the actual stars of the recent reveals are the gitmob from age of sigmar, who blow the competition out of the water as always when it comes to model quality. and lore hilarity.
Tumblr media
look at that bad boy! thats a kick ass wolf with a goblin on it hero, whos lore is that the goblin is entirely ancillary well the wolf is far more intelligent and long lived. the wolf is the actual hero/boss there and its great!

The king of behemoths wearing a crown of tusk and bone
The scheming mouth of a god, riding a portent of death
The fist of a god made manifest, riding a mount of teeth and scales
The crazed prophet of the moon, and of all the things that happen under it
The beast, seeking to destroy the sun, shepherding a figurehead into battle
The king from another world, ready to devour
And the one who burst from a mountain to unite them long enough to destroy everything

Rippa Narkbad
Rippa's Snarlfangs
Warhammer Underworlds
Season 3
Beastgrave
Amongst the Gitmobs, it is no crime to launch a leadership challenge by trying to stab your Gitlord in the back. It is, however, inadvisable to mess it up. When Rippa Narkbad’s bid for power went horribly wrong, he chose rapid and self-imposed exile over the messy death he would undoubtedly have faced if he had hung about. His two best ladz, Stabbit and Mean-eye, came with him, more out of guilt by association than any real sense of loyalty. Down but not defeated, Rippa has led his grumbling and mutinous companions to Beastgrave in pursuit of the magnificently shiny choppa he sees every night in his dreams. With that blade in his hand, surely Rippa could ride back to his tribe and claim rulership over the headless corpses of all his old rivals…

I've seen some instagram mentions and scans of Gitmob concept art by John, do you know where they might be in a more findable context? Insta isn't great for these things sometimes
Thanks for the tip, I’ll have a look into it!

If you think the "imperial" bias is bad in 40k, try fanasty. I play beastmen and as far as I can tell the only mention of them since the End Times is one gets raped by a Slaaneshi lord. My poor goats have always been shit on by everyone (choas included, they don't even get blessings usually) but at this point it's comical.
Poor Beastmen sadly often in Fantasy served to Chaos Warriors the same way Guardsmen often serve to Space marines in 40k fluff.
That being said, at least before End Times, they could boast some achievements, most chiefly Khazrak beating Boris and letting him live and the slaughter at Grimhagen.
End Times I felt gave Beastmen and Ogre Kingdoms both a very rough time, as both achieved practically nothing other than dying to make other factions look cool within it, and had almost no role in the plot at all (Orcs and Goblins are only above these two because in Archaon they were included in the main plot) and that did suck.
And in AoS, sadly, Brayherds are part of the ‘old’ armies and so unfortunately really only appear in Fluff to die to the ‘proprer’ armies. The same is true for Gitmobs (which is a pity to me since I loved Skarsnik and Night Goblins but Moonclan Gitmobs basically don’t even exist). I can only hope that, considering Brayherds were kept on unlike the poor Tomb Kings and Bretonnians, that this does eventually mean we’ll see ‘new’ Brayherds, in the same way the ‘Orruks’ got the Ironjawz.
One thing we can both do, luckily, is play with Khazrak (my prefered Legendary Lord) in Warhammer Total War 2. I find the Beastmen a very fun faction to play with in it.

very excited for the expanded gitmob models in aos, 10/10 lookin as usual and i like the lore about the doggo mastermind.
but also, it has led to some rather fascinating conversations on reddit where people seem deeply confused by the idea of the gloomspite gitz not in fact being a moonclan exclusive group thing but rather a collection of different greenskin groups much like GW's been doing with the orruk warclan books.
absolutely fascinating.

Since Gitmob Grots are probably squatted, what sort of faction would you see Snotlings emigrating to, if at all? I love those guys, smaller than a grot and dumber than a orruk.
Probably Moonclan, right? The problem is that Snotlings seem to be one of the closest things Orcs have to noncombatants. They’re usually just farm-slaves.
Maybe some updates for Snotling Pump Wagons?
In 40k at least I still think it’d be fun to get a big Gretching Revolution expansion for the Greenskins codex. Options to do everything from Grot Mobs led by Runtherdz to full gobbo-only groups lead by Gretchin Big Bosses. You could add in Snotling tanks and the like to them too. Gretchin haven’t gotten new models in some time I think.
