Bit of an art dump with some Fern content. I didn't get enough Fern fill in the new series tbh so I started hypothesizing a scenario where she and Itchy could meet? So, in this version of things, this is a Fern that gets re-cursed/re-grassed after Fionna restores the magic in her world, and Itchy tries to find a way to make her human again. Turns out they have more in common than I initially expected. When I connected the two, I realized they actually make for a fun parallel, like Fionna and Simon do.

(this is obviously many many years AFTER Itchy's adventure with that AU Betty I just don't have the braincells to finish a single plotline so I'm making y'all jump around with me. I'll make a proper timeline of events eventually, <3)

whats aura up to?

Trying to control the potential robot uprising due to a heavily glitchy code. Something about if knowing someone could die if you do nothing, is that letting someone come to harm? She gets accused of kidnapping Metis in “exchange for a proper trial.” Since it’s an edgy Au, she originally suspected that Simon was dead, Edgeworth style.

Widget basically is there as a way for Metis to communicate, since I headcanon her difficulties with people being a mix of autism and misunderstanding English. The mask and widget basically translates everything for her. She’s a prosecutor because she simply wants to bring the man who did this down with her.

My favorite thing is the mask, we originally chose the Fox because it just looked cool but also how we wanted the story to be about greyness. And Foxes are typically associated with contradictions. It was going to be her Noh mask but I doubt she would wear something that “captured spirits evil enough to kill Athena”.

Anti   (Usually the softer kind, has green emerald glowings eyes which turn staticy blue when hes vulnerable/being open/himself. He can be an asshole though and does in deed take out bad guys with his knife.)

Jameson Jackson  (Mute but does actually still have a voice- his vocals are in ruins and he's kinda dealing with poor eating making him dangerously skinny. He works as a bartender and has silver tipped brown hair that's a little bit longer than the others.)

Crank  (Robot Ethan ego. He’s an utter mess- eyes sometimes fizzle out, joints stiff, has emotional issues. He also has a corrupted voice in his head that is real nasty when he pops up and sometimes takes over their shared frame.)

Blank  (Fricking soft boy, his aura is hard to control and sometimes controls him. He has a rare heart issues which makes him prone to fainting and collpasing without much warning.  Still, he tries.) 

Jackieboyman   (Super hero boy! Super buff, caring, kind, and tol.  Lilac/Gold eyes. Little odd strip of red in his brown hair. The best voice.  Works as a gas station worker to hide his identity (he looks great in the blue button up and glasses.) He.’s ftm trans. King of the Squirrels   (Otherwise known as Simon. He’s a hybrid, Tail, ears. Omega. Very sweet, little skittsh and frzzled. Wears glasses and cozy sweaters- likes making nests and being out in nature. Loves PB but is actually allergic..doesn’t keep him from eating it though.)

Henrick Von Schneeplestien  (Grumpy german doctor who lives off of coffee. He is willing to assist those in need and really needs to sleep.)

He’s been through alot of angst and trauma and some really nasty stuff ^^’ (He killed his parents, the ice cream truck driver tried to abduct him, he was experimented on in a very bad place, and now he's an utter wreck who will cling to anyone who gives him the time of day. He has murder tenancies but is full of guilt and hates whenever he hurts anyone. Lots of panics. Very hard to handle if you aren’t patient.)

The words "pop music" are often frowned upon in the independent music circuit, where authenticity above anything is emphasized. However, between the many loose definitions of what is means to be "pop", labeling pop music as simply overproduced and polished is misleading. While pop music implies a certain perfection, it also implies a pursuit to create both easily-digestible and accessible sounds that can be enjoyed by all. Whether or not these sounds may conform to what has already been tried and tested is for the most part irrelevant. This latest blog digest is a tribute to the artists who are unabashedly pop, proving there is little wrong with music for unpretentious ears.     

Afrodile Trane - In a Sentimental Groove Hailing from Minneapolis, the Berklee school alumni Afrodile Trane spills over a velvety gloss of her soul slick. Moving away from the smoke-filled dank of other loungy tracks, “In a Sentimental Groove” is remarkably floral, glowing with burnished brass and the blossom of Afrodile’s sweet smooth.

Annie Hart - I Don’t Want Your Love

Though the sisterhood of Au Revoir Simone has since been put on hold, member Annie Hart still carries the flame of the Brooklyn trio. With its bittersweet melancholy, the track beats to the metronome of its glitchy Casio pop in a track whose title is very much self-explanatory. Against the glowing hum of its buzzing synths and the sweet huskiness of Hart’s vocals, Annie explains the inspiration behind her latest track “I Don’t  Want Your Love”:

This song, like many songs on the record, is about a horrible relationship I was in when I was younger that formed my perception of myself for years. It was awful, and the scars of his cutting words haunted me long past the time they should have, and I was beating myself up over being so stupid for being involved with someone like that. When I was writing this song, I noticed the fog of those days had finally lifted, and I realized I finally, and foremost, forgave myself for being with a manipulator, and also was proud of having moved on and happy with myself as I am, as I was before those days began.

I wanted the music to reflect my feelings at the time and how I’ve moved forward: kind of a suspended animation and a recycling, moving back and forth, a tension and a lifting. The intertwining drones and delayed electric piano to me describe that feeling, a little sickening but also captivating. It turned out to be one of my favorite songs on the record, simple and honest.

Giungla - Cold

Bologna-based Emanuela Drei draws her inspiration from the jungle, and that's exactly what her stage name means in Italian. GIUNGLA, like her name suggests is a wild jumble of sharply contrasting sounds textures with the beauty of her latest track "Cold" captured within her artistic ecosystem. It's a track whose roots are pop yet roars with a little bit of riot grrl as Ema rips through the fuzz-filled distortion of the single. Echoing those sentiments, Emanuela had this to say about "Cold":

“I like to think of it as a simple pop song but flipped upside down so that the textures fill it with tenseness and anxiousness. I guess it’s pretty cynical lyrically, and I wanted to keep the music to have that feeling charged, yet simple and full.”

Joy Downer - Goddamnit

While duo Joy Downer of Joy Bishop and Jeffrey Downer typically make twee with glee, their latest tones down on their typical cheer. On “Goddamnit”, bluesy guitar glides over the whimper of Joy’s childlike glow while the Los Angeles-based singer finds herself wide-eyed and still in her latest video.

Keep Shelley in Athens - Seattle

The mysterious Greek duo of Keep Shelly in Athens, return with a new track and this time with an ode to America’s Pacific Northwest on “Seattle”. A slice from their third record, the track features a new voice,  Australia’s novelist and poet Jessica Bell, the third since the departure of Sarah Psalti and most recently, “Myrtha”. Featuring the operatic glow from the vocals of Jessica Bell, the track like their previous others, is suspended of a dreamy float of lofty synths and cinematic piano key ambiance.

Kelsey Bulkin - Andromeda

“Andromeda” is the debut track from Kelsey Bulkin who recently stepped aside from her former duo Made in Heights to focus on her solo work. After her departure from her alma mater, Bulkin found herself in shambles and it’s the lonely resonance of the “Andromeda” where we find the quiet flame of Kelsey kindling. Soft and delicate, the restraint of the track echoed through its lo-fi and minimal backings hide the beautiful dream which Kelsey had been witholding inside all this time as she explains: 

“‘Andromeda’ is about sifting through emotional debris, abandoning worlds I built, and finding my way home. Writing this song cemented the idea of producing a solo project, a dream I’ve had for a long time.”

Liyv - Hot Lights

Coming off bolder and more confident is "Hot Lights", the latest track from the reinvigorated sound of Olivia Holman, the Pacific Northwest native and dedicated plant hobbyist who goes by the name of Liyv. A change from the timid twee of her pastel pop, soft coos and synthetic detune bounce to the quirk and slink in her latest show of force. Proving that her floraphilia is very much true and real, Liyv wrote the track after being inspired by nature. To put it simply she wrote the song about "the bird of paradise I fell in love with in a Home Depot parking lot".

Isn't that just lovely to admire the simple things in life like the birds and flowers?

Moglii - Away from Me

A frequent collaborator with his German counterpart NOVAA, Moglii produces warm, glowing electronica while capturing the essence of an indie-pop organic. A slice from his EP "Naboo", Moglii's "Away from Me" is a dedication to those sounds, providing a little sweet with sour.  Soft, marshmallow-like textures of gooey synths and the alternating pace of its vocal slows, are cohesive built around heavy-clef beats in the odd comforts of his hypnotic prose. Written about the gradual decline of a relationship, the German artist had this to say:

'Away From Me' is about an elapsed relationship. I intended to express a feeling of being faint, and sing about lost illusions. t's very much about movement in this song. The edgy verse then leads into a halftime refrain, in which all the accrued emotions can be seen to be discharging. To me it's a melancholic, but simultaneously harmonious song."

Slow Skies - Dancing

Slow Skies is the moniker of Dublin-based artist Karen Sheridan, who through her latest track "Dancing" recreates that quintessential twee pop sound. Light and airy, the sweetness of her voice is matched up against the proverbial tambourine clang, burnished brass and a gentle piano twinkle as the cherry on top. Written on a hot summer day in Dublin, a break from the usual rain and gloominess, Karen wanted the song to be a feel-good track as she notes,

"It's all about nudging people to think about whatever it is that makes them feel good and just feel happy in that moment. I want this song to be three minutes where they get away from it all, where nothing else matters. I actually wrote most of the lyrics blindfolded so it was really all about how they made me feel inside, with all the other sensory distractions stripped away."

Sorcha Richardson - 4AM

Like Liyv, Sorcha Richardson takes a break from her more natural and organically produced sounds on her latest track “4 AM”. Against the blocky rasp of keys and her honey-dripped, singer-songwriter vocal, the track walks a fuzzy line between the synthesized and organic. Spilling out through her confessions, “4AM” is about the cathartic feeling when letting go.

JOURNAL ENTRY XXX "You won’t BELIEVE what I’m about to write! Recently I’ve moved back into my hometown to find more information on the whereabouts of my research and why it's been kept hidden from public eye. However, upon my arrival, I noticed something particularly disturbing: an apparition. Some glowing, ghost-like creature that fizzled in appearance and walked among men. What particularly struck me about this thing is that, well… it looked exactly like me! Or, a much older-looking me. But WHY me?! How long has this thing been in my hometown impersonating me? I don’t have an answer for that and, due to the risky nature of my investigation putting me at odds with government officials, I don’t want to make a scene about it. I suppose all I can do for now is keep track of its whereabouts and figure out its motives. But it mustn’t know I’m watching it. I wonder if it has anything to do with the investigation I’m conducting. This could either be a magnificent discovery… or foreboding of a conflict to come in my near future."

Something of a side-development during Itchy's time in that Betty's universe. Turns out she has a Simon of her own (though they haven't met... yet...). Will Itchy's interference ruin their destined meeting? Only time will tell...

I mostly just wanted to play with the aesthetic and it suddenly developed story?? And lore?? And I've been doodling him for over a month now?? I'm a mess LOL...

SOME SUUUPER EARLY ITCHY CONCEPT DOODLES I NEVER POSTED HERE JHDJHDSJHS (including some before I finalized his design!). The bottom one is supposed to demonstrate how he feels being synchronized to time / the Time Core at the very beginning. (I expressed it kinda feels like this, with the speed-ups lining up with the hammer impacts and the slow downs being the period between swings). He eventually gets used to it, but the first few days / weeks are a lil rough on him.

HEHEHE ABSOLUTELY!! I have a lot of Itchy stuff on the back-burner I'd be happy to talk about while I doodle up new Winter stuff! :D I actually have MORE itchy art/lore than Winter lore surprisingly it's just... really scattered and needs a lot of explaining dhsghfdsja... but we'll disperse it in small chunks...

This is his current main ref (kinda wanna update it tho bc there's some things about it that I don't like anymore).

Aaaaaaand a little bit of info I can give on him:

After the events of the failed ritual, this Simon is no longer human, but he's also not aware of this. He's a cosmic entity behaving like a human-shaped portal. Very in-tune with time and space and super sensitive to it's changes and flows.

Is made of a VERY powerful energy and suffers from MMS again. However, because he clings to his sanity as an anchor, his usable magic is limited (needs magitech to access most of it).

He's not glitching 24/7, although it takes him effort to keep himself from glitching. Physical pain and mental/emotional stress will cause him to lose stability.

He can time-travel AND universe hop, but hasn't figured out how to control the destination. If he glitches too hard, he will go full portal mode and teleport into a random universe and a random time period (if you touch him, you will teleport with him).

Has "future memory" which functions similar to past memory. He can recall events (within his own timeline) that haven't happened as if they've already occurred. This memory isn't perfectly clear and he's NOT all knowing. Gets memories of the future mixed up with those of the past (I read the Enchiridon's page on Amok Time/Multiverse stuff and got a bit inspired).

And that's all the info I'll give for now! I'll definitely be sharing more about him / his story in the future. I just haven't drawn or written a lot of it out besides scattered doodles that might be hard to understand without full context. I have a little Betty scenario that will be posted soon, but in the meantime I hope this is satisfying!! :)

"In a twist of fate, I found you again..."

Some artwork inspired by some story stuff for my Glitchy Simon AU. Unfortunately the file got accidentally deleted before I finished it,,,, thankfully, I took a screenshot, but it still pains me bc I WASN'T DONE...

A lil story blurb + related doodles under the cut:

For several days, Simon had been wandering in this universe that looked uncomfortably close to the world he left behind over a thousand years ago (give or take a handful of historical details here or there). Betty living there crossed his mind, and while he knew pursuing her was a horrid idea, he... he couldn't help himself. He wanted to see her so bad, even if he knew it wasn't actually her, y'kno? Just... to see her as a normal, happy human again could satisfy himself enough to live his days in peace. At some point he was able to locate her and caught a glimpse of her from a distance. And, with this simple gesture, he found himself... content...

However... fate had a different plan as she caught sight of him too, setting the stage for things soon to come...

That first meeting went insignificantly enough for Simon to not think much of it. She didn't recognize him? Had the Simon of this world not met her yet? Well, even better! He could simply give himself a fake name and walk away from her life with hope to leave it at that. But, to his dismay, they kept running into each other by accident: on the street... in the shops... at the fated library. He was no longer a blip to be forgotten in her memory, but an acquaintance... one that was making an impact on her. Not Good...

It was only a matter of time before she found out.. she knew she wasn't going crazy when she caught sight of the faint blue glow and strange ear-piercing static she heard standing next to him. No, something was off with this one. Her roommate scoffed at the suggestion, but she had to know. Who was this man, really? And why did standing next to him fill her with a dread she couldn't explain?

Soon... he was cornered. Left with no other choice but the truth, he told her about who he really was and why he was here. She couldn't help but feel... sad. So sad for him. She didn't know why, but her heart yearned to do something about it. But that was the LEAST thing Simon wanted…

Hey, in your glitchy simon au, what happened to Choose Goose? Did he die?

Well… technically yes, but it's a bit more complicated than that…

Choose Goose himself is dead, but his shredded magical particles got fumbled into Simon's shredded particles. Simon was able to survive because of this fusion (and because of... another reason I might reveal later…). This doesn’t affect his day to day life, because his magic is passive, but if he were to tap into that dark magic and utilize it, it could irreparably corrupt him. Choose Goose turned dark because of the Ichor of Coconteppi. Having that influence active in Simon’s brain can cause a LOT of problems…

And unfortunately… it does! That’s where the “I need to stop future me from going bonkers and turning evil” arc comes into play! Which I have NOT touched on here, but maybe I will… I am a bit biased to it, unsurprisingly.

Moral of the story: don’t eat evil goose /j
