I have watched the first episode of Fate: the Winx Saga and I have too many opinions about it, so I’m gonna split them into several posts. This is the one dedicated to how they got the characters wrong. I’ll probably add the critiques relative to the other episodes as comments as I go on. Under the cut for length and spoilers. 

Once again, I must express my perplexity at how or why this is called Winx. This is, as most, vaguely inspired by Winx. To the point that if you just changed a couple more names (on top of all those changed already) you could easily market it as a different product. Like 50shades and twilight, you know?

Let’s start with Bloom. The actress is, I admit, good for the part, and they didn’t get her characterization particularly wrong, but it doesn’t get much better than this. Her wardrobe is 100% not on point. Her trademark colour is supposed to be blue, not red, and her flowery dress is… no. Just no. Who are you and what have you done to the real Bloom??? Also why did they feel the need to add this much drama between her and her parents. Mike and Vanessa were the epitome of the unproblematic parents and couple. Why did they do this to them. 

Also in WHICH FUCKING UNIVERSE is Bloom a Ravenclaw/Slytherin. When. Where. How. Who was drunk enough to write this. And how is being Slytherin an “explanation” for her lies???? Really?? In the year 2021 we’re still at the “Slytherins are evil” jokes?????

Stella is possibly my favorite casting choice, because she does have the look and the smirk for it, and her powers are one of the very few things that bring some much needed colors in the show, but her characterization is completely off. Stella is not the mean girl, she’s the popular girl. She’s beautiful and loves fashion and gossip and actually likes making friends. She can be harsh at times, but she’s not mean on purpose (generally); more often than not she just does not realize that she’s coming off as rude. And tbh as a princess and an only child her character absolutely fits her backstory. The real Stella would never be so mean to Bloom. The real Stella became friends with Bloom in 0.5 seconds and immediately started guiding her through the magical world. Who is this mean girl and why did she steal Stella’s ring (which, I’ll admit, I’m glad they added to the story). 

Terra is… well, Terra is cute, I’ll give her that. There’s something about her that weirds me out, idk if it’s the costume choices, but she constantly looks too much older than she’s supposed to be. I really wish I could love her, because she does have potential, but she’s just a whitewashed Flora and I can’t forgive that. She’s fine as her own character, but there was absolutely no need for the fairy world to be as fatphobic as ours.

Also is her dad supposed to be a stand-in for Palladium because I cannot forgive that. Palladium is a major hottie and we deserved to see him being gay for Avalon. 

Aisha is… off as well. Her clothes are not on point. Her characterization is ever-so-slightly off. There aren’t blatant errors, I just can’t see Aisha behaving this way. The one thing they got right is her insta-friendship with Musa. AishaxMusa rights y’all. 

Musa. Oh God Musa. I’m so mad because they got so many things right and so many things wrong with her. Her hair is on point. Her fashion choices are on point (the only case in the group). She has the right attitude, not rude but kind of wanting to be on her own at times. But she’s not Musa. She’s not Chinese. She has emotion powers for some reason???? Which are cool af but they’re not her powers. I’m literally so mad because she’s a lovely character both in the original version and here and it really wouldn’t have taken this much to make her right. 

Sky: my reaction to his first scene was “what a douchebag”. He got better later during the episode, but I really really do not like the fact that they made him date Stella and the fact that they were shown in sexual situations. They’re 16 and they’re characters from my childhood, I did not need to see this. 

Riven: imo, in the cartoon Riven was always meant to be a bad boy with a heart of gold, but they never could get that right. The live action could have been a good chance to fix that, but I’m afraid they won’t be going that way. He’s a douchebag but I’m still willing to change my mind. He’s cool enough but he doesn’t look that much different from Sky, and doesn’t give me enough “tormented bad boy” vibes upon seeing him. Also he shouldn’t be this friendly with Sky. 

Faragonda or however the fuck they’re calling her now: she gives me the right vibes for now, she’s perhaps too strict but maybe they just decided to fuse her personality with Girselda’s. I moderately trust her for now. 

Thomas Barrow Robert james-collier’s character: how, HOW did they manage to make him look that ugly in the first scene. This is a crime that must be punished. It’s homophobia against me specifically. 

Beatrix: no offense but who the fuck are you and why are the Trix not here.

The child with the dragon fire was raised around a lot of things about how cool and awesome their mom Grandmother and Daphne where and how badass their powers are and I think the kid would be....not egoistical, but obsessed with becoming the best because of how all the women behind them where amazing

When they official start going to Alfea is when the pressure sets in. Probably ends up becoming a friendly rival with....maybe Aisha's kid? Or Dia's kid. Just someone who their friends with, have been around most of their childhood, and are equally competitive with

Everyone in the school has their eyes on them, but they're used to this at this point. They've been outside before

They work really fucking hard on their magic (much like Stella did) and managed to get their basic manifest before their first year, which is odd

I feel like they'd also be the odd man out for being more masculine than their peers. In what form, idk, but they have Musa/Tecna fashion vibes ok?

Girselda takes great pains, as the new headmaster, to keep the new little headache (affectionate) safe

Of course they'd be the leader of the next gen Winx club, but they'd probably name their club after something else fairys are known for

Flora might be there every now and then as a guest teacher, which they love, bc aunty!!!! Flora!!!!

This child is a bit of a thrill seeker (it runs in the family, Marion and Daphne where uhhh....let's just say the kid gets this trait honestly)

They want to protect the magical dimension the same way their mom did, and is already talking about the Harmonix quest. All the teachers have a headache, and Bloom is trying to get them to calm tf down

They will not calm tf down

Very polarizing to their peers for being a fucking try hard lol

I feel like they'd inherent more of Samara and Daphne's personality which leads them to be both reckless as fuck and cunning to a fault. This child is smart and has the drive to do something really stupid. Frankly it's a horrible combination

The non magical one probably takes more after Bloom and Sky, being kind and protective to the point of getting themselves hurt for just about anyone. Which is a trait Bloom and Daphne inherited from Oritel

They're obviously a star student in RF, having Sky as their dad and help from uncle Helia? Yeah this kid knows what their doing

Didn't inherent the impulsive tendencies Sky and Bloom are known for tho

Did however inherent Bloom's ability not to get scare easily

The siblings break into the stables and take a dragon for a joy ride at least multiple times on Domino....and on Eraklyon

They both try to be princess and prince charming, like their parents seem to be (especially according to the media) but Dragon kid is impulsive, scheming, and reckless with a good loving heart; and their sibling tends to come off as a door mat....they're trying their best to live up to their parents legacy, not understanding that this legacy isn't perfect

With Bloom and co still around, neither of these kids will have to step up in the way that the Winx and the *inset Roxy's group name here* had to, so they learn that it's ok not to be pushing yourself 24/7. That it's not required to be special to be worth love, or to justify their existence

They're just dorky kids with a lot of stuff they think they need to live up to because that's all the media tells them

Dia is so fucking confused as to why some random girl dropped her guards after pretending to be a interviewer for a magazine, but Bloom is too busy trying to befriend her and sew the seeds of treason against Eraklyon to care

Of course the girls know about the switch, and they all want to let Brandon and Sky tell them in their own time. However most of them fucking suck at lying and Sky and Brandon are aware that they're aware and it's all very akaward. NFJAKSNS if Riven and Timmy noticed because the girls gave it away it would make everything so much worse. And by worse I mean funnier

Sky and Brandon just have to sit there and not acknowledge the fact that everyone figured them out so quickly ndkekejeke

Musa, post therapy and character development, looking at s1 Riven: Oh so why people always looked at me weird when I said I liked him

S1 Riven is just a ball of unpleasant feelings (mostly towards himself) that's trying to function in society and now that Musa no longer has blinders on due to her old way of thinking she can finally notice things she's never noticed before

Like after s1 Riven just kinda gets sad and curls in on himself bc learning your entire relationship is fake and the one person you thought actually liked you and wanted to help you was just using you can lead to a little depression

I feel like Musa would separate s1 and s2 Riven in her head, bc s1 Riven wasn't sad like that. But like now she's looking at him and she's starting to notice how he doesn't really have friends because he pushes people away bc he's scared but also deeply craves a genuine connection but also—Riven has always been a ball of issues is what I'm saying (that's how Darcy was able to get into his head so easy by using his own thoughts against him) and Musa is just noticing that

Stella definitely has some training with her sceptre, you are 2000% correct that Riven has definitely taught Musa how to correctly punch someone, and Bloom....Bloom is just feral

Tbh I think when they go on their mission to save the pixies Bloom, Stella, and Aisha would also try to save the real Avalon and get the Fake Avalon kicked out of the school by showing up with real Avalon. Faragona gets the fake Avalon who's using a glamor kicked out and Darkar is VERY grumpy that his replace the teacher and use dark powers to infect Bloom plan was foiled

But oh yeah definitely they're all desperately wanting to murder fake! Avalon as soon as they seen him, but can't bc they know no one will believe them so they just bide their time and grind their teeth until they can get the shape shifting monster out of their school. A lot of petty shit happens to him

Ok so the obvious way this would go down is that the Winx, at the end of season 4, wake up back at the start of the show

Bloom is really confused as to why Mike and Vanessa bought her the same bike?? And then Stella falls in, in her intro outfit, and they're like "Wait. What day is it?" And they both realize they've gone back in time

Aisha, waking up in her old bed room to her nanny lecturing her about all the rules about sleeping and waking up shes not following: OH FUCK NO

Aisha, calling Stella after she jumped out of the window: Pick me up

Stella: I'll pass off Aisha as my friend, and I'll just tell Griselda that I found a fairy on earth. What the fuck is she going to do? Let the last earth fairy flounder

Bloom: oh my god are we just gonna have to let Faragona lie to us

Aisha, vibrating in her seat: I get to be included on the early stuff

Tecna, Flora and Musa are already in the dorm room like GUYS WHAT THE FUCK

and the princess trio is like WE KNOW

Tecna: does this mean we have the upper hand over the Trix???

Musa: oh god, pre-therepy Riven

Flora: we have to re take all our classes

Stella: We! Are! In! Hell!

I like to imagine they're still in their magic winx form just so they can bitch about it bdnsns and complain

The Trix are technically stronger than them because the Winx are in their weakest form, but the Winx have years of experience fighting them so it's weirdly even

Stormy: something fuck-y is going on with thes girls

Darcy: Fine

Later, when Darcy is trying to sneak into their dorm

Musa: BEEP BEEP BITCH, I CAN HEAR YOU

Anyways it's just the girls being unhinged during s1

The Trix probably still manage to steal Bloom's power and they're all very grumpy about it

And then they try to warn everyone during s2 and NO ONE LISTENS, Rip

Griffin would be so dumbstuck during twinning witches bc they act like a well oiled machine

There's not much they can do about Valtor, they just have to suffer though season 3

Stella, grabbing Chimera: Never talk to me or my little sister ever again

Aisha is grinding her teeth at the state of Andros but can't do much, but she does grab Nabu early on into the season

Nabu is all like ⁄(⁄ ⁄•⁄-⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄ bc the coolest fairy he's ever met is suddenly hitting on him and what deity's favor did he happen to garner

Stella doesn't get turned into a monster at her princess ball by Cassandra, anything that ruins my sister au will be changed no exceptions, bc Stella was expecting it

Enchantix is gained different but still gained bc these girls don't know what self preservation is

Fighting Valtor is easier because they know what he's gonna do next, but still hard bc Valtor

But since they already know about the water stars and aren't gonna believe Valtor's bullshit, after they all get Enchantix they nearly murder him and he gets away in his true form gravely injured in panic mode

S4 is so easy however bc they just grab Roxy, get the Believix powers, don't free the earth faries until after they've kicked the wizards back to where they belong and then deal with the earth faries

Nabu is closely guarded at this time, he is very confused, but appreciates that every one seems to care about him so much

And then what ever caused the loop doesn't happen again and everything is a-ok dksndjsjd

I'm also thinking about Riven getting to naturally go though a redemption arc with out Darcy setting him back and pushing him forward

Everyone keeps mixing up Sky and Brandon's names, and Brandon knows they know but doesn't know how

Bloom meets up with Diaspro instead of fighting her, and that plot point gets so much weirder

Bloom: btw I'm gonna free you from your abusive parents

Diaspro: um?????

They'd be so happy when they get Enchantix back, bc they'd feel so squished in magic Winx and Charmix

During the first movie when Riven starts acting weird, Aisha just puts him in a bubble bc Musa will not be getting stabbed again

They speed run that too jngkwkekem
