You know, I was so excited for Eddie’s arc this season. I had such high expectations for it to be what S5 was to address his PTSD and trauma and loss, but this time to figure out who Eddie is apart from being Christopher’s dad and to also finally deal with Shannon wanting to leave him even before her death. So far they’ve given us bursts of this arc in a way that feels comical and disjointed and with not even an ounce of the weight and grace they handled his arc during S5. Maybe it’ll change in 8b and I know we’ve only gotten the first half of the season, so I’m prepared to admit to premature whining if they blow me away in 8b.

But you know how slowly and carefully they built up towards Eddie’s breakdown in 5b, right from 5x01? It felt like a progression and at point did I question what I was seeing or how real it felt. Nothing much about Christopher being in El Paso makes sense, and I’m not even talking about the timeline they can’t keep straight. Have they talked about if or when he might be coming back? Have they talked at all about anything? Chris barely said a word to him in 8x01, when did that change? Okay, I’m prepared to believe that he’s just given in to talking to his dad instead of ignoring him. What is Eddie saying to his parents about all this? Is he mad? He must be mad. Can we see that? Is Christopher going to want his dad to move to El Paso to be with him before they say one word about the thing that happened during the season 7 finale? How is Christopher feeling about all this? I’m prepared to believe they’d address that in 8b, but how is Eddie feeling about all this now??? They gave us eight episodes where they could’ve telegraphed a lot with this premise of a dad fucking up and his child leaving him to live with his grandparents and we’ve spent less than ten minutes on this arc in total? Make it make sense.

I’ve always loved the dynamic between the ot3 we've had since 1.0 and with firefly joining the party it instantly became an ot4 for me lol so that's fun! Speaking of firefly infantilization, I absolutely agree with what you said and what’s sad is you know damn well that if the person inside SAM was a man people would’ve cared to explore the odd connection & parallels between “him” & blade beyond “dad & daughter 🥺” posting (not to mention the fact that she’s much older than him). And she literally told kafka to “stop playing with her food” in the jepella trailer. They're partners & equals, not a nuclear family 💀

It's the exact same for me! Well, except I started playing in 1.3, but don't worry about it. As soon as Firefly's identity as a Stellaron Hunter was leaked (wow that was a while ago now) I started waiting to see how they'd portray her relationship with the other three, since they all already had a great dynamic - and wow did 2.2 and 2.3 not disappoint. She joined the ot3 now ot4 easily!

Alas, infantilization is just the fandom fate of any short young looking woman with a man she's close to in her life. Over on Genshin's side, Sigewinne still largely gets treated as Wriothesley's daughter even though she literally saw him grow up and clearly acts like an adult. Nevermind that she, just like Firefly, is the much older one of the two. Just because Firefly actively tries to enjoy her short life in as many ways as she can experience instead of brooding 90% of the time like Blade doesn't automatically mean he's older or more mature... He's just depressed.

That said! There are people with very nice takes out there, even if they aren't directly ship. And since I too am very interested in the dynamic between Blade and Firefly, given their respective situations and wishes - have you seen this comic yet? Only part 1 is out and I don't know if the webnovel (fic?) it's based on exists in English, but just that part 1 is so nice.

The Pale King and The Radiance have so many parallels oh my God-

You don't get it the more I think about it the more these two are literally the same goddamn character in different circumstances and I'm about to list the reasons I know this.

1. Light

Ok let's get the obvious out of the way. Both the Pale King and The Radiance are described as "a light" by the seer, which already implies a connection. (Terms like The Old Light for Radiance and Beacon for Pale King allude to this as well) This could be a physical thing, but it also alludes to the type of power these two hold: both of them are capable of affecting bugs' consciousness.

The Pale King gave them sentience and The Radiance made the Infection. It's unknown whether the Moth Tribe had sentience before the Pale King but considering they were able to harness Essence for themselves it seems likely. Either way the Radiance probably gave them some kind of consciousness before the Pale King showed up.

2. "No Cost Too Great"

Ok so PK may have been the one to say the famous line but it 100% applies to The Radiance as well. Her one motivation is to be remembered, presumably out of self-preservation. To accomplish this she entered bugs' dreams and placed them under a hivemind. Not something we'd call ethical, but hey, neither is killing thousands of your own children to find one with no mind and seal it in a temple.

If we interpret Pale King's intentions as wanting to preserve his kingdom as opposed to keeping more bugs from being infected then he also falls into a similar mentality.

Hollow Knight's biggest theme in general is "all things must come to an end eventually", and The Radiance and the Pale King both cause suffering trying to counter that. One wanting to preserve her memory, the other his kingdom.

3. Overanalyzing their designs

Both of these headpieces look like crowns for obvious reasons, but The Radiance's "crown" is a lot smaller, alluding to her status as a fallen deity. (This doesn't mean anything in-universe since thanks to the statue in Crystal Peaks we know she always looked like this, but it's an interesting design choice)

If you wanna look deeper the colors between their eyes and face are inverted

PK gives bugs a mind. Radiance takes it away. They have the same goal and the same power but do the exact opposite. So while PK has a lighter face and darker eyes Radi has a darker face and lighter eyes. This is something they share with the bugs whose minds they've altered; conscious bugs have dark eyes while infected bugs have orange pupils.

I know these details were probably not that deep upon conception but on the off chance they were I wanted to bring them up because they cool.

The next crash against the wall was the last straw for Amane. Prison life was already uncomfortable as it was. Even without her cell neighbor’s constant noise, she would’ve had trouble sleeping given the poor conditions that guilty prisoners faced. With his constant noise, she couldn’t sleep at all. She’d spoken about the disturbance to Es, and some of the others, but no one had done anything to remedy the situation. 

She’d seen the way they all looked at Mikoto. She’d seen the way he’d looked back. Everyone hesitated to stand up against him after what had happened. But Amane had learned not to walk in fear. She had faith that she would be protected, as she was here doing what was right.

She clung to that promise of protection as she marched out of her cell. With as much confidence as she could muster, she knocked on Mikoto’s door. The violent sounds behind it came to a halt. She tried to keep her sleeves rolled up; she hated how the new oversized uniform made her look even smaller. 

The door flew open, revealing a half-destroyed room and an equally torn-up prisoner. Mikoto hadn’t bothered to get his new uniform mended. Amane would have found the behavior slobbish, except he put the clothes under strain each and every night. There’d be no use in fixing it only to wreck it again the following evening.

“What?” His eyes burned in fury. Behind him, what little furniture the cells held had all been overturned. His knuckles were raw with blood. He breathed heavily from exertion.

Amane swallowed. “Kayano Mikoto. I’m here to ask you to be quiet.”

“Excuse me?”

“It’s disruptive at this hour.” He squinted at her, likely wondering if she was serious. She was. “It’s also very disrespectful to your fellow prisoners.”

“I don’t give a fuck about the other prisoners.”

“I think you do.”

“And what would you know?”

“I know you care about me, at least.”

He scoffed. “I don’t. Just ask the warden, you won’t get any special treatment just because you’re a kid.”

He went to slam the door, but Amane was quick to grab the edge. “I saw you that day,” she said hurriedly. “You told Shidou that Kotoko attacked you, but you lied. You struck first.”

Mikoto tipped his head to the side with a sneer. “What are you gonna do, tattle on me?”

“Kotoko attacked prisoner three. Then prisoner six. Next would have been – should have been eight, not nine.” Amane adjusted her sleeves. She said softer, “I’m glad it wasn’t special treatment because I’m a child.”

She lifted her chin. “So, if you still care about my well-being, I ask you to let me sleep. The rest would also do you good. The others, they’ve begun talking about the two of us very similarly. I find quiet meditation works for me, so maybe it’s the same for --”

“We are nothing alike, let’s get that straight. And I can guarantee fucking praying isn’t going to do a thing for me.”

“Why not?”

Mikoto laughed. Amane wasn’t sure she’d ever heard angry laughter before. “Let’s just say the guy I’m talking to isn’t listening.”

“It may feel like that, but that’s why we must believe.” He seemed ready to shut her out again, so she asked quickly, “You love Him, right?”

Mikoto blinked.

“If so, you must have faith He loves you in return.”

“And if he doesn’t?” The way he asked it, he didn’t appear to care about the outcome. He was just curious what she’d say.

Well, he was in luck, because she had the perfect answer prepared. Amane placed her hands over her heart. “He has to. He is a part of you, His spirit living and working in you.”

Mikoto chuckled again, though she hadn’t said anything funny. He muttered something to himself before shutting the door. 

With nothing left to say, Amane returned to her own cell. She fumed that Mikoto still saw her as a clueless, or perhaps naive child. 

But for the rest of that night, at least, the room beside her remained quiet.

I wanted to post this last night but I fell asleep but we so so need to talk about Axlerod's little "navigating the world without GPS" thing because the movie literally INTRODUCES him with Mel Dorado(news anchor) talking about it and one of the first things he mentions is how Axlerod was PRESUMED DEAD FOR THIRTY DAYS. Until he just like. Showed up or something. Why is this not talked about(I say that as though there are more than five people on the planet that like him). But it also begs the question for me of like.. how much of it was just a bit or like..notttt entirely true. Cause the whole Allinol thing was a sham and supposedly his little expedition was the kickstarter for him getting the idea for Allinol and making the all natural fuel and whatnot so like. I mean he is a land rover, which is basically the UK Jeep in nearly every aspect including history, which basically basically means he is a car that could essentially drive whenever whenever with little to stop him, so it wouldn't be IMPOSSIBLE.

Also also. What are we defining as "Around the globe"? Cause at first I just pictured like across the equator or something but I don't know how much that makes sense. Surely he at least had a plane or something for the oceans. Is around the globe just going and hitting every continent?(excluding the Arctics). Is Australia ever included in an around the globe destination cause it is its own place?

Part of me is leaning towards it not being a sham, I don't know why. He looked absolutely knackered so I feel like SOMETHING happened. But then that also begs the question of like, how did they even have a clip of that anyway. Was he vlogging the whole thing. Please tell me he was. Which I suppose could also be a reason for him getting presumed dead if it suddenly ended and there was nothing. Even if it was faked that man was still presumed dead. But there's also the alternative of they found him and were just like "wait WAIT this'll be great for the press." Or again, it could possibly been faked, but for some reason I'm leaning towards saying it wasn't. Maybe I'm somehow a little biased? But I don't know why I would be cause I know the whole Allinol thing wasn't true, and him converting to an electric was PARTIALLY true, he just didn't have the engine change of going to an electric, so really he's like a funky hybrid, I do have my own little facts to support this if anyone is curious, but the movie was mostly focused on the engine. But I did stare at him and the turntable he has on YouTube for about far too long.

Also also also I want everyone to know that the person who wrote "rakish" to describe Axlerod and his grin in the newspaper that gets shown on the screen for a few seconds was absolutely absolutely me. Which is funny because I always figured Axlerod would be more on the unconventional side like all the other lemons are. But that's all the more reason I wrote it. And the other word in there that gets to me that someone would ever describe him like that but I can't remember off the top of my head. Go watch his turntable I think that exudes rakishness.

It's been two years and I'll still never come up with a proper answer for what happened there, or maybe I will eventually, but man. I almost want to post a picture of how he looked because he was BEAT. He was literally crawling he like forgot he was a car or something. He was covered in leaves from tropical looking trees and there was like a banana bunch on him and I think like a coconut or something. Which I suppose could give me a lead to where he went for his "around the globe" thing but I'll save that botany research for another day. I'm not even going to get myself started on the bit of the press surrounding him before he set off and he had all this equipment and gear and stuff and. I need to stress the fact that he does a wink to the camera before he goes off. It's more of a I-normally-dont-ever-wink-at-all wink but it still makes me giggle.

Rise of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - "Mask of the Masked Rider"

Prince Dex of Edenoi was given the powers of the Masked Rider by his dying grandfather, King Lexian, following a devastating final assault on Edenoi's capital by the evil Count Dregon. With Edenoi's defenses crippled, Dregon set his sights on Earth. Dex soon followed, teaming up with the Power Rangers and forming a strong alliance with them, counting them as some of his first and closest friends.

Dex's past is riddled in tragedy, Edenoi having been under constant siege since before he was born. His planet made for an easy target, as most of the population were pacifists, save for the Masked Rider Warriors that stood guard against incursions. Sadly, they were all wiped out in Dregon's final attack, leaving only Dex and his Ectophase Activator as the last remnants of the Rider Warriors.

Around the Rangers, Dex says everything extremely deadpan, making it hard to tell whether or not he's joking, but he will soon clarify with an equally deadpan "That was a joke." or "Was that not funny?"

He comes into inadvertant conflict with Tommy as she starts to worry about him replacing her on the team, threatened by the "newer and cooler green guy". The two soon reconcile as Tommy apologises for projecting onto him, with Dex saying that, as someone who also had never had friends before now, it's understandable that she would be worried about losing them again.

5MINNUST & Puuluup just won Eesti Laul! I’m so hyped about this result, it was exactly what I wanted! Credit to Ollie, and I would really love to see him at Eurovision one day, but 5minnust were just on another level tonight. The perfect level of chaos and excitement with a super catchy song – I really hope that this connects with the general audience at Eurovision the way it seems to have with the fandom. They definitely could tweak the staging to give it a little more polish for the big stage, but I hope they keep the overall energy and honestly choreography from this performance. I’m so glad we’ll get to see them again in May!

oh, boy, do they? :D the only sure-fire way to Siri's heart is being a history nerd, actually. Atris ensured that. while Siri is not much of a sitter for history classes, they WILL listen to your history ramblings and freak you out by remembering them verbatim years later. something about the excitement of their friend's nerding over history just really Gets to them, unlike any traditional methods of history teaching. they start to Care because they see you Care. when Siri met Mical, they immediately knew that they're going to be friends. it was unavoidable. Mical was going to be their no. 1 human podcaster.

...and then it spiralled from there...

so it was only half a truth that Mical kissed Siri because after Mical kissed Siri, Siri actually kissed him back. quite enthusiastically, at that. it was only after their brain kicked in did they (meaning Siri because Mical was totally on board) realize that it was all A Very Bad Idea. there's a lot going on in Kotor 2 and it goes double for someone who kept running away from their past up until Peragus. it was unfair to become romantically involved with Mical - both for him AND for Siri who had a lot on their plate at the moment… not to mention quite non-pedagogical since he was one of their Padawans. and then, some time later, Siri discovered the nature of their Force bonds with others and realized that by rejecting Mical, they essentially dodged a bullet…

while Siri cares for Mical a great deal, perhaps a bit differently than they would have for just a friend, they would never risk the possibility of a coerced relationship… and how can they trust that Mical's feelings for them are entirely genuine? it's easy to doubt when you're a war criminal and as such you consider yourself pretty much unlovable. it's easy to believe that this bright-eyed sweet nerd only loves you because you Force talked him into it (perhaps all the more so when your former best friend, a not-so-bright-eyed nerd, looks at you with so much vitriol for daring to breathe in the same room).

I genuinely believe that Siri's problems with Force bonds could be fixed by some solid talking to from Revan, some oversight from Mira (who never got Love Siri brainworms & good for her) and getting therapy. because it's essentially all fault of Siri's yearning to be loved fighting with their pre-conceived notion of being irredeemable & unworthy of love that generates the Love Siri brainworms, and that can be turned off - at least with the help of therapy. and I genuinely want to believe that if freed from a Love Siri filter bubble, Mical would still like Siri somewhat... but would he like them enough to want to romance them? it's up to Mical to decide.
