My picks for who MJF’s temporary replacement best friend should be while Adam is recovering, because he should absolutely get one, ranging from realistic to just dreams of mine:
Britt - Max misses Adam and is desperate for any connection to him. Insanely, he and Britt have never really talked. He seeks her out and asks if she wants to hang out. They immediately hit it off. When Adam comes back they’re best friends and is maybe a little bit jealous of Britt
Max Caster (+Bowens & Billy) - we need to bring this dynamic onto the show. We just do. They’re too good together not to. Also I really want to see MJF reluctantly scissor the three of them
Paul Wight - I mean, I don’t think I even have to explain this one
Best Friends - Max is sad about not having his best friend around, and has been sulking for weeks. The four (or five-six depending on if they hear my prayers and Hook joins, and if Danhausen comes back) of the Best Friends show up to try to take him in. At first he’s mean to them and doesn’t want to give them the time of day, but they eventually win him over. I love the idea of this dynamic so much, plus he’d have a big group to have his back against BCG
Even just Kris Statlander on her own because I would love to see them together so much
Willow Nightingale - honestly just because I know she would make him smile and I love that. Max deserves to smile and have fun
Hikaru Shida - I honestly think she works and has chemistry with everyone. I’d like to see them together, even just for a very brief time
The point is, MJF needs another friend and I think this babyface run he’s having is such a good opportunity to give him really great interactions with other faces before he has to go back to being a prick again.

“Y/n your phone is ringing again.”
Lifting your head from where it was resting against the beach chair you picked it up glancing at the lit-up screen. A shot of pain went through your heart once more seeing Tyler’s name on the screen.
“Tyler again?” Your best friend Renee asked as you nodded silently ignoring the call and placing the phone back down readjusting the sunglasses on your head. “Why don’t you just talk to him, hear what he wants to say and then be done with everything who knows maybe you’ll feel better.”
“I don’t know Ree it’s been hard enough avoiding him these last few weeks; I don’t think I’m ready yet.”
“That’s understandable babes but at least figure out what you’re going to do especially with MJF asking you out for drinks more than once in the last week.”
“Uhg don’t remind me I’m thankful he told me, but I just don’t want to go out or spend any time with him, ya know what I mean?”
“Maybe he has a thing for you I mean you’re a total hottie so I could see it.” “Maxwell is not my type and I just hope he realizes that.”
Renee smiles winking at you as she leans back in her chair grabbing your phone when it rings again then shuts it off.
“Figure it out babes.” Staying quiet you settled back into your seat thinking maybe she was right maybe you should finally talk to Tyler just so you could get closure. The rest of the afternoon your mind plays back everything over the last couple of weeks. When you walked out on Tyler you didn’t know where to go but thankfully Renee was there to help you pick up the pieces. Tony was willing to give you a little time off work using an injury from a backstage jumping to explain your absence. The first few days were spent just crying in Renee and Jon’s guest room trying to get the pain to ease even a little. Your dreams tortured you at night with images of him, more than once you woke up feeling like he was right there with you. His arm heavy across your waist the faint scent of him on the t-shirt you couldn’t bear to give back. As more time passed it got a little easier at least with doing everyday activities, Tyler had blown up your phone every chance he could, but you ignored the messages. Now you were seriously considering talking to him just so your heart could have the closure you needed. Maybe then it wouldn’t take so long for your heart to heal. Returning back to your hotel room you stood outside the shower waiting for the water to heat up staring at the text box. ‘Okay y/n you can do this just send the message and be done with it.’
Typing quickly before you chickened out you had the message ready, it was straight to the point.
‘Tyler I’m reaching out to let you know I’m willing to talk. I’ll meet you at the arena an hour before show time. I expect the truth.’
Pressing send after staring at it for another few minutes you finally place the phone down and get a shower. Despite not having a match or being on tv tonight you were going to be backstage to hang out with Renee and watch Jon’s match. Stepping out you made yourself dry off and get dressed before daring to look at your phone, you hated that he still had the power to make your heart skip a beat seeing his name. Ignoring all the other messages from him you looked at the most recent.
‘Okay I’ll be there.’
Grabbing your bag and slinging it over your shoulder you head down to your rental car. Part of you was scared to hear what he had to say. Didn’t want to hear anymore about how you were a bet and everything you had envisioned for your relationship was nothing more than one sided. The thought you shared your deepest secrets with him all your hopes, dreams. Knowing inside that it wasn’t real or at least that his feelings weren’t in the same place as yours; left a sour taste in your mouth that wouldn’t leave.
Pulling into the parking lot of the arena you lock your rental and head inside, you knew he’d already be in the catering area. You’d always meet in catering when one of you rode with a friend or had some other business to handle first. Sending a text to Renee letting her know what was going on and why you weren’t in Jon’s locker room. Place your phone on silent before making your way down the hall. You could already hear some voices and slowly stepped inside, almost immediately your eyes landed on Tyler. His head lifting just as quickly almost as if he could sense you were there. Motioning for him to follow you stepped back out not bothering to wait to see if he got up. Slowly going down the other hall you could hear his feet following you, neither of you speaking as you turned this way and that to find a private space.
Coming to an empty and partly lit hallway you stopped taking a moment to compose yourself before turning to look at him. The sight caused your heart to ache, Tyler’s eyes had dark circles underneath them from apparent lack of sleep and his hair was messier than usual. He looked as bad as she had been feeling lately.
“I’m going to be honest I wasn’t expecting you to answer any of my texts.” His voice filled the silence, and you could hear the exhaustion evident in the way he spoke.
“I wasn’t going to, but you wouldn’t stop blowing my phone up and I just.. Realized that I really need the closure. So go ahead say whatever.”
“Look.” Tyler rubbed a hand over his face and leaned against the wall looking at the floor.
“I don’t know what all MJF told you or whatever and yes, I know it was him because the fucker texted me about it. Our relationship was real, I meant everything I have ever told you it’s not what you’re thinking.”
“Tyler, I’m not an idiot so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t treat me like one, I heard the recordings of you talking with Ethan. ‘Are you sure you’re going to be able to keep it up much longer? Of course, I can she’s completely clueless of everything. She trusts me more than anyone, she’s even told me herself.’ That doesn’t sound like it wasn’t still a bet when we were dating.”
You repeated the messages that swam through your head on the daily since you left him. It hurt you hearing that and feeling like you weren’t of importance to him when he meant the world and more to you.
“Okay the truth the whole truth, when I first came up to you it was only because of a bet with Ethan. If I could get you to talk with me, he’d get a few of the things I had my eye on but didn’t want to use the money because I couldn’t justify it.”
You listened and watched as he fidgeted and shifted on his feet his nerves trying to get the better of him.
“However, as we talked more and eventually got together the bet wasn’t even on my mind anymore. I told Ethan it was dropped and no longer important when we started getting closer. He didn’t even get me the items I was looking at because I was having such a good time with you. I know I hurt you and I’m sorry.”
Tyler turned to finally look at you as he stepped closer, his hands hanging at his sides.
“I love you y/n I know it may not seem like that but I swear to you our relationship was real and I meant everything I have ever told you.
“You should have been honest with me from the beginning I’m a human not some game you can play while you’re bored. Even if we hadn’t got together even if we just stayed friends that’s not how you begin any type of relationship. I have feelings and emotions hearing those voice notes hurt me so badly finding out that you only came up to me because of a stupid bet. It makes me feel like all this time was nothing but a waste.”
You whispered the last part feeling the emotions of the last few weeks building up inside, no tears would fall given that you’d cried so much lately. Tyler couldn’t stand seeing the look on your face, the pain and hurt was evident. The fact he had made you feel this way hit him with such a wave of guilt.
“I know baby and I’m so sorry I don’t know what else to say apart from I’m an idiot and I never meant for you to get hurt. I didn’t think you’d ever find out about it, not that it’s an excuse for what I did to you. I know I shouldn’t ask but do you think it’s possible we can work through this? Even if we need take it slow.”
Looking at Tyler you thought for a few minutes, leaving him in agonizing silence while he waited for you to answer.
“Maybe, I need to wrap my head around this all but I’m not saying no. First thing you can do is come with me to see Maxwell.” Turning you made your way back towards catering with Tyler walking behind you a small flicker of hope in his heart. The two of you searched everywhere before finally finding MJF in a backstage interview, when he spotted you, a smirk crossed his face. Which quickly turned to a frown when he spotted Tyler beside you. Waiting until he was finished you watched as he made everyone leave the area and turn back towards you.
“Well, what an unpleasant surprise I did not expect to see the two of you around each other ever again. So, is this why you’ve rejected all my offers for drinks? You’ve accepted his apology.” “What’s going on between myself and Tyler is private. I appreciate you telling me about everything but even if I hadn’t spoken to Tyler today, I’m just not interested in you that way. I’d rather just be coworkers.”
“Wait you’ve been asking her out?” Tyler looked at you before glaring at MJF who shrugged his shoulders. “Yeah, I have been so what.” “Those conversations you recorded were from months ago when we first began talking, it wasn’t until Y/n and I started having a few issues that you decided to tell her everything. You’ve been trying to get her to break up with me just so you could try and weasel your way in.” “Anyone with taste would know I’m a far better choice over any other man in this damn company if she’s too stupid to understand that well it’s her loss.” Before either of you could react, Tyler’s fist swung out connecting with the other man’s jaw the few people that were lingering outside the door quickly rushed in. Separating the two of them you grabbed Tyler’s arm and tugged him away from where MJF was sitting on the floor holding his mouth and wiping the blood off his bottom lip. “Tyler please don’t.” Looking at you he huffed and led you away with a gentle nudge on your lower back ignoring the shouting from Maxwell. Together the two of you walked towards Jon’s locker room and stopped outside the door, Tyler taking your hand in his lightly. “I don’t know what’s going to happen between us, but I want you to know I’ll do whatever I can to prove myself to you again. I love you y/n and that’s not going to stop.” He whispered pressing a kiss to your forehead than turned and walked away, he didn’t want you to say anything else right now he was going to let you have your time. He was determined to win you back and you could bet on that.

hi i was wondering if you could do aew boys reacting to you getting injured this is my first request. i love you storys🩷
OF COURSE SWEETHEART and thank you so much for the kind words
AEW Stars React to You Getting Injured:
Pairings: Hook X Reader, Eddie Kingston X Reader, Dante Martin X Reader, Ricky Starks X Reader, MJF X Reader, Kenny Omega X Reader, Daniel Garcia X Reader
Word Count: 1.1K
Supreme Speaks: hiiiiii...sorry for the spam for the past couple of days (just wanna get these requests out and make room for more)...THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND LOVE. thank you to @aew190 for the request. also the reader is unspecified so gender neutral (tailor it to your liking). Please remember that you are loved and appreciated.
Warning: not proofread
Taglist: @wwenhlimagines @hooks-martin @aew190 @hookerforhook @sheinthatfandom @eddie-kingstons-wifey
Backstory:
You were in a match (with an opponent of your choosing)
You were about to attempt a diving move (or signature move)
But then your opponent countered it; causing you to slip and hit your shoulder first extremely hard
You felt immediate pain and laid on the mat for a little bit as the ref checked on you
You decided to continue the match and you won, making the crowd cheer
Clutching your shoulder, you were able to walk yourself to the back where your boyfriend/best friend sat
Hook:
Man is worried; but it’s concerning to those around him
Like this man has not moved, blinked, nothing since you took that bump
Even though it wasn’t that bad of a bump, you dislocated your shoulder
He just kept looking at how you clutched your arm in pain
Hook lightly hugged your other side and whispered “As long as you’re okay, everything is fine.”
This man would be the best nurse; you never would have to lift a damn finger
Hook carries your bags, has all your favorite drinks and snacks in his bookbag, and never complains
Gives frequent updates to The Lads
“They lifted their arm today….to throw a pillow at me. But still, progress.”
Will help you gain your strength through workouts and therapy
Eddie Kingston:
Man is worried but he runs around like a chicken with his head cut off
Cussing everyone and they momma out, “Fuck you, fuck you, hi Ishii, and FUCK YOU CLAUDIO”
After figuring out the injury was not as bad as it could have been, Eddie immediately becomes that nurse that will do their job while complaining
You: Can you help me put this hoodie on?
Eddie: Oh my gawd, you are so needy….but yeah fo sure I gotchu
He doesn’t like to see you in pain; will distract you with old wrestling or him just going off about people
Despite him saying that he doesn’t like you or want to help you, he will never leave your side and will do anything to comfort you during this
(Man will tell jokes but never lies)
Will act like everything he does is no problem or it means nothing, but it does mean something to both you and him
Is secretly planning for revenge
Kenny Omega:
THIS SWEETHEART WOULD BE CRUSHED
His heart would literally fall apart as he realized what happened
Keeps watching the match to make sure nothing else happens
When you come backstage, he already talked to Tony about taking you off TV for a little bit
Gives you all the time and attention in the world
Wears your merch for support
Gets online to find a specialist for your injury
Will not leave your side; Kenny might actually move into your house temporarily to help out
“Why the hell is all your cups so damn high? This is not safe for a short injured demon like yourself.”
Kenny will spend all his days playing video games with you, helping you around the house, and getting you back in shape for the ring
All to make sure that you’re okay and safe
Daniel Garcia:
Okay; hear me out
Man would freak out and then once learning that your injury is not that severe, would turn up
I’m talking man would act like you’re not hurt and drag you to every social gathering he could
Shit might throw you a recovery party
“One club, another club, another club, brunch, another club.”
It’s his way of comforting you; as a person who was injured, he was deprived of socializing with others
He doesn’t want that for you; he wants you to recognize that just because of your injuries, doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on your friends
Will do anything if you ask him though
Daniel will also FaceTime you a lot so that you’re not missed throughout the locker room;
“Everyone say hi to Y/N, now everyone boo them cause they're not here.”
Ricky Starks:
Man is worried at first because he’s fought numerous injuries before
More or so worried about the aftermath of it for you; doesn’t want you to get left behind
Instantly thinks of ways for you to be on TV without being in the ring and pitches them on your behalf
Ricky: So then, Y/N interrupts them and is like “Hell No” like Brandi to Jade
TK: Ricky I-
Ricky: Wait your turn…..jackass
Is forever right beside you in case you need anything; doesn’t want you to feel alone
Will go with you to all your consultations and stuff, bring you all your favorite food and stuff
I also think Ricky would be the one to stop everything just to check on you; where it’s over the phone or in person
Also, if you have a cast or a brace, Ricky will bedazzle it in your sleep
Dante Martin:
THIS BABY
HE SUCH A BABY
As he is injured and his brother suffered from numerous injuries, he was instantly feeling bad for you
Lets you know that you are not alone
Sits backstage with you as The Lads got matches and storylines; talks about anything and nothing
I think (because of the fact Dante and I were born in the same year) Dante would definitely be cracking jokes about this
“At least we got each other during this. I got one leg and you got one arm, we’re practically one full person.”
Dude will do anything to make you smile;
Feels more content and happy with you beside him
Ya’ll are constantly pushing each other to go to physical therapy and recovery
if ya’ll weren’t dating beforehand, you definitely are now
MJF:
Instantly roasts you on Twitter
….Idk why you expected anything else…
Anyways, he would definitely take care of you by giving care and attention
While roasting you to your face; you are never safe from this man’s wrath
“You look like death…..NO YOU LIKE OPTIMUS PRIME WHEN HIS ARM GOT SLICED OFF AHAHA”
Will buy you unnecessary and extreme items for your recovery; but claims that he needs the state-of-the-art towel warmer (really it's for you)
ALSO the man will buy you a Burberry scarf and tell you it’s a fake, but it's actually real
I think he genuinely feels bad that you are injured and will try to make your life easier during this time in his own way
If he can’t be there for you, he’s bringing you on the road to keep an eye on you; will never leave you alone tbh
To others, Max just doesn’t really care for you but you and him both know that he’s trying his best and that’s all that matters

DYNAMITE 1/11/23
DAMMIT, MAX!
Firstly, we need to address something here, and its Matt Taven’s wonderful giraffe hoodie. Maybe down the line, Taven, can use a kick, and call it the giraffe kick. Then we can get a Giraffe kick vs. Kangaroo kick match. These aren’t just beautiful fingers typing these words you know.
The big question of the night was, who will MJF choose as his tag team partners?
We had a surprise appearance from Adam Cole via virtual call. He thinks Max should pick Samoa Joe as his partner, but Max is fond of this idea. The Man in the Devil Mask would interrupt the broadcast as his presence was looming over the show. Since the attack on Jay White, has this masked individual done anything else besides pop up on our screens? He needs to do something a lot more threatening.
Orange Cassidy defended his International Title against Claudio Castagnoli in a great opening match. Claudio showed off his impressive strength throughout. At one point he put Orange into a chokehold and swung him around. Orange won with a beautiful hurricanrana. The celebration was short lived as Jon Moxley returned to give Cassidy a beating. This sets up Orange Cassidy vs. Jon Moxley at Full Gear, and it also looks like a feud between with Wheeler Yuta and Hook is starting.
The ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship’s were on the line as The Young Bucks/Adam Page defended against The Mogul Embassy. I really didn’t care for this match. I’ve said it before, the ROH titles should stay on Ring of Honor. I mean, I can’t even tell you who the other wrestlers were outside of Brian Cage. To my surprise, my prayers were answered. The belts are off the Bucks and Page, and the belts can return to the show where belong on. Page chased after Swerve Strickland as the two will meet at Full Gear. Matt was very upset after the loss and took it out on inanimate object's. Later on, The Bucks would take out their frustrations on Kenny Omega as they were not afraid to remind Omega of Jericho's past. Kenny as some work to do to get his friends and Jericho on the same page.
Daddy Magic/Cool Ange fought Jericho/Omega later on. Callis was on commentary with his family beh-WAIT, is that Kyle Flecher? Did I miss something? I thought Don kicked him out of the faction. Anyway, this match was short, so we could get to the meat of the story. In two weeks, it will be Kyle/Hobbs/Takeshita, taking on Jericho/Omega and…Paul Wright, in a Street Fight. I joked that it would be Wright last week, but I think he will work well in a Street Fight. I know some people will take issue with him being used, but I like when Paul is used like a beast.
Adam Copeland finally speared Christian Cage, after his former friend promised to snap his neck and leave him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. I still think Adam will come out of Full Gear as a heel, even though I didn’t expect him to lay his hands on Christian tonight.
Tony Khan makes rare appearance on TV to make another big announcement. It feels like these announcements are a bit excessive at this point. The reveal here is that AEW will be returning to the UK at Wembley Stadium next year. I didn’t get a chance this year to go , so I might just buy a ticket come December 1st.
Hikaru Shida defended her title in very good bout against Willow Nightingale. As I wrote previously, Shida had poor matches last week, and I’m glad to see her back on form. Julia Hart appeared post match to lure Willow, but Skye Blue came out and turned full heel, but it's a trick! She is actually a babyface. She misted Julia with the blue mist. Unfortunately she missed her face and her neck.
After some backstage segments, it's revealed that The Acclaimed will be MJF's partners against The Golden Elite. MJF wore Acclaimed inspired gear decked out with a pink burberry scarf. The match was about MJF getting his hands on White and getting his belt back, while Max Caster wanted to scissor MJF. I thought at this point, MJF would get his belt back, but lost when he was pinned by White. Post match, Caster took a title shot to the head from White as he pushed MJF out of the way. This led to a reluctant Maxwell scissoring The Acclaimed.
The show set up a few matches for Full Gear. Outside of that, you got the payoff with MJF teaming with The Acclaimed. I was expecting a bit more from this show, but I'll see where some of the stories end up before diving into any real major criticism.

My Highlights of Full Gear 2023
And we're back with the wrestling.
Full Gear has a lot of moving pieces looking to build; a variety of title matches, grudge matches and friends fighting one another.
Let's see how what I enjoyed
Spoilers for the PPV of course
Buy In
Stoke staring daggers at Eddie while the crowd still pops for him
'He listens to anime soundtracks' - okay Stokely's a heel in my mind now anime soundtracks slap
In wrestling lore, Anne Hathaway is Stokely's adopted sister XD
That overhead belly to belly into the turnbuckle was so fucking clean
GOODNESS that guitar crack into Sonjay (for a retired backroom staff member Sonjay always takes a lot of bumps)
Ortiz and Eddie together makes me wonder, Santana for next ROH champ?
Eddie's commemorative popping the crowd with Renee - but he was too busy cussing out Stoke to cuss out RJ
I think we don't appreciate enough that the Blackpool Combat Club as a faction exist outside of alignment; all four dabble in heels and yet Claudio is the face against Buddy, Bryan is a face for the Continental Classic, but Mox and Yuta are heels against OC and HOOK (surprised we didn't have a FTW title match here)
This match slaps as well, Claudio and Mr Rhea Ripley are just not human
Cheeky Nandos Kick foreshadowing
Gunns' entrance still slaps, it's perfect and it also elevates BCG when they use it together
In this house we chant 'JOE!' repeatedly
MJF with 365 days on his robe
LA Lakers attire too
'I'm a poor' sign - who isn't these days bud?
Gunns have been flying around everywhere in this match
ADAM COLE BAYBAY!
Leg injury angle adds to the drama too
Main Card
Starting with a big trios match
A fucking children's choir doing Christian Cage's entrance (with a new tron)
I mean 'he comes more often than herpes' is apt for Ric Flair
Adam Copeland with Darby's paint, and those coats
Crowd continuing Metalingus
You can tell when two wrestlers have trained together, the synergy is there
Darby, just. Why?
Darby Allin loves his spine as much as Kota Ibushi loves his neck
He's climbing Everest AFTER THIS???
Nick Wayne's heel development is almost as good as Dominik Mysterio's I must admit
Clever from Christian climbing under the ring to sweep Adam and then lure Sting out to give Darby no options
It was of course a tease, but it was probably wise to keep Copeland and Christian apart all match, save it for Revolution or Winter is Coming
Sting getting an ovation
It felt quite rushed, but OC going over was the right call
I like that Shida has been using a lot of colour to counter Toni's black and white
Kingston putting his titles on the line definitely raises the stakes for the Continental Classic
Brody and Bill staring each other down at the start of the match
MEAT Chants are still alive
Malakai just flung that ladder into Cash
Suicide Dive into a Ladder!?
Red Hart, Sky Blue and Purple Cobras
Hart still has an amazing moonsault
That was a great snap for Code Blue
I thought Sky would take it but good for Julia
Billy Boy Bird is All Elite and he still has Elevated Bruv
Swerve gets the Nana Dance with a trope Entrance
Hangman didn't even wait for the Entrance
I've been guilty of stapling myself in my youth (I didn't realise the 'metal face' is what makes the ends bend and wanted to see for myself) so I know that hurts like a motherfucker
He's fucking drinking his blood!
Swerve's Killshot instincts have awakened
DVD on a Cinder Block!
PILEDRIVER ON THE TOP OF THE BARRICADE!?
TOMBSTONE ON A BARBED WIRE CHAIR!
I do love that spot when someone beats 10 by rolling out the ring (this time dragged)
And the Chain comes back
I don't think you can't call that a match, that was a WAR
GIVE THAT MAN A BELT, GIVE THAT MAN THE WORLD TITLE BELT
Omega selling a story with sentiment
Kenny you need to rename it something other than 'You Can't Escape' because buddy they can escape
Bucks did the low blow
Jericho kicked out of the BTE Trigger
Choices of V Trigger
Matt Jackson OWA
BCG with the mocking limp
MJF with the ambulance return spot
Jay White's heel work has been great throughout
Nigel literally hiding in the corner
The table collapsed and Max hit the elbow drop anyway on pure ground
TOPE CUTTER!?
Conclusion There was a lot of great wrestling on this card.
However, between the opener and the TBS title match it did feel like some matches were very rushed; OC/Moxley was a complete sprint, same with Storm/Shida, and the Ladder Match felt rather messy to try and contain all the spots they wanted. Also TK seriously, I get Toni has done a massively over reinvention but I am begging you to let Shida successfully defend a title in front of a PPV crowd, for god's sake man.
I didn't quite like the Jets beating the Bucks either, with Ibushi signed there's not much reason for their team to exist and now they have an anytime tag title shot. I guess it does end Kenny's PPV losing streak but still.
And I must say I was on the fence about the Main Event, I get using drama to narrate the match but the leg injury did end up weakening Jay White's very strong build that he couldn't beat a one-legged MJF, and too much shenanigans leave that for every Roman Reigns defense in the last year (all 5 of them).
But on the plus side, some amazing storytelling, some electrifying spots, the TBS championship being given to a young and deserving talent, and just an all timer brutal war of a match. It's not the strongest of AEW's current strong PPV runs but it's still pretty damn strong.
Match of the Night: Texas Death Match Best Entrance: The Patriarchy's children's choir just beats the Nana Dance trope Best Attire: Sting, Darby and Adam Copeland just ekes out Statlander's Globogym Purple Cobras outfit Best Performance: Hangman/Swerve tied Spot of the Night: So much of the Texas Death Match could've gone on here but I'm giving it to MJF's over the top rope and out the ring cutter because I did not see that coming

AEW Dynamite 06/28/23 Review
Jon Moxley vs Tomhiro Ishii
2 great talent. Im interested in seeing if AEW will play ok the Chaos vs BCC storyline we saw start at New Japan Resurgence.
A solid opening to the episode. I wasnt anticipating the angle until after the end of the match, but seeing Eddie make a surprise entrance as an oppurtunity to attack Claudio. I assume in hopes Mox would be too busy with his natch to interfere.
After the commercial break it seems Eddie has calmed down only in that he's not actively approaching Claudio. Instead shoosing to stare at him fron across the ring.
Mox gets the win but its its obvios theres syill tension with him and Eddie Kingston.
Parking Lot Segment
This story between MJF and Adam Cole is going exactly where I think its gonna go.
MJF is going to try and and turn Adam Cole heel, and Cole will try the to the same to MJF conversly turning him Face.
BCC segment with Renee
This was pretty much for Eddie to explain why he went out during Mox's match. I would call it a little selfish for Eddie to expect mox to all of a sudden not want Mox to hang around Claudio.
Orange Cassidy, El Hijo del Vikingo, and Keith Lee vs Jericho Appreciation Society (Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard, and Angelo Parker)
2.Oh havent been on TV for a while I dont think, long enough for me to actually be excited to see them again.
I'm also happy to see El Hijo del Vikingo back on Dynamite, loved Forbidden Door, but I will say there was a distinct lack of Lucha.
Solid match. Tony really just says all babyfaces are friends. I think that's fine.
Hungbucks Dark Order backstage segment
Oooo drama between the Dark Order and Hangman. It makes total sense for Dark Order to be upset with Hangman, especially since the bucks always seem to disappear every time Hangman is in trouble. I'm excited to see what happens with their match.
Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara backstage segment
I didn't have much to say about their match on Sunday. I noticed that they didn't really progress anything regarding Sammy and Jericho, and neither did this segment.
Dark Order vs The Elite
6 AEW originals so I'm very happy to see this match.
I really hope we see a healthy showing of the dark order recruitment specialist.
So I'm not expecting Dark Order to win, and neither am I expecting Hangman and The Bucks to stop tagging together anytime soon, so with that, it is possible Dark Order could be using this opportunity to return. To their roots as villains.
It feels like a possibility with how willing Uno is to attack Hangman while he's on the apron.
Hangman is finally ready to take his opposing team seriously, and he ends up being pinned for a Newark fall the fans were really into.
Just when I typed that John Silver reversed the Buckshot Lariat into his own pin attempt for the second closest near fall in the match.
Adam Page reluctantly pins for the win.
So, instead of giving us more Dark Order, the BCC decides to use this moment to attack the Elite. We do get something though as it seems Dark Order is choosing not to do anything for Hangman. Even Kongston is out here to fight off the BCC.
Looks like Forbidden Door wasn't the last we seen of Don either since him and his new son Konosuke Takeshita are out here to be apart of Jon's official challenge for BLOOD AND GUTS.
I'm excited for Blood and Guts forsure. I'm not sure if it's just going to be Eddie instead of Kenny on the side of the Elite, but if so there's definitely room to add another player for each team. Especially since it seems Don's whole character is to be an Antagonist for Kenny's story.
There's a lot of ways this story could go, and I'm glad there are a lot of different threads that connect to the drama each character has had so far in AEW.
Another parking lot segment with MJF and Adam Cole.
I like MJF's generic white boy line referring to Roderick Strong.
Also confirmed MJF doesn't watch Dynamite
Jungle Boy Jack Perry Promo
Now that he's a Heel Jack Perry wears sunglasses. I guess now that we have MJF to do the Tag Team storyline, and Christian is on Collision, we need someone to just go out there and talk shit for a whole segment.
Never mind, we're getting a youpeople promo.
After talking about Hook for a minute, Hook makes his entrance, and Perry hightales it out of the ring.
We cut to back stage where Jack Perry barely escapes in his get awar car
Sammy Guevara Sign Promo
He's cutting a promo on sting. I like how they are able to use this as a way to both; let Sammy cut a promo and get the Advertisements out the way.
Ruby Soho vs Alexia Nicole (Who didn't get a lower third)
This was supposed to be a match against Britt Baker, so I'm not expecting this to be a very competitive match. We'll probably see Ruby use this as more of an angle to call out Britt.
Ruby ends this match with Britts finisher, the Lockjaw. Pretty regular stuff. All capped off with the post match Spray paint.
Oh cool post match promo too.
Johnny TV Backstage Promo
I like John Hennigan and all his silly names. He fits more with the whole QTV gimmick more than Hobbs did. Rampage is also getting its own identity now, but it's felt like it's getting one for the past few months now, and I'm not sure if it is ever going to reach that point.
Main Event: Tornado Tag Team Match: Sting and Darby Allin vs Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara
I really hate that shitty flash movie that plays in the background of Sammy's entrance.
If i remember correctly, this is the 3rd time we saw the Painmaker character on Dynamite.
I like the tornado tag rules as a tv stipulation. Makes the match feel faster paced and chaotic.
Oh, geez. Sting jumped off the ladder onto Sammy, who was on 2 tables. I dont know if that was a great landing. It looks like sting may have landed his pelvis on the edge of one table and bumped his face on the second.
Sting somehow gets up and ends up in the walls of Jericho. Luckily, he was able to use the Painmakers own bat against him.
There's a lot of interesting depth to this story between Sting and Jericho, as we see Ating using all the moves he used back in the 90s and Jericho using the collection of moves he has gained in the years since. I feel there's a lot of possibility with this fued.
Sting wins with the Scorpion Death Lock
Closing thoughts
It feels like not much was developed in this episode aside from the MJF and Adam Cole story as well as Hangman and The Dark Order.
I'm excited to see Rampage and to see if they build anything else towards blood and guts this week.
Once again thanks for reading my review. Let me know your thoughts on this episode, are you expecting to be in Blood and Guts?

MPW, it’s time to ask what Brown can do for you, here comes the legend himself, former WWE Intercontinental and European Champion, D’Lo Brown! You never know who’s going to show up to the Clusterfuck!
MJF tries to prepare himself, but the much larger D’Lo Brown slides into the ring and goes right at MJF, swinging away with powerful right hands, before D’Lo sends Max off the ropes, and on the rebound sends Max flying backward with a Pounce-level shoulder tackle! Max goes flying into the corner, and D’Lo comes charging in, crushing him with a body splash, and sending Max stumbling into the middle of the ring, where D’Lo lifts him up with both hands, before driving Max down to the mat with a Double Handed Chokebomb! D’Lo was on a roll here early!
D’Lo gets back to his feet, and takes a second to acknowledge the crowd, who are on their feet and showering the legend with chants of “You still got it!”. D’Lo shows his appreciation with a head wobble, before D’Lo points to the top rope, the legend deciding it’s time to give the people what they came here to see, and maybe take MJF out of this match in the process. D’Lo climbs up to the top rope, and sets his feet, before leaping off, looking for the Lo- Down, but there’s no water in the pool as Max rolls out of the way! D’Lo Brown gets back up, clutching at his ribs, reeling after a not so soft landing, but MJF takes advantage, grabs D’Lo, and shitcans him over the top rope!
“D’Lo Brown has been eliminated!”
Once again, the crowd showers MJF with boos as he’s the only man left standing in the ring. MJF decides he’s going to go back over and pick up his microphone again, and let this crowd know what’s on his mind.
“D’Lo Brown? Really? You people are going to sit here and cheer D’Lo Brown? I don’t know which idiot booked that but it’s no wonder we have to keep coming back to shitty Panama, Florida every single year for this bullshit. Where I wrestle- where I actually wrestle, I fill up stadiums, I sold out Wembley Arena, my best friend Tony Khan makes sure that loser poor people like you all can’t even get into those arenas. Paul Heyman continuously plays to the lowest common denominator, and that’s why this company is going to shit. It doesn’t matter who comes out that curtain next, you dumb hicks are going to cheer for him, and then I’m gonna whip his ass in a matter of seconds.”
Max throws down the mic again after another series of strong words. It’s no secret how MJF feels about our MPW fans, but it’s time for Entry #6 to come in and hopefully shut MJF up for good tonight…

Full Gear Predictions
BUY IN
Best Friends vs The Factory. How many times I gotta say I'm not rooting for that man QT. Besties for the win.
Eddie Kingston vs Jun Akiyama. I'm here for a damn good time ok. Either winner will please me
Ricky Starks vs Brian Cage. Ricky Starks next question.
MAIN SHOW
Chris Jericho vs Bryan Danielson vs Claudio Castagnoli vs Sammy Guevara. First off it's diabolical I keep having to see Bryan wrestle Jericho and Sammy on aew television. With that being said if Bryan loses another ppv match I'm going to move into a cave and never talk to anyone again.
Wardlow vs Samoa Joe vs Powerhouse Hobbs. Bitch big beefy men slapping meat that's what I want and that's what I will be seeing. Fuck the result, I'm here for the tiddies.
Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal vs Sting and Darby Allin. It's really nice of TK to give me a 20 minute intermission like I know I'm going to be an anxious mess waiting for the Elite or completely ruined from the Elite match so this is just so sweet of TK to give me an intermission!!!!
Jade Cargill vs Nyla Rose. I've predicted this to be one of my favorites. I want to see murder mommy Jade go absolutely feral, but I want Nyla to come out with the win. My original pick to dethrone Jade was Kris Stat, but as there has been no news on her recovery, I'll take Nyla for the win. Nyla and Stat can run it back at I don't know, Revolution this time for the TBS title.
Elite vs Death Triangle. Welcome home my loves!!! I want to see pure disastrous fashion, I want you to be loud, flashy, annoying and obnoxious upon your return. I hope you lose tho, love you ❤️❤️ !!!
Toni Storm vs Jamie Hayter. Jamie deserves this win and her first feud should be Britt to finally solidify herself against Britt and Rebel. If Toni retains its for the simple fact that they want to pick up with Toni vs Thunder once she returns, which is fine, but Jamie really does deserve this win.
Jungle Boy vs Luchasaurus. Here for the violence, here for all of the violence. I want to see them go at it, I want to feel like I'm watching jurassic park.
Britt Baker vs Saraya. I know Britt will take care of Saraya, which does calm my nerves a little, but I am wishing Saraya all the best vibes and luck during this match. I'm rooting for a good healthy safe match for both women!
The Acclaimed vs Swerve In Our Glory. Swerve goes feral and ends up costing Keith the match, which can hopefully give me the Swerve vs Keith feud I've been craving. Billy's hands magical heal so he can scissor his boys and the crowd can sing my favorite song.
Jon Moxley vs MJF. Max is winning and it is a well deserved win, I always pictured Max as champ after Hangman's reign. There was lots of obstacles to this, but Max will finally be champ and thats all that matters. Mox has been on another level this year and I'm giving him all his flowers, but as much as I love champ Mox he doesn't need this win. He also deserves a long vacation with his girls!
#if you haven't already noticed I'm doing great today#no really I'm stellar I'm totally not dying on the inside#I'm going to be so burnt out on sunday from all my feelings#soph are you okay?? no i'm clearly unwell the fuck#aew full gear#aew#aew lb#soph predicts

Welcome Home Part 5
A/N: Holy shit it has been a long time. BUT here it is.
Summary: Peyton finds her life being flipped upside down again.
Pairing: Kenny Omega x OFC (Peyton Rhodes), MJF x OFC (Peyton Rhodes).
Scurrying away from each other, Kenny went to answer the door, while I straightened out my top. He pulled it open to reveal Don, who was pacing in the hallway. He looked into the room and his eyes locked on me. “Oh. She is still here.” He commented rudely, before turning his attention back to Kenny.
“What’s up, man? We were kinda in the middle of something.” Kenny told him, and Don nodded, looking at his disheveled state with disappointed eyes.
“Yeah, I see that. I’ve called a meeting. She needs to go.” Don’s voice was callus as he completely dismissed me. I scoffed, gathering my things. Kenny turned to me with sad eyes. I could already tell this night wasn’t going the way I hoped.
“I’m sorry, Pey. Rain check, please?” He pleaded. I was confused, and hurt. I didn’t know what to do. I mumbled a ‘sure’ as I walked past Callis. He closed the door behind me with a loud slam.
Little did I know, that fateful night in Kenny Omega’s hotel room would change the path of my career and my life.
Months passed and I assimilated into The Elite. I was at Kenny’s side as he took on challenger after challenger. I watched as he collected gold after gold, slowly changing into someone I didn’t recognize. He was at my side as I defended my title against the likes of Nyla Rose, Riho, and Penelope Ford.
In all honesty, things were going great for The Elite as a group. Kenny had three titles to his name, The Young Bucks had the AEW Tag Team Titles, even The Good Brothers were champions. Slowly, I started to notice Kenny pulling away from me. He stopped being at ringside for my matches, we stopped hanging out after shows, and eventually he stopped responding to my messages that weren’t wrestling oriented.
The nail in the coffin of my time in The Elite was when I lost the title to Britt Baker at Double or Nothing. Britt was a great competitor and if I was going to lose to someone, I was happy it was her. As I left the ring that night, I had no idea the title wasn’t the only thing I would lose. Kenny was standing by the women’s locker room when I arrived.
“Pey, we need to talk.” He stated, ushering me into an empty room. The look on his face told me everything I needed to know. Once the door was closed behind us, he sighed. “Pey, look.” He started, “This all started with Tony pushing us together, but we knew it wouldn’t last forever. It’s time for you to leave The Elite.” Kenny decided. He didn’t really give me a choice in the matter.
“Okay.” I agreed, before adding, “I’ll put it out on my socials tonight.” It broke my heart to walk away from my best friend, but he was right, it was time. I gave him a hand shake, and left him alone.
4 months later……
Wrapping up another successful Dynamite show, I was in my dressing room, packing my gear, when Brandi walked in. I acknowledged her presence, but continued to gather my things. “Hey sis,” she started, “I just wanted to give you a heads up, Cody invited MJF to ride with us.” She warned.
I rolled my eyes. “Why does he do this to me?” I groaned, “I’ll call an Uber. I am not sitting in Cody’s truck with that loud mouth.” I did my best to avoid MJF.
“I’ll let Cody know. I don’t know why he is trying to push you two together.” Brandi leaned against the door.
“Ugh. Cody has always tried to play match-maker for me.” I moaned, annoyed with my brother’s bullshit. It was exhausting dealing with his meddling. “Thanks for the warning.” I gave her a quick hug and grabbed my bag. “I’m gonna go wait in catering until my car gets here.” I all but ran out of the room.
“Woah, slow down, Rhodes.” Moxley said as I slid into the chair next to him. He knew my brother’s bad habit of trying to set me up. He tried to set us up at one point.
“Sorry, running from my brother and his poor attempt to set me up. Again.” I explained as I laid my head on the table, letting out an exacerbated sigh.
“Who is it this time?” He asked, placing an arm around me. I was really happy Jon and I were able to move past the whole ‘Me costing him the title’ thing.
“Maxwell Jacob Freidman.” I enunciate each word. Jon erupted in laughter. I couldn’t help but join, because it was absolutely ridiculous.
“Seriously? MJF?” He snorted, still laughing at the thought. Jon and I made small talk while I waited on my car to arrive. When my phone dinged, letting me know they were here, I told him bye and went on my way.
Arriving at the hotel, I hauled my duffle out of the back seat and made my way to my room. To my surprise, my brother was standing by my door. “Hey Pey,” he said, giving me a small wave. I nodded, continuing in his direction. “ Can we talk?” Cody seemed off, like something was bothering him.
“Of course,” I answered, unlocking my door. Cody followed me in and took a seat at the small table in the corner. He gestured for me to join him. Closing the door behind us, I sat in the chair next to him.
“What’s up Code? Something wrong?” I immediately asked him, concerned. He shook his head ‘no’.
“Brandi gave me a good talking to on the way here and I wanted to say I’m sorry, for trying to play matchmaker.” Cody apologized. I gave him a sweet smile, but was cheering on the inside for Brandi being on my side.
“It’s okay, really. No need to apologize. It’s just, I’m capable of getting my own dates.” I replied, trying not to sound bitchy.
Cody nodded in agreement. “I know. I know. It's just, as your big brother, I want to kick Kenny’s ass.” I was surprised at the mention of Kenny’s name.
“What does Kenny have to do with this?” I questioned nervously, knowing exactly where Cody was coming from. He huffed a laugh, like he didn’t believe me.
“I know, Peyton. Everyone knows. You’re head over heels for your best friend, except for him. I was hoping, if I got you to go out with Max, then maybe, Kenny would get his head out of his ass.” Cody explained. My mouth dropped open.
“Code, Kenny is my ex-best friend. We haven’t really spoken since he kicked me out of The Elite. He isn’t the reason, I mean, it's just that, it's not...” I couldn’t form a sentence because Cody was right. Even though Kenny ditched me, I still had feelings for him.
Cody sat there, watching me try to form an excuse in my head, but nothing was coming together. Cody just laughed. “Look, Pey, I think we both know I’m right.”
I groaned, shaking my head. “Please, can we just pretend this conversation didn’t happen? I’ll go out with Max. I’m sure he isn’t as insufferable as his character.” I tried to reason with my brother.
Cody sighed, standing up to leave, “Fine, but one day, you’ll have to tell him how you feel.” he said, giving me his best big brother look. I nodded. One day, or maybe never, who knows.
I tried my best to get Cody’s words out of my head. The feelings I had for Kenny were my past. Or maybe they were remnants of the relationship we never got to have. All I knew was it was time for me to move on. Cody sent me a text with Max’s number. What’s the worst that could happen?
Please don't hate me

My predictions for Double or Nothing! I'll find my predictions from a month or so ago later for funsies.
Hookhausen vs Nese/Sterling - Hookhausen wins this. It's too obvious and it helps establish another banger of a tag team. It also eases off the ring rust that Danhausen absolutely has.
Jade vs Anna Jay - Jade wins because I believe Kris is going to be who beats her and hands her the first loss.
House of Black vs Death Triangle - I think House of Black wins and Julia properly joins them. I think she's why they win actually.
Young Bucks vs The Hardys - Young Bucks will win this and make The Hardys not look their age.
Anarchy In The Arena (Jericho Jerkoff Society vs BCC, PxP, Eddie Kingston) - Proud and Power + friends will absolutely beat the breaks off the jerkoffs.
MJF vs Wardlow - This one is obvious. Wardlow is winning. Freedom for Wardlow!
Britt Baker vs Ruby Soho - Ruby wins because Jamie fucks up and costs Britt the match. Toni will also make an appearance
Joe vs Adam Cole - JOE JOE JOE JOE
Jurassic Express vs Team Taz vs Swerve In Our Glory - Team Taz wins this and Christian turns on JE
Thunder Rosa vs Serena Deeb - Rosa wins. Nothing else to say. It's been a shitty build and feud tbh
Kyle O'Reilly vs Darby Allin - KOR wins because of the numbers game. Sting isn't in Vegas to swing a bat around.
Sammy/Tay/Kaz vs American Top Team - I'm giving it to ATT. I think they are going to want to have PVZ get a win to start her off. I suspect she gets the pin.
Hangman vs CM Punk - Hangman retains. I suspect he'll drop the belt at All Out to MJF and then down the line Punk wins it off MJF in Chicago.
Other stuff - Claudio makes debut, Julia completes her turn, Punk turns heel.
That's it! Sorry that it's long!

“Uh, thanks, but I’m good. I just got here and I’m not just gonna get stuck in a faction.”
“I’m not getting you a date with Nova.” Sawyer scoffed, turning to walk to her and the girls’ rental. “But Sawyer please?” Ricky whined, following after her. Nova had already rejected the invitation to Team Taz earlier that night, but Ricky wanted more than just Nova in the faction. “No. Way.” Ricky groaned, “C’mon Sawyer. You owe me. Remember?” Sawyer stopped in her tracks, she didn’t even think Ricky remembered. “I got you that one date with Wardlow. You said you owe me. This is all I’m asking.” Sawyer sighed and turned to face him, “Alright. I will try. I can’t guarantee she’ll say yes though.” Ricky smiled, pulling Sawyer in for a hug.
“Ew, let me go you weirdo.” She laughed, Ricky rolled his eyes when he pulled away. “Okay, I’m gonna talk to her in the car. If she says yes I’ll give her your number, if not, then you gotta leave her alone for a while. Deal?” Sawyer held out her hand, Ricky shook her hand, “Deal.”
Ricky watched as Sawyer walked to the rental, getting in the backseat. “So what did Starks want?” Nova asked, looking back from the driver’s side. “Well...he wanted to know if he could take you out on a date.” Veronica spit out her water, coughing and laughing at the same time, while Nova stared wide-eyed. “A date...he’s not gonna ask me to join Team Taz again is he?” Nova questioned, brows scrunched up. “I don’t think so. Nova, I think he’s actually into you.” “I think you should give him a chance.” Veronica said, finally catching her breath and taking another sip of water. Nova sighed, “Okay. I’ll give him a chance.” Veronica and Sawyer started to celebrate before Nova cut them off again, “But! If it doesn’t go well, I better not hear another word about him. Alright?”
“Fine.” Sawyer said, already texting Ricky to tell him the news. Nova turned towards Veronica in the passenger's seat, “Don’t look at me! That’s Sawyer’s friend. Not mine.” They all giggled, Nova putting the car in drive, and pulling off and driving away from Daily’s place for the day.
The Next Afternoon
“It’s been weeks since I’ve been in the gym.” Sawyer brought up as she spreaded across the couch. Veronica looked up from her phone, “You’re right, since being here in Jacksonville we’ve been busy,” she sat up from her spot on the floor, “I’ll go get Nova, and we can head to the one upstairs.” They went through their luggage to find their workout clothes. Of course, Nova whined about having to get up, but soon began to get ready pulling out one of the drawers to find her bright pink gear. Veronica began to fill up her water bottles and tie her laces when Sawyer came out with her Nike Pro spandex shorts, a sports bra under her matching hoodie, and some white and black trainers. “Are you ready to go?” She asked while setting up her apple watch.
Nova began to gather her items, “Let's just get this over with.” Veronica laughed before opening the door. “You’ll be thanking us once you start.”
The elevator dorms chimed open, and straight ahead they could see the decent-sized hotel gym. Only a few people were there, so it must have been a perfect time. When Sawyer entered, she looked around deciding what to do first; until she spotted a muscular figure running on a treadmill. She tried to turn around but collided with Nova and Veronica who were rubbing their sides. “Sawyer, watch where you’re going!” Nova wept. Making Wardlow look back, they almost went unnoticed until he did a double-take, nearly making him fall off in the process. Nova's lips straightened before she started laughing, loudly. “This is what you get for having me go to the gym.” She laughed before walking over to a different machine while dragging Veronica along with her.
“I didn’t expect to see you here.” Wardlow came up while dabbing a towel on his forehead. Sawyer's mouth began to go dry, seeing a sweaty Wardlow was always a beautiful sight. “I felt like I was losing my strength, it’s been a while since I worked out. I have to do something before it becomes noticeable.” She joked, but he seemed to be busy in his train of thought to laugh. On the other side, Nova and Veronica were doing their best to hear them unnoticeably.
“What is he saying to her?” Veronica asked as she pretended like she was going to pick up a weight. “Nothing,” she shot her a perplexed look, “He’s totally eye-fucking her though.” She smirked,” I don’t blame him either.”
Nova was right, Wardlow couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. If she wasn’t working out like she used to he for sure couldn’t tell. She seemed to be going off about something and he was listening... at first, but then he started to get distracted by her features. Trying to comprehend all the words she was saying, but his eyes drew back to her body. If possible, he seemed to be sweating more. Making him bring his bottom lip in between his teeth while trying to control himself.
“Hello?” She snapped her fingers in front of his face, bringing him back to reality. “Did you come by yourself?”
“Huh? Oh… Max is somewhere, I don’t really remember.” He rubbed the back of his neck trying to think of anything besides having her clothes on the floor of his hotel room.
“ARE YOU SPYING ON THEM?!” A loud voice echoed through the gym. Wardlow shot his head back and clicked his tongue, “I think I found Max.” causing Sawyer to groan.
“COULD YOU SHUT THE HELL UP?” Nova smacked the back of his neck making him try to thump her in return. Veronica stood up trying to break them up before Wardlow and Sawyer came over causing them to stop. “Hey buddy, you won’t believe what I caught these two raccoons doing.” Veronica put a hand on her chest, offended at his insult. “Don’t act like you weren’t interested either!” She shot back, making him roll his eyes. “Please, I wasn’t interested in their conversation, that would be rude. I was more into the fact that Sawyer came looking like a fine glass of wine.”
“WHAT?” Nova, Sawyer, Veronica, and Wardlow all asked at once. Maxwell scoffed before walking over and letting his arm fall over her shoulder. “I don’t think we’ve properly met before without Nova getting in the way, but I’m Max.” Their eyebrows knitted in confusion, as he flashed a smile at Wardlow. “I see you chatting to my bodyguard, Wardlow here, but come up to my hotel room and we can do way more than just chat.” “Max I already know who you ar-” Max held up his hand to cut off Sawyer, receiving a glare in return. Veronica covered her mouth while trying her best not to encourage the situation. She shot her head in Wardlow’s direction but saw he was avoiding her gaze, as he walked straight to one of the lifting benches. Max removed his arm, having a smug smile appear and lightly laughed, “God I knew Wardlow liked you, but I didn’t think he liked you that much.”
“What are you talking about, YOU caused that.” Sawyer threw her hands up in frustration. “You should be thanking me, Sawyer.” he looked back at Wardlow who aggressively picked up and added another weight. “I should have kicked your ass-”
“Just hear him out, Sawyer.” Nova cut in causing Max to shoot her a grin, “I knew you still liked me.”
“Spill it out already, damn.”
“Oh yea, right. As we can all tell by his reaction to me flirting with you...Wardlow is still into you obviously, but he got it bad.” His eyebrows rose as he looked at the group to get a reaction. “They both do.” Veronica shrugged, causing everyone, besides Sawyer to agree. “I’m going to work out. You know the thing we came here for?”
“She didn’t deny it.” Max nudged Veronica as she flipped them off causing them to snicker. “As much fun as it was messing with her, I gotta get going. I’ll catch up with you guys later.” He first hugged Veronica, before quickly thumping Nova on her forehead and running out of the gym too fast for her to catch up. “I’m going to kick his ass next time I see him.” Nova spat while walking over next to Sawyer on the treadmills. Veronica laughed to herself before she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket.
Kenny Omega: meet me in my hotel room?
Her breath hitched in her mouth, she let her thumb hover over the keyboard before deciding what to say next.
I’m in workout clothes, is that cool?
Kenny Omega: I don’t care, I just need to see you.
“Damn you, Kenny Omega.” she thought to herself, this man had her wrapped around his finger, and it scared the hell out of her.
Nova and Sawyer seemed to be busy seeing who could outrun the other, and Veronica would just be gone for a couple of minutes…right? She slipped out of the gym making her way to the elevator with a pit of guilt sitting in her stomach.
Kenny texted her his room number and then started to pace around. He hadn’t been able to get a good sleep since his last conversation with Veronica, and it killed him to know she was upset with him. A knock came on the other side of the door making Kenny freeze. He smoothed over his shirt before going to open the door. “Veronica, hey-” he was cut off as she threw her body into his embrace. “I’m so sorry Ken.” Ser words muffled causing him to rub circles over her back. “You have no reason to apologize, it was my fault.” He brought her in and closed the door, not letting go. He liked this, he wanted this to be more than what it already was.
“She’s worth it. Take the risk…” Karl Anderson’s words from the club flew around in the back of his mind . He gulped as he began to remove his arms from around her, “Veronica…” He started causing her to look up at him. “I’m tired of lying to myself saying I don’t like you as much as I think I do. In such a short amount of time, I feel like I could trust you with anything..” Veronica sat there taking in every word, mentally pinching herself to make sure this wasn’t a dream. He gently swiped at her chin, making her blush. “Will you be mine?” His question was barely loud enough to be a whisper; but it was enough for her to hear.
She nodded before connecting her lips to his in a passionate kiss. His hands held her face, and her fingers began to massage the back of his scalp. He laid her down gently before lightly straddling her, “I want to do this the right way this time.” He broke up the kiss, making her want more. “I’m all yours, Omega.” and that was enough for him.
Dynamite
Sawyer and Veronica got out of the car, continuing to sing the song they were listening to on the way to Daily’s Place. “Will you guys put a cork in it?!” Nova yelled, limping past them. Sawyer stifled her laughter before mumbling, “One Direction is gonna save your life one day.” Nova rolled her eyes, still walking ahead. “Does the knee still hurt?” Veronica asked, looking at the bandage around Nova’s left knee cap. Nova frowned, “Yes. The scar opened back up this morning.” Sawyer shrugged, “I told you I would win the treadmill race.”
Nova limped towards Sawyer, the two giggling as they were play fighting, Veronica pretending to be the referee. “Uh excuse me?” They all stopped when a technician had all their attention. “Tony Khan called for you guys in his office, right away.” He had walked away, no other word said. Nova turned towards Sawyer and Veronica, her whole demeanor changed, “What did you guys do?” Nova yelled, pulling her arm away from Sawyer’s grasp. “Why are you assuming it's something we did?” Veronica asked, the three rushing through the halls to get to TK’s office. “Y’all already got in trouble for throwing yogurt at Justin Roberts two weeks ago.” Sawyer groaned, “Okay, that was an accident, my Gogurt wouldn’t squeeze out.”
They all stood in front of the door when Veronica mumbled, “Better not bring that up then.” Nova raised her hand to knock on the door, hesitating. She was really close to just putting her hand down when Sawyer mumbled under her breath, “For crying out loud.” And then knocked on the door herself. They all started to argue, but silently.
It all stopped when the door swung open, Tony Khan standing on the other side. “Ladies, come in, have a seat right there for me.” They all smiled at him, all walking in one by one. It wouldn’t have been so bad if it was just Tony, but Kenny, Matt and Nick Jackson were in there as well, and they didn’t look happy either. While none of them were looking, Veronica took the opportunity to flick Sawyer in the back of the head, knowing that if it WAS the Gogurt that got them fired, it would be her fault.
They all sat anxiously, looking in their laps and fidgeting with their thumbs. Tony coughed, causing them all to look up, “Now you guys know, you’re valued here.” Veronica nodded, stopping suddenly. “The EVP’s and I have been talking a lot recently about you guys,” Tony continued, “And after finally discussing it, I think we’ve come to a conclusion and I think it’s for the best.”
Nova reached for both her friend’s hands, all them taking deep breaths in, trying to prepare themselves for whatever he had to say. Tony reached in the drawer of his desk, pulling out clipboards instead. The three girls looked at each other in confusion. “Sawyer Holden, Nova Jay and Veronica Rodriguez, we would like to officially sign you to All Elite Wrestling.” Nova laughed in relief, Veronica smiled looking towards Kenny and Sawyer sat there dumbfounded. Veronica reached towards the desk, reading the contact. Nova followed, Sawyer signed it almost right away. The words the EVPs and Tony were saying were all drowned out, they couldn’t believe it, their dreams were coming true.
Kenny pulled Veronica in for a hug swaying them back and forth, “You deserve this.” He whispered in her ear before planting a kiss on top of her head. Sawyer cleared her throat. “Is this how you congratulate everyone who signs a contract?” Nova scoffed, making Veronica break up the hug. “I’m guessing you didn’t tell them yet?” Kenny laughed nervously making them all wait in anticipation. “Kenny and I are dating.” Veronica chuckled. Nick and Matt looked at Kenny trying to read him. “Officially?” Matt questioned, more towards his best friend.
Kenny nodded. “BITCH, YOU SAID NO MORE SECRETS.” Nova yelped, causing Veronica to quickly put her hands up in defense. “I promise I was planning to tell you guys,” She looked over at Sawyer, “I was just waiting for the perfect opportunity.” Kenny stood next to her, placing a hand on her lower back. “If you're mad, and I understand why you would be, take it out on me, not her.” He stood taller, making Sawyer and Nova laugh. “We’re not upset. You two deserve each other.” Sawyer laughed before beginning to head for the door.
“Just…if you plan on ever doing it in OUR hotel room. Make sure the door is locked.” She joked, causing Kenny and Veronica to cover their faces in embarrassment. Nova chuckled before looking over at the two, “I knew there was something going on when you arrived back at the hotel with that goofy ass grin, now I understand.” She handed her contract to Nick before exiting, “If you hurt her.. I will find you.” She squinted before closing the door. Veronica let out a sigh of relief, “That went better than expected.” He turned and saw the Bucks and TK with perplexed faces.
“What did she mean by, “Make sure the door is locked?”" Nick asked while Matt rubbed his chin in confusion. Kenny pursed his lips before laughing, “That’s a story for another time.”
Sawyer strode down the hallway, slightly singing to herself to celebrate before she reached her locker room, planning to call her parents to tell them the news. She opened the door, and to her surprise, Chuck Taylor and Trent were already there. “There she is!” Chuck called out, Sawyer looked at them, dumbfounded. “We heard about you signing!” Trent mentioned causing her confusion to go away. “It’s been five minutes!” Sawyer laughed, pulling the two in for a hug. “Brandon told everyone you guys were getting your contracts offered today.” he smiled. “It was completely unexpected, for all of us.” Sawyer grinned, causing them to admire her.
“It was just a matter of time, I would have signed you sooner,” Chuck commented, making her feel warm on the inside. Trent and Chuck had been nothing but friendly since they met, and that was a huge difference from the other locker rooms she’s been a part of. “How’s it been with Wardlow?” Trent raised his eyebrows up and down making Sawyer roll her eyes. “Honestly, I don’t even know. Sometimes it feels like we’re together, and then the next second we’re strangers again. It’s frustrating.” She plopped onto the couch making Chuck look down at her with a frown. “Wardlow is a dumbass if he can’t figure out his feelings,” he responded sitting next to her. “He doesn’t know that the perfect girl is right in front of him.” he leaned next to her, relaxing his hand on her knee. “Dustin’s right. If he keeps screwing up, I won't be afraid to swoop in.” Trent joked, causing Sawyer to laugh. “I don’t know if people would actually believe that,” Chuck said while resting his arm around Sawyer.
Sawyer reached and put her left hand on Chuck’s right, “You guys are so sweet. I’m not used to this.” Sawyer frowned, her attention straying away from the two men. “Well,” Trent started, “You’re here now. And I can confirm, the people and fans will adore you.”
“Not as much as me but, I’m sure Veronica and Nova are close seconds.” Chuck joked, getting a laugh from Sawyer in return. “I’ll make sure when I get merch you guys are the first ones to get it.” Trent smiled, “If we don’t,” He leaned closer to whisper in her ear, “I know where you sleep.” Sawyer rolled her eyes and chuckled at his threat, “I’ll make sure to lock my doors then.”
Trent looked down at his phone, “I hate to cut this celebration short, but we gotta go take pictures.” Chuck sighed, getting up from the couch, “Well, I guess we’ll see you later.” Sawyer waved, finding herself frowning when they were gone. Not even a few seconds later, there was a knock on her door. “It’s open!” Sawyer called out, but to her surprise, it was Chuck again. “Hey.”
“Oh hey; Did you forget something or..?”
Chuck wiped his palms on his shorts, “No, uh I just wanted to say something that wasn’t in front of Trent.” Sawyer nodded. “I know things are kinda dumb with Wardlow right now...so if you need anything, I mean anything, you can come to me.”
Sawyer smiled, she had only ever heard words like that from Nova or Veronica, so Chuck was a breath of fresh air. Sawyer fidgeted with her hands, “Thanks, Dustin. You’re a really, really great friend.” Chuck opened his mouth to speak but thought against it. “Of course, that's what...friends are for.” Chuck leaned in to kiss her cheek, “Catch you later, Sawyer.” He exited the room, leaving Sawyer, a confused and blushing mess.
“I can’t go out like this!” Nova whined as she looked herself over in the mirror. She had just bought this beautiful white blouse to wear for tonight’s Dynamite but ended up ripping it instead showing a huge piece of skin on the back. “I guess another wrestling shirt will have to do.” She went over to her backpack to look for a change of clothes, but automatically face-planted herself. “I left all of my shit back at the hotel,” She set her hand on her chin thinking of where she could find a replacement. She doubted Veronica or Sawyer had any shirts that fit her, so the next best choice was to go buy one from one of the merch stands.
She looked over the many choices on display, they had almost every roster member's merchandise. “I think a Team Taz shirt would fit you perfectly.” A voice crept from behind her, making her turn her head. “Of course, you would think that Ricky.” he flashed her a grin, before pulling out his wallet. “That or my personal favorite… the one in the corner.” He pointed towards his shirt, making her laugh.
“I’ll take the Team Taz, and Ricky Starks shirt please,” She told the cashier, having him start to bag them up. Nova reached for her purse before Starks had beat her to it giving them a 50 dollar bill.
“You didn’t have to do that,” She told him as she grabbed her items. “It’s a gift since you’re officially a part of AEW now.” He shyly admitted, causing her to stop. “I saw it on social media before going to find Cage and Taz.” She nodded, before heading over to one of the bathrooms. He pulled out his phone scrolling on social media when someone started yelling in his direction .
“AYO RICKY!” a booming voice down the hall caused him to turn his attention from his screen and down the hallway. “What are you doing on the other side of the arena? You said you were going to the bathroom and coming right back.” A furious Taz said, as he checked his watch. “I’m on a tight schedule-”
He stopped mid-sentence, as the bathroom door opened. Nova came out, and she was wearing her brand new Team Taz shirt. “I decided to save the other one for a different day…” She began, but her eyes darted towards the man that was next to Ricky.
“I’m sorry, was I interrupting something-“
“No, you’re fine. Nova this is Taz, Taz this is Nova Jay.” Ricky introduced them as she stuck her hand out for a handshake. He looked her over before letting out a laugh. “You’ve got to be ribbing me, man.”
They sent him a confused expression as he rolled his eyes. “Is this the girl you’ve been trying to get me to recruit? Weren’t you just on Dark a couple of weeks ago?” He started to yell, making a lot of people backstage look over.
“Ricky you’re a talented guy, everyone here knows that… I expected better.” Ricky opened his mouth to say something but was cut off. “I don’t think you heard me correctly. No new members, especially someone who just got here. Keep wearing everyone else’s merchandise, you’ll be gone in a couple of months.” He shrugged making her face frown. He walked off leaving Nova and Ricky alone.
“Nova..”
“You should go after him before he takes it out on you later.”
He sent her a half-smile, and wrapped his arms around her before saying anything, “I’m going to talk to him. Don’t let what he said affect you, I’ll see you on Saturday.” He kissed the outside of her hand, before jogging off.
A little while later, the girls were hanging out in Sawyer’s locker room, chatting about their contracts and the day they’ve had so far. “You won’t be gone in a couple months, don’t listen to Taz.” “Yeah, he looks like a penguin anyways.” Sawyer added on, wanting to make Nova laugh through the sucky situation. Nova exhaled, “I guess y’all are right. At least Ricky tried to defend me…” Sawyer and Veronica looked at each other, before looking back at Nova, making that face. Nova noticed it before rolling her eyes, “Stop it guys. I haven’t even gone on the date yet.”
“Whatever you say, Nova.” Veronica shrugged. “If it works out I better get a special toast at the wedding.” Sawyer joked, causing Nova to playfully push her over. Their laughter was interrupted by a knock on the door, “The door is open!” Veronica called between giggles. The door opened and a smiling Anna Jay and cheering Britt Baker walked in. “Congrats girls!” Britt shouted, giving them all hugs. “It's about time you guys were signed.” Anna mentioned, sitting next to Nova. The trio thanked them both, smiling.
“So,” Britt clasped her hands together, “we wanted to ask you guys if you wanted to go on a Girl’s Night Out with us.” Nova nodded frantically almost immediately, Sawyer thought for a second, “Y’know what, why not? A real celebration is due.” The four looked at Veronica, who hadn’t answered yet. “I don’t know guys, I was just gonna celebrate with Kenny tonight.”
Sawyer rolled her eyes and scoffed jokingly, “C’mon, who knows how many times you and Kenny have secretly hung out these past few weeks. It’s one night.” Veronica’s expression changed suddenly, then Nova added on, “We promise, he and the unlocked door will still be there when we get back.” The other girls laughed, while Veronica faked a laugh, feeling anger build up inside.
She sighed, “You’re right, I’ll be there later. But I gotta run.” Veronica sat up without another word, leaving the room and slamming the door behind her. “That was weird.” Anna said, lifting her eyebrows. “I’m sure she’s fine, just having one of her weird moments.” Nova shrugged, turning her attention back to everyone else.
Veronica walked away as far as she could. Sometimes it was difficult being friends with people like Nova and Sawyer, they all had their moments, but sometimes it could be a little much. A bar at the end of the hallway caught her attention. It looked empty until she saw a figure alone in the corner. She made her way over and sat next to him. “Rough night?” Adam Page asked not taking his eyes off his bottle. She let out a breath before rubbing her hand through her hair, “I guess you could say that,” she looked over at him taking in his features. “Do you have any extra glasses?” his ears shot up as she stared at him with curiosity. “There's some behind the counter.” His head gestured, making her nod. She hopped off the stool walking over to find what she was looking for. Hangman took a long glance at her. “Kenny was right, she is pretty,” he thought.
Kenny.
The whole reason he was drinking was because of that man. He took a hard swig, ignoring the burn in his throat. “I doubt your boyfriend knows you’re here.” He burst out of nowhere, making her sigh. She reached over to grab the Jack Daniels from him, “We are literally in the same building, he’ll be fine.” She chugged her drink before pouring another shot. His eyes widened, “Woah easy, why are you drinking so much?” He began to pick up his glass before realizing what he asked, making him put it back down.
“I just needed to get away from some people. I didn’t exactly plan to end up here.” She lightly chuckled before pushing the drink away, “What about you, Hangman? Why are YOU drinking so much?” she questioned making him slightly curse her. “Can you blame me? My friend’s kicked me out of their life, I have a tag team championship match coming up with some guy I’m pretty sure doesn’t even want to be in a tag team it’s…” He shot the glass down on the table hard, “It’s a lot to handle at one time.” Adam looked at her in the eyes, for the first time since she walked in, expecting them to show fear or terror. Instead, he was met with sincerity, and that caused him to sober up a bit. “I can’t speak for Matt and Nick, or Kenny but...” she sat down next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder, “Maybe this is what’s best.” He gulped before reaching back to his drink. “You’re right. I don’t need those guys…all they did was cause me to forget who the hell I was.”
“I have a feeling you and I are going to get along quite well Hangman.” She laughed, causing him to smile. He raised his glass in the air, “To not caring about real life and drinking our problems away.” he joked, causing her to raise her glass as well. “I’ll drink to that.”
Back at the Hotel
Veronica arrived at her hotel room feeling a lot better than earlier. Her conversation with Adam repeated in the back of her head, while she opened the door revealing a stunning Anna Jay and Britt Baker. “Took you long enough, we thought you left Florida.” Baker joked, as Veronica embraced them in a hug. “Where are the two asshats?” Anna laughed, “Sawyer is finishing up with her braids, and Nova is,” a shoe flew and hit the wall separating Sawyer’s room from Veronica and Nova’s, “looking for her shoes.”
“Sawyer, did you steal my nude rockstuds?!” Nova popped out the closet and called to the other room. Sawyer walked into the room, “The Valentino ones that have a scratch on because you threw it at me when I said Max was better than you?” Nova glared at Sawyer, “Yes. Where are they?” “I don’t know, I tried to stick them down the garbage disposal but I couldn’t see cause you HIT MY EYE.”
“They’re in my bag from when I borrowed them last week.” Veronica spoke up, trying to end the commotion. Nova walked over to her luggage, sighing with relief when she found them. Nova plopped down next to Veronica to slip on her heels, “You and Sawyer better hurry up, I’m trying to get my celebration on!” Veronica rolled her eyes, getting up to look through her bag for something to wear.
“Hey, that's not completely on me, someone wouldn’t let me start braiding in my weave at the show.” Sawyer complained, braiding another lock and glaring at Nova and Anna. Sawyer turned back to her room to get ready with no disruption. Veronica followed, grabbing the outfit she was planning to wear and her makeup bag. The two stood side by side in Sawyer's bathroom, silently, besides that laughter and yelling going on in the room next to them.
“Can you zip me up?” Veronica asked, motioning to the back of her dress. Sawyer looked over, quickly zipping up the dress and fixing the straps. The two turned back to the mirror, no conversation. Sawyer twisted with the jewelry on her hands and wrists before turning over to Veronica, “Look. Earlier, I don’t know if it was the jokes, or maybe something else? But Nova and I didn’t mean to make you upset if we did, it was all in good-” “It’s fine. Just cool it with the Kenny jokes, please? I really like him. I can’t mess this one up.” Sawyer snapped her mouth shut, just nodding in agreement to what she was saying.
She had never been this serious about a relationship before, let alone been that upset about one of Sawyer’s jokes. “If you don’t mind, could we take the Kenny jokes down a notch? Just for tonight.”
“Yeah no that’s fine. Totally fine. I’m sure there are plenty of Ricky jokes I could make towards Nova.” Sawyer tried to laugh, but felt like it wasn’t coming out the way she wanted. “Gee thanks for killing the mood, V.” Sawyer thought to herself, putting on gloss to finish her look.
Veronica exhaled, putting all her stuff back in her makeup bag, smiling in the mirror to see if she was satisfied with her look. They both exited the room, walking into a bunch of hollers and cheers from the other three. “Now can we PLEASE go? I need a Malibu Sunset in my system.” Nova whined, leaning onto Anna’s shoulder. “Fine, fine. Just let me text Chuck ba-” Britt snatched the phone from Sawyer’s hand, “Not while girls night is happening you’re not.”
“Okay okay. No men…unless it’s a fine ass bartender.” Sawyer said slyly, starting to copy the mood of Nova. “Let’s get this party started baby!” Nova called out, the first one to dance her way out the door.
When they arrived at the bar they were immediately met with loud music and the smell of alcohol. “I’ve been waiting for this all night,” Britt yelled as she clapped her hands together, making them laugh. Veronica felt her phone vibrate in her clutch, she pulled her hand back trying to avoid checking it.
They ushered to a table in the back, Sawyer sat down thinking Veronica would have sat next to her; instead she sat in a chair on the way end of the table. She let out a huff of air, before rolling her eyes. Nova instead took the chair and picked up her menu. Sawyer looked around, stopping when she saw a pair of eyes already on her. She squinted trying to make out the face immediately realizing it was Wardlow. He smirked before lifting his glass and taking a long sip.
Sawyer slammed her hands down on the table making her way to the bar. Veronica raised a brow in confusion, but no one seemed to notice as they were all in their conversation. Her phone vibrated once again, making her look around at the table. She slowly pulled it out of her pocket and unlocked the screen.
Are you on your way here??
Veronica
Did you forget!?
Where are you? :(
She started to type out a response and thought against it. Her stomach filled with guilt, she didn’t want to hear them make even more fun of her relationship. Britt looked at her friend in worry before grabbing a shot off the tray Sawyer brought back.
“I didn’t say these were for YOU!” Sawyer said in disgust as Britt flashed a smile, “You don’t need all of these. Plus, I’m paying!” Veronica laughed, feeling her phone buzz once again.
I’m going to search this whole city if you don’t respond in the next 10 minutes.
Veronica looked up to see if anyone noticed, and as expected- Britt was staring right at her. “Is that the Cleaner?” She asked with a grin. Her face flushed pink before nodding. Britt let out a groan, “Fine. You can go see him, BUT, you have to let him know to never interrupt a girl’s night ever again.” “THANK YOU. I’ll make it up to you next time.” Veronica rushed gathering her things and exiting the bar. “Where is she going? She didn’t even drink anything.” Anna wondered.
“I think we all know where she’s heading,” Nova said, making them all laugh - except Sawyer. “She’ll be back after she’s done.” Sawyer tried to explain. “I don’t think she’s coming back.” Britt replied, “That girl is HOOKED.”
Wardlow seemed to notice from where he was sitting something was wrong. Sawyer fidgeted more with her glass than actually drinking it, and that made him worry. She looked up and saw him staring at her, her hands fell to her sides as she began to walk over to him. “Why do you keep LOOKING AT ME?” Sawyer asked with suspicion.
Wardlow raised his hands up in defense, “You just seem a bit upset,” his hands trailed to her waist pulling her forward, “And I know part of that is from what happened at the gym last week, and I’m so sorry for that. Seeing Maxwell on you… it made me feel a certain way.”
“Jealous?” Sawyer rose her brows while smirking at him.
“Me? Jealous? In your dreams maybe.” he laughed while his hands lowered feeling around causing her to bite the inside of her mouth. “Why don’t we get out of here? I saw Veronica already-”
“I can’t. I don’t plan on drinking anymore tonight, and the girls need to get home safely,” She told him as he frowned. “I understand, just text me when you get back to the hotel, alright?” She smiled, “I will. Goodnight Michael.”
He let go of the fabric of her dress and buttoned his coat up, “Congratulations by the way. I’ll make sure you get a better celebration party soon.” He winked at her which sent a wave of heat through her whole body. He kissed her on the forehead before making his way out. She closed her eyes, letting everything process. She didn’t know what was happening with Veronica, but did she even care? Wardlow seemed to be more interested and he wasn’t even sitting with them. Nova came over to pull Sawyer with her, Britt, and Anna, and for the first time in a long time, she danced like nothing else was happening.
well that as chapter 4 friends, hope you guys enjoyed. Be ready cause next is the date! @adriii-omega

All Out preview
Here we go with AEW's annual Labor Day weekend show in Hoffman Estates, just like the original All In show three years ago. I have been going to wrestling shows for days, and it all comes down to this!
The show starts at 8pm EDT, streaming on Bleacher Report (in the US and Canada) and Fite.tv for $49.99. A free pre-show will be available at 7pm EDT.
CM Punk vs. Darby Allin - This is CM Punk's first pro wrestling match since January 26, 2014, when he spent 49 minutes in the Royal Rumble working with a staph infection and a possible concussion. The following night he walked out of WWE, leading to seven and a half years of debate about what is next move would/should be. Two weeks ago he debuted with AEW and declared that he wanted to help the younger talent, starting with a match against Allin. Allin, for his part, took some exception to being the first opponent, as if he's just a stepping stone to bigger matches.
The big issue here is seeing how well Punk, 42, has held up after seven years away. I've seen reports that he's looking good in training, but you just don't know until the bell rings. Regardless, I expect the hometown crowd to be very forgiving to Punk, and Allin is good enough to carry the match if he really has to.
I feel like I ought to have more to say about this, but it also feels like everything's been said. I can't believe Punk would lose his first match in. But I can believe that if Punk insisted on doing the job, AEW would let him do that. It'd be unusual for the returning guy to come up short, but New Japan does that sometimes and it can work as a longer build to the first win. Still, it is Chicago (sort of), so my gut says Punk wins to let us feel special.
Kenny Omega vs. Christian Cage - Omega is defending the AEW men's world title. For months, Omega held four different belts, representing championships in AEW, AAA, and Impact Wrestling. But on August 13 Christian defeated Omega for the Impact/TNA world title (and later retired the TNA belt), leaving Kenny more vulnerable than ever. The AAA and Impact titles aren't at stake in this match, so no matter who what happens the winner will be a double champion.
Cage is a great wrestler, but not a great challenger for this match. For months the storytelling pointed towards Hangman Page in this spot, but Page was abruptly written off television so he could take paternity leave. I don't think anybody resents Christian for filling in, but nobody really expects the 47-year-old, recently returned from a seven-year retirement, to win the big one. It's also a rematch of something we already saw a few weeks ago, which isn't a big deal but it's a bit of a talking point when everyone is always dogging WWE for excessive rematches.
The big go-home angle on September 1 was that Omega, the Young Bucks, and their buddies destroyed Christian, the Lucha Bros., and their buddies. After the show went off the air Tony Khan promised that this kind of bullshit interference wouldn't happen in the Bucks-Lucha Bros. cage match. Well, okay, but this match doesn't have a steel cage, so I have a feeling there will be plenty of bullshit interference. And I'm willing to bet that interference gives Omega the win while somewhat protecting Christian.
Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson vs. Penta El 0M & Rey Fenix - The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick) are defending the AEW tag team title. The Lucha Bros. won a four-team tournament to earn this shot. The Bucks have relied on a lot of outside interference from their entourage lately, so to counter that this match will be held inside a steel cage. In AEW, the only way to win a cage match is by pinfall or submission.
I was at All Out 2019 when these teams last met in a crazy ladder match (which feels like a million years ago). Everyone raved about it, and also worried that the Bucks damn near killed themselves. Personally I had a really shitty view of the ring, which made it hard to follow the match. This time I've got a much better view, so I'm looking forward to some good karma.
In theory the Bucks have sworn off doing the dangerous shit from the ladder match, but technically this is a cage match so maybe they'll just do different dangerous shit. Personally I'm more intrigued by seeing them change their game to fit in the confines of the cage, which doesn't lend itself to springboard flips off the ropes. But the cage has places to stand at the top, which will encourage the idea of setting up crazy highspots.
I feel like a title change is possible, but I could just as easily see the Bucks hold the belts for another six months. Santana and Ortiz seem to be next in line for a shot, and honestly I think that would work with either of these teams. But I guess I'll lean towards the Bucks retaining.
Chris Jericho vs. MJF - MJF defeated Jericho on November 7, 2020, to earn entry into Jericho's stable, the Inner Circle. MJF inevitably betrayed Jericho and formed his own stable, the Pinnacle, which beat the Inner Circle on May 5, 2021. Jericho was so determined to get revenge that he accepted MJF's terms to perform five "labors" to earn a rematch, but MJF beat Jericho once again on August 18, 2021. So now MJF is 3-0 against Jericho. (For some reason we're counting the ten-man match on May 5 but not the other one on May 30, which Jericho's team won, but whatever.) To get this final rematch, Jericho has put his career on the line.
Suddenly everything else in this storyline has taken a back seat to the idea that this may really be the end of Chris Jericho's 30-year in-ring career. There are plenty of fans who think Jericho, 50, should hang it up, but now that it might actually happen I think people aren't so sure they're ready for it all to end. The timing for Jericho to tease this is perfect, because he could easily just win and go another couple of years, or he could easily just finish today.
Part of what makes this work so well is MJF. I think everyone recognizes that MJF is going to be a top name in the 2020s, and that Jericho wants to make this guy. So it's like, if Jericho can get retired by anyone he wants, why wouldn't he pick MJF? I think the match will feel a little flat if Jericho comes up short yet again, but if it's the end of his career it suddenly doesn't matter if he's lost too many times, y'know?
Still, something tells me this isn't the end. Something tells me Jericho has more he wants to do. And something tells me, in a few years, we may be wondering if it would have been better if he retired on this show.
Britt Baker vs. Kris Statlander - Baker is defending the AEW women's world title. I expect to like this match but there's not really much to it. Baker was feuding with Red Velvet a while back and then Statlander made the save for Velvet. Baker and her crony Rebel have brought in Jamie Hayter to stack the deck against Statlander and Velvet. I think it's way too soon for Baker to drop the title, and I don't expect Kris to be the one to take it from her. So this is kind of a formality to kill time until Baker vs. Thunder Rosa down the road.
Miro vs. Eddie Kingston - Miro's AEW TNT championship is on the line. Somehow in the past year Miro has gone from Kip Sabian's gamer buddy to a monster heel who thinks God has anointed him to beat the shit out of people. Kingston has gone from a gutless heel to the most beloved guy in AEW. Wrestling is great.
Anyway, I love both of these guys, but I can't just bet that all the wrestlers have a good time. If Eddie's going to win a championship, it really ought to be in New York. I realize Chicago is AEW's favorite and we get all the good shit, but I've had my CM Punk ice cream and I'm maaaaaybeee going to get the Bryan Danielson debut too, so I'm willing to let New York have this one thing. Just this one time.
Jon Moxley vs. Satoshi Kojima - Moxley is the new GCW world champion following a surprise appearance at last night's GCW show; I assume that does not turn this into a title match. Moxley told top contender Nick Gage "you know where to find me," and it's anyone's guess if Gage will show up here to accept that invitation.
Mox is a busy boy making friends everywhere he goes. For a few weeks he was angling for a match with a top New Japan Pro Wrestling star on this show. The leading candidate was Hiroshi Tanahashi, but several other interesting names were discussed by fans and pundits alike. After that buzz, Kojima is a bit of a letdown.
Don't get me wrong, it's cool to get a guy who's held the IWGP heavyweight title, the All Japan Triple Crown, and the NWA world title. Kojima's a legend. But at this stage of his career, he's the guy New Japan sends when the real stars aren't available. Besides which, my cup runneth over when it comes to 50-year-old guys showing up to prove they can wrestle like they're 40. And I don't think anybody really believes Kojima can beat Moxley.
Ideally, this match should end with a video message from a bigger New Japan name calling out Moxley. I'm not confident that will happen. Then again, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Moxley showed up in NXT UK to pick a fight with WALTER.
Paul Wight vs. QT Marshall - Formerly the Giant in WCW and the Big Show in WWE, Wight debuted with AEW earlier this year as a color commentator. QT and his goons were picking on Wight's broadcast partner Tony Schiavone when Wight intervened, setting up this match.
I was actually kind of into the idea of this until Marshall showed photos of Wight's recent hip surgery. Up to that point, they'd managed to keep me from noticing if Wight could move okay, and I was willing to accept he could do a basic squash match without a problem. But now I just assume he's broken down and he'll need a lot of smoke and mirrors to do even a simple match. Maybe that's the plan, to get me to lower my expectations and be pleasantly surprised. I sure hope it works out.
I'm about 95% sure Wight clobbers QT and just wins handily. There's a chance QT's squad pulls enough shenanigans to get a bullshit win, but I'm not sure what the point would be.
21-woman Casino Battle Royale - This is AEW's funky concept for a gauntlet battle royale. Five women start the match, and then every five minutes another wave of five enters; the 21st entrant gets to come out alone. Eliminations can occur at any time, by exiting the ring over the top rope to the floor. The last woman left after the others have been eliminated is declared the winner, and receives a future title match against the AEW women's champion.
AEW has announced 20 participants: Abadon, Anna Jay, Big Swole, Diamante, Emi Sakura, Hikaru Shida, Jade Cargill, Jamie Hayter, Kiera Hogan, KiLynn King, Leyla Hirsch, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford, Rebel, Red Velvet, Riho, Skye Blue (a late substitution for Julia Hart), Tay Conti, The Bunny, Thunder Rosa.
The 21st spot has been left open for a surprise. Ruby Soho (formerly Ruby Riott in WWE) is widely expected to join AEW, and this would be a sensible spot for that to happen. But there are other women who could potentially debut here as a swerve.
I always want to pick the surprise entrant to win these things, but they really haven't done all that well in AEW battle royales. I could see them giving the win to, say, Big Swole, and just having Britt Baker beat her a few weeks later on Dynamite. Or Thunder Rosa could win to set up a major program for the next pay-per-view. They have a lot of options, which makes it hard to predict but fun to watch.
Orange Cassidy & Chuck Taylor & Wheeler YUTA & Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy vs. Matt Hardy & Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy & Jack Evans & Angelico - This is booked for the pre-show. Hardy's heel group has been feuding with most of the midcard babyfaces for months. I don't expect this match will blow off the feud, but it'd be nice if it did so we could move on to something else. Orange's team should probably win.

matthew found himself getting anxious at every all elite pay-per-view. but something about this specific revolution—— this specific main event had him more worried than usual ‘exploding barbed-wire death match’… it had problems written all over it. biting nail after nail, cuticle after cuticle. “since pacs going after the tag titles, adam’s next in line for kenny” he heard tony khan say from the headset in guerilla. matt’s heart stopped, right then and there. he had to find adam.
Matt
A few hours before the show Adam had scoped out his vantage point. A seat in the back on the ground floor at Daily’s Place. High-up, but not too far away. Even better it was an empty section. After his match with Hardy, Adam changed into street clothes, crept-out from backstage, and took his seat. While the street fight with Darby and Sting played on the big screen, the ring crew set-up for the so called, “Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match.” The crew wore thick leather gloves. They maneuvered pieces of hardware, metal, and explosives to the floor. Bryce looked like the marshmallow man from Ghostbusters. It was, without a doubt, the most elaborate, inane match idea Adam had ever seen. He never delved into that Death match shit. An occasional no DQ with chairs and table settled Adam’s need for violence, but this was next level.
And it was the exact kinda bullshit that Kenny would come up with.
The construction of a wrestling ring had always fascinated Adam. In his teenage years he shadowed production crews to shows. From them he learned how to square a ring by measuring the diagonal, how to lay down the boards, roll out the pads, and lash down the mats. Then, tightening the ropes and tying in the turnbuckles. For the cheaper productions, duct tape repaired holes torn in the apron. All the little things he didn’t have to do anymore now that he was a ‘star.’ Part of Adam missed the days on the indies when he’d show-up a day early for set-up and leave late for tear down. Get to watch a show for free that way. Somehow, watching the AEW ring crew bind explosive barbed wire around the ropes didn’t make Adam feel very nostalgic, though. Instead something cold settled in the bottom of his stomach.
Adam had brought a beer out with him and he brought the bottle to his lips. He watched the pyro tech guys rig-up the explosives with lines of electric wire. The ring crew were filtering out. The fight on the screen was winding down. Adam glanced over though as someone approached on his right. Wedging himself between the seats and coming down the row was Matt Jackson. He’d changed back into a gray, AEW jacket, his hair twisted into a quick and dirty bun. All he had for Adam was a half-smile that didn’t reach his eyes. He shoved his hands in his pockets and his throat bobbed, not meeting Adam’s gaze. Instead he focused on the dust laden concrete beneath his feet. Adam shifted in his seat, coming forward, elbows pressed into the arm rest. Matt chewed on his lip and then gestured at Adam’s hand.
“You okay?” He asked, thinly. “Matt worked you over good.”
“Oh, yeah, it’s fine,” Adam said. “Just sore.”
He looked down at his hand. An athletic trainer had wrapped it in bandages and popped him a couple ibuprofen. There was nothing broken, just some bruising and swelling. Adam’d have to get an X-ray sooner rather than later, though. After the match high ran down though it hurt like a mother. Matt and Adam stared at each other for a second, before Adam tilted his head to the side. An indication and invitation for Matt to sit. Matt sunk into the chair beside Adam, hands rubbing over his knees. His fingers pattered over his thighs and he shifted, exuding nervous energy. When he settled back into the chair it was like he was sitting back into the barbed wire in the ring.
“Congratulations, on beating the carny though,” Matt offered with a small laugh. “You guys had a good match. What are you going to do with the money?”
“Oh, yeah, uh, well I was thinking,” Adam began, he put his beer on the floor by his feet and leaned back. “I need a new lawnmower and there’s enough to pay off the mortgage— I don’t need much else so like, I told them to just, just to give the rest to some cause. Someone mentioned the public schools in Jacksonville? I liked that, so that’s kinda what we went with.”
“Seriously?” Matt breathed. “That’s amazing, Adam.”
“Fuck, I don’t want that money anyway, makes me feel dirty,” Adam admitted. He sucked on his cheek. “Chris and MJF didn’t beat you up too much did they? Ya’ll pulled it out, but it was kinda brutal to watch.”
“Oh, so you watched our match?” Matt noted. They looked at each other and something warm sparked in Adam’s chest. “Takes more than a baseball bat to keep me down. Besides that’s nothing compared to— to all this.”
Matt’s voice rasped as he flicked his finger towards the completed ring. Adam followed his gaze and got what he meant. It wasn’t the barbed wire or the explosives. It was the anticipation of seeing Kenny in the middle of that ring. Kenny, bloodied and burned and hurting, with his life on the line. There was a long, long list of shit that could go wrong. And Adam and Matt shared in common a worry wort gene. It was in their nature to look at a set-up like that, then let their minds run to all the terrifying possibilities. It was the inner instinct of ‘older brother’ in them. The shit going on Matt’s mind had already crossed Adam’s a half-dozen times.
Injury, pain, and even death, were the risks of their sport, everyone who stepped in the ring had comes to terms with their mortality. It wasn’t often though that Adam sat down for a match and was fully level with the idea that one of his oldest friends may actually die. It was a ‘holy shit’ moment, this was how far they’d come. Well over a year ago Adam remembered the way Kenny’s voice cracked over the phone when he talked about Mox. The desperate, twisted edge in his tone, jagged as broken glass. It was obsession rolled with a fragile mental health teetering over the abyss of fear, anxiety, and depression. All Adam had done was stand back and watch as Kenny was crowded to the cliff. Then, Adam witnessed the merciless hand shove Kenny over. And now, at the bottom, body and mind broken over the rocks, Kenny challenged Mox to an Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match. The entire Elite had hit rockbottom in the past six months at least once but none of them had involved explosives.
“Kenny’s gone off the fucking deep end, man” Adam observed, like he was commenting on the weather. He picked-up his beer from the floor and took a sip. “This is batshit. You let him do this?”
“It’s not like he asked us?!” Matt protested, his hands fluttered around him. “TK approved it and you know, it’s his show. Besides, it’s not exactly like Kenny is talking to us right now.”
Adam shifted in his seat. He and Kenny hadn’t been on speaking terms since October. A long run of almost six months as they awkwardly avoided each other in the hallways. Of course, Adam had his handful of ignored, attempted phone calls and double texts from back when the tag-team broke-up. He’d kept abreast of the Elite’s crazy drama and then felt quietly grateful he wasn’t apart of it. Forsaken doors, Barbed Wire Death Matches; literally everything to do with Don Callis, Impact, and the Good Brothers— no thanks. Adam got why he was out of the loop, though. Kenny getting sick of his shit and kicking him out of his life was inevitable as it was deserved— But, Kenny wasn’t talking to the Bucks either? That was a red flag. Shit, Adam shouldn’t be worried about Kenny, grown ass man that he was but—Adam took another sip from his beer and returned it to its spot by his feet. Yeah, he was kinda worried about Kenny.
“Why are you even out here?” Matt asked, an edge of accusation in his voice.
“Shit, I dunno, figured if my old tag-partner was gonna get blown-up I should at least be here to witness it?” Adam speculated, with a shrug. The buzzing crowd indicated the end of the Street Fight that Adam had been ignoring. Whispers of anticipation floated through the arena. “Maybe— I just got some shit on my mind. Trying to figure out what comes next.”
“You’re in the rankings,” Matt blurted-out. Adam glanced at Matt and met his eyes. His face was stricken in the stark lights and his throat bobbed. Music hit, Mox’s theme, moments before Adam could even think up an answer.
Mox wasn’t a bullet point on Adam’s list of relations. He was just a guy he occasionally saw backstage or in production meetings. They’d been in a ring once before. Adam kinda saw him as this hardened badass with a devil may care attitude. A weird, enigmatic guy with a prickly attitude and a hardened reputation. The flash of a silver flask, drawn from Mox’s inner jacket pocket, spoke to Adam though in a way few else in the arena would get. He understood the motivation behind the deep drink Mox indulged. If a guy like Jon Moxley needed alcohol to steady his nerves, then shit, it was really that bad. Kenny’s entrance then, was a nail in the coffin. He dressed subdued, in jeans and a shirt instead of elaborate gear. No bullshit spiel from Justin Roberts, just his music, and the belt. Adam worked his jaw and took some solace from his own beverage. Besides him, Matt shifted and squirmed, his thumb at his mouth gnawing on his already bitten down nail.
Before Ring of Honor shipped him off to Japan, Adam was never into Japanese wrestling. His library of matches included the DVR recordings of WWF matches, the local shit you could get on the TV, and eventually, the various indie shows across the South-East he attended. It was all catch wrestling, some technical shit, and whatever the Hardys were doing. Death matches, likewise, were a joke in the schools and shows he attended. “How many commas?” Was the refrain for what it’d take to get an average wrestler to do something as stupid as involve barbed wire in a match. Therefore, a Japanese, Exploding, Barbed Wire, Death Match, was completely out of Adam’s wheel house. He had no idea what to expect. What he got when the bell rang was totally outside of the realm of his imagination.
It was the little shit: Kenny was dead serious, Mox made the sign of the cross, and the methodical, slow pace they set. It was all physical strength as they jostled, tied-up with each other, all too aware of the limitations of the ring. After a year as his tag-partner, Adam was familiar with Kenny’s style. His explosive speed, how he worked the ropes, and his overwhelming energy. This was a different Kenny, almost uncomfortable in the confines of his cage. Close calls, pushing, prodding, biting each other, trying to force the other into barbed wire they treated with the respect it deserved it. Mox beat Kenny with every instrument available and Adam knew the way Kenny writhed was genuine. When Kenny sent Mox into the far ropes and a flash of fire sent billows of smoke into the arena, Matt gripped Adam’s hand like it was an instinctive reflex. He squeezed, hard, pressing his fingers around Adam’s palm. Pain shot-up Adam’s arm like a bolt of lightning. Adam hissed and reached over to pry Matt off his injured hand.
“Jesus, Matt,” Adam hissed.
Matt murmured apologies and yet his grip just switched to Adam’s wrist instead, which wasn’t much better because Adam’s whole arm was sore. Since apparently Matt needed to cling to something, Adam hooked his whole right arm around Matt’s shoulders. Then reached his left hand over to grip Matt’s hand. It was awkward and the armrest dug into Adam’s ribs but Matt rested his head in the crook of Adam’s shoulder, so it worked. Their fingers interlaced and Adam could only imagine how fucking goofy they looked. If the cameras happened to pick them up in the crowd they would never live it down. At least, Kenny had his footing in the match, he was in control, working over Mox, looking for that pin— Adam wasn’t sure if he was rooting for Kenny or not. Or, if he just kinda wanted this to be over because it was evidently mentally ripping Matt to shreds.
Wanted this to be over, the belt out of Kenny’s hands, and somewhere else, where it couldn’t be between them anymore.
Blood and smoke, broken hardware, torn skin. Kenny in the ropes, blinded by the dust, begging for water for his burned eyes. Matt’s breath, high in his throat, turning his face into Adam’s shoulder. And Adam just watched. He watched and forgot about the beer warming to room temperature by his side. A pressure built in his jaw, and yet, he couldn’t look away. No clear thoughts surfaced, nothing solid, or real. Just ideas, images, tangled together with the scene before him like the barbed wire wrapped around Mox’s arm. He didn’t allow himself to settle. Didn’t allow himself to latch onto anything, just let it all drift, staying in the moment of the violence, pain, and brutality of two men literally trying to kill each other. The sight of Kenny’s blood, red, crimson, staining his white shirt, and marring his pale skin burned Adam’s vision.
He thought back to Full Gear. The way he could tell Kenny was in his head. Always a half-step ahead. And that whole match Adam was working his ass off just to keep-up. Trying to wiggle his way into opening, taking advantage of every opportunity like a life line. He’d watched that match back a hundred times and he could every single one of his mistakes. He found a new error to fixate on each time he hit the replay button. The truth was that physically, Kenny had no significant advantage over Adam. In fact, Adam knew he had all the benefits of superior strength, better cardio, and youth. In skill, there was nothing dividing them— After that tag-team run, Adam knew he could hang with Omega. What kept Adam back, what left him behind, in the shadow of Kenny was himself. His own tangled thoughts and anxieties, burning a hole in his heart. He had stared-up the lights, like a crashed angel, and kinda accepted that final pin.
Like, he just gave-up, after bearing the burden of a year from hell. Let it all roll off his shoulders. Atlas shrugged, and the world shattered. And in the midst of broken glass, he had rebuilt. With no end goal in mind. Just, kinda up, kinda forward, one step at a time, gazed fixated on his toes so he didn’t slip in his own blood, and not ahead, and now he was looking at the ring. Accepting the smoke and blood and tears and sweat, the desperate men swinging punch-drunk as the ten minute warning sounded. It was an observation, he could note it, and let the moment past. Adam was in the rankings, number three last Tuesday, maybe higher next Tuesday. It didn’t mean anything, it didn’t have to mean anything.
Didn’t have to do anything but just sit here and hold Matt.
When the Good Brothers rushed out to the ring Matt sighed and laughed, but it was high-pitched, shaking his head. Adam watched Mox go through the chair in a One Winged Angel but all Matt was muttering was that he ‘couldn’t take this anymore.’ He didn’t want to see the ending, but he did hear the three count, and Adam admitted that his masochist desire had puttered out. So, he pushed Matt to his feet and they slid through the rows to escape the arena. Outside, fresh air, cool and tinged with the taste of the metallic city, brushed against Adam’s heated face. Matt walked to the curb outside Daily’s place and collapsed. He sat there, breathing hard and fast, head between his knees, some, strangled, broken noise erupting from his throat. Adam shoved his hands in his jean pockets and sat down next to him. A lot of noises erupted from the arena behind them but the sounds muddled with the traffic, sirens, people, nothing distinct.
“Hey,” Adam whispered, reaching for Matt’s shoulder. He placed his hand in the crook of Matt’s neck and gathered him closer to his side. Matt was still hyperventilating and so Adam ordered firmly, but not unkindly, “dude, slow down. Take a deep breath. It’s okay, it’s over.”
Matt’s entire body trembled and Adam had half a mind to break six months of radio silence by calling Nick to tell him to come get his brother. Instead, Matt collapsed against Adam, burying his face in his chest as for the first time in probably an hour, he breathed. Every tensed muscle unraveled beneath Adam’s hand as all the fight left Matt. Tears tracked trails of dust down Matt’s cheeks and Adam hummed, low in his throat. It was something content, a pleased purr. He always liked feeling useful, needed, relied upon, and to have Matt physically leaning on him like this— felt good. It felt right. He’d been dropping the Bucks and Kenny, fumbling like an idiot, for a while now. Maybe now, when he felt a little stronger, a little more firm, he could hold them right.
Maybe—
Maybe, and the thought trailed off without conclusion.
“I hate this, why can’t it just be over,” Matt gasped into Adam’s shirt. “Why can’t we— why can’t we just, just be friends again?! We should never have left Japan. This shit wouldn’t have happened if we hadn’t made this damn company. AEW was supposed to be fun, and all it did was just—just tear us apart.”
Against Adam’s thigh, Matt fisted his hand, nails biting into his palm. Adam placed his chin on top of Matt’s head. He didn’t respond to his question because he didn’t have an answer. No response that was adequate. Just a recap of all their broken dreams and failures. Matt knew the story. He didn’t need Adam to try to fix this. Adam couldn’t fix this but he could be here. He could do that.
“I want things back to how they were,” Matt admitted, and his voice was softer, but hitched with a sob.
“I don’t,” Adam said.
Matt stiffened under Adam’s arm. And Adam had a feeling the thoughts that came to his mind weren’t the most gentle thing to say to Matt as he spiraled off a panic attack— but they were maybe the things Matt needed to hear.
“I hated being in the EVP room,” Adam continued, and his voice shook. “I hated living in your shadows. I hated watching you guys go out with Kenny and be in his corner, while I always had my matches alone. I hated— I hated being the weak link. I hated never feeling like I belonged. Like, I never deserved to be your friend.”
“Hangman—” Matt pulled back to look at Adam, his eyes wet with tears.
“No, no, Matt listen,” Adam insisted. He hooked his hand around the back of Matt’s neck. “This shit, would’ve happened in Japan, or NXT, or Ring of Honor, no matter where we went. Because wherever you go, there you are, and we carried our baggage here.”
“I just had no idea we made you so miserable,” Matt confessed. “That we made you—”
“Dude, I made myself miserable,” Adam laughed, interrupting him. “All up in my head and shit, and I’m done with that. I’m done with the bullshit and the drama. Maybe, I’m not the best, but I just wanna—I wanna focus on, I don’t know, having fun? Doing what I can. Forget about the stupid title.”
“So, you’re not going to challenge Kenny?” Matt asked. He reached for Adam’s face, pressed his palm to Adam’s cheek. Adam shivered under his touch, tongue darting out to wet his lips.
“I don’t know,” Adam admitted. He ducked his head but Matt smoothed his thumb over Adam’s cheekbone and forced him to look up again. Forced him to meet Matt’s dark eyes, and Adam had no choice but to think, Holy shit, I love him. So, he whispered and confided, “I don’t know if I can.”
“I think you can,” Matt said. He inched closer so they were thigh-to-thigh, he tilted Adam’s face down to knock their foreheads together. Adam could hear the smile on his lips. “Someone has to knock some sense into Kenny. I don’t want to see my best friends fight but—”
“Matt,” Adam sighed. His hand reached across to Matt’s opposite hip.
“What?” Matt asked. Adam nuzzled his nose into his cheek. “Adam?”
“Nothing,” Adam smiled.
And he couldn’t help but to wonder why Matt believed in him when no one else did. What he saw that he recognized as potential. Matt’s patience as Adam strayed and wandered— that the frustration, read more as worry now than anger. And it was Adam that Matt sought out tonight. And Matt wasn’t shoving him away as he leaned in, the ghost of his breath on Matt’s bottom lip. Then, Matt’s phone rang and he was cussing, digging into his pockets. He checked the collar ID, noted it was Nick and murmured bashful excuses to Adam before answering. Adam leaned back on his hands, scratching his boot heels against the pavement.
“Hey, man,” Matt intoned, a hand running through his hair. HIs voice was still raw and he swallowed hard, putting on a mask of cool, stoicism for his little brother. “What’s up?”
Adam heard the low rumble of Nick’s voice on the other side. Chewing out Matt for vanishing during production. TK needed them ASAP, and Matt was nodding, promising he’d show-up soon. He just needed some time to get some fresh air.
“Is everyone okay?” Matt asked, and Adam leaned forward to hear the response.
“Yeah, everyone’s okay, Kenny, Mox, and fucking, Eddie? He ran out there right before the bomb went off, the idiot,” Nick grumbled. “But it was a fucking dud. It didn’t go off at all— the fans actually boo’ed, I can’t tell if TK is furious or relieved. I mean, Kenny made it so I don’t know what we expected—”
Adam choked on a laugh, leaning his elbows on his knees. His entire shoulders shook as cackles broke out of his chest and he covered his mouth to hide the noise. Adam barely registered Nick asking Matt who he was with before Matt hung-up the phone. Matt shook his head and then he was laughing too, breaking the tide of all the bundled, nervous fear that had held them. Adam knew in his head there was way more shit to work out between them. That they weren’t out of the woods yet and his heart was too tender, too fragile, to take another break but— it felt better.
In some ways, it almost felt good, and ‘almost good’ is a state Adam hadn’t been in for a long time.
“You should uh, go do your job,” Adam suggested.
Matt pushed to his feet and Adam stood too. He felt that awkwardness, the unacknowledged weirdness of almost making out with your not-best-friend, or the fact that they’re supposed to hate each other right now. All the crap that was still between them, all the land mines of conversations not yet triggered. Maybe, they were untangling the barbed wire. Closing the distance inch-by-inch, and it was magnetic, almost inevitable— but Adam wasn’t sure if he was ready to stand beside Matt. Maybe because he was afraid of being hurt again. Maybe because he was dead terrified of the air in the EVP room when he was swallowing all his words. Maybe, because he had always walked behind, and never beside.
He asked Matt, last year, for a little more time, and apparently, he still needed a little more yet.
“Yeah, uh, talk to you later, I guess,” Matt managed. When he breathed there was a shutter, the residuals of his panic attack. Adam figured if he was with his brother, he’d be fine. Nick would take care of him. Adam worried about a lot things but he never worried about the Bucks because they always had each other.
“Yeah,” Adam nodded. “See ya.”
Matt turned back to the arena first. Adam stood there, watching him walking away and refusing to let his thoughts roll over it.
It is what it is.

The feuds developed over the first three shows in company history laid the foundation for Saturday's event before the weekly TNT show begins Oct. 2.
None, however, have gotten as deeply personal as Cody Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears. The feud began with no obvious backstory as to why Spears plastered Cody on the head with a chair at Fyter Fest. It's blossomed because of the intricate storytelling AEW fans hoped to see. President Tony Khan promised more gripping entertainment than what wrestling fans have been used to in recent years, and the buildup for Cody and Spears' feud has been a highlight.
Below is a breakdown of the rivalry until now. Watch their match and the rest of the All Out event Saturday on B/R Live.
Background
Although the friendship between Rhodes and Spears wasn't highly publicized before the chair shot, AEW set the larger stage for their feud through the YouTube series, Road to All Out. AEW established Rhodes and Spears' history of camaraderie during their time at Ohio Valley Wrestling, WWE's former developmental territory. There, the two were a tag team and won the promotion's tag titles twice.
In 2006, Spears taught a young Rhodes, only a handful of professional matches into his wrestling career, about the business.
"It started in OVW. It started with me," Spears said in an interview with AEW's Jim Ross during a Road to All Out episode. "He came in, and I taught him to wrestle. Those were his words, and he's made it public knowledge. ... He's a leech. He latched on, bled me dry and moved on in his ascent to the AEW hierarchy.
"Bottom line is he's forgotten who he was. He was in my inner circle. He forgot that I was there for the 50th wedding anniversary of his parents. He forgot that I sat at his table for Thanksgiving dinner. We were like brothers."
Harboring a deep resentment is a time-tested way to kick-start a wrestling angle, and this one planted the seeds for Spears to turn on Rhodes the moment the latter said "great hand."
"Great Hand"
In an episode of Road to All Out before June's Fyter Fest, Rhodes described Spears as a "great hand" to Nik Sobic, AEW's vice president of business operations, about The Perfect 10 signing for their company.
"He could potentially be a player-coach," Rhodes said. "He's great for the young guys and is a great hand, so I'm happy with it."
That's a compliment—usually. A hand is someone skilled in the ring and good to work with. Superstars can be hands and so can midcarders. It also can be a condescending dig at a guy who can work but is not going to be a star. For the purposes of this feud, Spears is selling it as a dig that he's never going to be a top star in the company. He's merely a good wrestler used to put over better guys.
Rhodes sees Spears as someone whom younger wrestlers at AEW can go to for advice and that he can help guide, similarly to what Spears did for Rhodes at OVW. As shown by his actions at Fyter Fest just weeks later, Spears was not pleased with this description.
The Chair Shot Heard Around the World
Rhodes had just finished a thrilling match against Darby Allin that reached its 20-minute time limit and ended in a draw. The crowd was hot already, and Spears jogged down the ramp with a chair in hand.
The crowd grew louder as The Perfect 10 raised the chair over his head and waited for Rhodes to turn around. When he finally did, Spears walloped his victim with a vicious, unprotected shot reminiscent of the Attitude Era.
A puddle of blood could be seen gushing out of Rhodes' head as he laid on the canvas with Spears standing over him. Brandi Rhodes, Cody's wife and the chief brand officer of AEW, rushed to the ring as she and referee Aubrey Edwards begged Spears to not take any further action. With an emptiness in his eyes, Spears left through the crowd.
The moment went viral—but probably not for the reason AEW wanted. Fans debated the recklessness of allowing someone to take a chair shot to the head. WWE banned them in 2006. Khan and the Young Bucks said after Fyter Fest that the blood was not intentional. The gimmicked chair used as a precaution mistakenly injured Rhodes.
Regardless, even more eyes were on the impending Rhodes-Spears feud now. The bludgeoning of Rhodes added to the perceived disdain Spears has for him, and that was the point. The chair shot confirmed how personal this feud was going to get.
Reaction
Fans were left to wonder why Spears did that since the friendship between them wasn't highlighted until after the chair shot. The explanation came in his interview with Ross.
"Cody crossed the line," Spears said. "You don't call someone a good hand. It's the curse of this industry to be called a good hand. He should know better. Clearly he forgot, and that's why I wrapped a steel chair around his face. Sometimes people just need to be reminded."
The angle: Spears felt disrespected by Rhodes and believes his time at AEW will transcend that of just someone there to help others. He wants to be a face of the company and doesn't care who he has to confront to get that message across.
Reaction from within Rhodes' circle came in hot and heavy as his close friend, MJF, called Spears a "piece of s--t" in the buildup to their match at Fight for the Fallen two weeks later. Brandi Rhodes followed it up with a three-minute episode of Road to All Out solely dedicated to her thoughts on what happened and a warning to Spears on what's going to happen to him at All Out.
"He was your friend, and yet you took an unforgiving steel chair and ended all of that to make a name for yourself. ... That blood that I saw coming out of the back of his head may as well have been a mirror into your future. ... Ten staples to the back of my beloved's head was your 15 minutes. I really hope you enjoyed them."
This feud feels personal, and bringing in the opinion of others close to Rhodes to chime in emphasized that. However, Spears also didn't mind bringing in people to back him up.
Tully Blanchard
Toward the conclusion of Spears' interview with Ross, he told AEW's lead commentator he had an ace up his sleeve. In walked Tully Blanchard, a WWE Hall of Fame member best known for being one of the Four Horsemen alongside Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson and Ric Flair.
Why bring in Blanchard? As Spears put it, his history of competing against Rhodes' father, Dusty, will give him psychological insight into what he can expect from Cody. After all, Blanchard and Dusty did wrestle together 184 times.
"I got a phone call from a great athlete who was feeling underappreciated," Blanchard said in an interview on Road to All Out. "He asked me how to get his career to the top. I said if you take down one of the Rhodes, that'll get you to the top in anyone's book. I probably knew Dusty as well as anyone across the ring. I know what makes the Rhodes family tick. Shawn has asked me to give him that knowledge."
Bringing in a name of Blanchard's ilk adds prestige and even more background as to why Spears assaulted Rhodes. Blanchard telling his protege that the quickest way to gain some respect around AEW is to go after the man he felt underappreciated by in the first place is compelling, in-depth storytelling.
Blanchard set the scene at All Out even further with one key stipulation.
The Stipulation and What We Can Expect From All Out
The contract signing on Road to All Out was brief, with Rhodes entering the room where Spears and Blanchard, along with a group of AEW officials, awaited the arrival of The American Nightmare. Rhodes walked in, signed the contract and left without saying more than a couple of words.
Before that, though, Blanchard and Spears added a clause in the contract stating that only one person would be allowed in the corner of each competitor during the match. It was obvious who would accompany Spears, but who accompanies Rhodes has yet to be announced.
Could it be Brandi or MJF? Could we see someone from Blanchard's past who can match wits with the Horseman? There are plenty of options, most whom already have their own stake in the feud. The surprise addition will add another layer to this bout.
This is the promotion's first real test in building a storyline that stretched for months, and so far it's worked. AEW's four events before its weekly show begins have given the promotion the opportunity to get its feet wet creatively. This feud has yet to feel far-fetched or disingenuous.
The match itself is what fans will really remember. If both wrestlers—and everyone else involved in the match—can deliver a satisfying finish, it would be a strong bridge to the start of AEW's weekly television.

Full Gear 2022 Predictions
Hella brief, let's go (SPOILERS)!
Eddie Kingston vs Jun Akiyama - Honestly a coin toss, but I'll say Eddie wins.
Best Friends vs The Factory - No question, Best Friends.
Brian Cage vs Ricky Starks - GIVE US STARKS. GIVE US STARKS.
Triple Threat TNT Champ Match - Another coin toss (or dice roll?), but I think it'll go to Hobbs to keep the title fresh.
Jade Cargill vs Nyla Rose - God I want Nyla to win so bad, and she should, but I think it's going to Jade.
4 Way ROH Champ Match - This is honestly a skip for me, but I'm saying Jericho retains so Bryan wins it in a 1 on 1.
Jeff and Jay vs Darby and Sting - Darby and Sting, hopefully Darby pinning Jeff and letting that be a one off/blowoff.
Britt Baker vs Saraya - Saraya wins her debut match, and honestly... I'm skipping this one too because I'm just not invested in either.
Jack Perry vs Luchasaurus - Jack wins, and I want that win to come from a conchairto. He'd have to scar himself and put his old friend down because he knows he's resilient as f*ck and won't stay down otherwise. (congrats, you've found the match i'm most hyped for)
Ethan Page vs Ricky Starks - GIVE US STA- for real though (CENSORED) vs Starks would be a very enjoyable program.
The Acclaimed vs SIOG - The Acclaimed retains and SIOG break up. I've been loving all of the matches they've put out thus far.
Toni Storm vs Jamie Hayter - Again, I really want it to go to Jamie, and honestly, have both Toni and Jamie recognized as actual champions, if Rosa will be out for this long, she should be stripped of the title. But I'm thinking Toni wins.
The Elite vs Death Triangle - I think the brewing inner conflict with Death Triangle will lead to the Elite winning.
Jon Moxley vs MJF - MJF wins. Clean. No Regal bullshit, no Firm bullshit, he wins clean. This is his moment, just let it happen.
