Vetinari's Patricianate pulled it off, by the way. After the revolution, slowly, over many years of civil service.
The Times (truth), the remade Watch (justice),
“I'm sure we can pull together, sir.” Lord Vetinari raised his eyebrows. “Oh, I do hope not, I really do hope not. Pulling together is the aim of despotism and tyranny. Free men pull in all kinds of directions.” He smiled.
+ the directions things are going with golems, goblins and orcs (freedom), the Seamstress' Guild (reasonably priced love), and a hard-boiled egg.

"’As I recall, they used to sing it after battles,’ he said. ‘I’ve seen old men cry when they sing it,’ he added.
‘Why? It sounds cheerful.’
They were remembering who they were not singing it with, thought Vimes. You'll learn. I know you will.”

Every step I choose to take begins to set the world aflame!
And the soldiers march behind me,
I can hear them beat their spears!
And for the first time in all my life,
I know I'm more than what I fear!
Happy Glorious 25th of May!

"Boo."
Happy Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May to all who observe.
Like last year, I opted to do a redraw of an old drawing from 2020; a companion piece to my previous drawing, a redraw from 2019. Night Watch is a good context to revisit the past and look at how I've evolved.
Rise up!

But what could you say? Sorry you're dead? Keel had originally died on the barricades, not in a street fight. But he was just as dead, all the same.

He took another sip of his cocoa. It was only lukewarm now, but along with the cigar it meant that both his hands were occupied. That was important. He wasn't holding a weapon. No one could say afterwards that he had a weapon.

So does anyone else look back at Reg Shoe's silly characterisation in Reaper Man and look at it through the lens of him suffering from survivor's guilt as the only lilac revolutionary to rise up after death and then cry, or is it just me?

“He wanted to go home. He wanted it so much that he trembled at the thought. But if the price of that was selling good men to the night, if the price was filling those graves, if the price was not fighting with every trick he knew … then it was too high.
It wasn’t a decision he was making, he knew that. It happened far below the levels of the brain where decisions were made. It was something built in. There was no universe, anywhere, where a Sam Vimes would give in on this, because if he did then he wouldn’t be Sam Vimes, anymore.”
And this is one of dozens of reasons Sam Vimes is the best. All he has to do to get back to his life, his family, is let history play out as it once did. And he can’t. Plain and simple. He can’t let people die while he can maybe do something about it.
A Glorious 25th of May to you all.

Well, well, it’s the glorious 25th of May again, so here you are, there’s some Ank-Morporkian posters here. Hope you like them.
(Spent around 40 hours on these two, so I’ll be really glad if you let me know what’s you think!)
P.S. Some details I intended to show, but have no idea if I managed to, so that’s a description.
— Havelock looks at Keel's face, not at the slogan, because for him, the person is more important for him than the function. Keel, however, looks into the distance.
— Vimes looks at the slogan, as if uninterested in who performs the function, only in what the function is. Vetinari, however, looks at him from the poster. The Patrician sees everything and everyone, remember?
— The poster with Keel is drawn dynamically, like the revolution that turned everything upside down in one day. The young Havelock’s cloak is also caught in the wind. But the poster with Vetinari is completely static, with straight lines and a strict front. A stable, let's say "sober" composition, like everything about the Patrician.
— The places where the lilac is worn match between the observer and the person on the poster.
— Keel-Sam here is at his most mature form, with a lot of gray hair, around 46-47 years old. Although Vetinari here is quite young, at most 40. It's actually implied that this timeline is before the events of the first book, so Vimes is still just the captain of the miserable Night Watch. I know that usually in my fanarts, he has long hair during the first two books, but here I've given him a more "mature" hairstyle for the sake of character recognition. Lol.
