The thing about Salineas being Tortuga made me think of lil teen Mermista having to fight like 50 contenders to the throne after her father died

And lil' Glimmer in Bright Moon hearing about it and going "Moooom, can i marry the sea princess?"

Oh shit, I love that!

And Angella is all... "Honey, I don't think..." but lil' Glimmer is all "MARRY BADASS PIRATE-PRINCESS NOW!" and it kinda IS expected of Angella to pay the new queen of Salineas a royal visit and it WOULD be strange to not include the crown princess of Brightmoon, so full of misgivings she allow Glimmer to tag along, and Glimmer is in full PrincessProm-mode in her prettiest dress and she has made Mermista a necklace of seashells and has made a drawing of how badass they will look together on the throne...

...and after like a million years of royal protocol bullshit they are finally let into the throne room and Glimmer is suddenly shy, but she still walks up to the Very Cool girl sitting with her trident on the throne of Salineas, and she manage to hand over her gifts with trembling hands and mumble her proposal, that suddenly doesn't sounds as cool as when she practiced it with Bow, and Mermista glances at the drawing and the necklace, looks Glimmer in the eyes and says...

...'whatever'.

And Glimmer just DIES of heartbrake and shame and rejection and locks herself into her room and refuse to come out for the rest of the trip.

(Fortunately, it turns out that she overhears some Salinean Bad Guys plot against the new queen, and full of indignation she head out to stop them, and she bumpss into Mermista who just happened to be in that part of the castle for whatever reason. She didn't feel bad about rejecting the Brightmoon Princess, shut up, and together they set out to stop the bad guys, and together they get even deeper into trouble, and they end up kidnapped or something, but just as every hope seems to be lost Mermista sends a seagull to get Sea Hawk and Bow and they have a wholeass adventure together and Sea Hawk tries to sing but Mermista pushes him in the sea and Glimmer and Mermista has a heartwarming scene as they sit on the deck of the sinking ship of the Bad Guys together looking into the sunset and Mermista says that Glimmer is 'pretty cool or whatever' and Glimmer has never felt as proud as then and they decide that even if they don't marry they can at least be kickass friends together.)

Adora: Same.

Bow: Me too.

Catra: What? Why is everyone in love with Sparkles?

Mermista: Come on, get with the times. Everyone's in love with Twinkle.

Glimmer: Her part of the pact involves her opening a portal to hell and we need to stop her

Catra: Well that is shame. Adora, how about we go on a little trip somewhere else? Maybe northern Canada. I hear they’re experiencing entire weeks of night time right now

Adora: Catra!

Catra: What?

Adora: We’re not abandoning our town, our friends and my territory

Catra: Are you sure?

Adora: Catra

Glimmer: “If you have none, your patron will ask someone else to pay the Debt for you“ Oh crap

GM: Mermista, would your character owe a Debt to a dark lord if it meant bringing her girlfriend back to life

Mermista: Ugh probably

GM: Good news, Glimmer. You’re not dead

Glimmer: Oh awesome. Can’t wait for that to backfire terribly

GM: So let’s start the is session off well. Glimmer your character found out they’re not dead

Glimmer: What the fuck? How did I...?

Mermista: Your boss helped me bring you back

Glimmer: Oh no

Mermista: Relax, it’s not that bad. At least you’re not dead

Glimmer: But now you’re in debt to them

Mermista: So what? It’s not like I’m gonna help them take over the world or something

GM: Mermista, your phone rings as soon as you say that

Glimmer: SEE!?

GM: Sea Hawk, how about you?

Sea Hawk: Is my character still hungover?

GM: I’m gonna say no

Sea Hawk: Then I’m gonna call Mermista and ask her about her date with Glimmer

GM: *sigh* We should just be playing Monster Hearts

Another Chance

Fuck this took so long to write. Much longer than it had any right to, but apparently being at home all day means I can’t be productive to save my life.

As usual normal text for in game stuff and italics for real life stuff

Anyway onward with the big finale

Fire surrounded Mermista on every side as the building crumbled. Falling debris just narrowly missing her. She could stop this, protect herself just long enough to make her way out, but doing so would mean letting the portal fall and she couldn’t afford to do that.

“Mermista!” Glimmer’s voice called, distorted by her demonic form. The being of ash and purple flame landed between Mermista and the hell portal “You have to stop this!”

“You know I can’t” Mermista argued back. Her usual bored demeanor completely crushed by the strain and replace by genuine frustration and worry “I can’t let you die!”

“I'm not worth more than the whole world” Glimmer pleaded. Her body slowly returning to her mortal form “Please don’t do this”

“You are to me!” She cried “What is the point of a world where the most amazing person in it is gone?” Mermista couldn’t focus on her right now, she had to keep her mind on that spell, on keeping the portal open.

“It’s still a world worth giving a chance” Glimmer begged, her voice barely audible over the roaring flames. She took Mermista’s face in her hands and looked in her eyes as she spoke again“You gave it a chance when you thought it wasn’t worth living anymore, you gave it a chance when you thought you’d never find someone who understood you, and I’m begging you to give it another chance”

“Are you okay there?” Adora asked. 

“I’m fine” Mermista answered, dismissively “Let’s get back to the scene!”

“It just looked that you were going to cry there for a second” Adora explained, genuinely caring.

“Y-Yeah?....Well...” Mermista stuttered, unsure of how to answer

“My dear Mermista has simply taken some acting classes with me and is showing her amazing skill in action” Sea Hawk jumped in, saving Mermista from embarrassment. Though she’d never admit to that.

“See? I’m just a natural at fake crying” Mermista played along “Now can we get this thing done already?”

“I’ll miss you” Mermista admitted

“I’ll miss you too” Glimmer echoed, giving her one last kiss.

And with that gesture Mermista’s focus dropped and the portal fizzled out. She had failed her part of the bargain and so the demon would take away theirs. When next she opened her eyes Glimmer was gone.

Reality seemed to ripple like waves in a pond as Mermista’s next spell displaced her to the outside of the now ruined building. She was covered in ash and there were tears in her eyes, but she kept marching onward, keeping herself strong.

Until she felt arms wrapping around her. First it was Sea Hawk, then Adora and after a pause there was Catra. They had all come here knowing they’d lose a friend. They’d all lost Glimmer that day and they’d all chosen to keep going anyway. Mermista would do the same, for her, she would give the world another chance.

Still she held her friends in her arms and wept.
