What the weather will do on New Year's Day across Australia 2025

Australians hoping to celebrate the first day of the new year basking in the sunshine or taking a dip in the ocean are in luck.

While rain and storms have moved in over some parts of Western Australia and parts of eastern Queensland and New South Wales, most capital cities are set to enjoy warm temperatures and clear skies.

FAMOUS INDIGENOUS ARTIST: TANYA TAGAQ-GILLIS.

Tanya Tagaq-Gillis is an Inuk throat singer, rapper, experimental musician, painter, and author born in Ikaluktutiak (Cambridge Bay, Nunavut).

Tagaq-Gillis is primarily known for her throat singing-- although the technique is normally done in pairs, she had to learn it on her own because she didn't have a partner. Tanya Tagaq-Gillis gained international recognition for her duet with Bjork on her album, Medúlla, released in 2004. She has since won a Juno Award, been inducted into the Order of Canada, and received the Polaris Music Prize.

Not to mention, she also won many honorary doctorates! Through her music, she promotes social justice and human rights. Many of her songs address injustices against Indigenous Peoples, gender-based violence, and climate change!
