What do you think brittana was like after the auditorium scene in 4x22, together and separately, during the rest of that day, what do you think was going through each of their minds etc etc

I was gonna say I swear I've covered post-4x22 but on a larger timescale not later that day so I appreciate this v much. Love me some 4x22 Brittana thoughts.

From Santana's pov I think it was a quiet "defeat" - because Brittany was going away and she looked at this as the true end of their relationship. Technically, Britt was going to be closer to where Santana is in New York but it's more of a symbolic distance than a physical one. Brittany going to MIT and now leaving Lima just as Santana did signifies the end of an era. As weird as this might sound, I think part of Santana felt like she also belonged at McKinley as long as Brittany was still there. Their breakup wasn't "official" and she kept going back whenever Finn asked with the not so lowkey goal of seeing Brittany. I guess they have the official breakup in Diva, if not sooner, but this is different. Brittany is ultimately choosing to embark on the MIT journey and so their paths diverge for real now. And Santana's happy for her, as the person who always believed in Britt and is there for her as a friend, but it must be a bittersweet feeling. I think this fits with the vibe we get from Santana at the start of season 5 and with Dani. She's come to terms with her and Britt being over (even though she will eventually jump back into a relationship with her) and this is the day she comes to that conclusion. As Santana helps Brittany up and they walk off together, it's a closing moment for both of them. Exit stage right.

For Brittany, obviously her life is being uprooted. The world is suddenly full of possibilities for someone who'd been told over and over again she was too dumb to go anywhere. And she panicked, understandably so, but Santana served as her anchor through it and so Brittany took a deep breath and decided to take that step towards adulthood. I think her relationship with Santana was part of what she was thinking about and afraid of letting go, though not all of it. In that quiet, perfect scene, Brittany sits down just after she wins her final show choir competition and looks over the stage. That was it. More than halfway through her second senior year she's finally being forced to let go and the one person who eases her into it, who non-verbally tells her it's gonna be okay is the same one Brittany had sent on her way just a couple months back. I'd wager they both briefly reflected on that moment in Diva. It's a different feeling for Brittany, naturally, and she's more focused on the bigger picture than Santana whose only point of connection to this is Brittany herself.

I'm not sure how coherent that was but tl;dr I think it's a bittersweet moment for them and scary particularly for Brittany but they look at it as the end of something old but the beginning of something new. In that moment, they kind of accept defeat in terms of their romantic relationship but 4x22 is also a great ep to showcase that they'll always be best friends first and foremost. I hope that's the kind of thing you were looking for. Also I'm not against the idea that they hooked up before they both left Lima lol.

My time has come.

I’ve done a few deep analysis on Brittany before. Both on here and for a few college classes. Brittany S. Pierce is the most complex character on Glee and I will die on this hill.

In a nutshell, Brittany is the Paris Hilton of Glee. If you’ve seen Paris’ documentary you know what I mean. If not, go watch it and I’ll try to explain the best I can.

Paris Hilton’s “that’s hot” voice is a character as she calls it. It manifested after a super traumatic even. She uses it to deflect from conflict with herself and others. Brittany does the same thing when she says outlandish things. It’s a defense mechanism. It’s a way of guarding yourself.

Santana Lopez is the only person who understands this about Brittany. I would assume she knows Brittany’s history and understands why she acts like the dumb blonde. Brittany regresses to childlike behavior when she’s scared or sad or there’s a lot of uncertainty.

In Britney 2.0 when Brittany goes off the rails, she’s doing so because her life has changed dramatically. She doesn’t have Santana with her all the time. She’s in a state of uncertainty and sadness so she does off the wall things to cope.

In 4x04 obviously Brittany and Santana break up which leads to Brittany acting out of character for basically the whole season. Why? She misses Santana and there is no one else on the planet who knows Brittany the way that Santana does.

In 4x22 when Brittany finds out she got into MIT and she has that meltdown, the only person who could have brought her back to earth was Santana which she did. Brittany breaks up with Sam and says that she misses her sweet lady kisses aka she misses Santana because Santana understands her.

In season 5, whenever she’s talking to Santana, she doesn’t regress all that much. She gives her that beautiful speech about how she wants to be with her and then the other speech about how Santana isn’t a loser if she quits Funny Girl. Why doesn’t she regress? She feels safe.

In 6x06 when Santana confronts Brittany about contacting her abuela, we see Brittany deflect for a line. “You came out to your abuela ten years ago.” Santana understands that Brittany is trying to deflect but Brittany knows Santana well enough to know that her antics won’t work on her so she explains herself to Santana.

This never happens with Sam or anyone else because whenever Brittany is with anyone else (platonic or romantic) she’s playing her character. She only allows Santana to see the true her. Everyone else just gets glimpses.

That is why Santana is Brittany’s true love. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Do you like Bram?

I absolutely hated them, I mean I always think that Sam was an awful boyfriend because they never spent time together, however that is technically good for me because they only had like 5 scenes together. I literally wretch when they come on screen, I just hate anyone dating Brittany thats not Santana.

I know I sound like a crazy person and they are not real but I just hate it.

No, I don't like Bram. I never liked Sam to begin with, I thought he was really annoying. And then when Brittany dated him, I'm ngl it was hard for me to like Brittany. Let me explain lol. She was dumber than usual when she was dating him to the point where it wasn't funny anymore. I didn't like it at all. It was cute and corky for the first few seasons but then it was just ridiculous in the 4th season when Brittany got with Sam. Brittany was more likeable, at least for me, when she was with Santana.

Do you think that Santana didn't let Brittany say goodbye to her in 4x22 because she knew it wasn't really goodbye for them?

That's how I always choose to look at it 🥰.

I'm sure I've touched on this before I just don't know when, ah well.

As far as I'm aware a lot of the fandom dislikes that we "didn't get anything" in that scene and like yeah I would have liked to hear Britt's speech to Santana but I think it's fitting that Santana stops her. "You don't have to say anything." I think knowing it's not goodbye is part of it, yeah, as opposed to that being the last time Bram ever interact rip well you won't see me weeping.

But I also think it's that instinctive understanding they have of each other. All or Nothing is such a good Brittana episode because through so little, even nonverbal things, it expresses so much about their dynamic and how well they get each other. And what they have, to be pretentious and cheesy about it, transcended Brittany's speech to others. I also think Santana, even at this point, is quite private with her and Brittany relationship (not romantic atm but still) and she couldn't bear to hear Brittany's words in public like that. Or even in private, really. She was already crying my god can you imagine her after Brittany closes this chapter of their lives for good. No, a wordless hug was the way to go. That, and their post-competition moment said it all. Damn, I love that moment and I can see why Naya did too.

I think Santana at this point had come to terms with her and Brittany not being together romantically so maybe it really wasn't as much the goodbye, just that she really felt like Britt didn't need to vocalize... all of it. Idk, I get where people come from when they lament the lack of a Brittana portion in Britt's speech but I also feel like this is exactly what elevates their moment. What's that quote, “If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.” Thanks, Jane, good quote.
