I came across this horrible tumblr post that's unfortunately fairly popular, and it's just so fucking upsetting to me. You know that one image with the 'transmasc transition goals vs transfem transition goals' and the transmasc side is all pink and feminine? well this is the twitter screenshot from the post
trigger warning: calling for the death of somebody, disturbing imagery
Tumblr media
I apologize but I cannot be assed to do an image description right now, I am too upset. 'whoever the fuck made this needs to be shot' are you that allergic to feminine transmascs? Jesus fucking christ. And the actual tumblr post ""fixes"" the image by putting team fortress characters on the transmasc side. Can we not do shit like that? feminine trans men and transmascs have it hard enough as is without you fuckers calling for the death of people making memes that have feminine transmasc goals. Feminine transmascs deserve to be depicted, actually.
And I know, somebody may come to me and say "but Sirenium! it's clearly infantilization of transmascs!" and you know what? if your first thought upon seeing femininity is 'infantilization' that is a massive you issue, buddy. I am LIVID as a fairly masculine transmasc that this just goes unchecked. I don't care if it's 'just a joke', you just come off as allergic to GNC trans guys and you need to knock it off.

(just to add a footnote, not taking away from the main point, personal rant)
As someone who's primarily been in cis women places this 100% also happens to masc girls. You look like a guy if you have facial hair, you look like a guy if you shave facial hair cause girls have peach fuzz, you cannot sit like a guy, you cannot laugh like a guy, you cannot sneeze like a guy.
But if you decide to become a guy "oh what's the problem with being a gnc women" look it fucking sucks anyway, I've known legitimate cis women who were constantly bullied for having a SHORT BOB for 'being like a guy' until it grew out, that's not even masc wtf.

trans women can be butch without it invalidating their womanhood. trans men can be femme without it invalidating their manhood. if masculine cis women and feminine cis men exist, there will always be masculine trans women and feminine trans men. if being a butch woman doesn't invalidate cis womanhood, it doesn't invalidate trans womanhood. is being a femme man doesn't invalidate cis manhood, it doesn't invalidate trans manhood. trans people are allowed to be gender non conforming, too- this delight isn't reserved just for the cisgendered.

there is, famously, a huge amount of social pressure on gnc cis people to transition. society just wants more trans people, trans women especially. this is a real and serious problem. there are just too many trans women making egg jokes. we have to protect the poor cis people from being compared to us (which is clearly and self evidently a horrible thing to do clearly)

i'm curious why you feel confident in saying that mizuki was trans, it feels like the story itself only explicitly stated that she's amab - i would really like for it to be confirmed but it feels a bit like jumping the gun
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but considering how uncomfortable Mizuki is with classmates calling her a boy, and how she's gone out of her way to not have N25 know this, and how she reacted to Ena being asked "If you're friends with Mizuki, are you [a cis girl] a boy too?", idk man I think I can jump the gun.
Plus everything in the trans Mizuki post. The blatant use of the trans flag colors, people calling younger Mizuki "weird" and asking "isn't it odd for you to wear that" when she goes into school in typically girly clothes for the first time, Mizuki having short hair and boys clothes in middle school but long hair and girls clothes in high school, her sister encouraging her to stop repressing and live her life on her own terms.
Tumblr media
Like. This is Mizuki's reaction to classmates telling Ena that Mizuki is a guy. It's the fact they asked a cis girl if she was a boy to try and justify why she was friends with Mizuki. Like there's some sort of implication there that they think Mizuki is pretending to be a girl. Yeah sure maybe they'll turn around and say Mizuki is a crossdresser despite everything, but Mizuki being told "isn't it weird for you to dress [like a girl]", "it's just for attention" "it's just a phase". It resonates so much with the trans experience, these are word for word things that trans people hear, and then you can couple that with clpl saying they aim to portray their character's struggles realistically.
Like. Let's get this straight. The boys who ask Ena if "[she's] a guy too" are presumably the same ones who have been showing up in the story since the beginning, being portrayed as bullies. Them calling Mizuki a boy, and making fun of her for dressing in a feminine way, is presented as bullying. Going off that translation doc since sekaibest still doesn't have the script, they follow up that scene by saying that Ena is a "normal girl". Normal is the key word here. Ena is a "normal" (cis) girl to them which implies they view Mizuki as an "abnormal girl" (trans girl), or they outright just call her a guy. Yikes.
Tumblr media
Again. Mizuki's reaction to the bullying speaks volumes. Mizuki had gone through such lengths to hide this from her friends. It feels way too much for them to just say she's a gnc cis boy at the end of it. Listen, if gender wasn't related here, she wouldn't have nearly this much issue with her friend being told she's a gender the story has repeatedly proven that she doesn't want to identify as and have other people identify her with. Simply from the perspective of a screenwriter.
...also mizuki is literally grouped as a girl for gameplay purposes and always has been? And ensekai at least at launch made the executive decision to use she/her for Mizuki.
But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Reminder that anyone who thinks masculinity, especially queer masculinity, is exclusively encouraged and accepted by society even in those viewed as women under the patriarchy, and who argues masculinity can't be transgressive or revolutionary, is living in a TERF fantasy land and should have their opinions treated as such.

tme/tma is a shitty binary to sort people into because it leaves no room for nuance (i.e. intersex people who aren't transfem getting perceived as such and therefore are subjected to transmisogyny, gnc men ((tmasc & cis)), etc.)
transandrophobia & transmisandry don't imply the existence of androphobia nor misandry; the 'trans' is there for a reason
the oppression of transmascs & trans men is rooted in misogyny. we never said it wasn't
trans men don't have privilege over trans women in the public eye because they're still perceived as girls. girls who don't know any better about what they're doing to their body — no matter how old they are — and no matter how well they pass, them being trans can completely change a person's perception of them
passing for transmascs & trans men (especially those in unsupportive households) is no easier than passing for transfems & trans women
any "privilege" we have from being perceived as cisgender women... are you serious? are we being serious right now? we AREN'T cis. we AREN'T women. that's like, the whole thing! you know that, right? you aren't just looking at us and thinking Women Lite, right?
on top of that: what transmascs & trans men are being told is the exact same thing that most of us have been told our whole lives. to "shut up" because we're "girls" who can't understand the topic being discussed; it's just that now, we're being told to because we're men who can't understand the topic of misogyny and oppression. despite many of us having grown up as women & girls, and a lot of us still being perceived as such.
but we're on the internet, and nuance doesn't exist.
transmisogyny & transandrophobia both exist in the real world. those are issues that we, as a community, need to work towards solving in our current day and age. what isn't a real-world problem? about whether or not trans men & transmascs have privilege over transfems — or, god forbid, that we even face oppression in the first place.
p.s. you can be trans and still be transphobic. your identity does not exclude nor excuse you from hate. there is no identity that makes you incapable of wrong. if you think there is, i need you to take a step back from the internet & talk with real people.

I think such a big reason my trans manhood feels almost... bigendered is simply because in the eyes of most people (specifically cis people with whom I interact with most), I straddle this weird line wherein I am a man and often am seen as one, but I am also clearly undefinable insofar as cis theory goes, clearly queer, clearly outside of manhood if one only accepts cishet, patriarchal manhood. This definitely used to be a source of dysphoria for me, but I think now that I've transitioned, it's been interesting to explore this more. Am I wholly a man? Yes. Am I a man of multitudes? Yes. Do these multitudes contradict? Well, that depends on your definition of "contradiction"
