And almost no one talks about him. Tragic
Vaemond deserves so much more, he stood up to the most delusional king ever so his family seat would stay in his family and yet everyone treats him like he was unreasonable.
Vaemond was this generation’s Ned stark if Ned was gaslit for near 20 years with a king more ineffective than Robert Baratheon when he’s black out drunk.

Fanfic Idea! (Lucemond, where Lucerys writes letters and clues for Aemond)
Young Lucerys loves re-enacting things made from books, and in one book, he decided to do it with his favorite uncle, a letter hunting!
He would hide letter all over the castle, and uncle Aemond would need to find them. Aemond didn't really want to play this sort of game, but by the time he found the third letter with the fourth riddle clue, he turned competitive, scouring the place. The riddles and clues were relatively easy, until Lucerys began asking for help from the Maesters.
Aemond and Lucerys enjoyed this little game, and would often go to ridiculous lengths hiding and finding the letters, with Lucerys hanging upside down a chandelier, and Aemond breaking a portion of the star of the Faith.
Then the pig happened, and the incident with Aemond's eye and Lucerys' throat and nose.
Years later, after the death of Vaemond and saving the Driftmark throne for Lucerys, Aemond began finding new letters, and though he hated him and wished him gone, these new letters intrigued him, because it had a story made by Lucerys himself, about a man with a bright amethyst eye, a pirate with an eyepatch and a scar, and the game begin again.
After Aemond killed Lucerys in Storm's End, he began to search for the letters left behind, both from the distant past of their childhood, to their recent little game. He kept them like a dragon would a treasure, and every night, he would read them, over and over, imprinting his words in his heart, searing them into his brain. He would re-read the ridiculous riddles to find for the next letter, to feel Lucerys' presence in his life once more.
He found the last one under the tree his mother used to favor, despite her belief in Faith. He dug it up to reveal a knife made of Valyrian steel, and a letter wrapped around it's hilt.
"-and so, to help his dear friend, his companion, the little merman decided to give up his eye, so his pirate comrade could feel whole once more. With the knife given to the pirate, he makes the choice, and whichever one he chooses, the merman would accept it wholeheartedly."
-Uncle, I am ready, if you still feel the need to have my eye, come and find me. Take my eye, if you wish. Let it be the end of our quarrels. Let us be united as a family once again.
I missed you, Uncle.

So Aemond or Daemon, who’s the more violent one? (I’m not standing on a moral high ground judging, I love my violent fictional mans! I just find it interesting to think about since these two hotties are supposed to be a mirror of each other— and in fanfics Aemond just casually walks up to the guy who’s been sleazy with y/n and beats the shit out of him lol. I think many people has painted older Aemond pretty much a “high school bully” while clearly he’s far from it, there’s so much more to his character.
I definitely don’t think show canon Aemond would be the first to throw physical punches at his opponent as we already saw from his few scenes where he’s quite restrained and reactionary, his wits is his weapon as much as his physical prowess and that’s how he gains the upper hand in a confrontation. In this case I think Daemon is actually the more violent one who is easily agitated and expresses his feelings through excessive brute strength .
What do you think? And thanks for bearing with me!
Daemon definitely has the more explosive temper of the two, he is volatile, but not without reason. He slices Vaemond's head in half because Vaemond calls Rhaenyra, his wife and niece, a whore. That should make any man angry, and yeah, it's a bit of an extreme response, but Daemon doesn't do things by half measures. Likewise, when he beats that messenger with his helmet, it's because he feels belittled and undermined by Viserys - he interprets Viserys' offer of help as thinking Daemon can't get the job of conquering the Crabfeeder done on his own. In that moment, he'd love nothing more than to give his brother a piece of his mind, but can't so he lashes out. I don't think Daemon goes around smiting everyone that displeases him. His words are just as cutting as Dark Sister - he knows when to reign it in. For instance, choosing to call Rhea's uncle a "bronzed cunt" at Rhaenyra's wedding when he accuses him of killing Rhea. Also when Otto delivers the news of Aegon's coronation to Daemon and Rhaenyra on Dragonstone, you can see Daemon is itching to end Otto there and then, but reigns it in and calls Aegon a "drunken usurper cunt" instead. Basically, Daemon will use violence if he feels it's a situation where he can get away with it, otherwise he's dropping the C bomb.
Aemond is much more reserved. He likes to toy with people, like a cat playing with a mouse. He'll goad them into a reaction with his words, so that they lash out first and he's able to shut that shit down pronto, as he knows he has the physical advantage over most people - growing up learning to fight without any real depth perception makes him a formidable opponent and he's quietly confident he can take most people. It's definitely fuelled by arrogance - he knows he has nothing to prove, and yet is happier than a pig in shit when someone does lash out first, as it gives him the opportunity to physically humiliate them. Definitely not as volatile as Daemon, but infinitely more conniving.
Disclaimer: these are just my headcanons/opinions - not here to tell anyone they are right or wrong either way.

I’m the anon that asked about Baela a long time ago and can I just say, these chapters did not disappoint. Her character development happened organically in a way that made sense with regards to her situation. Her and Rhaena’s interactions mean everything to me, the way their conversation goes was just so enjoyable for me to read.
And awwwww! Aemond almost feels like a kicked puppy, and the way he and Rhaena immediately go back to their dynamic when they were young of arguing and just pushing their heads in the sand when it comes to sentimentality but you just know they care about each other so much…. I am a parent of two divorced children! (Can they be divorced if they never got to be married?)
I also love the depth we were given about Laena and Laenor through the eyes of the girls. You’ve really painted such a deep,t rich and complex picture of both that the show seemed grossly uninterested in. Every time grand uncle Vaemond is brought up, Oh my heart hurts considering what’s going to happen!
I know you said you don’t like these chapters as much, but as a loyal reader, they’re great. This fic is great. You do some great stuff! Can’t wait to see more!
Thank you!!!
I remember this one. Somewhere along the way, I really wanted to just give up on Baela and move along to happy times. I was like "who is reading this rhaemond fic for Rhaena to go on a rant with her sister? It's already a slow burn, you're gonna turn it into an emotional bog." And then I answered your ask and was like "Can't delete it now, just keep going." 😅
Family is such a big part of the ice and fire worldbuilding. Sibling relationships play such an active role. And here we have Laenor and Laena who never speak to each other...
Everyone's not the main character, but every character should be the main character in their own story. Everybody should have thoughts, goals, motivations, etc. If I had time, I'd write a ton of fanfics for Laena. This girl did not claim Vhagar at 15 just to end up in the credits as Dead Wife #2. Laenor didn't claim Seasmoke just to run off to a farm up north.
Aemond 😹
I swear, he's half the fun. How could I not make him a disaster puppy?
Dude's only examples of relationships are his parents (where his mother is living under threat of having her tongue cut out); his mother and Criston (who are co-running an aroace book club where he's the only other member 😂); his brother and sister (who I'm head-canoning as the most awkward pairing to be around); and Rhaenyra's supremely ill-advised game of fuck-marry-kill. And then when you add in the brothel experience on top of that...
Suffice it to say that I'm not going with cool dude, romantic sex god Aemond (who's from the books???)
I'm going with this guy
who just wants to start his own fireplace book club 👉 👈😕
And Rhaena's even worse off because when she thinks love/marriage/childbirth, she's like
Neither of them are topping the EQ charts.
🤣🤣🤣
(I'm lolling so hard thinking about Aemond at a book club meeting looking at the time and trying to remind Criston they have fight club right after)

Just wanted to say how much I've been enjoying Targaryen Doe. It's one of my favourite fanfics, and it always brightens's my day to see an update in my emails!
It's so difficult to find team green fics, and even ones that are supposed to be neutral highlight the faults of team green and gloss over the faults of team black.
I love that you write Aemond as he is, and not as some volatile mini Daemon as so many seem to view him. And it's been really nice to see Vaemond's death dealt with and viewed as an actual murder. So many fans seem to totally ignore his death, or think it was justified because he called Rhaenyra a whore. Obviously Viserys wouldn't do anything about it, but I thought Vaemond should have been protected by guest rights.
Thank you so much! Seeing people's comments and this message makes me so happy 💖
I think being neutral is really hard to do with house of the dragon cause they're such polarising factions! Which is why I am very happy to say that I am definitely biased towards the greens 😂 But I'm glad you enjoy the team green-ness of it 😂
Oh, thank you so much for saying that! I actually find Aemond so hard to write, like the adult version has about 10 lines the entire first season, it's difficult to try and glean a full personality from that. But definitely not a mini-Daemon!
In my opinion, from what we've been shown so far Daemon and Aemond are really different in their motivations and personality. Their upbringing was almost entirely opposite and the core values instilled in them are also practically opposite. Perhaps because they're both quite intense and well, war-criminals, it's a lot easier to see the surface similarities than the differences? I don't know, honestly!
I really wanted Vaemond's death to be a big deal because it is a big deal! Even if he did commit the 'crime' of calling Rhaenyra's sons bastards, (and called her a whore which felt more like a reason to give fans to cheer for his death than something anyone would actually say), the punishment would be to have his tongue cut out. What Daemon did was act entirely out of line as a Lord and kill him. It was not the right punishment, it was not his punishment to give and it was straight up murder! Like imagine if Renly had killed a Lord in the middle of the throne room and in front of Robert and he did fuck all! It just, it isn't done!
I don't think guest right protects you from other guests which Daemon was. Also, Vaemond probably forfeited guest right when he comitted treason. Maybe? Honestly, the rules are a bit convoluted.
Thank you for the message 💖
