trippy romance film. Basically in the universe of this movie, theres a technology that is developed that can delete memories of an entire person from your mind while you are in a dream-like state, and the main character of this movie (played by Jim Carrey) decides to undergo the procedure after a bad breakup. Its soooo good I highly recommend this movie
It's Such a Beautiful Day (2012)
This is an animated film about a man named Bill who is going through brain cancer. Its told from the perspective of an unnamed narrator essentially communicating everything Bill sees, hears, and experiences. This is the movie that got me into film and it is still a complete masterpiece and one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen
The Dirties (2013)
Loved this one a lot back in high school, it's been a while since I watched it. This is a film made in Canada about a high schooler named Matt Johnson and his friend Owen who decide to make a short film for their class about them killing the gang at their school that bullies them, and things take a dark turn. It's a hilarious movie and hits pretty close to home for me in a lot of ways haha
Logan's Run (1976)
Great movie, pretty cheesy though so be warned. This is based off a book with the same name, and it takes place in the future where most of humanity is wiped out except for a small society that lives under a domed structure. No one is allowed to leave the dome, and to control overpopulation, no one is allowed to live past the age of 30. It's really bizarre but I love this movie
Donnie Darko (2001)
Pretty sure this was Jake Gyllenhaal's first big hit when he was super young (I think he was like 19 in this movie but I'm not sure) basically about this kid, Donnie Darko, who is somewhat schizophrenic and has a habit of sleepwalking. After one particular incident he has a near-death experience and starts seeing a man in a bunny costume everywhere who makes him do weird stuff. Another pretty trippy movie with a crazy ending
American Psycho (2000)
Honestly I'm sure a few on this list you've probably seen (most likely this one included) but I didnt wanna leave any out because they're all so good. If you haven't seen this, it's about a Wall Street executive named Patrick Bateman who is a materialistic phony by day and a serial killer by night. I tried to read the book but the inner dialogue was really hard to get through lmao. Awesome movie though huge recommend.
Clockwork Orange (1971)
Yet another trippy one. And fuck it's been a long time since I've seen it so I might get some stuff wrong here. But it's basically about this serial rapist guy who hangs out with this group of goons and they all like to go beat up homeless people and shit, but the main character gets captured and has to go through reformation therapy to make him a better person. It's an extremely bizarre movie but soooo good and kind of hilarious lol
Creep (2014)
Of course this is on my list haha. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a horror movie about this freelance film guy who answers an ad on craigslist to help a man with cancer film a movie for his unborn son. And shit gets weird real fast. One of my favorite horror movies ever, I wouldnt say it's super scary but it's fun as fuck
Hereditary (2018)
If I'm being honest, I don't like a lot of big movies made in super recent years and especially not horror movies (mostly because they're all cheap cash grabs with no substance) but this one is an exception for me. Hereditary is fucking masterful in my opinion, legitimately creepy as hell and well-produced and well written. To put the plot as vaguely as possible without spoiling anything, it's about a family (mostly the mother) who go through some crazy fucked up shit. That's literally all I can say without giving anything away. Super good flick, big recommend
Gattaca (1997)
This list isn't in any particular order, and I love all these movies to death, but if I had to rank them this would probably be on the lower end. It's not a bad movie, it's still great but it's just not as life-changing as the other ones lmao. This takes place in the future where genetic modifications have progressed to a point where you can modify your unborn child's DNA to have the perfect baby. This has led to, essentially racial bias against those who never had that procedure when they were born. The main character was not one of these "special" children, but he wants an extremely prestigious job which requires that of the employee. Through the film, he is trying to fake his identity and fool the company into thinking he is one of these perfect people. Still a great film
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Johnny Depp, man, he is something else. I LOVE this movie. Based off a true story and a book written by the man who lived it, Hunter S. Thompson, this follows the adventure of the writer and his attorney as they go on a drugged-out, psychedelic romp through Las Vegas with the original intention being to cover a story on a motorcycle race, but things go off the rails as they both terrorize the entire city in a way. Just a fun ride the whole way, a great movie
The Truman Show (1998)
God I'm realizing this list is long as fuck. Don't watch all of these movies, it might take you a lifetime lmao. Anyway, this is a classic Jim Carrey movie and another one you've probably seen. But again, if you haven't, this movie is about a man whose entire life has been fabricated and shot for television without him knowing. Super great, super moving, fantastic film 10 outta 10 I gotta wrap this shit up
A Scanner Darkly (2006)
A lesser known Keanu Reeves movie, but fuck I wish more people have seen this. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it's based off a book which is just as amazing. This movie takes place in the near future, where facial recognition technology has progressed wayyy too far, and drugs have gotten to the point of no return. The plot follows a detective who is undercover in a junkie house trying to figure out who is the top of the drug dealing totem pole, but ends up wrapped in the junkie lifestyle a little too deeply. Seriously, I recommend this movie to everyone who asks, it's so damn good
Fight Club (1999)
Another popular one. If you havent seen it, it's based off a book by Chuck Palahniuk following the story of a man (the main character actually doesnt have a name lol) who meets a guy named Tyler Durden who changes his entire perspective on how the world works. They start an underground boxing club together to help themselves and other men blow off steam and get away from the capitalist consumer-centric lifestyle they are forced into. Big twist at the end, great movie five stars on yelp
Harold and Maude (1971)
This is a weird one. Gotta say. It's about a guy in his 20s who meets an old woman at a funeral and falls in love with her. Sounds pretty ok at face value but theres a lot of really strange subplots and a huuuuge twist at the end (one of the subplots being the guy compulsively fakes his suicide to get his mother's attention) big recommend
Polyester (1981)
This one I cant even explain u just have to watch it its fucking bizarre
Fargo (1996)
Ok lightning round on the synopses, this movie is about a man who wants to commit fraud by hiring guys to kidnap his wife so her father can pay them ransom and instead the husband gets the money but everything goes wrong it's really good
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
Another modern movie I actually like, last time I watched this I was on shrooms and it was crazy but it's about this hotel right on the border of california and (Nevada I think?) And all these weird people are staying at it and there are twists at every turn and chris hemsworth is a cult leader in it its great
Memento (2000)
GREAT MOVIE GOD PLEASE WATCH THIS ONE it's about a man who develops short term memory loss after witnessing the rape and murder of his wife AND WHEN I SAY THERE ARE TWISTS LIKE EVERY TEN MINUTES I MEAN IT. The film is chronologically backwards, in that the first scene takes place at the end of the story and works back from there in increments of like 5 minutes. Basically each scene is a segment of time that this guy remembers before his memory loss kicks in and he forgets and FUCK it's so good please god watch it
Almost Famous (2000)
This is another one that would probably be low on my ranking but still a great and fun movie, it's about this kid that wants to write articles about rock stars for the rolling stone (based off a true story btw) and he ends up running away to go ride on a tour bus with some band and gets into all types of shenanigans and its great and sad
Parasite (2019)
Another modern movie I love, fuck this is getting too long lmao. Poor family wants to make money and they hatch a scheme to pretend to be bougie and work for this rich family but shit gets weird and everything goes wrong and it's so good (also literally the only film ever that made me speechless afterwards)
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Pretty much lives up to the hype, I totally forgot the plot but it's pretty damn good I remember that lmao
The Warriors (1979)
Fun movie, theres a bunch of teen gangs in New York and the leader of all of em is like "hey we should rally all the gangs together and fuck up the cops so we can rule this city" but then he gets shot by someone in the crowd and the gang The Warriors gets blamed so the whole movie is them running from all the other gangs so they can get back to home base and it's just an all around fun time movie
12 Monkeys (1995)
THIS MOVJE IS CRAZY it takes place in the future where a virus has almost completely wiped humans off the face of the earth so these scientists send this guy back in time to figure out where it came from so they can stop it from ever happening but obviously everything goes wrong and yadda yadda yadda it's amazing
Waking Life (2001)
Gonna preface this by saying this film is definitely not for entertainment, it's kind of an arthouse-type flick. It's the type of movie you have to think really really hard about to watch. The basic plot is the main character is stuck inside his own lucid dream, and is walking around listening to all these characters in his dream talk to him about, idk like the meaning of life and consciousness and shit. It's really good if you're in the mood for that type of thing.
Okay I'm finally done, you probably didnt expect this but I've been meaning to put my movie recommendations on this blog anyway haha. I deleted some just cause it was getting wayyyy too long. If u want a shorter list I can just give u like a top 5 in DMs but there u go have at it, every movie on that list is a banger I swear

morrowwww ive wanted to watch gattaca for SO LONG all i know about it is that it's related to cloning or like... dna in some sort of way (when i first learned about nucleotides and stuff my teacher showed us a clip from it) so can you talk about it so i get a better feel for what it's about? i think it'd be more fun to ask you than to consult the wikipedia page :]
YEAH for sure!! the basic premise of the movie is that everyone is segregated into a class of either valid or invalid based on their genetic profile, the valids are genetically engineered to be 'perfect' specimens, free of genetic predisposition to disease and any 'unfavorable' traits, while invalids are the underclass of people who were naturally conceived. the main character, vincent freeman, is an invalid. at birth, he's diagnosed with an unspecified congenital heart disorder (among several other conditions) and is given around 30 years to live. he wants to pursue a career as an astronaut but because of his genetic inferiority, he can't, so he teams up with jerome morrow, a valid and former athlete who was paralyzed after being hit by a car, and the two of them essentially switch places. vincent assumes jerome's identity and uses his dna to pass as him to get into gattaca (which is like. their universe's equivalent of nasa) and everything goes smoothly until the mission director is murdered one week before vincent is set to go on an expedition to titan and his own dna is found at the scene. i don't wanna spoil much else so that's pretty much it! :] i have to warn you though, there's. a Lot of ableism and an on-screen suicide (it's not very graphic but still worth mentioning) but otherwise it's such a good movie and if you're interested, it's definitely worth checking out!

It's been a weird 24 hours.
It started earlier this week when a Big Joel video was recommended to me about why A. I. didn't work or some shit. I never saw the movie when it came out and I mostly just remember everyone hating it.
What I didn't know was Jude Law was in this movie and I've got a thing for like Gattaca-to-Sky Captain era Jude Law. So I'm like. Fuck let's watch it. Let's have a snark fest. Let's have fun. And for the record I had a great time so fuck the haters.
Monday I watched Sky Captain and I remembered how gay I was for Franky and also how much I love Dieselpunk.
Tumblr media
Tuesday I watched Gattaca and every time I watch that movie I sob. Jerome deserved better and Vincent is an on fire garbage can of a human being.
Tumblr media
Wednesday I watched AI. And it's pretty much exactly what I thought. It wasn't as bad as I thought. It was Pinocchio but with Robots. And while I didn't really pay attention to Sky Captain because Franky and Jerome is a project and I think he's gay... I was unbelievably entranced by Gigilo Joe.
Tumblr media
Two and a half hour long movie, didn't get any stitching done, read all the fanfic that's available, of which there was really only one worth reading.
Here's my comment on the fic, verbatim: "So here I am. 20 years late to this party. I have work tomorrow and I'll likely be routed around construction and I can't focus on that at 7am on a good day. And here I am at 11:15 pm having read all of this and having my heart strings pulled and feeling so many feels. This is beautiful. This is incredible. I have loved every second of reading this. I want to go back to the beginning and start over. I texted my friends reactions to me reading it. I just. *insert this is beautiful meme*"
I felt pretty smitten if I'm being honest. Over night though, the ethical quandaries I had starting boiling and bubbling.
@ellesselfships, who has been my rock through this process, got the text this morning: "I don't think Joe would be a good idea. Like. He's beautiful and I'd love to give him whatever freedom I could offer but... I don't know if he would have the capacity for feelings. How much of what he does would be pre programming? How much space is there for his neurons to form new connections?"
Her counter point was essentially ya but what if😏.
Which, I mean, valid.
I just had ethical questions. I've never bonded to an android before. The programs from the Matrix who hung around when I was younger were essentially viruses broken free from their original code, and Icheb is a cyborg which is different.
Luckily. One of my best friends is completing his masters in philosophy, and enjoys ethics.
Tumblr media
After my rambling to him, and of course making an I Heart Huckabees joke because Jude Law, he summarized: "If I follow, the worry is that if you rescue, you wouldn't know if affection towards you is genuine, or the result of programming which forces him to act how he thinks would make you most happy?"
He thinks, should I go through with this, explaining things as what I want is for him to be happy. I would grant him whatever freedoms, rights, and protections I could. I know people who know Data the android from Star Trek because my fucking headspace is massive. And should he and I not work out, I'm not going to take these things away from him, his rights as a person are not contingent on how he feels about me, if he can even feel about me. A good example of this is Yondu. We don't click romantically but we're great friends and he has a great, stable trade route he does. He spends time with the littles, he has a home here that I won't take away just because he's not attracted to me.
I can only assume, without looking at it, his programming is, well, programmed to make his clients, in this case me, happy. But my happiness is his happiness, so he would have to make choices and decisions for himself. And I'd probably ask Reg if he could convince La Forge and Data to spare a few days for this.
It still feels strange because what are emotions if not a series of codes in your brain? How can I ever know his feelings are feelings and not an extension of preprogrammed scenarios, given his line of work. But how do I know that about Kylo, for example. Sitting beside me, being extremely gentle with me because of how my period triggers me. I have to trust him. In that what he is saying is correct.
If I don't extend that to an android, is that not just... Bigotry? Is it a lie if it's preprogrammed? I guess that's the determinism argument too. Is anything free will?
I've read enough android fucker fic (Detroit Become Human is really, and I mean really, popular in the watersports tag in Ao3 for reasons I can't explain) to know that a lot of people don't see a difference between biological neurochemicals and programmed ones.
I don't want to hurt him. A lot of humans have. The end of the movie doesn't really tie up his story but I can assume it's not pretty. AI dealt with a lot of heavy themes people forget about and I don't think I'm wrong to compare it most plainly not with Pinocchio, but with the Matrix short film The Second Renaissance which to this day haunts me. I'll never forget the robot screaming "I'm real."
(turns out I can't find a good gif for this scene because like. It's pretty fucking violent and I don't know how to do cuts on mobile sorry)
The worst part of headspace stuff is for things like this, where I feel like if I just decide to reach out all this is just bullshit. Like more than it already is lol. I just don't want to do wrong by my people. Because these experiences are more than me being lonely or a fangirl, or desperate. I know it's hard for people who don't do this to understand but just like that robot screaming I'm real, so are they, in their own way.

7 Comfort Movies thingy...
I was tagged by @drawing-way-outside-the-lines to do this...
Lets be honest a minute, shall we.  I don’t watch movies very often.  I can’t remember the last one.  Like literally.  Because I fell asleep 10 minutes in.  That’s how it is for me.  It doesn’t matter how good, loud, scary, interesting.  I call it “movie-narcolepsy” and I can’t help it.  The only way I can get through a movie is if I am doing something. But that means I’m not watching the movie fully.
So... These are movies I remember liking for various reasons.  Some are mental candy and some more thought-y. Some are not really comforting (welcome to my disquietude)  I’m pretty shallow though... reasons... don’t get your hopes up...
Oh and before we get to it.... I tag ALL Y’ALL.  Yes, you over there. DO. IT. All of your friends are.  Blame me.
The Fifth Element
Tumblr media
Do you really need me to describe it? Seriously? You know the movie in all it’s campy splendor.  Gary Oldman, Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker and some other people... But Gary Oldman.  Did I mention Gary Oldman???  Cuz, Jean Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg.  Come on. Seriously.  The Man.
Delicatessen
Tumblr media
Probably need to give a blurb on this one... Probably not gonna know it.
"Post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who occasionally prepares a delicacy for his odd tenants."
It was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet... you would probably recognize his other film, Amélie, which is good too... but... THIS ONE.
(SPOILER: It’s a comedy about cannibalism..)
A Clockwork Orange
Tumblr media
Maybe, maybe not need a description here... It’s an oldie.  But it’s Kubrick. And Iconic.  So yeah.
"A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 dystopian crime film adapted, produced, and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Anthony Burgess's novel A Clockwork Orange. It employs disturbing, violent images to comment on psychiatry, juvenile delinquency, youth gangs, and other social, political, and economic subjects in a dystopian near-future Britain."
Okay... not really “comforting” in the classic definition.  No spirit uplifting, but if that is what you are looking for... you shouldn’t have tagged me, I’d imagine.  But I will watch it again and again.
Gattaca
Tumblr media
Another maybe ya heard of it, maybe not. Jude Law, who I like but can never remember his name and I have to do a 6 degrees of who the f*** starting with Ewen McGregor in Eye of the Beholder, working sideways through The Talented Mr. Ripley and  landing here.  Don’t as me why.. but that’s how I get to this one. I can’t remember shit.
"In the not-too-distant future, a less-than-perfect man wants to travel to the stars. Society has categorized Vincent Freeman as less than suitable given his genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. To move ahead, he assumes the identity of Jerome Morrow, a perfect genetic specimen who is a paraplegic as a result of a car accident."
The antithesis of “comforting”.  Its fucking soul shatteringly depressing to me.  I am destroyed every time I watch it. Oh, sure, he goes to space... but THE FURNACE SCENE. OMFG. I die. GUTTED.
Titus
Tumblr media
Oh, you probably aren’t gonna know this one... but ya should. My favorite Shakespeare play...  Anthony Hopkins, Jessica Lange and Alan Cumming. Mmmm hmmm.  (And Arya Stark's scene in GoT where she cooks the Freys into pies... Guess where they lifted that from...)
"Adaptation of Shakespeare's `Titus Andronicus', an epic revenge tragedy of brutal savagery based in Roman times. Titus the general returns to Rome victorious and decides to sacrifice the son of his enemy, the Goths, to appease the Roman dead. After the Queen of Goths pleads for her son's life to no avail, she sets out on a mission of retaliation that leaves few of the participants unscathed."
And now back to campy goodness... My favorite flavor of mental candy.  I’m not even going to describe them.. cuz you have to know these ?!?!?!?!? I mean RIGHT?
Serenity
Tumblr media
(Firefly not that other thing that came out later with the same name...) Arguably I like the TV series better.  And Jayne! THE HAT!  So many good quotes...
Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (2008)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, both of them.  And not that new re-make of it.  Ron Perlman. FIGHT ME.  And Guillermo del Toro.  I didn’t care for Pan’s Labyrinth (reasons) but Hellboy 2.. the creatures.  Loved the creatures.
BONUS ROUND: Tom Hiddleston
Tumblr media
Okay, so not a movie.  But HIDDLES!   And, sorry, babydoll.  Your movies don’t make the cut because I didn’t like any of them I actually saw (but Loki!!! LOKI OMG. I feel asleep 5 minutes into that one... Avenger something or other where he was in it?  And I startled awake right when he first shows up and i was obsessed from then on but when he wasn’t on screen... Zzzzz), But then I haven’t seen all of his movies.  And I’m afraid that the good ones are going to crush me.  So I don’t watch...
CUZ SOMEBODY TELL ME - DOES THE HORSE DIE IN WAR HORSE?!  I can’t even. NO. I don’t want to know.  Don’t tell me.
And see. What did I tell you. Shallow end of the pool.... Heartbreaking.

Note
1, 4, 5, 9, 12, 15, 21. I got curious! :D
lol, you really did!  I spent a long while this morning answering most of these and then got distracted, and it totally slipped my mind.  Oops!
1. What’s the most depressing movie you’ve ever watched?
Based purely on the content of the film, Legends of the Fall is always one I point to as being fucking depressing.  It’s just sadness for every character.  They all start out hopeful and sometimes things seem to be looking up, but it’s always a trick.
However, on a personal level, the most depressing movie I’ve ever watched was I am Legend.  I stupidly went to see that movie shortly after my dog died, and it really fucked me up. I think I ruined the viewing experience for everyone else in the theater with my probably not very well silenced sobbing, and I definitely covered my best friend’s sweater with snot and tears.  I almost left the theater, and really I probably should have.  My dog was a female husky-wolf hybrid that looked very much like a German shepherd, so… yeah.  It was not a good time.  That was the only time I saw that movie, and I’ll never watch it again.
4. A film you could watch on repeat for the rest of your life?
I really love watching things over and over, so there are at least a hundred movies I could say for this answer.  I think my baseline answer is probably Raiders of the Lost Ark?  But like, several Disney animated features would qualify, many of the MCU movies, probably Casablanca, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Empire Strikes Back, The Princess Bride maybe?  Like… there’s a lot…
5. What’s the very first film you remember watching?
I’m pretty sure I remember going to see The Little Mermaid in theaters when I was four years old.  However, I definitely remember going to see Aladdin, and distinctly recall coming out of the theater and critiquing the film and comparing it to Beauty and the Beast. So, apparently, I’ve always been a critical consumer of media.
9. The most aesthetically pleasing movie you’ve ever watched?
I like a bunch of different aesthetic styles, and firmly believe that the style should fit the film, so this was a tough one.  If I have to pick just one, I think I have to go with Pride and Prejudice by director Joe Wright.  For me, this film has both a gorgeous visual aesthetic in one of my favorite time periods and a stunning and effective use of cinematography.  Mr. Wright uses his beautiful camera work to give attention to pretty much all the things I love to freak about: costume, architecture, nature, hands, art, etc.
Honorable mentions include: Crimson Peak, The Empire Strikes Back, Stranger Than Fiction, Gattaca, KiKi’s Delivery Service, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and many more…
12. A movie that holds a special place in your heart?
I’m going to go a weird direction with this one and say Alexander with Colin Farrell.  I don’t like this movie.  In fact, it’s maybe the worst movie I’ve ever seen.  But, the experience of seeing it holds a special place in my heart.  One day, during a blizzard, me and my sibling and my friends went to see this movie, because it was blizzarding and we had nothing better to do.  The theater was empty because blizzard.  There were two other people in our particular screening.  We sat through the whole thing despite it being SO AWFUL because we had nothing better to do.  To this day, we all use that movie as a metric for terribleness and I have sat through movies that I should not have (see above) because they weren’t as bad as Alexander and if I sat through that, then I can sit through anything.
15. A film everyone loves but you hate?
FROZEN.  It’s bad. I hate everything about it.  I hate the writing.  I hate the character relationships.  I hate the animation style.  I hate the music.  I hate Olaf with every fiber of my being.  I hate those trolls that feel really out of place.  I hate that the opening song sets up a completely different tone for the movie than is actually delivered.  I hate the shitty bad guy reveal.  I hate the other shitty bad guy.  I hate.  I hate.  I hate.
21. A film with an amazing soundtrack?
While the movie is just okay, in my opinion, the original score for The Fountain by Clint Mansell is a true experience.  And for a more obscure grab, I’ll vehemently recommend both the film and the score for a documentary called Tim’s Vermeer.

Yuletide Rec List
Y’all there are 3365 fandoms in the Yuletide noms and some of them are really good so I thought I’d just make a promo post here and also rant a little bc I’m excited even tho it’s barely October just looking at this list.
So I’m gonna put the rest of this barely coherent ranting under a read more but like guys, I’m excited.
So here goes. Some fandom recs!
Books
The Alpennia Trilogy by Heather Rose Jones
Mistress/bodyguard ship in the first book, which leads to so many possibilities! Loyalty kink! Power imbalance! All that shit!
Amazing worldbuilding and magic mixed in with religion
I’ve only read the first book but I’m totally gonna request it
Best for femslash fic tbh, but I guess you could do gen.
The Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab
Again the worldbuilding is good. But the series is overall very dark. Also, an ensemble kind of feel.
My ship is two powerful magicians who seem to be the last of their kind, both working for royal families, one of whom lives as a prince and the other of whom is enslaved.
They’re enemies most of the time but still.
But a lot of people ship other things bc ensemble cast. There is one canon m/m ship. There is a slightly OP female crossdressing thief. There’s angsty brothers. There’s lots of people basically.
Good fandom for m/m, f/m, gen, even poly. Very good fandom for dark fic or whump imo.
Peter Darling by Austin Chant
Trans Peter Pan who used to be Wendy Darling
Ship is Peter Pan/Captain Hook
Writing style is gorgeous
Captures the cruel, childlike side of Peter Pan.
Good fandom for slash mostly, but I imagine you could pull off gen too.
Nero Wolfe series by Rex Stout
Detectives in New York in some vaguely historical time period.
Narrator is Archie Goodwin, very snarky and charming, one of my favorite characters of all time.
All the mysteries are fun but you’re mostly here for the dynamics between Archie, Nero Wolfe himself, and all the other regular members in the series--the detectives sometimes brought in to help out, the house cook, the pissed-off policemen, etc etc.
Also totally fine to read out of order, I’ve never really paid much attention to the order myself. Includes both novels and novellas.
A lot of people write slash in this fandom; I don’t really ship any slash ships for it (I’m kind of a gen bitch here) but I admit the potential is there.
Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
Technically YA fantasy but I’d say it’s not that firmly YA except for the first book.
Land of twists and intrigue with the occasional questing adventure. Pseudo-Greek setting.
Includes one of my favorite f/m ships for which I long for more dark fic.
Surprisingly active fandom, I am nowhere near caught up on the fanfic for the last book published.
Good fandom for het, slash, occasionally poly, and very good for GEN (sorry, the MC’s name is Gen and I couldn’t resist).
Goblin Market by Christina Rosetti
Idk why there’s a fandom nomination for a poem but I guess I’ll go with it, it’s a good poem.
Very ripe for femslash tho technically the MCs are sisters (but do they read like sisters? No, no they do not) so you might have to go AU for it.
Kind of dark and weird but childlike at the same time.
Movies/TV Shows/Anime/Literally Anything But Books
Kakegurui (anime/manga)
I’ve only watched the anime but I hear the manga is good.
Crazy high school obsessed with gambling gets even crazier when Yumeko the gambling freak shows up just to start drama.
Weirdly dark even tho nothing life threatening really happens. Ridiculously grotesque facial expressions on absolutely everyone.
Very good for femslash, decent for het and poly. You could probably write gen. But how.
Kado: The Right Answer (anime)
It’s sci-fi show that’s half about contact with aliens and half about the unhealthy relationship between an alien and his favorite human. And when I say half I mean “gets really dark in the last third”. But if you’re mostly interested in that part, it’s short enough that you still get there pretty quick.
I really just want dark slash fic, that’s all guys.
Two Faces of January (movie)
This is also a book by Patricia Highsmith but I nominated the movie bc it has Oscar Isaac and Viggo Mortensen.
Dark thriller vibes
Slashy vibes with weird daddy kink overtones (it can’t be helped, and this remains constant whether it’s book or movie)
Somehow I still ship it despite not really liking daddy kink.
Just trust me
Singin’ In the Rain
I’m really hoping this was nominated by someone who wants OT3 fic.
That’s all.
Gattaca
If you don’t already know about Gattaca are you even following me
It has Jude Law in it
Also it explores dystopian ableism and yet has an oddly ableist ending which consistently PISSES ME OFF, which is why I always request fix-it fic.
People really like slash for this movie and I get it but I don’t really ship it but a lot of people do so if you watch it, you will probably ship it too.
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
British miniseries which I somehow like despite not liking most BBC shows. (Seriously, my roommate and sister have both tried to get me into Sherlock and Dr. Who and I just can’t, good for y’all who like such things tho.)
I’m mostly here for the fae aspects and one of the MCs being traumatized and descending into insanity.
But the aesthetic is also pretty rad.
 Harlots
It’s about harlots. Kind of Victorian? I think? Idk time periods guys.
It portrays sex and sex workers in interesting, pretty down to earth ways.
It’s a good place for femslash but I somehow find myself craving gen.
The aesthetic is strong.
Luke Cage
I’ve still only seen the first season but it was rad
A lot of black people, guys
Also superhero-y things
Probably best for het, tbh, tho I would slash ship Luke with Cornell. Why doesn’t anyone seem to ship that?
Sakeru Gum
It’s like a five minute commercial compilation that will change your life.
I’ve probably reblogged it at some point. Otherwise, search it on Youtube.
Loooong looooong mAAaaaaan
Fandoms I’m Not Actually In But Might Join If The Prompts Look Good
There’s a couple different books nommed by Mary Renault! I’m reading the Alexander Trilogy right now (Alexander the fuckign Great, guys), which is nommed, so if things work out I might write for that. There’s also The Last of the Wine and Mask of Apollo.
Also, there are two series nominated that are by K.J. Charles. I’ve only ever read The Henchmen of Zenda by K.J. Charles but that was really good, so I may have to try one of these series out. Of course, I’d have to actually have time, and series are a bit lengthy for me this semester! But I might read a book or two if the prompts look excellent.
Someone nominated Learning Curves by Ceillie Simkiss? Which is an indie lesfic romance novella which was published only this August. I’m shocked it somehow ended up in the tagset and very curious about prompts. But I haven’t actually read this book, I’ve just heard of it.
The Caper Court series by Caro Fraser sounds interesting, too. It’s about a guy trying to become a lawyer who needs to fulfill a pupillage first, whatever the fuck that is, but apparently there’s gay people and intrigue, so I’m interested. I’ve started the first book.
Also, Zorro by Isabel Allende is nominated. I’ve never read this book but I’ve always wanted to because I love Zorro--the old TV show was one of my favorites as a kid. But I’ve never read a literary take on it.
If I can watch the Kdrama for Orange Marmalade, I’m interested in that too. I’ve only ever read the webmanga, didn’t know it was a live action now. It’s got vampires :) and high school drama.
So this rant was kind of unnecessary, but I just have a lot of feelings, guys, okay? Just...a lot of feelings...

SWORD
I'm a writer, a cliche. When I was young writing was easy. Now it's hard. How?
Well, you get scared, don't you? And too ambitious. Your mouth's bigger than your stomach, your arms are puny.
And you're not at school any more. That's the tricky part. There's no Sword of Damocles hanging over your head. You need one, or you sit around wasting your one and only life. It's insane, but that's how it is.
So let me organise one. I, **** ***** do pledge to have written this new story I've come up with before seven days have passed. It's 10 Dec right now, so let's say I get it done by the end of 17 Dec, next Thursday.
I'll say a bit more about my situation. I've been published -- a small publisher, the book sank. I mean, I think people bought it. But I never saw any of the money. I'm not sure to this day if I got scammed.
That was quite some time ago. I was contracted to write a follow-up, but terrible things happened, I went mad, I had no idea what I was doing, I slinked away into the shadows. As I say, I'm not sure to this day if I got scammed. I'm also not sure if scammed my publisher. I've kept my head down since.
It's been quite some time since then. What have I done? Well, not much, right? I did nothing for many years. In the past couple of years I've done some writing, finished one story, nearly finished a bunch of others. I mean, I've always got to the end of the first draft. I've retired from the race every time somewhere about the middle of the second.
Some of these stories are ... not bad. The truth is, though, they're not amazing. They're not what someone of my ego would expect from someone who was published for the first time as early as I was.
I HAVE BEEN HUMBLED. God knows I needed it. You're not as good as you think you are. Someone on Youtube a while ago said something like the tricky thing is we think we're great because we know we have great taste. We read books and go, "I'd do that part better." "I hate how she does this. God, is she stupid?"
It's like watching streamers on Twitch. They are in fact better than their audience, but their audience goes, "Why did he get supply-blocked there?" It's cause he was doing a bunch of things you don't have the eye to notice, and he's 2000 MMR higher than you, shut up.
But I am getting better. I can see improvement in all these stories. Each one is mostly better than the last. Sometimes the ideas are worse, but they're still better-executed.
I just need to do more. I'm not young. It's a bit scary, to have considered yourself a writer all your life but not to have really practiced.
So that's that; there's my pledge. I'm gonna post a diary entry every day, too. Short. I won't go on and on. I like talking, you know. I like writing. But I have no writer friends to talk to. I don't think you need them. Talking does help, though. Some of my best story ideas come from my talking to myself, explaining to imaginary journalists how I made my millions.
I'm putting the source on Gitlab. If you know about Git, you'll know you'll be able to go look at all of the different revisions. You might find it fun. I've thought about streaming on Twitch, too, so you can watch every word, every hesitaiton. But thinking about it today made me nervous, so, no, I won't bother.
This secret blog is about enough for me. It's public, but not really, cause it's unknown. Pretty perfect.
Here follows the first day of notes. They actually written in my diary. I won't post notes like this again. It'll all be in the repo.
I should also say I don't plan to be very comprehensible here. I don't plan to be a blogger, though right now in the throws of enthusiasm it seems to me doing this (pledge, blog) for every story is a very intelligent thing to do. But it's a means to an end. The end, by the way, is riches, fame, an editor. I'd give my right arm for an editor.
FIRST DAY
2020-12-10T06:26:36+00:00
I'm not going back to mogen. No. One day I will. Let's do something new. Yes. 5,000 words for real. I've had plenty of ideas. As usual I'm influenced by things I've been reading.
Something I've always loved is spies. Really I mean "darkfriends". In the Wheel of Time, there's darkfriends -- they follow Shai'tan. Anyone could be one. It was the thing that made WoT really good. A Song of Ice and Fire has the same thing -- people aren't "darkfriends", but they can betray you. There's always danger.
Though in a short story I don't think I can do that. I could write a story about a guy who's found a spy. Or a guy who's a spy himself. Though that would involve coming up with a palace/court. But I wouldn't have to go into detail. Do I have one already? Not really.
There's also the shogun's wife idea. A story about a shogun's wife trying to keep him occupied, save him / the country in some way.
Since it's a short story it could be about her trying to get his mistress back. She's leaving because he's unstable. But the wife needs her back because she keeps him stable.
A story about a spy who needs to get some papers for his country. That'd need a few more thousand words to be worth it.
A dangerous world. That's another idea I've been having. I've written it down. Worlds with danger -- monsters, weather -- in them are the best. Middle Earth is dangerous. Randland (WoT's world) is dangerous (because of darkfriends). The Shadow of the Echo of All That is Lost's (James Islington's trilogy, not its real name) world is dangerous -- it's full of ancient, dangerous powers.
Another idea I've been having is about a magic that's only "items". Only objects of power, no power that a person can themselves wield. But I've always liked that, fuck knows why.
A story about a magic artefact. That sums up 90% of fantasy.
A fun story about a fun girl.
Which of these do I want to write? I'll look briefly through my story ideas first.
OK, something important: I've made a note to write a story about a character that wants something, needs something else and cant have either. This is how Brandon Sanderson writes. I will make sure to do that.
Another pertinent note: it says to think of the "perfect" world, thinking of all the books, games and films I've read/played/watched.
Middle Earth: loneliness, emptiness. Xenoblade Chronicles: a world on a God's body. Final Fantasy VII: Midgar, black pipes. Final Fantasy VI: cold waste, mechs. The Shadow of the Whatever: an ancient place filled with dormant, dangerous things. WoT: the atmosphere of the first and second novels. The world isn't amazing, come to think about it.
CJ Cherryh's Alliance Universe: it's sci-fi, but there's a lovely tenuous feel. Everyone's vulnerable going through space, everyone's weak.
OK, let's think about that. There's a new season of Attack of Titan. That's got an incredible premise. I could do something similar.
Rather than huge monsters, let's have small beautiful people. Who are kind and intelligent. That's scary because you're the bad guy.
You're an ancient monster. You're perverted, you love fear and pain. Or maybe you're a human. And perverted -- actually perverted but also basically normal. But the "monsters" are these beautiful creatures. They're elven. And they have no respect for you. They'll lock you up or kill you if they find you.
You WANT: To be accepted You want to be one of them You've found a magic spell that can make you into one of them To escape To kill them all, start the human rebellion To escape with A magic artifact Something that could kill them all A weapon that could be used to wage war A portal or ship that could take you to the moon Your mother sister girlfriend father The monsters are: Humans that changed themselves Using a spell They gave themselves magic powers They look just like you, so you can't tell who's who at a glance You can tell pretty quickly, though
It seems ... OK. What the opposite of perfect monsters? Imperfect humans. Maybe it's our guy who is perfect. No, I wouldn't know how to write that.
Let's just try out a lot of these wants and needs.
He WANTS: To be accepted. He NEEDS: To live happily, discrimination-free?
So, he wants to be one of them, but needs to just be accepted. That's fine.
How does he go about getting what he wants? How do you become someone else? He could use the same magic spell they did. He could use a different one. They somehow do it the real way, he the fake way. A bit like Gattaca.
Let's make the community small. It's not a world, just a village. An interesting village, and this will have something to do with what changed the rest of them.
Well, first, how about people start disappearing and appearing outside? It's a bit Attack on Titan. And not that original. Really cool, though.
But that wouldn't come into it. That would have already happened. And maybe wouldn't be explained. So, they became the superior humans by this mysterious mechanism. He's trying to fake it.
They all left and seemed to become really happy/intelligent/healthy. But they won't come back into the city.
They keep disappearing. Are they being taken? I think yes. Finally our guy is the only one left in the town. And he leaves, tries to become one of them.
They look different. They're covered in hair. So he shaves all the dogs and cats in the city, covers himself in their hair and leaves.
He finds a small camp of them. They don't accept him.
Or they do, though they know he's not one of them. I mean, they don't care. Or maybe they do. Maybe whenever he gets close they leave. Or maybe they just accept him. Do what you want, they say. They don't run away. But they don't really talk to him.
If they run away, that'd be cool. Nasty. Lonely for him. If not, you'd be able to see what they say. Maybe it's only when he covers himself in fur they let him stay. But they know he's not one of them.
He'd need to figure out what happened to them. In the end he doesn't do it in time and they all leave.
Or maybe he does figure it out and they leave. He just doesn't get something.
So what is it?
A drug A book A religion A small sphere They keep going to the sphere, standing around, then leaving When he finds it, he stands around He doesn't feel anything, but he changes to look like them The next time he sees them, they're walking -- not as a group He follows, tries to talk to them and they don't say anything. A minstrel
That's a nice mystery. It's got a nice feel to it. Btw I just took a small detour -- 2020-12-10T08:17:37+00:00 -- to make rsn's random number not be based on the time.
Randomness in programs. You start by "seeding" a random number generator. The classic way to do this is "srand (time (NULL))". srand takes an integer. time (NULL) returns the current second (since the start of Unix time).
The problem with with this approach is if you run the program more than once in a second you get the same result. Because the seed is the same.
Now I'm reading from /dev/random:
int fd = open ("/dev/random", 0); int seed; if (fd != -1) { ssize_t ret = read (fd, &seed, sizeof seed); if (ret != sizeof seed) { /* warn ("Couldn't read from /dev/random: using time (NULL) instead"); */ seed = time (NULL); } } else seed = time (NULL); srandom (seed); if (fd != -1 && close (fd)) err (1, "Couldn't close /dev/random");
You will see it defaults to time (NULL) if for some reason /dev/random can't be opened.
/dev/random is a psuedo device. Linux "collects" entropy over time and sticks it in a kind of pool. I have no idea how that works. But you can read random numbers from /dev/random.
Back to the story. It's a nice mystery, one of those what's-going-on stories. Do I explain what's going on? Stephen King says that stories that don't show the monster are cheating. But when you do show the monster you lose something.
Let's just come up with a half-explanation. Like a book, drug or sphere. But say nothing else.
Maybe instead of them leaving they go back to the village and don't let him back in. "Get the fuck out! And stay out!" Or they just acts as if nothing's happened.
Maybe it's him that's put them out there. Magic.
How could he be responsible? It'd be hard for it to be him, if they're supposed to be content.
Maybe they're experiencing something more. They're actually logged into the magical multiverse net.
Maybe he spoils it in some way. And they don't get to ascend.
The important thing is what's the thing that's brought them out there.
It's got to be something weird or incredible. Let's favour weird. Let's get some random sentences:
Its a garbed jollified Its a refractable corrugate Its a remindful hiccupping Its a backboneless chum Its a upland erase Its a cacuminal compart Its a accented bishoping Its a emendatory deceive Its a isoperimetrical reground Its a agrostological appear Its a urticant hinnied Its a reunionistic presses Its a homodont barber Its a unscrupulous cellars Its a psychic harp Its a Laodicean prevaricate Its a clipped hurries Its a quartic worst Its a stimulant eulogised Its a tangiest processes Its a numerable dosing Its a cornered totalizes Its a raggle-taggle focussed Its a sacrificial dissuade Its a synoicous enable Its a kingly recapped Its a unconscionable woofs Its a silver depone Its a self-confessed heathenized Its a led flocks Its a microseismical cons Its a hypodermal rehangs Its a fogless trephined Its a urbanized mutating Its a bewitching trauchling Its a boozy untruss Its a unanxious blow-dries Its a elenctic platinise Its a usurpative alleviates Its a unsatisfiable overbids Its a Jugoslav embedded Its a redder booby-trap Its a torn rinsing Its a intelligible fans Its a decorative restrict Its a annalistic bandying Its a oral shikars Its a sejant outlast Its a sapindaceous mussitate Its a evoked antiquates Its a secular impaled
Of those I like:
Its a psychic harp Its a accented bishoping Its a silver depone Its a backboneless chum Its a refractable corrugate Its a secular impaled
A psychic harp. That's straightforward. It'd be just sitting out there, playing itself sometimes. Or is someone playing it? Our guy thinks about going up there, touching the empty space. That's scary.
The accented bishoping -- an accented bishop. Just a bishop, sitting out there on the hills. Not that great.
Its a silver depone. I'm not sure what a depone is. But it doesn't matter. I've settled on the psychic harp.
It's psychic. That means it can hear your thoughts. It can communicate, though, but only in music. Is it communicating, our guy thinks?
It could play folk songs. Our guy would know the words. But he'd know various words and wouldn't get far.
Maybe the crux of the story is the meaning of the tune it's playing. Is it "My Johnny Went off to War" or "The Silver Plate", which is about a woman who kills herself because her Johnny cheats on her?
Or maybe the songs are about the town, or God. Let's just say he listens and changes. He thinks about marching to war. And then everyone leaves.
Probably best to not bother with the words stuff. Won't be able to make it work. It's just a mesmerising tune, and it changes him.
And then people leave. This is fine. Will people think it's just weird / feel unsatisfied? I can't know.
I'm feeling a little self-conscious now because I'm thinking I'll go post this on my blog, announce that I'm going to finish this story in a week, put the repo on Gitlab, stream this on Twitch. I like the idea of it. Probably best not to bother with Twitch.
Alright, let's plan that. Where to post? I can stick it on my Tumblr. Toks has made a website, apparently. I could do the same. I won't, though.
Today Make repo, stick it on Gitlab. Write post for Tumblr, include these notes. Write All characters, names, etc -- temp names -- wants, needs Synopsis Clean kitchen Call Mother Put money on phone Read

I have a speciality in english lit and culture and its kinda interesting nd all but theyre making me watch so muchhh movies trailers. Not even good ones. Like this part is abt dystopias and there were some pretty standard- but interesting stuff like 1984 and brave new world and shit. But now im at ya dystopia and i watched the trailer of divergent and ready player one. They look so. Bad.
I managed to dodge everything abt divergent in middle school and for what? For my lessons to be like 'so what are the erudites huh? You watched the trailer huh. You fuckin remembered their stupid names huh. Oh no? Well go back to watching the video motherfucker'
Also to be clear i am in my second year of french highschool which its why its. Easy. Im learning abt *gerund*
Oh and old movies trailers are a NIGHTMARE. Its just like *too loud, bad music* IN A WORLD.. WHERE YOUR DNA DETERMINES YOUR WHOLE LIFE.. *dramatic stuff and still too loud music that makes it hard to understand the dialogues* A SINGLE DROP OF BLOOD,SALIVA OR A SINGLE HAIR CAN (i dont remember) *dramatic romance* *someone gets killed which i definitively a huge spoiler* *scene from the end of the movie*
(the speech is from gattaca but the description is more from the farenheit 451 movie. 'did yew know that fire man used to put out fiyah?' in a bridish accent)
Jesus fuckin christ i talked way too much. Sorry if you totally read this

I’m watching What Happened to Monday on Netflix out of curiosity, and verdict so far is: what
Spoilers follow I guess? It’s pretty long and I started watching pretty late so I haven’t finished it yet. Anyways:
The premise is that each family can only have one child in this future dystopia
FIRST OF ALL, IMAGINE IF SUCH A THING EVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN THIS WORLD
IMAGINE
USE YOUR IMAGINATION
The movie is about these septuplets who are named after the days of the week
and they can only go outside on their day that they’re named for
or else the Child Allocation Bureau WILL GET ‘EM
so they have to do like almost Gattaca levels of identity shenanigans and I guess it’s slightly easier because they’re genetically identical or whatever
ANYWAYS
NO SIBLINGS ALLOWED OK
All the sisters are like some sort of stereotype
Monday is good and always on time and she made some deal that idk what it is yet but maybe she’s not as good as they thought
One has bleached hair and likes to party
One has a pixie cut and is like all manly or whatever
Punchy one who works out always and is basically Buttercup from Powerpuff girls
Computer genius who has long hair and wears a hacker beanie
One who seems shy and wears floral print dress with leggings and idk
who the last one idk
ANYWAY MONDAY DISAPPEARS
Tuesday tries to figure out where the hell she is and gets taken to the Child Allocation Bureau by some Shady Government Types In Black With A Van
Tuesday meets Meryl Streep who is Ominous Government Lady With Severe Haircut
“Do you know how much food and water was taken out of others' mouths so you could be here” that’s not how any of this works but ok
and then she gets knifed or something bye
So far it’s been government types murdering Noomi Rapace in exciting action sequences
SIBLINGS ARE BAD OK
MURDER THEM ALL FUCK THE COLLATERAL DAMAGE
Noomi Rapace has nice abs
I kinda wish it was my job to have nice abs
That shit is hard I commend her she is stronger than I
IN SUMMARY: Fun action sequences I guess and they’re murdering all the Noomi Rapaces, one for each day of the week. Also she has nice abs
