Geneuary Day Five: Mermaid/Magical

Happy Day Five of Geneuary!! I can’t believe we’re halfway done already!! I already shared the sketch of this earlier, while I was still sick, but now I get to show off the finished piece!! I decided to do a painterly style for this piece like the last one, except this time I used a watercolor brush. You can tell how crazy I went with the colors, pffffft.

This idea came about because I like to think Gene would’ve loved dressing up as a mermaid when he was younger. It always gave him such gender euphoria ☺️ And one of his favorite movies growing up was definitely Disney’s The Little Mermaid. And he definitely bonded over Rudy with this and they sang Part of Your World together (@ratguy-nico came up with that particular headcanon because of Rudy’s love of his stuffed flounder, Pancake!!)

this took me so long to answer anon i’m so sorry!! technically there’s a mild visual on the tumblr post for the fic but i am always down to elaborate!! i spend . a lot of money and time on curl products which means lots of time looking at curl type charts (girl who still can’t tell what her curl type is. why is every chart completely different. i have seen the same photo of zendaya used as an example for like three different curl types.)

ANYWAYSSSS. i left it a little vague in the series bc everyone has their own image and i didn’t want to fuck w that so please know whatever you were imagining ? so real . and frankly what i was imagining was more the cumulative of my hair experience (this series is an expression of frustration and annoying happenings while hooking u— [i am pulled off stage via vaudeville hook]) than any suuuper consistent length or pattern. i didn’t have a photo/visual in mind but if i were to specify… (ramblings of a mad man under the cut)

in what’s currently out at least (hehe) the length is a little past shoulder length. on this chart like a . 3a/3b situation. i think. i find this kind of chart slightly more helpful than when they toss random celebrities on a grid but honestly not that much more lol

think big (as in wide diameter) ringlets that she messes with/pulls apart/ruffles to get big messy volume. to me that feels like the equivalent of the kind of tussled messy curls he’s got going on irl? these pics of julia roberts are like. lando immediately post-race, to me, if i had to pick specific hair imagery (not face imagery or anything. please ignore that that is julia roberts looking very nice in a suit)

in general julia roberts has the range necessary for lando-hair expression tbh. here’s the vibe hair texture wise (though not style which is very era specific lol just the rich shiny soft looking curls at the bottom) for her like everyday/media day/paddock fit kind of deal:

in other news that may become a fic i think she totally nearly cut her own bangs immediately after hungary but held on by a thread (cough. was stuck in airport until the immediate urge passed) to get it done professionally over break so no one can really accuse her of having a menty b. not that that stops a lot of people. she does show up to zandvoort with wispy curly bangs a la below (ignore that now im just pulling already saved (FROM EIGHT MONTHS AGO) photos from my hair inspo folder. a girl’s gotta have dreams) and there’s some really funny headlines w puns abt bangs you know how it is. this might turn into a like 1.5k fic, we’ll see

My 2024 wish is for the triplets and Alahna to get back together or at least maybe patch things up. Ik we don’t know what actually happened behind the scenes but god do I miss her and them together 😭 It also just hurts my heart knowing they were so so close and now they’re just like, not.. ykwim? 😭 it’s like reminding me of people I used to be super close with but now I’m not and it’s like ugh I can feel her pain but I can not imagine what it must’ve been like for her on that level and it honestly makes me wanna sob 😭😭😭 praying they find their way back to each other some time in life (and if not then I still truly wish so much happiness for all of them 🫶)

I haven’t read the books in forever so canon escapes me but. The only reason I care about r’s plot with his kid and wife Is that it shows his personality, he’s a coward, bad at communication etc. etc. like Yeah he is (affectionately) so he would do that. That’s its only purpose, otherwise I’m like well Doesn’t Exist because the love of his life is actually over there (pointing at S, of course)

anyway the point of this is whenever you say R doesn’t care about that kid (his or hjp) I’m like, you’re so right, ridi, so true…

no exactly! and i think that’s pretty fun. he is for sure a coward + bad at communicating and those are character flaws that i think he would be quite boring without…just as i think the version of s that people (often people who get sooo angry at r and every terrible thing he’s done) like to present where he is stripped of all flaws and responsibility and wrongdoing is also! extremely boring! but like. all the stuff around the kid (either kid) that people like to bang on about is just. im never going to care about that kid im sorry so in turn i do not care about any perceived wrongdoing by anyone against that kid i just don’t. like im just not interested. he doesn’t care and neither do i. hence why i am not an apologist for him…why would i apologise when i don’t believe what he did was wrong ♥️
