One fascinating thing about HBO’s Oz is looking at all the extras and main characters and figuring out their social circles within Em City and reactions to events. And even some throwaway dialogue and facial expressions tell you so much about the characters.
Like, Ryan O’Reily hung out with Beecher, Hill and Rebadow A LOT. He didn’t involve any of them in his schemes, nor did he target them for anything. He didn’t need to be around them for political purposes. He seemed to actually enjoy their company. Beecher and Ryan were pretty friendly for almost the entire series, barring that one episode in Season 4. Every time it showed something bad happening to Beecher, Ryan has a disgusted look on his face and even tried to wake him up when Beecher was sleeping off a hang over in season 2. Adebisi even shielded Ryan from Robson twice during Ryan’s little skirmishes with the Aryans in the kitchen.
Then there’s Timmy Kirk, before he went full on insane with his religious fanaticism. They way he introduces Patrick Keenan to Ryan and keeps throwing glances at him makes it seem like he did this as a favor to Ryan, knowing how he felt about Gloria. Introducing the guy and telling him he was the one who raped Dr. Nathan all but guaranteed Patrick’s death.
Beecher seemed pretty friendly with the Italians even before his deal with Pancamo. He was cheerfully playing basket ball with Zanghi and the others before he was told about his children being kidnapped. Beecher in general appeared to be, if not respected, liked by a number of inmates who weren’t with the Bikers and Aryans.
Bob Rebadow had butted heads and disagreed with Kareem Said in almost every conversation they had together, yet he was horrified when he learned of his death. He was also one of the few people who always treated Beecher well and seemed to care about his well being. Well, as much as he could bring himself to, considering how he’s seen so many prisoners come and go. When Beecher returned after his arms and legs were broken, he actually Rebadow actually touches Hill as if to alert him on his return and even says “hello Tobias”.
Vincent D'Arbouze, the poor lad who was Adebisi’s prag always hung around the Christians, probably seeking solace and comfort in Christianity.
Even someone as lame as Glen Shupe was seen hanging around Liam Meaney, Ryan and Cyril in a number of scenes. Cloutier hung around Beecher and Ryan. Busmalis and Rebadow would occasionally sit down with Fiona and Tony Masters etc.
Man, say what you want about Oz and the writing, but it truly was a unique show in the way it was filmed. Everyone had to be consistent and in character regardless if they were the main focus of the scene or not. They had to time everything right wherever a scene took place and sometimes you’d have so much going on in a single shot/take. It’s amazing. No show has done it since, at least to my knowledge.

Anson Mount interview about filming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Speaking to RadioTimes.com while promoting his new movie The Virtuoso, Anson Mount said the following about Strange New Worlds:
- It wasn't something he'd expected – he'd believed Pike was a "one-season gig" – but has been delighted to return, particularly after such a warm reception from fans.
- He was still high on the pleasure of being back at work three months into production. "I was telling our costume designer earlier today, I was at home for a year," he laughs. "The last time I was home for a year was my junior year in high school. Everyone's glad to be back at work."
- Inevitably things aren't quite as Mount had anticipated when Strange New Worlds was first proposed. "COVID [protocol] makes everything take longer," he admits, "but you get through it and it's weird trying to get to know my cast only on set." However, despite everything, "it's been one of the smoothest starts I think I've ever had in television."
- Mount's joined by Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck reprising their roles as the enigmatic Number One, aka Una, and Spock from Discovery, and the general familiarity is helped by the fact that Strange New Worlds shares some of the production personnel with Discovery. "That has worked to our benefit," he notes, "not just with the world and the material, but interpersonally, with this production company and these producers."
- He takes his place as number one on the call sheet seriously, as much a captain off-screen as on. "Normally I'd be throwing barbecues and we'd be going to the park and you can't do much of that right now, particularly during the lockdown in Ontario but we're surviving."
- The shoot in Toronto is about halfway through its first season, which is expected to air in 2022 after the next seasons of animated series Lower Decks and Discovery. "We're really happy with the material," Mount points out. "We're all having a good time together."
+ some extra news: Director of episode 2, Maja Vrvilo (who previously directed eps of Discovery and Picard, and the Short Trek ep "Runaway"), announced her involvement on Twitter on May 1 2021, posting a couple non-spoilery pictures from the set that show a Strange New Worlds clapper-board and the director's computer.
Written on the clapper-board are the episode number ("102" aka 1x02), the date April 26 2021, and the name of the cinematographer Glen Keenan who also worked on episodes of Discovery and two Short Treks, including "Q&A" that ties to Strange New Worlds. Fans are speculating that episodes are being filmed out of order because the clapper-board indicates the tv series is currently shooting episode 2, yet Akiva Goldsman and three other directors appear to have already directed their episodes.
- Earlier in April, a production crew member (mechanical engineer) shared a photo of their production vehicle (with a Strange New Worlds sign on it), tweeting, "Never a dull moment living in Toronto. Apparently I get the same burritos as the crew of the Enterprise."
- Anson Mount also tweeted about the music being played on set, calling it the "on-set playlist", which includes Steve Earle, Gerry Rafferty, Del McCoury Band, Motörhead, AC/DC, Prince, and others!

Oh man it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Thanks for tagging me @moonlight-prose!
Nickname: I go by Moose on here but Snache is one I’ve had from family for as long as I can remember. Otherwise I just get lame shortenings of my name a lot 😂
Pronouns: she/her
Star sign: Sagittarius (I never know how to spell that)
Height: 5′7
Time currently: 7:44am it’s coffee time babyyyyy
Birthday: December 20th
Favorite groups/bands: Too many to choose from!!! Pearl Jam, Temple of The Dog, Mad Season, The Frames, CCR, The Band, Steppenwolf, CSNY, The Walkmen, anything with Jack White in it because hes in a lot of great bands, Cream, The Decemberists, Death Cab For Cutie, Fleetwood Mac and many more that I’m missing
Favorite solo artist: Mick Flannery, Hozier, David Keenan, Glen Hansard, Eddie Berman, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Rodríguez, Father John Misty, Laura Marling, Joni Mitchell, Lisa Hannigan, god I know I’m missing so many amazing ones too
Song stuck in my head: Boys in the Better Land - Fontains D.C.
Last movie you watched: Oh god I don’t even know. I was watching snippets of Prospect for my infographic but I think the last one I watched all the way through might have been Unbreakable
Last show you binged: Star Wars Rebels because I’m addicted to Star Wars content apparently 😂
When you created your blog: My original one? I think it was 2015 but I didn’t really use it that much until 2016 and this one was exactly one year ago tomorrow! Spooky timing there!
Last thing I googled: Jaig Eyes
Other blogs: I have a fair few. My main is @just—a—snail, I have an old Pearl Jam fan account called @pearljamstuff which I haven’t been very active on lately, I have a semi-abandoned studyblr @mokastudies that I pop up on every once in a while when I decide I want to attempt being aesthetic™️ and this one for all things Star Wars and Pedro Pascal related
Why I chose my url: I found the idea of Ezra’s sentient arm off voyaging the world and blogging its life story funny so I rolled with it 😂
Do you get asks: Sometimes! And I love them but I’m afraid I’m slipping behind on replies cause I’ve been tangled up in school work and when it gets full (which in my book is anything more than five asks) I get freaked out and avoid it. It has nothing to do with you guys I’m just irrationally afraid of it at the moment
How many people you are following: almost 400 😂 because all of my very random interests in side blogs are connected to one main it’s a little messy and I’ve gotta clean it out cause it’s no longer a representation of my interests
How many followers: 1,200 👀 i don’t understand it either
Average hours of sleep: My cat ensures that I have a very consistent sleep schedule. I’ve gotta be up between 6:30 or 7 otherwise he thinks he’s gonna starve to death. I’d say it’s usually between 6-8 depending on how late I stay up scrollin’
Lucky number: I have no idea but when I thought about it the number 7 just popped up in my head so I’m gonna roll with it
Currently wearing: Sweat pants and a hoodie cause I just rolled out of bed
Dream job: People keep asking me this and I don’t know. Anything in a creative field sounds good to me. I think it would be very groovy to write screenplays though
Dream trip: A road trip around the ring road in Iceland or a tour through Ireland and the UK because I have a lot of friends over there that I miss dearly
Favorite food: Does coffee count? I have no idea, I just generally enjoy most food. Any kind of pie, a good Thai green curry, anything I can top with cilantro and lime—this all sounds simultaneously very vague and specific. The short answer is give me food and I’ll be happy.
Favorite song: I can not for the life of me try to answer this question but at the moment I’m really into a cover of Dear Prudence by Jerry Garcia
Top 3 fictional worlds to live in: I love this question! Star Wars, Prospect, Asgard but not even like the marvel comics one like the crazy one from actual Norse mythology cause shit gets wild in there
Tagging (but hey, no pressure): @ghostlyshadow @kiss-evans @alwaysbethewest @rebelhan @clone-rambles
