In Process Challenge - Impossible Cuts. Show in photos are an attempt to cut mirror in ways it does not want to cut. There are stress cracks in this big piece. I am convinced the sheet glass and mirror manufacturers are rushing the annealing process. So much glass now breaks off the mark or score. I will stay the course and finish this wild concept piece. Live-Edge wood is all the rage… here is my take on it. I am attempting to mirror the entire honed front surface. Live-Edge Art - Concept Model Completed. Live-Edge wood tops and desks are sure popular. Well here is my interesting twist on Live-Edge Wood… I thought it could make some form of cool wall mirrors!!!  Its been a mirror month here in my design studio.  The attached images are my first attempt at such a thing. The Art of Glass - Custom Furniture - Functional Works of Art - Glass is so incredibly adaptive. It comes in thousands, 10’s of thousands of colors and styles. When the intent is to design something specific, I pick my glass and start to embellish it into what ever I can imagine. These are two super cool custom tables, one is a coffee table, the other a card table top. These tables are both carved and painted glass. The design is deep carved in the bottom surface and painted with highly reflective metallic auto lacquer. Mirror Design Theory - Fine Art - I am continuing with my intense study of concept designing with mirror. I think I’m onto something Big!!! I have always thought about oversize mosaic art, this is kind of along those lines. The figure is all cut pieces of 1/4” bronze glass that is carved and sculpted to form. They are then UV bonded to bronze mirror. From there I frosted the entire background and added deep cut carved lines, these I painted black with the intention that they are sketch lines. I initially intended this piece to look like old Picasso style art, but it turned out a little more modern. The hair and the lines were rushed in order to finish, it is what makes it look modern now. I do not mind the modern look, I am so digging the technique itself. The technique has a world of opportunity which I will be exploring quite a bit in the future. Modern Art… A too often, overused title for garbage. Modern Art, when real, is art that only looks simple. So, if Art is in the eye of the beholder, let it be that of a professional. Here is a new series of Modern Art, Glass Art, Dimensional Art. It’s a study of color and form, light and refraction. Photo Realistic Etching - Hear the Music… I did! The yacht KingBaby is an outstanding custom yacht whose interior design was themed “Rock & Roll”. Iconic rock images graced this custom yacht… several were ones I was involved with. What I did with my team was create super custom hand carved glass panels that were used as illuminated backlight panels. Our carved glass, which was impeccably detailed was edge-lit with high power LED lights. When this is done, the etching lights up and the background clear glass does not. This created a most unique dramatic illumination to the images we were involved in. Design Development - Creative Thinking… when I was asked to come up with an idea for this space, I was at first stumped. Never for long though. My type of glass does not often work into spaces like this… so I turned to the thought of hot-glass. I know hot glass can be bold color and show extremely well in this space. While engaging the artists I know who blow glass, I felt the need to offer up some choice of my own to compete with it. This is my option which turned out to perfectly suit both client and my creative vision. This is layered sheet glass and mirror carved out to fit these elegant bird shapes. I show several layouts to how they can be seen, which do you like? These birds will appear to be floating in this space in flight. They will be set on clear glass dowel rod which virtually disappears. They will have a base that the client wants to look like water, sounds good to me. 3-D Mirror Frame - One thing for sure is I will never run out of ideas... they evolve from passion to expand my portfolio and my expertise. Now, this is not such a big deal, cut glass, blast it, paint it and find a way to stick it all together. This is a first for me working this glass in a 3-D form like this. What is a big deal is figuring out how to actually bond it in a way it is stable, long lasting and aesthetically pleasing from every angle. This is anyone’s challenge if they want this mirror or something like it. This first run piece is my tester, funny it looks like a peacock in color and some form... those who know me close know I am working on a peacock window. A masterpiece Tiffany styled stained glass window, it will be one for the record book. I did figure out my plan to create and finish this unique 3-D mirror, I also figured out the large amount of time it takes to cut, blast, paint and assemble these funky cool mirrors. Be ready to pay well for us to repeat them. Luxury Upgrade... Through the unique vision of the prominent Jamie Herzlinger, I was commissioned to create this unique set of crystal clear glass closet doors. She wanted something striking and organic and she knew I could deliver. She decided on this style of organic glass carving of mine, she knew it would be the perfect touch. These finished doors replaced the all too common mirrored closet doors, the ones where you can see the safety backing on the opposite side. These mirrors are best for closets you cannot walk in to. Glass Molding... Whaaat??? Why??? Answer: Why not!!! This is the early concept phase of crazy. Crazy for whittling glass into moldings... Like a mad scientist I have my reasons, in time you will see why. So, in the photos you see the evolution of my madness. I strip cut a variety of thicknesses and widths of low- iron plate glass. I then stencil and carve them to the desired profiles. Then I bond them with an exceptional glass bonder @bohlegroup designed for permanent bonding of glass. Once bonded,... off to the wet room for the miter. Now, they and their base glass go to Susan Kent, a prominent Palm Beach artist well known for her mastery with everything related to paint, finishes, artistry, fine art, antiques and way more. Her scope of knowledge makes my head spin. She will antique and guild these pieces to look 100+ years old. This concept sample will become many things. Modern Minimalism - Who knew it could be so satisfying??? Yes,... it is easy simple shapes and lines brought together in harmony. Here is two married harmonic shapes playing well together. I love it!👍🏻 I’m usually a bit more of a maximum-ist, so I added my touch in other ways... some seen, some not seen. What cannot be truly appreciated in a picture is the premium hand-tooled mini bevel or chamfer. This little detail took about 10+ hours refining to 2000 grit pads followed by cerium oxide to finish. Bevels are super common with mirror, not so is this old-school hand work. When you see it up close, you will know why!!! The other extras are behind and around the piece... the custom low-profile bonded hanging backing, it’s back-trimmed brushed metal perimeter trim that accents both mirror and wall. This is a signed work of art, an original design. The one photo of the signature shows the mini- bevel up close. This piece hangs like a work of art so it can go with the owner.
