Modern Art Glass - Box Sculpture. 50" x 100" x 16" Illuminated Glass Art Lighting. This creative work of art was developed through a series of test experiments in our kiln, heat formed glass, slumped glass. The design is Light Sculpture - "In Flight" 2020 by Chris Reisert. It was a design for a local luxury build, a custom closet island light. Illuminated ceiling art... it is a primary focus for us and the options are endless. The "Box"? Glass, Light and Sculpture... Sure looks great together!!! This is my custom sculptural glass wall design lit with super intense LEDs. This wall is 8-feet wide, 11-feet tall and about a foot deep. It is 9 independent contoured ultra clear glass columns set cleverly into this opening between a foyer and formal dining room. It is 4,300+ lbs of custom glass. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!! Let’s just go with it... Colored Glass Slabs! This unique project is another fairly successful experiment. I am edge- match cutting chiseled glass as close as I possibly can, then cladding exquisite traditional stained glass to the bottom to give it a full color change. In doing this I have to work on the glass un-seamed, razor sharp... it was a bit bloody! Luxury Upgrade... Through the unique vision of the prominent Jamie Herzlinger, I was commissioned to create this unique set of crystal clear glass closet doors. She wanted something striking and organic and she knew I could deliver. She decided on this style of organic glass carving of mine, she knew it would be the perfect touch. These finished doors replaced the all too common mirrored closet doors, the ones where you can see the safety backing on the opposite side. These mirrors are best for closets you cannot walk in to. Before, in this walk-in closet, you were behind solid mirrored doors that were not so elegant... now you see beauty from all sides. Glass Artist???... Well,...No limits I say!!! Not this week, this week I whittled wood after hours. Partly to create a cool Father’s Day gift, also for some time to reflect and a time to express my Patriotism regardless of circumstances. Boy, have we all been tested lately. These are two symbols that I seriously value,... I thought they fit perfectly together here for my reasoning. Glass artist? I find in creating art, so many materials come into play,... to truly create, one cannot be limited to any one medium. I’ve become a metal smith, electrician, plumber, carpenter, painter and many other trades needed to produce and install my work. The variety is so stimulating!!! Technique... Refined and Perfected!!! There is no other way to deliver in my eyes... deliver your absolute best, every time. Yes, it takes way longer to do so, so what! Today is an exciting day for Glass. In fact last week was an exciting week leading up to this moment. I have a new job to create semi private windows for a luxury residence in the area. The design, which is an original, is something I free sketched in the moment when I started the conceptual ideas. This design has become a great overall design for the intended client and for me as the artist who created it. It started with just a few loose freehand strokes. This design I intend to present with two different techniques. Old World leaded glass, and a new contemporary bonded glass technique. The Old World technique is traditional lead came, putty and patina. Because it’s a contemporary design I’m using a variety of lead thicknesses, including 1/8” lead which is super challenging to use properly. The new bonded glass technique is none other than Bohle America’s silicone bonding system. @bohlegroup It is a premier bonding adhesive designed for joining glasses that are not perfectly smooth like this stained glass. These glasses, some of them, are very uneven. The Youghiogheny Stipple Ripple glass is some of the most difficult to cut perfectly. These samples are ready to present. Glass Molding... Whaaat??? Why??? Answer: Why not!!! This is the early concept phase of crazy. Crazy for whittling glass into moldings... Like a mad scientist I have my reasons, in time you will see why. So, in the photos you see the evolution of my madness. I strip cut a variety of thicknesses and widths of low- iron plate glass. I then stencil and carve them to the desired profiles. Then I bond them with an exceptional glass bonder @bohlegroup designed for permanent bonding of glass. Once bonded,... off to the wet room for the miter. Now, they and their base glass go to Susan Kent, a prominent Palm Beach artist well known for her mastery with everything related to paint, finishes, artistry, fine art, antiques and way more. Her scope of knowledge makes my head spin. She will antique and guild these pieces to look 100+ years old. This concept sample will become many things.
