Paris Special Thoughts
Alright, I've seen the new special and will be giving my thoughts. Minor/major spoilers ahead so, be warned.
I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. Truly. But! I will preface this with this:
THIS IS NOT AN ANTI-VERSE CASE
I'm sure a good portion of us were expecting this, but this is far from the case. This is just like any AU and I loved it! It was different, it was great, I loved the world-building, the characterizations of Shady and Claw, everything. Even the emotional resolution felt earned. Shady seeing Marinette's diary and Claw venting his frustrations. It just felt, well, right. Even Shady and Claw's troubles felt real to me seeing these sort of issues in teens given the line of work I'm involved in. I can see their motivations for what they are, why their trauma would lead them to their decisions, and more.
I also appreciated the explanation of Tikki in the beginning when questioned about the multiple universes. I thought I would be annoyed that they were just now addressing it, but nah, it was good.
I also really loved the ending snippet where Monarch attempted to visit different universes and I absolutely adored the different AUs. The Mister Bug and Lady Noire, Scarabella and Kitty Noire, the comic book, and especially the anime one. It was fun and was just really nice.
Overall, I loved it. Claw was unhinged, but just as much a dork as Chat. The Bugs are amazing. Hesperia, I mean, Betterfly snickers was great. I loved his origin, world, situation, everything. I also love how it's implied that Emilie died in the line of action for a better world and fuck it was good. If anyone writes out that world, send me a link. I would be very interested in reading it.
Good special, good time, highly recommend.

A lot of people who have never watched it assume that because âXena: Warrior Princessâ is a 90âs TV show, watching it today, it would come across as dated.
That assumption is not accurate. Xena was actually ahead of its time in many ways. Really, the only things âdatedâ about it is the CGI and some poorly thought out transfemme caricatures used for comedic relief.
Itâs socio-political discourse was very far ahead in time to the point that if the gender critical people that of today watched even just one episode, they would most definitely claim that itâs âwokeâ because of the women empowerment and LGBTQ+ ideas, themes and narratives. Itâs very pro-feminism unlike its predecessor, âHercules: The Legendary Journeysâ that had males as lead characters rather than females. Itâs the type of TV show you could watch where youâd be reminded of many other women-led and WLW shows of recent. But this really was the first one that took women seriously as TV art/entertainment action heroes as well as very serious romantic domestic partners. Itâs not âdatedâ as far as the writing goes because you constantly get three-dimensional characters. Both male and female.
Itâs a much more realistic and validating experience. However, with it being the âfirstâ, it has its setbacks.
Such as the queer representation enclosed in subtext and ambiguity. Something of which I personally prefer when it comes to WLW representation because of the vast room for interpretation it allows but many would not. But once again, even though this is true, the writing comes through regardless of that and the romantic chemistry between the two lead female characters is good enough that itâs a non-issue because it still provides an authentic and compelling long term loving relationship between two women that you wonât or would very rarely see elsewhere. I mean I havenât seen anything in TV art/entertainment that really matches the relationship between them, let alone supersedes it.
Itâs the FIRST and itâs the BEST as far as Iâm concerned.
There are other ways it shows its age but for the most part itâs something that will still be very enjoyable and interesting to watch being aware of the way things are today, which canât be said of so many other 90âs shows.
Give it a watch. If the pilot doesnât get you (it will), you can tell me I donât have a clue what Iâm talking about. I acknowledge its flaws and mistakes but when weighing the pros and cons, I think those things just go to prove to you its overall accomplishments given its 90âs made.
I implore people that watch it to keep focused on the historical context surrounding its production so that they can understand just how far ahead in time it was. It was much harder to achieve what it actually achieved then compared to now. Partly,⌠because it achieved it.
There are so many TV shows I could tell you wouldnât have been successful or even wouldnât have happened without it. Buffy. Charmed. Wynonna Earp. Warrior Nun. I could go on⌠Itâs such a strange thing to think about that partially the reason why it stood the test of time was because it was the first one to attempt to stand it.
Because its creators were fearless and crazy and brave.
They are also men. Straight white middle-aged men.
And they created this wonderful pro-fem TV show with so much in it that is admired and appreciated today by so many women and feminists and gay or queer people.
Itâs not perfect. But itâs honest and itâs truly on our side.

I've just finished watching Damsel on Netflix and it's good! Like it is exactly what the trailer shows you - a Princess marries what she thinks is Prince Charming only to be used as a ritual sacrifice.
But it's not an unrealistic version of it with a Mary Sue and 2D characters. It's not easy for Elodie or painless, she certainly doesn't do it without help. Everyone else in it are actual people with selfish reasons for doing things and fallible.
It's not award winning or really trying to be anything other than what it is but it's good and the actors in it are amazing. Shohreh Aghdashloo plays the dragon in it! Her voice gives me shivers

CARRIER
Filmed in 2005, CARRIER is a 10-part series filmed aboard the USS Nimitz. CARRIER is a character-driven immersion in the high- stakes world of a nuclear aircraft carrier. The episodes follow a core group of characters as they navigate their jobs, families, faith, patriotism, love, the rites of passage and the war on terror.
youtube
The show does not focus only on the pilots and aircraft aboard the carrier, but it is an amazing look at the good, the bad, and the worse. The pilots are reoccurring but the main episode featuring carrier operations related to the aircraft can be viewed on Episode 7: Rites of Passage. To be blunt, I can only describe the show as ugly. The good times shown on the show are incredibly good, but overall it makes me sad. It feels like Iâm watching an incredibly beautiful travesty. The show covers the stuff that you might not want to know about and it definitely is a reality check to what people go through to protect our country for us.
Regardless of your opinions of the military or any of the conflicts we have participated in (trust me when I say they donât shy away from such topics) the show is worth a watch. I take comfort knowing that the truth always likes somewhere in the middle and I suggest you watch with the same mindset.
Itâs not an easy watch, itâs not something I became obsessed with, but itâs still enthralling. If you watch any, I recommend Rite of Passage as it covers aviation more than some of the other episodes. Additionally, fans of the Fighter Pilot Podcast may recognize the familiar voice of Vincent âJell-Oâ Aiello as one of the pilots on the show. Heâs not featured often, but he does make an occasional appearance!
Watch the entire show FOR FREE at Archive.org(see link below).
NOTE!!!!!!!! The order of the episodes on the website are wrong!!!! Episode 10 is slotted after episode 1 so donât make the mistake I did of watching them out of order!!!!

Reviews while I watch UniteUp!: Episode 12 Finale
Oh my word. I canât believe this is coming to an end. This show was honestly so fun and probably my favourite idol anime that Iâve watched so far. Letâs get into this final episode.Â
They be nervous for the first live performance.Â
I like the calmness and the buildup of the opening. How all the groups have developed and now come together because if it.Â
That is a huge stadium.
Oooo. Is Anela performing?
Ahhhhhhh. Anela is performing!!! Yeee. Favourite group.Â
This final episode is just going to be a bunch of performances and I love it.Â
Those two are great.Â
And dealing with the backlash as well. Nice. And theyâre carrying on the performance! Yay!Â
Daiki cries. Shame man.Â
And they jump out the stage. That was great.Â
Completely different style of music.Â
Man just yeeted the mic.Â
Once again. Different style of music.Â
Ooo. Blue hair has nice solo.Â
And onto Protostar. They get such a pretty opening.Â
News flash? Ohhh. Thatâs so sweet.Â
Protostar reminds me the most of the bands in idol anime. Their music that is.Â
Now Akira cries.Â
Different bands with different gloves. Noice attention to detail.Â
Annnnnnd the opening song is the final song. Common trope but I still love it.Â
Aw. A heart from the audience.Â
And the typical chaos that all of them bring in the aftermath. Itâs perfect.Â
Gay.Â
And he is very drunk.Â
Oh god. He is scary as all hell.Â
Nice atmosphere. They kept in a slight echo for the open auditorium.Â
The three of them are so cute. I really want to see more of the different groups.Â
----final thoughts----
By god, that was a fun one. I never knew idol animes could be done so well. Everything felt so authentic - even the drama. All the characters felt real and motivated which can be such a challenge with such a diverse cast. I absolutely loved this anime and I really hope we get to see more of these dorks.Â
I can highly recommend this show and wish to give it an 8.8/10.

wonderful video on the subject by fellow tumblr resident @strange-aeons
Itâs come to my attention that some people are traversing the interwebs of fandom without ever hearing of the Ms. Scribe Story or the Cassandra Claire Debacle.
At surface level, this is concerning because they are awesome stories, and everyoneâs life is made a little better when they find an awesome story.
On more serious levels, fandom is a wacky place, full of people doing wacky, occasionally damaging things to each other. Some of that has evolved, but some of it is the same as it ever was. History rocks because you can learn from the mistakes of others, and maybe hurt people a little less in the future. Fandom being a giant, convoluted web of passion, some history that could use sharing goes missed.
The two stories linked are from early 2000s Harry Potter fandom. The Ms. Scribe Story is a tale of one personâs aggressive use of sockpuppets to work their way up fandom hierarchy. The Cassandra Claire Debacle is about how the top name in that fandom hierarchy is a plagiarist.
Theyâre prime examples of fandom being fandom in intensely negative ways. I donât think Iâve ever seen a brand of fandom toxicity that isnât on display in some way within these write-ups, and while that is admittedly sort of depressing, having things to point at that make you stop and think, âWait, Iâve seen this before, this is not a thing I want to be part of,â can keep you out of some of the deeper fandom pitfalls.
They are also deeply fascinating reads. If you havenât explored them before, or only know the summary versions, give them a shot.

So here's the thing: G Gundam is Sailor Moon for Boys. (Affectionate)
The Piloting System is not the plot it's just how the characters make the robots move. It's just that G Gundam gives Domon and his 4 best friends a Magical Girl Transformation Sequence directly inspired by Sailor Moon and the Inner Senshi for getting into it.
It's like 5 to 10 seconds a couple times each episode and that's it.
The Piloting System does have latex/kink overtones, but to be fair so does the Sailor Moon transformation sequence.
Cartoon Network ran Sailor Moon, Totally Spies, and G Gundam on Toonami's after school block back in the 2000's.
It's fair to say that they've all got secret kinky overtones that we missed as kids; but I don't really think any of it was as intense as the Latex photography that was often on the front page of Deviant Art back in the 2000s.
There's a video about 6 minutes long on YouTube about how similar Sailor Moon and G Gundam are to each other (very similar) and how watching and enjoying G Gundam led a guy to trying out Sailor Moon as an adult with his fiance and enjoying it, which then led him to other media similar to Sailor Moon.
"You should give media you normally wouldn't touch a chance. You never know, they might have more in common with shows or movies you already enjoy."
youtube
#Seriously G Gundam has the same level of nudity and fan service and kink overtones that Sailor Moon does.#đ¤ˇââď¸#There's also a Legally Distinct Sailor Scout Gundam also which was fun and was actually part of me picking the show up when I was a kid#Also yes there was absolutely crossover art and fic back in the day#It's hard to find now though#g gundam#Youtube#Also so glad I got to watch that video I was originally just looking for side by side transformation sequences but found this gem#That said pretty much everything I wanted to#The environmental and anti-classist messages are important to this show so if you're a dirty communist hippie that likes sports anime#Give it a watch
