Technique... Refined and Perfected!!! There is no other way to deliver in my eyes... deliver your absolute best, every time. Yes, it takes way longer to do so, so what! Today is an exciting day for Glass. In fact last week was an exciting week leading up to this moment. I have a new job to create semi private windows for a luxury residence in the area. The design, which is an original, is something I free sketched in the moment when I started the conceptual ideas. This design has become a great overall design for the intended client and for me as the artist who created it. It started with just a few loose freehand strokes. This design I intend to present with two different techniques. Old World leaded glass, and a new contemporary bonded glass technique. The Old World technique is traditional lead came, putty and patina. Because it’s a contemporary design I’m using a variety of lead thicknesses, including 1/8” lead which is super challenging to use properly. The new bonded glass technique is none other than Bohle America’s silicone bonding system. @bohlegroup It is a premier bonding adhesive designed for joining glasses that are not perfectly smooth like this stained glass. These glasses, some of them, are very uneven. The Youghiogheny Stipple Ripple glass is some of the most difficult to cut perfectly. These samples are ready to present. Glass Molding... Whaaat??? Why??? Answer: Why not!!! This is the early concept phase of crazy. Crazy for whittling glass into moldings... Like a mad scientist I have my reasons, in time you will see why. So, in the photos you see the evolution of my madness. I strip cut a variety of thicknesses and widths of low- iron plate glass. I then stencil and carve them to the desired profiles. Then I bond them with an exceptional glass bonder @bohlegroup designed for permanent bonding of glass. Once bonded,... off to the wet room for the miter. Now, they and their base glass go to Susan Kent, a prominent Palm Beach artist well known for her mastery with everything related to paint, finishes, artistry, fine art, antiques and way more. Her scope of knowledge makes my head spin. She will antique and guild these pieces to look 100+ years old. This concept sample will become many things.
