                    ❛  no, i DON’T. i’m not claiming to. but —-  ❜    she lets out an exasperated huff, tucking a loose strand of hair back behind her ear. she doesn’t understand lena. she doesn’t know how to interact with her. alex can already tell that they’re such fundamentally different people, but she wants to believe that it’s not that cut and dry, that there’s something in this girl, whoever she is, that’s familiar to alex.

                    she kind of reminds her of clarissa, in the most base sense. there’s the ANGER. lots of that. so much that it’s kind of hard to tell what else is there. she can’t blame her for it – she doesn’t know what caused it, but she’s wise enough to know that it was something that MATTERED. maybe if she knew, lena would be easier to understand. but then, she doubts lena even wants to be understood.

                    ❛  what ?  ❜    he glances down at the book in question – a plain green spiral-bound notebook with the word calculus scrawled messily across the front. he sees what the man is talking about immediately – a CACOPHONY of flowers and swirls and lines, intricate patterns of colorful dots and shapes. for a moment, he’s confused – after all, he didn’t draw that  (  he’s generally not the DOODLING type.  )  

                    but then he remembers. it was sunday last weekend, and alex had stopped by for a spontaneous visit right in the middle of his studying for two upcoming tests. at first, he was annoyed at her for INTERRUPTING him, but that didn’t last long. he loved spending time with his sister, even if that meant she’s drilling him on formulas or listening to him ramble about kinetic theory. even if that meant she was just sitting on his bed, playing around on her phone, while he silent worked on practice problems.

                    and at one point, while he was reading some inane passage, alex got her hands on his calculus notebook and a half dozen sharpies.

                    before now, he hadn’t taken a look at what she’d drawn. it’s a little sloppy – alex has NEVER CLAIMED to be an artist – but that doesn’t stop him from staring at it, following the entangled lines of her design with his eyes, studying the picture. he misses her already, just a little. just enough.
