For tama she was a bit different i guess. When she first appeared it was just her head, and her personality was a bit different than the current one. I didnt like her character at first but after the episode where she went on a ‘date’ with gin, she became one of my faves instantly because of the way she cares for other machines and understands them was really cute and sweet. Things i like about her:

- FENNY'S MONJAAAAA

- Her personality which is just like a kid who is still learning about the world

- Very kind. I mean, there are some times when shes a lil sarcastic but ehh everyone is like that in gntm

- Likes to help people and machines and doesnt give anyone trouble, instead she tries to help them

- Respects people even if theyre strangers

- Whenever she talks with a machine its just too cute to watchh♥

If Kagura were to be in an idol band, I think she’ll be in something close to Mamamoo with other Gintagirls. Strong, quirky and talent.

As I witness so far, Kamui being madly loved as well as Takasugi is bullshit and so is the “fact” Kamui is one of the “main” antagonists. Kamui is usually treated like a secondary nonsense character by many lately and gets lots of hate due to misunderstanding as such, while Takasugi being stereotypically the main villain besides Utsuro is stealing all the popularity to himself.

I mean lately sure, since Kamui stopped being an antagonist (probably, at least I assume he’ll just be an ally in the final arc), I guess I should’ve noted that. But from his introduction till Rakuyo he was one of those characters you were supposed to be on the lookout for. Him making Gintoki his target changed the game, because whereas Takasugi always seemed like he’d be Gintoki’s equal we now had an antagonist who was clearly much stronger than Gintoki lurking in the shadows (and it was a correct assumption, in the end Gintoki was never able to beat him in the Rakuyo fight). And then he teamed up with Sugi and the threat grew even bigger.  Prior to the introduction of Utsuro I considered Kamui and Takasugi the main antagonists, and since that was the status quo for the majority of Gintama’s run of course they built up a lot of expectations and hype, and hence popularity and merch.  While they didn’t get that much focus till the recent big arcs I think their popularity is justified, their characters are closely tied to main characters like Gintoki and Kagura so you know the backstory will be meaningful, and they both have entertaining personalities for bad guys, especially Kamui, he’s a lot of fun to watch. And being a villain just automatically generates interest cause you know the character will make a big impact eventually, it’s just a matter of when, and every time we’d get a glimpse of them (especially Takasugi, at the end of arcs like Courtesan of a Nation and Shinigami), you’d feel that excitement, that “the time is nearing”. So yeah, I’m not saying other characters deserve less merch and love than them, but at the same time I totally understand WHY they’re so popular. I don’t think Utsuro will ever reach their level as far as an exciting villain goes, even if many were disappointed in Kamui at Rakuyo.

Kyuuchan next. When she first appeared, i honestly knew she was a girl (by her voice) but kinda skeptical at first because she keep saying she wanna marry otae and everyone used he/him pronouce when they talked about her. First impression of her was that she’s cool and strong, although i dont like how she kinda forced otae to marry her. Then she joined the kabukichou group and appeared often which i dont really mind, the more the merrier. With her joining, now theres 2 people who likes otae and well, im glad she didnt stalk otae just like what kondo is doing \o/ (kyubei-1 kondo-0). Also i dont know why zura keep saying that her character overlaps his because i dont see the similarity?? at all??? Am i missing something? But i think zura is more of an idiot than her lol. Some things i like about her:

-She’s voiced by rukia’s seiyuu and i love it so much

-Her hairstyle change from the first appearance to now (there’s a difference to her fringe)

- She’s really adorable when she dressed up like a girl (i love her flower eyepatch)

-She can actually fight one on one with toshi so definitely she’s a very skilled samurai

-Even when otae rejects her, she didnt stop meeting her and still loves her

Sacchan’s turn. Before watching gntm i first saw her in op 15 and another op i forgot which one. In the ops she is seen jumping on buildings alone like a badass so i thought she was an assassin/lonewolf/cold type of character or smth lol. When i started the show, boii it was so different. I really didnt expect her character to be like that lmaoo and someone falling in love with gin? Never would have seen that coming. But yeah at first i find her really annoying and weird, i only started liking her after the scandal arc lol because she’s really hilarious in that arc. Also SA arc really made me like her even more. Some things about her that i like:

- Not gonna lie she’s really pretty (especially in ponytail)

- I like her voice, its really unique and fits her character very well

- Despite hurting zenzou number of times, she does respect him a lot

- She misunderstands situation most of the time till it became a k-drama lolol

- When she’s focused on her job, she’s really serious till her gin radar couldnt even detect him

Next is tsukuyoooo. Before watching gntm any further i watched some of the ops on youtube and saw tsukky in op 13 and was like woahh she’s so elegant lol. At first i thought she owned a shop just like otose since she posed outside of hinowa’s house/shop in the op so i immediately thought she was otose’s friend/rival lmaoo. Anyways, when she first appeared in the yoshiwara arc, i was shocked to see her cut off someone’s hand and attacking seita. I really thought she was a villain in this arc. Turns out she was on the good side all along by helping the squad escape from yoshiwara. Also some fave things about her :

-Her character design is really unique especially her hairstyle

-She is able to fight abuto(a yato) for a while, only using kunai

-She’s really kind, like REALLY

(mostly when gin is having trouble to hide his embarrassment lol)

-She’s the only type of tsundere that i like, not the annoying baka baka then hitting the guys kind of tsunderes.

-Lastly, its because i relate to her a lot. Like how she never tell her problems to others, or how she never asked for help and didnt care much about popularity polls or any competition

Back when i thought matako was just an eye candy character with her revealing-ish outfit but what i didnt expect was that she turns out to be a tomboy who had a (very obvious) crush on her commander lol. I remember in one of the ep when she suddenly hugs sugi i was confused and amazed that he even allowed anyone to touch, let alone hug him lmao (technically it was takechi but still, even matako was convinced it was sugi so she probably hugged him before and he was fine with it). Anyways, i never understood why her outfit is pink while in the manga her outfit was red, which is logical since she’s named the red bullet for a reason lol. Also she actually became one of my fave characters even though she had the least screentime out of the other main girls. Probably because she has an interesting personality (it’s almost the same as mine tbh which is really scary hahaha)

Some things i like about her:

-Guns as her weapons even though its the era of samurais, never waste time on killing people ;)

-Her side ponytail (really cute) which i havent seen in a while in other anime (i dont watch much so dont blame me haha)

-The way she fangirls over sugi which is tbh, better that how sacchan is towards gin (matako isnt clingy or desperate for love, in my view its more of a very high level of respect and idolising him)

-The fact that she acts like a kid when someone ticks her off (when kagura + gin made fun of her name//when takechi dressed up as sugi she got really mad then start shooting without thinking)

-She fought kagura in a gun battle and won the first round (cant blame her on losing the second time since kagura is a freaking yato which somehow could stop bullets mid-air and she didnt even know anything about the yatos)

-Never forget she also had a gross phlegm battle with kagura which i find it rare for girls to be doing gross things like that, props to sorachi for doing so lolol

Now for otae. I didnt care about her in the first few episodes since she wasnt that interesting to me until the infant arc where sacchan thought otae had a child with gin lolol then i started to ship gin x otae for a while. In further episodes she became quite brutal and violent (for the gags) but i kinda didnt like it since she is mostly trying to show off her strength to others (i dont blame her for punching kondo sometimes, but there are times where kondo tried to be nice to her but she still torture him in return lol). In the FS and SS arc, she had a great development so i started to like her even more and i couldnt be happier for it. Some things i like about her:

- Like everyone else, her design. Even though its simple i still find it really pretty

-She’s only 18 but she’s really matured (i honestly thought she was 20+) and she’s already working while taking care of her brother, due to not having any parents anymore

-She’s REALLY strong idk why lmao it makes me wonder if she’s secretly a yato

-Her insults are amazing and sarcastic, i aspire to be as good as her with insults.

-She’s also a strategist lol (the epiosde where they had a blind date but she invited all the ugly girls so that she can be the prettiest) mad respect for her hahahaha

-When there are times where she and gin are like the parents of yorozuya, that really is heartwarming

Gintagirls are NEVER featured on any kind of merch lol only Kagura... i guess that's understandable since Gintama's main target are teenage girls and they go nuts over Kamui, Bakasugi and the like, but still that makes me salty as fuck, i'd do anything to have stuff featuring Mutsu, Tae, Ayame or Tama :(

Gintama’s main target are teenage BOYS xD But I guess that makes no difference, both boys and girls go nuts for Kamui and Takasugi, main villains tend to be popular. But yeah, I’d love to see them featured more as well. Some guys like Sakamoto and Zenzo seem to not get featured that much either. The Yorozuya, Shinsengumi and Zura are the most common characters in the show so it makes sense that same would go for merch, and again being main antagonists give Sugi and Kamui VIP access (like how they appear in every opening despite almost never appearing lolol).
