August: Day 25
Adventures
Spent way too long at the library
Checked out a book that was so old and hadn't been checked out for so long that it was no longer in the library's computer system
Enjoyed an hour of silence at home resting in the peace of the wind outside and the sunlight and shadows of trees flickering on the floor
Read poetry under a tree in the sunset
Writing
Read part of Ruta Sepetys' book on writing
Wrestled with the desire to write a personal, meaningful novel while having no idea what project could fill that need
#adventures in writing#the old book was a lovely old volume of james whitcomb riley's poetry#i loved 'when the frost is on the punkin' in middle school and paging through the book i thought it was perfect for august#i have no idea when the library obtained it#but the copyright page said nothing but 'copyright 1892 by james w riley'#the self-checkout didn't recognize it#and the librarian explained that books will fall out of the system if they're un-checked-out for long enough#which filled me with a secret delight#i was rescuing the poor lonely unloved old book#giving a senior citizen a new chance at life#reading it in the sunset makes me wonder if i could ask the library to sell it to me#they clearly don't need it#and it's such a lovely volume#there's something about reading such an old edition of the book that puts the poems in their proper environment#you can feel the world he was writing about because you're holding a piece of it in your hands#and i just like his poetry#it's sensible poetry if there can be such a thing#not making grand metaphors about nature and the deeper human condition#but just 'there was sunlight on the crick. and a tree. and some butterflies. it was nice.'#plus the country perspective and working-class characters#it's down to earth and homespun and simple and grounded and in love with all the common things of life#and so much of the landscape is so familiar so there's the extra sense of connection#sure some of it gets a bit trite but it's so unpretentious that you can't mind the occasional misstep#and occasionally there's one where the impeccable sense of rhythm he showed in the first poem i loved sneaks up on me and sweeps me away#anyway it was nice it was a good day god is good

As we approach the one-year mark since the horrific events of Oct. 7, 2023, it’s time to recognize that the methods attempted so far to gain the release of the remaining 101 hostages held in the Gaza Strip—including four American citizens—aren’t working. President Biden has failed to get Israel and Hamas to accept a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange despite months of prodding. Israeli rescue attempts have had only limited success. Israel said on Sunday that during a recent military operation, its troops discovered six hostages who had been killed by their captors, including Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American Israeli who had been one of the faces of the hostage ordeal—and whose parents spoke at the Democratic National Convention last month. Goldberg-Polin and the others did not have to die.
Two things should be clear to anyone paying attention: First, Hamas and its senior leader in the enclave, Yahya Sinwar, are responsible for the ongoing suffering of the hostages in Gaza; and second, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has the power to secure their release but has chosen again and again not to do so.
Since December, there has been a proposal on the table to exchange hostages with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody at a ratio that favors Hamas. It is predicated on a cease-fire and a path to a diplomatic settlement of the war. It is the only formula that could secure the return of all hostages from Gaza.
Sinwar will not agree to changes in the basic outlines of the deal. Counter to Netanyahu’s claims, military pressure does not work on him. In warfare, it is important to understand your adversary. For Sinwar, the rising death toll in Gaza with all its attendant pain actually advances his core interest: It increases the delegitimization of Israel internationally. And while Sinwar is clearly going to great lengths to protect his own life, he would rather die than give up hostages without securing an end to the war.
Netanyahu, for his part, is not genuinely interested in a hostage deal, as it endangers his political survival. As long as there are hostages in Gaza, he has a justification to continue the war. And as long as the war continues, he can push off demands for a commission of inquiry, an early election, and a broader political reckoning. Netanyahu presided over the single largest one-day loss of civilian Jewish lives since the Holocaust, and his only way to survive politically is by perpetuating the war. While Netanyahu pays lip service to the hostages and to Biden’s efforts on their behalf, he is actively sabotaging any chance of a deal.
He has done so throughout the negotiating process by repeatedly introducing new demands. The latest example is his insistence on maintaining Israeli control of the border between Gaza and Egypt, which Israel calls the Philadelphi Corridor. Netanyahu said that holding the corridor is necessary to prevent Hamas from rearming. But Israel didn’t bother capturing Philadelphi until nine months into the war. And Israel’s own security chiefs believe it’s possible to block the flow of arms from Egypt without maintaining a troop presence there.
Netanyahu has also ordered provocative military actions at several junctures when it appeared that the negotiations might be advancing. In early January, when the three-stage hostage deal was gaining steam, Netanyahu authorized the assassination of Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut—halting the talks. In early April, just when the United States, Egypt, and Qatar made a breakthrough on the hostage deal, an Israeli attack in northern Gaza killed three sons and four grandchildren of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh. Negotiations stalled. The pattern is unmistakable.
Multiple times over the past few months, Netanyahu has committed himself to a deal in private meetings with Biden or members of his team, only to move the goal posts publicly.
This happened in May, when Biden spoke publicly about his agreement with Netanyahu, and again just last week, following Netanyahu’s three-hour meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
I’ve been involved in hostage negotiations for a long time, and so I can tell you: When there are gaps between the sides and you want negotiations to succeed, you emphasize the common ground in your public remarks. If you want the negotiations to fail, you speak publicly about the gaps. It’s hard to ignore the fact that Netanyahu only ever talks about the gaps.
From the outside, this certainly feels like an impasse. But there is another way.
Biden should set aside, for now, the effort to reach a comprehensive hostage deal and focus on bringing home the four Americans held in Gaza (four other Americans were abducted on Oct. 7 but have since been confirmed dead). He should do it quickly, before they too are killed as a result of Netanyahu’s self-serving policies. Protecting the safety of American citizens is the first order of responsibility for any U.S. president. In trying for a more limited deal, Biden would be honoring that mandate—but he might also end up breaking the impasse and nudging the sides toward a broader deal.
To put the Israeli hostages to the side for now and aim for a much smaller agreement would certainly be painful. I have maintained regular contact with the families of many of the hostages—they have endured the worst kind of suffering imaginable over the past year. As an Israeli citizen, I share their anguish—and I’m devastated by the discovery of the six dead hostages.
It would also be complicated.
The United States designates Hamas as a terrorist group and has a no-concessions policy when it comes to American hostages. Any negotiation would have to be indirect. But the current talks are already indirect—mediated by Qatar and Egypt. Building a communication channel is often the hardest part of the negotiation. In this case, it already exists.
Regarding the terms of a deal, the White House might wonder what it could offer Hamas in return for the Americans. After all, the United States cannot stop the war, nor does it have Hamas prisoners to release. This is where emotional intelligence would be key. This type of deal would not be about what the United States can offer Hamas—though humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza could be included in the package. Instead, it would be about what strategic gains Hamas stands to make by doing a deal with the United States.
From Hamas’s perspective, an agreement would potentially stoke tensions between Israel and the United States—thereby advancing the group’s interests. And it would reveal Netanyahu as an obstructionist. All four Americans held in Gaza are also Israeli citizens. Their release would reflect badly on Netanyahu, underscoring that Biden was willing to do more for Israelis than their own leader.
Of course, the initiative could be framed by Biden’s political opponents as a betrayal of Israel at a sensitive moment, ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November. But the administration could make a strong case regarding its responsibility to protect the lives of U.S. citizens after almost a year of diplomacy. Or it could wait till after the election, when the lame-duck period makes the issue moot.
The most important outcome of such a deal would be the release itself—four people who have endured excruciating captivity for almost a year would be returned to their families. But an agreement—or even just the credible prospect of one—might just force Netanyahu to accept the larger hostage-deal framework.
To put it simply, it might be politically infeasible for Netanyahu to watch from the sidelines as Biden bypasses him and secures the release of hostages. The pressure from the Israeli street would be immense.
Biden has been a friend to Israel for his entire political career. A public display of tension and disagreement would be out of character for him. But a separate deal to bring home U.S. hostages would not rupture ties with Israel. Instead, it would reassert that American interests cannot be subordinated to those of a foreign power, even a close ally.

I'm thinking again about the au where Amber's dad was kidnapped by Hive Genex as a young adult, and Amber is around 20ish when Hive England stakes a claim on the three citizens that were kidnapped, as well as all their duty children.
She's been a telepath for a couple years now, and it's HARD. First of all, she's their hive's ONLY telepath, so she has to take on all of their most difficult cases, and she's dangerously close to burning out because Hive Genex doesn't have the mandatory 24 hour rest period after emergency runs.
And because the citizens of Hive Genex aren't nearly as happy and complacent as those of Hive England, she's constantly on edge, because reading the minds of their wild bees is always so exhausting, and the hive mind in general is a lot more discordant than Hive England's.
She also isn't treated as protectively as she would be in Hive England. Sure, her bodyguards make sure she doesn't get injured during runs, but because of the super tight family bonds the 21 people from Hive England have, Hive Genex doesn't have to be worried about her taking up her right to change hives once in her life. Because her dad has already used up his chance, and they know she would never make the choice that means she wouldn't ever see him again. So she doesn't get any of the luxuries the telepaths in Hive England do.
Which is why it's such a culture shock when she does go to Hive England.
They already know she's a telepath, but they put her through a modified version of lottery, to determine what kind of people they should assign to her Unit.
There's two months before the big Carnival Lottery when she arrives at Hive England, and although the hive is in a desperate situation, they give her those full two months to rest and settle into her new hive. The main benefit is that they have a bigger pool of people to choose from for her strike team, and can choose ones that are perfect for her, without having to compromise by choosing whoever already has the right imprint and is willing to switch from their current assignment.
There's also the fact that her modified Lottery tests showed just how close she was to burnout, and they want to make sure she's properly rested before they go operational.
They slowly start setting up her unit in the meantime - furnishing the unit, getting the park back in order, hirung her tactical commander, her senior administraator, and her strike team leader. They also start putting feelers out for tactical and liaison personnel.
Among the people who had come back with Amber from hive Genex, there's Rothn, who's a couple months older than her, and his younger brother Forge, who is a year younger than the two of them. They had both been on her strike team back in Hive Genex, and given how much she already trusts them and knows how to work with them well, they are automatically chosen to be part of her strike team. Adika is impressed at how good they both are at their jobs, and given they'll have more experience than the greenies that will be coming out of Lottery soon, the two of them are the obvious choices for his deputy strike team leaders.

[ad_1] Celebrating 3 years of RevSportz. For any employee, 15 months of working in an organisation is long enough time to talk about it, what it stands for, what its goals are, and what it has achieved. Having begun my journey with RevSportz in September 2023, a few weeks before the Asian Games in Hangzhou, it was a new experience. There were some well-meaning folks who said joining a start-up would be a wrong decision. Not that I cared, since I had earlier, in 2007, made the shift from a big broadsheet to a start-up tabloid. It was seen as a mindless decision due to the risk factors. That the newspaper shut down during the Covi-19 pandemic was proof that not all start-ups pack up, since it had been in the market for 13 years. The big challenge for me when joining RevSportz was adapting to the needs of a digital platform. It required a quick change in mindset and reacting as fast as possible to news and views, which was easy. Where the voyage got more interesting at RevSportz was when stepping into YouTube shows in English and Hindi, attempting to do video interviews and being as energetic as someone in their late 20s while covering the Paris 2024 Olympics. It was challenging and, at the same time, rewarding, since I did new things which I thought I was uncapable of at my fifth Olympics. This piece is not about me, but RevSportz and how it will turn 3 on December 1, 2024. I would request people in the market to stop calling it a ‘baby’. This toddler has grown manifold, and challenges established platforms, while even forcing some to rethink how they can reinvent themselves. And that will not be easy, since RevSportz is not just a website. Yes, there is a website which can be read and noticed. To produce content in the form of video interviews (videos) and integrate it with multiple social media platforms in real time has been defining for RevSportz. That has also given regular TV channels a run for their money. Indeed, the presence of a sports platform in English, Hindi and Bangla is no mean feat. What RevSportz has done in these three years is no fluke. Getting sponsors and investors on board is just one part. To have the vision to create new paths, and break the monotony – full credit to Boria Majumdar and his wife. It requires thinking and working 24x7x365, and leading from the front. I salute the energy and enthusiasm of the editor-in-chief. He has made life miserable for rival platforms, and ensured others follow a template which RevSportz has set. And I say this after watching what unfolded at two big events, the Asian Games in Hangzhou and the Paris 2024 Olympics. Of course, what RevSportz did at the Paralympics was standout. Cricket is the easiest sport to cover and write on. The challenge is to write, report and do video interviews on Olympic sports and more unconventional games as well, chess included. The digital world speaks for what RevSportz has achieved, in terms of archives that can be searched on Google. As a senior citizen in the real sense, working for RevSportz, I can predict that the coming years will see a further rise of this ‘baby’ which will blow out three candles on December 1. Last but not least, for Boria to give youngsters a chance to travel abroad and prove themselves is awesome. Sports editors and editors in several organisations of which I have been part of have either behaved like misers, or sent some glamorous anchor to cover cricket, who would not know the difference between a cricket ball and a hockey one! We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Jung Soomin a 28 year old daughter of Airmid. She is a Emergency Response Doctor at Asclepius Hospital
FC NAME/GROUP: Kim Yoohyeon | DREAMCATCHER
CHARACTER NAME: Jung Soomin
AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: 28, July 4th 1996
PLACE OF BIRTH: Seoul, South Korea
OCCUPATION: Emergency Response Doctor for AGTHC
HEIGHT: 5'7"
WEIGHT: N/A
DEFINING FEATURES: Ever often changing hair colors she likes changing it up. Even if others think its unprofessional.
PERSONALITY: Tired is an underestimate, Soomin always feels two steps away from a nap. Her brain is always running at top speed every single second she is awake. She finds it hard to just shut it off and relax besides laying in her bed for hours on and off sleeping. Though exhausted and also restless, Soomin is confident and very academically smart. It got her very far in life and into almost unknown dream college. Though the confidence tends to come off as arrogance.
Soomin is known for being extremely temperamental and crass, especially since she got into the E.R. Department. Though Doctors and Nurses are equals in the work place, she carries herself with an almost annoying superiority complex. Afterall the countless text books, exams, rigorous and brutal classes she had to be able to get some kind of boost from it, right? Most people think otherwise and tend to isolate away from Soomin, without much acknowledging why. It leaves her bitter and sometimes angry with others. Put her in her place and tell her to get off her high horse, she might come around.
She tends to personally feel as though she is lost and wanting to find herself.
HISTORY: When Soomin was born she ended up being raised by her Grandmother as her dad was an Active Duty Army Medic, who unfortunately passed in the line of duty. Soomin’s Grandmother was a strict force to be hold. Catering and shoving Soomin into the Medical field line of work, from a young age all Soomin had ever been given was things that would point into the direction of nursing, radiology, anything and everything. So long as she was in the medical field, not even giving the girl a chance to explore beyond such bounds. But there was an exception; Volleyball.Volleyball became the one way she could breathe, later one turning into the thing that narrowly got her into a prestigious high school, primarily focusing in medical fields. As the volleyball team had a spot open that needed to be filled. So Soomin became even more dedicated to her sport and her studies. A meticulous balance of practice, studying, and her class having actual friends was difficult for her to create and maintain. But even if no one really could claim Soomin as their friend she still was well liked by everyone, unless it was practice or a game. That’s when the champion become a drill sergeant. She took the game seriously, almost too seriously. But perhaps that seriousness came from how she felt as though her spot and place in the school hinged on doing well.
During all this time in her school, she was also beginning to feel change and difference. To her she just associated it to puberty. Even if her symptoms didn’t quite align with typical signs. What truly became odd was when her teammates had scrapped a knee, landed funny, their wrists ached. If Soomin touched them, long enough they actually began to feel better. Little to everyone’s knowledge that was Soomin’s powers working and healing. So Senior year, early into the semester, when her and the teams libero were walking down the steps, she ahd tripped and ended up taking a hard tumble down the stairs. Twisting and spraining enough that she’d be out the entire season. Soomin was worried so she picked her friend up and was preparing to take her to the nurse. Yet the ankle that was looking less than pleasant began to shift around almost on its own. Both Soomin and the team player watching in slight horror. Yet it was healed, she could still play. Both girls had agreed to never talk about the situation.
Soomin carried on with her life. Preparing for college exams, and the regional tournament. When a knock came at her door one late evening. Soomin opened it as her grandmother was asleep, there she met a woman stating she came from Phoenix University. Gifting the young teen a letter, inviting the teen to come to their university once she graduated. Course she had questions and began to ask where was Phoenix University and why had she never heard of it?
That was the night she found out she was a Demigod, realizing what she had those weird feelings and things she did where powers. Abilities to heal. Soomin accepted the invite, she still had to pass her enterance exams with high numbers though. Soomin took that to heart and still dedicated her self to volleyball, while cramming even harder for her exams. Absorbing everything she possibly could.
So when the season for exams had come and passed, everyone waiting their results. Soomin had gotten hers with astounding numbers. Happily she finished the rest of her Senior year on a great note. When the college semester was approaching. Grandmother had to know where her granddaughter was going to college. It was then was she sat down and explained things, she had always just assumed her son had a child out of wedlock and the mother was absent. But then things were pieced together, and though her grandmother still doesn’t fully understand she still gets the privilege to brag that her child went to a prestigious invite only college.
Soomindid fairly well at Uni, working hard to graduate early. She even made time and joined the recreational volleyball teams.
Life has always been good for Soomin, as she graduted and got into her short residency. But the second she could actually call herself Dr. Jung Soomin, she felt empty. All her life was medical field, her high school jump starting half those classes, cutting so much time in half so she can become a real doctor. The ultimate goal, and yet.. there she was feeling empty and that she is missing something.
Thus she began to spiral. Talking to the board allowing her to shorten her residency as a special case to get into working in a hospital. Thinking that if she just got into the field she wanted to work in that maybe things would be alright.
She was wrong.
Though she still does well in the work of emergency medicine she still feels empty, a little bitter, and her once rather demure, pleasant and easy to get along with personality changed to becoming tired, insufferable, and tempermental. Forcing herself to carry an ego that being a doctor is the best, and she did what she wanted.
Though in the back of her mind she wished she could have gone pro in volleyball.
PANTHEON: Celtic
CHILD OF: Armid
POWERS: Healing of the body. Not to its fullest potential like her mother but she is a damn good healer. Almost any ‘flesh wound’ she can take care of. Her powers seem to struggle and not do much in terms of autoimmune diseases and cancers. They rely on a responsive immune system in order to over ride and start healing at a rapid rate. Another downside is she can not heal herself.
STRENGTHS: Besides healing the body, she keeps herself at peak physical strength, or tries. Her sheer determination and intelligence got her very far in life.
WEAKNESSES: Excessive use of her powers can and will lead her to exhaustion and often times migraines. A slight temper on her, its resulted in many contentious work place situations. Falling down a flight of steps during her college years it’s given her some chronic ankle discomfort and rib pain.

If you are considering dating over the age of 50, trying a new activity is a thrilling way to connect with others in a relaxed manner. Common hobbies adopted by mature individuals include choirs, book groups, and cooking classes. Some folks opt to play a new musical instrument or learn a different language.
The kind of hobby you choose is completely up to you; however, it is a great idea to figure out something that is age appropriate with a social component that’ll place you in contact with a lot of other people.
3. Freshen up your wardrobe
Do Not Let Age Hold You Back From Dressing Stylishly

Returning to the field of dating over 50 is the ideal excuse to clear your wardrobe out and stock up on a few well-fitting, stylish outfits that’ll make you feel amazing and make a good first impression.
Why not consider donating clothing you have not used in years to a thrift shop? It’ll free up room in your closet for some quality outfits like a cashmere jumper, some nice jeans, or a smart coat.
4. Open up to friends and family
Having a close support system of family and friends is important if you are thinking about pursuing a romantic, healthy relationship.
If you are finding it challenging to tell your kids that you are dating over 50, remember that being truthful right from the start will always be the best policy.
5. Start to exercise
One other tip for dating over 50 is consistent exercise, which may benefit your mental wellbeing and physical health. There are an abundance of activities and classes appropriate for those over 50, including walking, swimming, and yoga.
Exercise is notorious for lifting your mood, giving you energy and boosting your self-esteem, not to mention improving sexual performance. Furthermore, activity clubs and exercise classes are a good way to meet like-minded individuals.
6. Go on vacation by yourself
Those over 50 usually have more financial stability than younger generations, and for that reason, typically spend more when traveling. Use that to your advantage. Traveling by yourself might lead to thrilling chance encounters, as you explore parts of the world you have always visualized visiting.
In the latter stage of life, you have all of the experience needed to put together the type of trip that is suitable for you. You will have the ability to explore at your own pace, plan your own itinerary, and connect with others you may never have met if you’d been traveling with other people.
A lot of tour operators offer vacation packages especially for solo travelers, which allows you to join a group who’ve all booked their trip by themselves. Some businesses even establish a minimum age of 50; therefore, you know you’ll be traveling with others of a similar age, and who knows where that might lead?
7. Start to say “yes” more often
All of the tips I have offered thus far might be summed up into one phrase: become more adventurous!
If you have the desire to encounter a new relationship, you will need to come out of your comfort zone. And the best way to do so includes getting into the habit of repeating the word “yes” to opportunities that come along.

HOW ICT EMPOWERS ME FROM MY CHOSEN AREA OF SPECIALIZATION THAT LEADS TO THE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIETY?
Technology has undoubtedly transformed our planet and our way of life throughout the years. The use of modern technologies has made everything simpler. Modern, sophisticated tools are now used in everything from household equipment to jobs to facilitate our work. In essence, humans are unable to exist without technology.
As a HUMSS student, ICT enables me to learn some things that might increase my confidence and expertise in my chosen field. Being a student in this generation where technology is rapidly developing day by day, it is not that hard to access and gain the knowledge that I need for my chosen course. In fact, ICT is one of the things that helped me decide which course I would pursue after senior high school which is Psychology.
ICT also allows me to learn some knowledge that may help me empower myself not only in my area of specialization but also in my contribution to society. As a young student who is also a citizen of the community where I live, ICT paves the way for me to help improve my surroundings. In today’s generation, we are much more aware and open-minded about societal issues. With the help of modern ICT, I can share my own insights and opinions about the things that I observe in my community, which can be a start for change and improvement.
As you can see, ICT and current technology really give you a lot of chances that can benefit and help you improve yourself. ICT has led to the introduction of new ideas that may pave the way for the improvement of everything.

There’s an ugly bruise on the inside, somewhere, that’s got its fingers wedged between his ribs.
“Can you keep a secret?” The guy asks, lips curled and curdled in the chill, gumming a thick dairy-rich smile he aims to spread over Steve like marmalade that’s gone bad.
He’s never felt like this before. An itch, spreading under his skin, raising gooseflesh all along the back of his neck so his fingernails scratch along the rim of PBR Steve cracked hours ago to keep him from lunging at the guy’s sockets instead.
Billy’s boyfriend waggles his eyebrows.
Steve doesn’t say anything.
He clocks the backyard, mostly empty now that everyone’s inside having apple pie with homemade ice cream, and wonders if he could get away with murder.
Billy’s boyfriend looks around, leaning forward until Steve can smell turkey stuffing and brown gravy on his breath. “I’m going to ask Billy to marry me tomorrow,” He says.
And.
Maybe there’s a plane crash. Maybe it parades into an intersection at rush hour. Maybe it causes a pile up and a bus full of senior citizens plows into a hospital that’s dedicated to nursing sick orphans back to health.
Maybe the whole world burns down in two seconds.
Steve sips the PBR even though it’s gone flat. Even though he knows what’s coming.
“Will you help me?” Billy’s boyfriend asks, and.
Every time he breathes, Steve’s heart shudders in resistance. With every blink, microscopic parts of him break off and blow past the fairy lights in Joyce’s backyard, spreading to the four corners like seeds that hope against all hope that they’ll find somewhere to grow.
Steve’s entire life flashes before his eyes, and it’s just like the movies.
Light-leak film, sepia colored memories of Abraham Lincoln playground and Billy, covered in Cinderella band aids.
Middle school dances where they ditched early to eat Chicago dogs at the only food cart in Hawkins. Freshman afternoons, studying with Billy in the library where the Golden-hour would turn him to folklore.
Senior year, and college, and rush after homecoming bash after graduation, wishing and hoping Billy would look at him and realize that they belonged together.
And now this.
Now the end.
Steve rocks a little, on his heels, reeling like he just took a PBR can to the gut.
Billy’s boyfriend stares at him, big brown eyes flooded with hope and pixie dust, and.
Love.
So much love Steve can feel it crackling through the air. It’s warm and pure and true.
Exactly what Billy deserves. What Steve always wanted to give him--
“Congratulations,” Steve manages.
Because it’s what he’s supposed to say. How his mother always taught him to respond to good news, even if it sinks his own.
He’s bleeding, somewhere. The words have spikes. They scrape on the way out. He finishes the rest of his beer. “Excuse me.”
“Sure,” Prince Charming says.
Steve stalks back toward the house. It’s warm inside. Golden, filled with warmth and laughter. All over the place, everyone’s cuddled up in knitted love made special from what they found at the end of the world.
Eddie and Chrissy, Nancy and Jonathan, Joyce and Hopper, Max and Lucas--
Paired off. Two by two, parading down the rose-pedaled isle Steve has always wanted for himself, and.
“Hey,” Someone says, smile draining slowly from their lips. “Steve, you okay?”
Steve doesn’t know who noticed him. Doesn’t care, he just. Can’t see Billy right now.
Ever again.
“Yeah,” Steve mumbles, searching for his coat. “Yeah, I’m just a little tired.”
Joyce dries her hands on a towel, brows plated with sachrine worry. “You don’t want to stay and help decorate the tree?”
He chances a look around the room and almost deflates in relief when Billy isn’t there, washing the dishes or packing leftovers. “I’m really sorry, I’m just so exhausted, all of a sudden,” Steve lies. He sniffles a little, for good measure. “I think I’m coming down with something--”
“Well, here,” Joyce tells him, rounding the kitchen table, “Let me pack you something to take home, since I won’t see you until Thursday.”
Steve makes it quick.
Says his goodbyes with a fire under his ass, swallowing against the rising tide of panic and regret that he let his yellow brick road pass him by. That he didn’t do something about all the love he’s carrying for Billy when he had the chance.
No one seems to notice.
They fall back into their own rhythm, filling the hole left by Steve and five minutes later he’s out the door, balancing Tupperware of Thanksgiving leftovers against his chest when a lighter flares red in the darkness.
“You leaving?”
Steve pulls away from the driver’s side door, stomach settling like cement around his ankles.
Billy watches with narrowed eyes from the soft, romantic glow of the front porch. The soft blue sweater that protects him from the chill of Hawkins in November stands in staunch opposition to Billy’s face.
His jaw is tight. Teeth on edge.
He’s uncomfortable. He’s caught on to something.
“Yeah,” Steve says quietly. “Yeah, I’m out.”
“How come?
Billy’s beautiful.
And he’s always been beautiful, but Steve takes a snapshot of him, like this. Thanksgiving, full of turkey and apple pie and love that he doesn’t see coming. Silver on his ring finger.
Steve shrugs.
Billy pushes off the side of the house, at that. His nose is red from the cold, eyelashes so long they look like pine thistles swirling against pools of blue when he gets close enough.
“You can’t leave, yet,” Billy insists.
Steve’s already gone. He’s sold the house, maybe, bought a plane thicket--
“I’m tired.”
“That’s a dumb reason,” Billy says quietly. “You get the weekend off for the holiday--”
Steve flares red-hot with annoyance. “I don’t give a shit about that, Billy, I came and had dinner and now I want to go home.”
“I never see you, anymore.” Billy stares at him, looks right into his soul. Ashes his cigarette, puffing on it even though his hands shake. From the cold, maybe.
Steve doesn’t say anything.
He grips the car door, resisting the urge to slam it in Billy’s face when he discards his cigarette and moves closer, thick, clever fingers fiddling with the collar of Steve’s jacket.
“I can’t watch you marry someone else,” Steve says simply. “I’ve watched you love someone else for so long, but. I can’t do that. It’ll kill me.”
It feels good to say it.
He tucks a lock of hair behind Billy’s ear, aching to find it rosy with the cold.
Billy watches him, face dissolved into a single, sugary twist of pain. His eyes are blue. So blue they put the morning sky to shame. So blue they give Steve third degree scorch marks all across his memory, burning everything else to the ground until Steve cracks like a block of old cement.
And Billy doesn’t look surprised.
Or shaken up, or all that heartbroken when he cups Steve’s jaw between both hands.
Steve waits for him to say the words. I don’t love him, I love you. I want to be with you, let’s run away together. Come live with me and we can play pirates--
Steve doesn’t hold his breath.
#harringrove#angst#so sorry!#only not really because who doesn't love a little angst during the holidays!

Chainsaw Man Chapter 102 Thoughts
It’s been a really really long time since I’ve done one of these and due to the recent stuff going on twitter I figured that it was finally time that I officially came back to my sweet sweet serenity which is this beautiful place.
I’m well aware these past chapters came out a while ago, but it’s gonna act as a build up towards my Chainsaw Man Manga Catch-up Livestream Discussion, and what better what way to begin then with Chapter 102.
So Asa and Yuko were currently on the run from the Bat Devil who was chasing after them at the end of Chapter 101, and off the gate.... This man, Tastsuki Fujimoto has no chill when it comes to Yoru because she’s telling Asa “Let the girl die and she should become a weapon.” Truly it’s pretty fucked up if you ask me, but I can’t say it’s surprising given Fujimoto’s approach on writing.
With that said, I love how Asa is contemplating about this entire decision with Yuko even though Yoru continues to whisper in her ear about what to do for the betterment of their survival. That even comes at the simple fact where she mentions about Bucky to Asa and it causes her to reflect back on what happened back then with her classmates. The reassurance Yoru gives to her about the night facing death’s door in the face. A second chance to lease on life. To survive in this moment Asa has to kill Yuko.
However, things don’t go Yoru’s way at all because Asa made the decision to save Yuko’s life by carrying her while escaping from the Bat Devil. Things still don’t go the way for Asa as she trips onto a floor tile which is when we get a moment that really drives home the sense of sadness for Asa. When it comes to the most crucal moment at any point in her life, she always trips and fall. From birthday parties, to track, and when she attempted to save a cat. Yet, in spite of her situations where she trips and falls, Asa managed to succeed in saving the cat from the truck.
Where we find ourselves at the part where Asa and Yuko have a conversation about saving when she gave her the shoes. It didn’t matter to Yuko how Asa was feeling in the moment because she just wanted to do what was right ensure that her heart was in the right place. Everything comes to Asa in that specific moment where she thinks to herself “I can do this too! I can save my friend!” Only to be swallowed up by the Bat Devil.
A miracle came into light by the single roaring sounds of Chain... Chainsaw Man entered the scene and sliced through the Bat Devil freeing Asa and Yuko from being completely taken in. Asa takes note of what happened during that point and looked towards the sigh of The Bat Devil. Where she noticed that it took on a new huge look in terms of appearances as it battled against The Chainsaw Man. Left in complete confusion as to why he would side with the humans despite being a devil.
Realizing he wants to be some kind of super hero, the devil decides to give him a choice between a student with a bright future or the seniors in a car. This scene in a way kind of reminded me of Spider-Man on the bridge when the Green Goblin gave him a choice on who to save. Which leaves you with this feeling as to what Denji was gonna do, and Fujimoto came with a surprise.
He moved right passed both choices to kill the evolved Bat Devil that stood in front of him, and both the student and the senior citizens in the car met a tragic fate which meant death. On the surface you’re left with the sinking feeling that why would do that Denji? and we come to find out that he killed the evolved devil and rushed in to save a cat that almost fell off the edge of the building.
Denji quickly remarked, “There was a cat too dude!” as he held it in it’s arms which was kind of reminiscing of the time when he saved Power’s cat back in Part 1 interestingly enough it was also against the Bat Devil too. The chapter comes to a close with a brief news report where reporters talked about Chainsaw Man’s act of Heroism of saving a cat from what they called “The Cockroach Devil.” as the cat meowed in the final panel.
Overall, I give this chapter of Chainsaw Man a Pure Perfection rating. If there is one thing about Tatsuki Fujmoto’s writing it’s that there are so many emotions you get to feel in a single chapter, and this one was no exception. The constant banter between Asa and Yoru about Yuko staying alive to the heartwarming flashback of Asa falling to the most crucial moments, and of course what we all waited for. The return of the mc himself, Denji aka Chainsaw Man. The cherry on top of this incredible chapter also ties into the chapter title Save The Cat which also parallels Asa and Denji simultaneously. Asa saving the cat in her flashback from getting slaughtered by a truck, and Denji rushing in to save a cat from falling off the battle. For the time being that’s all I gotta say about my thoughts on this chapter of Chainsaw Man, and soon I’ll drop my thoughts for Chapter 103 as I catch myself up to the latest one. Until then, I hope you all take care of yourselves out there.

BnHA Chapter 311: Hand Gun
Previously on BnHA: Horikoshi was all “thinkin’ about dropping in some woke analogies of the very real and very presently relevant issue of racial profiling idk what do you guys think” and then shrugged and did it without waiting for an answer, and ngl it was a bit sudden, but I’m here for it. All Might was all “DEKU YOU NEED TO EAT” and Deku was all “OKAY” and took his hero bento and went to go stand dramatically on a tower in the rain whilst having some highly anticipated Vestige flashbacks. OFA II was all, “sup, I guess I’m not Kacchan... OR AM I,” and ngl I think he is?? Alternate universes anybody?? Hello??? But anyway, so OFA the First a.k.a. Yoichi was all “remember that time you guys rescued me from my evil brother and Two took my hand and we Had A Moment?”, and Two and Three were all “ahh yeah good times”, and it was very nice and very, very gay. The chapter ended with it being very unclear if Two and Three have actually lent their power to Deku yet or not lmao. Y’all need to get your shit together dudes.
Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “what if I gave a random bad guy a fucking tommy gun that shoots nails” and jesus christ calm down son. The Hawksquad, a.k.a. SQUAWK as per @hotchocolatier, are all “time to drive aimlessly around town acting like Deku has a restraining order on us because that’s literally the best plan to combat the League we could come up with,” and I have no further comment. Hawks is all “idk about you guys but I want to know more about AFO and Tomura’s whole deal” and I can’t remember the last time I identified so strongly with one of these characters. All Might is all, “[EXPLODES???]”, and the chapter ends with that mysterious hot girl from the Tartarus breakout being all “HELLO I CAN TURN INTO A GUN AND I LITERALLY DON’T GIVE A FUCK” and (1) WOW, and (2) IT’S TRUE, SHE CAN, AND SHE REALLY DOESN’T. GODDAMN.
(ETA: so this wholly escaped my notice on the first go, and also has nothing to do with the chapter itself, but I only just realized that this chapter was scanlated by a new group, TCB Scans. they actually did a very good job, and I’m curious if they’ve found a new RAW provider, because the quality this week is actually crazy good in comparison to what we’ve been dealing with for the past few months. I’m gonna have to get caught up on what exactly happened here lol.)
so what will it be this week? more Vestige antics? more of Sad Nomad Deku standing on buildings and pretending like he’s some cool aloof antihero, as if he could fool us when we all know his hero backpack is secretly stuffed full with his nerd diaries and the remnants of all the hero bentos that All Might keeps giving him?? or, just putting it out there, just a crazy thought, but you don’t suppose we might actually cut back to U.A.? mmm. side-eyes emoji
maaaaaan I’m starting to get tired of this trend of beginning chapters by dropping in on random power-tripping civilians and/or Shindou lol. just once can we get a chapter that opens with someone I actually give a fuck about
oh at least Endeavor is here
A WHAT SUPPORT ITEM!??! HOLY SHIT DDLKJSLFKJL
lol somehow that’s more terrifying than bullets for me?? like I’m fully aware that bullets will fuck you up way worse and that in real life nail guns probably don’t work like this AT ALL and only have a range of like... hold up let me just google... up to 100 to 150 m/s and distances of up to 500m wait WHAT
okay wait. hold up. like I was expecting google to tell me nail guns only shoot a few feet at most, and instead the first search result is some CDC blog article that’s “dispelling” the “””myth””” -- please note my repeated sarcastic quotation marks -- that nail guns can fire 1400 feet per second, by explaining that actually they can fire anywhere from 315 ft/sec to 1,295 ft/sec, and that “it is in the pneumatic nail gun user’s best interest to handle these tools as if they were a firearm despite having a lower velocity” dlkjdslkjflkl
SO THAT SCENE IN IRON MAN 3 WHERE TONY RAIDS A HOME DEPOT AND BUYS A BUNCH OF RANDOM TOOLS AND SHIT AND GOES ON TO STAGE A ONE-MAN INVASION OF AN INTERNATIONAL TERRORIST’S FLORIDA MANSION HQ IS ACTUALLY TRUE. YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT THE FILM “HOME ALONE” IS ACTUALLY A DOCUMENTARY. “the Discovery Channel television program “Mythbusters” compared the penetration capacity of an airborne projectile shot from a pneumatic framing nail gun to that of a 9mm hand gun” HELLO YES AND A MERRY “WHAT THE FUCK” TO YOU AS WELL
anyway, so. there’s apparently a reason why the Number One hero, who can burn people with the intensity of a sun going supernova, is hiding here behind this concrete support column making frowny faces. nope. nuh uh. he ain’t about that. I don’t blame you buddy
so now he’s barrel rolling out of his hiding place and setting this dude THE FUCK ON FIRE because HELL NO. BAD ENOUGH I HAD TO WATCH THAT FUCKING MUSHROOM EPISODE LAST WEEK! YOU TAKE THAT SHIT SOMEWHERE ELSE
LOL look at his face
I know the context is actually him being all “I know I’m responsible for basically everything that happened and so that’s why I’m so grim and serious about this mission to set things right piece by piece,” but in my mind this pissed-off face is 100% all because this dude tried to shoot his eye out with a nail gun. look at that. you made him go full flame face again. beard and all. protecting his face so that it can hopefully melt any stray nails that get too close. nope nope nope
good lord. so what’s up next. let me guess the guy fighting Best Jeanist has like an atomic chainsaw or some shit
lol nope we’re just cutting back to Hawks and Jeanist chilling in the Jesla after they’ve wrapped things up
Jeanist has got some serious Groot energy you guys jesus christ he’s like 12 feet tall
oh snap someone threw a pipe at him now
today is just the chapter of Endeavor being assaulted by random DIY tools I guess
I mean, I get why they’re pissed at him obviously; I would be too lol. but tbh I also don’t really understand the “get out of here we don’t want your help” attitude that all of these people suddenly seem to have?? like it if were me, I would be fucking DEMANDING for him and the other heroes to be working round the clock to fix their stupid mess. I mean who else is gonna do it?? it’s their mess, I sure don’t want to be the one to clean it up instead. anyways but whatever lol
oh shit?
so they haven’t dropped the whole “OFA secret potentially gets revealed to the world” thing yet after all. that makes sense I suppose, it did seem like that whole thing wound up playing out a bit too easily
anyway so yeah
the locals are definitely none too happy. well at least Dabi’s got something to be cheerful about I guess
so now we’re cutting to the interior of the Jesla and they’re chitchatting about the current investigation
oh wow this actually makes a bit of sense now. so there was a reason they were keeping their distance from Deku
please note that even in this abstract Endeavor’s-Mental-Image-Of-Him panel, Deku’s eyes still don’t have the light in them anymore :( my poor son
also ftr I still think using Deku as bait in this particular sense is the shittiest idea ever ngl. like sure, let’s let the sixteen-year-old run around battling miscellaneous escaped prison convicts while we stay several kilometers away ON PURPOSE despite the fact that you’re using him as bait to draw out the Big Bad, who just a reminder can destroy anything with a mere touch and who you were all basically helpless against. what exactly are you all planning to do if Tomura or one of the other League VIPs actually shows up to retrieve him?? are you even keeping tabs on him at all in real time?? jesus
(ETA: well that escalated quickly lol.)
Horikoshi is all of a sudden dropping whole pages of exposition here and I can’t be bothered to summarize this lol so just,
a big fat YES to what Jeanist said, though. that’s why imo they would have been better off laying a trap at U.A. rather than just wandering around out in the open. I assume they’re trying to cut their potential losses because U.A. is full of students (and civilians), but those students also happen to be more capable than pretty much anyone else in the manga at this point. and tbh they’re already in life-threatening danger regardless of how things play out from here on, so they might as well at least try to use the few advantages they have right now. U.A. is almost certainly going to come under siege at some point anyway, so they might as well prepare for it
lol I don’t think I’m explaining this very well because I don’t have the patience right now to break it down point by point like it really ought to be, so for now I’ll just say that imo “U.A. siege” stands a good chance of being the eventual endgame even now, and so this whole “Deku runs around being bait” arc is really just killing time until then lol. like and subscribe for more rambling nonsensical takes such as this. maybe next time I’ll even put it all into one single sentence for maximum meandering senior citizen rant value
well it’s nice that they’re finally talking about all of this I guess
we readers have known all of this for months now but this confirms the heroes are finally caught up. ALSO, Hawks is so fucking smart, as always. kinda wonder if things would have played out differently if All Might had let him in on the secret a bit earlier. probably that’s why Horikoshi made damn sure they didn’t find out until after the War arc lol
OH MY GOD YOOOOOO HAWKS OUT HERE ASKING THE REAL QUESTIONS
“anyone else wondering why AFO bothered to raise Tomura as his fake heir for fifteen years when he was secretly planning on taking over his body the whole time” YES, [raises hand] lmao Hawks where the hell were you when I was debating this “AFO is the final villain and Tomura is just his pawn” thing on multiple occasions over the past several years lol
lmao seeing them debate the metaphysics of OFA and all of its mystical bullshit is seriously surreal you guys
JEANIST HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT MY META TAG I HAVE WRITTEN SO MANY ESSAYS. I ACTUALLY WAS PLANNING ON WRITING ANOTHER ESSAY ABOUT THE THING THAT I’M PRETTY SURE HAWKS IS ABOUT TO BRING UP, BUT I NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT WHOOPS, BUT MAYBE I WILL NOW LOL LET’S SEE HOW IT GOES
yes!!
WHICH AFO FUCKING ENSURED HE WOULD BE BY LITERALLY PLANNING OUT EVERY LAST DETAIL OF HIS FAMILY TRAGEDY, FROM SECRETLY GIVING TENKO THE QUIRK TO MAKING SURE NO CIVILIANS OR HEROES WOULD HELP HIM UNTIL AFO FINALLY STEPPED IN. I’M 1000% CONVINCED THIS IS THE CASE YOU GUYS. NOT JUST BECAUSE I’M NOT A FAN OF “THE WORLD IS A FUNDAMENTALLY SHITTY PLACE, ACTUALLY” TAKES BECAUSE MISTER ROGERS TOLD ME TO ALWAYS LOOK FOR THE HELPERS, BUT ALSO BECAUSE IT LITERALLY JUST DOESN’T MAKE A LICK OF SENSE OTHERWISE. THEIR ENTIRE HOUSE CAVED IN FFS, YOU’RE TELLING ME NONE OF THE NEIGHBORS FUCKING OVERHEARD THAT SHIT AND WENT “UMMMMMMMMM” AND WENT TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON?? “DIDN’T THERE USED TO BE A HOUSE HERE, AND LIKE A WHOLE FAMILY, AND SHIT?”
LIKE I’M SORRY, BUT IT’S ONE THING TO SAY IT’S REALISTIC THAT NOT A SINGLE PERSON WOULD ATTEMPT TO HELP THE WANDERING TRAUMATIZED CHILD AFTERWARDS (WHICH I DISAGREE WITH AS WELL BUT AT LEAST THAT’S MORE SUBJECTIVE), AND IT’S A WHOLE OTHER THING TO ARGUE THAT IT’S REALISTIC THAT NO ONE WOULD BE FUCKING NOSY. LIKE THAT’S A WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL OF “THAT’S NOT HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS” ENTIRELY LOL. anyway tl;dr AFO is a piece of shit and Tomura’s entire worldview is based on a magnificently intricate and savagely cruel lie more at 11
anyway so after all that ranting it looks like that wasn’t even what Hawks was talking about after all lol. I just went off for absolutely no reason lol oh well. instead it seems that Hawks is suggesting that Tomura’s carefully cultivated hatred might not yet have actually reached “can defeat OFA” levels even after all of that trauma. interesting!
don’t mind me, I’m just sitting here while my brain furiously scrambles to put together all the parallels between Hawks and Tomura that it never noticed before until exactly this second. like I’m not even sure that was the intent here at all (I need to check out another translation or two lol), but regardless my mind decided that now would be the perfect time to make the connection between these two twenty-somethings who both had horrific childhoods and spent years being molded by their respective manipulative guardians, and developed eerily similar “laugh at everything because what else can you do” coping mechanisms to deal with it all hmmmmm
anyway so they were talking more about their strategy, but now all of a sudden Jeanist’s phone is beeping??
AND NOW WE’RE CUTTING AWAY TO ALL MIGHT AND HIS MIGHTMOBILE DAMMIT so that means the call to Jeanist was actually something important then!! WAS IT BAKUGOU OMG. DOES YOUR INTERN WANT A WORD FFFKLFSJK please it’s been so long I just need a little crumb or two to tide me over lmao have mercy
anyway so All Might’s following the GPS tracking device he’s apparently got planted on Deku (which in my conspiracy headcanons he’s actually had for a long time now, like since before DvK2 lol because HOW ELSE WOULD HAVE HAVE KNOWN THAT THEY WERE FIGHTING EACH OTHER IN GROUND BETA, PEOPLE) and thinking angsty thoughts about Deku’s sucky life
AND NOW ALL MIGHT’S PHONE IS RINGING TOO?? BAKUGOU HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE YOU CALLING. “WHERE ARE YOU HIDING THE NERD GODDAMMIT”
OMG
lol is he under attack or is he just finally giving All Might the slip like we all know he SECRETLY PLANNED TO ALL ALONG oh my poor dumb angstmuffin
OMG AHHHHHHH WHAT
DID ALL MIGHT JUST FUCKING DIE LMAO NO OF COURSE NOT, BUT WHAT
WHAT IS HAPPENING OMG
THE FUCK IS THAT. AT LEAST IT’S NOT A NAIL
OH IT’S A SPEAKER!! OMG DID THEY TAKE ALL MIGHT HOSTAGE
“THEY’RE HERE” WELP, TIME TO SEE JUST HOW SHITTY THIS SHITTY PLAN REALLY IS LOL
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
SHE!!!!
omg. AND OVERHAUL JUST CHILLING THERE IN THE BACKGROUND ALL “WHAT DO YOU EVEN WANT ME TO DO I’VE GOT NO FUCKING ARMS” YEAH GOOD RIDDANCE LOL
DOES THIS GIRL HAVE ONE GIANT LEG OR WHAT, LIKE WHAT’S THE DEAL HERE
-- HOLD UP WAIT, THE GUN IS HER ARM, HOLY SHIT SHE CAN TURN INTO A GUN -- OKAY HOLD UP BECAUSE I NEED TO SAY THAT IN BIGGER TEXT BECAUSE !!!!
YOU GUYS, THE COOL TARTARUS GIRL IS BACK AND HER QUIRK IS “CAN TURN INTO A FUCKING GUN.” THIS IS NOT A DRILL!! MY BEST GIRL MT. GUN IS FINALLY BACK ON THE SCENE WITH HER QUIRK “CAN DO ANYTHING A GUN CAN DO.” “I HEARD Y’ALL WENT AND NAMED ONE OF YOUR HEROES ‘GUNHEAD’ EVEN THOUGH HIS HEAD ISN’T EVEN A GUN, LIKE WTF IS UP WITH THAT LET ME SHOW YOU HOW IT’S DONE” DANG OKAY
lmao only fifteen pages this week, and STILL NO KACCHAN (THEN WHO WAS PHONE!!!), but man I don’t even care because finally we’ve got a cliffhanger that’s actually deserving of being a cliffhanger! hot dog. okay then
