lose lose game (m) — ginoza n.
ginoza finds himself caught between hell and a hard place when he’s forced to bring in a latent criminal who happens to be the only person he has ever loved in his life
warnings: unprotected sex, soft!ginoza, slight yan!gino, reader is coded to be feminine, college crushes, mild angst, gino is traumatized lmao, ooc!gino, restraints, gags, mentions of cheating, kinda dubcon if you squint, weapons, canon typical violence, enforcer!gino x fem!reader, unedited, unbeta-ed oops
dawn says: debuting my first ever pp fic hiii look im gonna be honest, i only watched 3 eps and half of the movie but i would let this man do unspeakably unholy things to me
Ginoza is a hard head.
As much as his superiors and colleagues would vouch for the opposite, you’ve known him since you were a girl and he was a boy.
He hated losing, and more than that, he hated being proved that he was wrong.
So, when the stats reflect past his murky dark eyes and encroaches the territory of his disbelieving thoughts, he has to fight back the urge to hurl.
120 Crime Coefficient.
The coffee he ingested this morning as his only meal churns heavily in his stomach.
The smiling face and rosy lips dug through his thoughts, rendering them a repeat of no, no, not her, not her. Fear clawed through his chest and he was once again 8 years old, fearing the stomping of boots; the cracking thuds of bodies against the drywall.
Watching mutely in horror—in helplessness—as his father was dragged away by men in suits, his entire bloodline branded as an impending danger to society.
Akane’s voice is soft, cutting through the fog of his whirlwind thoughts. “You know what happens next, right?”
Ginoza’s nostrils flare. Another thing he absolutely detested was someone telling him what to do when he already had half a mind set on it.
For the first time since becoming her subordinate, Ginoza flashes Akane a veiled look of distrust. She misinterpreted it as his reluctant acceptance.
“Good. Bring her back, Gino-chan, then we can talk about your reinstatement as an Inspector.”
Dangling his old post right in front of him like a bone to the dogs he once swore to hate, nothing could prepare Ginoza for the flash of pure hatred coursing through him like a lightning strike.
But, he muffles the resentment; sends Akane a curt nod.
“I’ll be back,” is what he promised.
With her out of the system, is what he didn’t say out loud.
Shuttering light flitted across your face, the train tracks above passing in mechanical whirs, waking you from a fitful sleep.
The dregs of fatigue still clung to your eyelashes, rendering you in a drowsy stupor that you didn’t notice a shadow moving across your boxed-in room. It was the cheapest unit you could find on your runaway budget; after a street scanner had spotted you, word soon escalated to your job management and you had discovered your things packaged in boxes right outside your office door—effectively rendering you jobless and homeless in one go.
There was nothing you could do but run for the streets, hiding in the shadows until someone killed you or you were arrested.
Sitting up, you stifled a yawn.
Someone cleared his throat.
Eyes shooting wide open, you quickly leapt from the bed, hitting the lights to illuminate the barrel of a Dominator staring right at your face.
The man behind it was quiet as a whisper, his hard eyes trailed right on your shell-shocked expression.
“Don’t resist.”
You swallowed hard, imploring him with a wide gaze. “Please… I did nothing.”
He stepped closer into the light, and your chest squeezed in recognition. “Nobuchika?”
Ginoza looked like he had bit down on a handful of nails; mouth twisted into a grimace, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead.
After years of having not seen each other since college, Ginoza looked different.
Taller. Lethal. The corners of his lips were downturned—tired.
You felt more than noticed the heavy blanket of exhaustion eclipsing his broad shoulders. Something stirred deep in you—a kindred spirit reaching out towards his own.
“Don’t make this anymore difficult for me.”
Gulping, you balled your fists. “So, you’re gonna arrest me? Let them torture me?”
Those green eyes with heavy bags underneath them darkened under your weak, fluorescent light. “No. But, if you put up resistance, I’d be forced to do something I don’t want to, as well.”
A shaky exhale of a breath. And then, you turned on your heel to run.
Ginoza caught you in a flash, his strong arms vining around your smaller frame.
“Let me go!” you screamed, kicking his shin, clawing at his arms. Everything in the universe was transpiring against your escape when he clamped a hand around your mouth.
Going up against an apex predator was foolishness to the highest heavens, especially when said hunter already had restraints prepared.
Your arms were bound behind your back, a lead gag slotted in between your teeth. Ginoza was efficient in subduing you without the need for his Dominator; a feat of pure shame considering how you couldn’t even put up a good fight.
He hauled you towards a kitchen chair, unceremoniously dumping you onto the hard bench. Fastening another knot to the wooden arms, he had you captured and restrained; your watery eyes lifted towards him to beseech for mercy.
The boy you knew before—the one who brought teachers homemade cards on their birthdays—was a far cry from the cutthroat man staining your periphery.
As if he could read your mind, Ginoza got down onto one knee, right in front of you. His expression was unreadable, Dominator whirring on the ground beside him.
You eyed the weapon with unconcealed fear, and a beat of terror flitted in between both of your tense figures.
Green eyes the colour of murky, contaminated pools fixed onto the tears escaping down your cheeks. He thumbed them away, careful to not touch your parted lips.
“I’m sorry,” was all he could say. You stared at him in abject horror—at this man who was condemning you to a life of isolation. “But, I have to bring you in. Personal… feelings… aside.”
Feelings?
You struggled to fix your watery eyes onto him. In the background, your Psycho Pass beeped, reminding the both of you of the stats which was damning evidence of your deteriorating psyche.
“What happened?”
Nobuchika spoke softly, as if someone could overhear. He was probably right to be this hesitant; Sibyl’s eyes and ears were never far from latent evil, as the saying once went.
You clamped your gaze down to your knees, the gape in your chest throbbing. More hot tears squeezed past your closed eyes and you gasped, heaving and crying in front of a friend you hadn’t seen for years.
Memories of late nights kombini runs, leaking ink stains on paper and hot ramen noodles filtered in your mind. There was once a life where you had all the potential to be great; to grow and change society. Unjaded and unfettered, you had hoped for your country’s best, only to see it all crashing down in one fell swoop.
Gently, he tugged the gag out of your mouth, letting the spit-slicked bit roll down your chin.
“Hey. I’m speaking to you.”
Eyes flashing, you regarded him with frosty distaste.
“You’re not supposed to speak to someone who's latent,” you seethed. “Or, have you forgotten your code, Enforcer.”
The badge on his chest burned.
By now, an Inspector should be in his ear, telling him to unanimously pull the trigger and paralyse you. But, Ginoza swatted those thoughts away, focused on extracting the reason why your Hue was murky and your Psycho Pass stats were affected.
“I can help you.”
Akane would tear him a new one. His position would get even more muddier; a dog who could not kill off his prey. They would tighten his leash, get eyes on him everywhere he went. He wouldn’t even be allowed to leave his apartment if they could help it.
Fate or stupidity kept him frozen in one spot, those sharp eyes drinking in your waning resolve.
You sniffed, hanging your head forward. Finally letting your dense truth roll off your stubborn tongue.
“My ex-boyfriend cheated on me and syphoned all of my money away and I… I want to kill that motherfucker.”
Your sobs filled the room. Ginoza discreetly clicked off his audio, turning his body cam’s eye to the ground.
Something bloomed in his chest, whether from familiarity or pity, he could not pick it apart. Ever since he saw your name in the system, he was a haunted man, trying and failing to fight this war between duty and memory—the same conflict he carried for 20 over years pouring like rancid waves to liquify his strong sense of righteousness.
Good and bad—they wavered in the face of his longtime college crush.
Ginoza always thought he would spend his entire life alone when you left the prefecture and he never got to tell you his real feelings. He was loyal like that; a pandering dog waiting for the one true owner of his heart to come back.
And here you were, a mirage shimmering right in front of him. Playing right into his hands.
Those scarred knuckles caressed your cheek, catching you off guard with his tender afflictions.
The dark locks framing his face from his loosening man bun tickled your chin when he leaned forward. Soft as down, his lips met yours, swallowing your sudden gasp of surprise.
Ginoza drank you in; a man hungry for a taste of life after being denied his human tendencies for years on end. Funny how his dedication to the Bureau could come undone because of one single woman—because of you.
Forgetting and re-remembering the aching beat of his heart; Ginoza was gentle when he cupped your face in those large palms of his, careful to lick across the seam of your lips—tasting all of you in.
Your soft moans caressed the upper palate of his hot mouth, and he knows the same feelings he harboured towards you were reciprocated.
They ignited his desires, fueled his dangerous thoughts and occupations on what he needed to do next.
There was no way he was going to let this rush of exhilaration let him go. Since the beginning of his consciousness, his thoughts were moulded by the system, forged by the system and executed by the people who upheld the very system which had forced him to go numb.
You were the one thing to bring colour back to his dull senses—it all started to make sense why he had held out this long; played by the system’s rules if it meant he could get you in the end.
“Nobuchika,” you whispered once he broke off the kiss, the sweetest exhilaration rushing through him from the sound of his name coming from you.
“I’ll protect you,” unprompted, his promise was thorough and sure. “Anything that happens to you… I won’t let them touch you.”
The tinge of possessiveness marked its way as tears of gratitude down your face. You nodded and peeled your brilliant gaze onto him.
Spurred on by the pure trust you had in him, Ginoza removed your binds, helping you stand up. You crashed into his arms, and he held you there, cheek squished right to your hair.
“I never thought you had feelings for me,” he murmured. “Seems like a dream.”
Your watery chuckle rebounded back into his ringing ears. “You were always so distant.” As you spoke, you tugged on the lapels of his suit, smoothing your hands all over his broad pecs. “You kinda scared me, if I’m being honest.”
In reciprocation, he shrugged the jacket off, eyeing you hungrily down the line of his defined nose.
“I did?”
You hum. Reaching for the buttons of his crisp, white shirt, you slowly tugged it off. “But, I always thought you were brilliant, Gino—”
“Nobuchika,” he almost panted when he felt your touch sear onto his scarred chest. “Call me by my name.”
You gazed up at him past your lashes, nodding. “Nobuchika. I love your name.”
Without a word of complaint, he let you crowd him onto your bed, the old springs squeaking in resistance towards the fall of his larger body. Straddling his lap, your burning eyes set his mind ablaze—he suddenly felt too dizzy, like all the air in the room had been sucked up.
Ginoza skimmed his prosthetic hand down your thigh, feeling the taut sinew and muscles which dimpled underneath his mechanical fingers.
Soft. You were so, so soft for him.
He perched up on his elbows, mouth frantically finding yours. You let him bruise kisses onto your parted lips, down your jaw and across your collarbone and neck.
Ginoza slotted his hands onto your hips, holding you like a man making sure his treasure was secure.
He let you tug off his pants, shrug off your clothes to leave you glowing and fully naked in the half-light.
Low and static-like, in the background, he thought he heard someone calling his name over the comm.
Common sense and the call of his superiors were drowned out the second you sank down on his dripping cock. Ginoza’s spine unfurled like a precious book, his moan sweetened with the taste of surrender. You paced yourself with hands locked around his shoulders, muffling your moans into his neck.
The sullied Enforcer lets you rut yourself on his cock, using him to get yourself off as he patiently plastered sloppy kisses down your throat and jaw.
Your eyes rolled back in the dim light, whites exposing for a glimmering second to set off the wild, unprecedented racing of his heart.
Ginoza supposed he has never felt such pride before in his life when he feels your pussy shuddering around his cock; an honest love letter to his unwavering passion at fucking into you until a rush of slick stains his thighs.
You had come, gasping out his name and stabbing your nails right into his skin.
He feels the fever pitch breaking, tightens his core and gives one last snap of his hips upward.
Not caring that he had fucked you raw or that you were technically an enemy under his lawful consideration, Ginoza allowed himself to pour every drop of his desire right into your willing body.
Your syrupy mewls lusciously caressed his hot ears, and the world goes black for one second as he tries to catch his breath. Weaving in and out of consciousness, Ginoza felt you standing, and his instinct told him you were just going to the bathroom to clean up.
Sleep weighed him down, insistent and caring—nurturing him in her motherly arms.
Ginoza slept like he had never done before since the day he became an Enforcer; cradled in threadbare blankets and the memory of your body pressed up to his.
Till this moment, he swore he had felt you worm your way back into his arms, and even the brief, ghosting of your lips on his forehead.
But, when he opened his eyes, he noticed that the room was empty.
A chirping, mechanical voice told him it was currently three in the morning; a full two hours since he had first arrived at your decrepit home.
Your clothes were missing, bag gone.
Ginoza jumped to his feet, scrambling to put his clothes back on; cursing right under his breath.
His enforcement comm buzzed, and he felt Akane’s frustration before he answered the call. If Kogami were here, he would’ve laughed at his lapse of judgement—how easily good pussy could knock him out.
“She’s gone,” Akane said, flat and emotionless. “I expect a full report on how you had let her go, Ginoza.”
Before he could open his mouth and apologise—defend himself from her rightful flurry of disapproval, his Dominator whirled up.
And Ginoza couldn’t believe his ears. The mechanical clicks almost didn’t set in for him—left him mute and rooted to the spot from the magnitude of what he had just done.
How drastically he had fucked up and your cleverly veiled deceit which stunned him right to the core.

My honest yet unbiased review of Psycho Pass Providence 🤗
«Note: Don't take this post personally as it doesn't intend to ship-wreck the thoughts of most fans»
As the snippets of Psycho Pass Providence are recently become available in almost everywhere, I suppose the long wait is over and I can finally post my own review of the PPP movie. I've been posting my own comments here and there because of the "imbalanced" & very biased review of most Japanese fans on Twitter. 😥
But am so glad the snippets aswell as the PPP movie itself are now made available so every one can learn the facts of the movie.
But before I begin let's discuss PPP in general.
OVERALL:
The movie is great 👍🏻 No doubt. The animation scenes are jam-packed. The theme and the overall plot is a HUGE PLUS. Because they tried to showcase the metaphorical, allegorical and philosophical aspect of the Psycho Pass anime season 1 had always been known for. So this film is a total of 90%.
Why? Coz although it connects the plot between Season 3 and First Inspector; and it provides an official background for our beloved Arata and Kei, it only adds to the many struggles of our characters against the Sybil System. They introduced the Divider and Mentalist abilities, the dirty works of MoFA that conceived the formation of the Peacbreakers. It seems like they're trying to expand the story of Psycho pass to provide a foothold for any possible seasons to come. But it fails to show us any glimpse of Sybil's eventual defeat. 😶
KOUAKA/SHINKANE
When I said the Japanese-natives are imbalanced and unreasonably biased with their Tweets, I mean it. And I am of Japanese descent thru my grandma, so I have the audacity 🤭.
When some tweet says, "Akane took the cigarette from Kou's lips and Kou leans forward as if trying to kiss Akane" I cringed. Because girl, that is partially true. But where's the "almost kissing"part?
It's obvious that Kou only adjusted his position to sit down and speak to Akane. So where's the "he's trying to kiss her"? 😆
I love Shinkane, in their most subtle yet caring nature towards one another. But I don't want to make believe. It's better to tell the facts than to 誰かを笑顔にするために嘘をつくこと. 😮💨
Honestly, 皆さん, どうして?
The only Shinkane moment for me is when he jumps to Akane covering her from the explosion 💥
Here we see, Kogami is simply checking her up if she's fine. Nothing fancy, but that's enough to make me giggle. 🙂
When Kou unlocked the cuff from Akane's left hand, as if motioning her to attach that on his left hand, is a chef-kiss moment to me👌🏻 that also includes the bridal carry 😉.
But some fans make noise in Twitter saying "Kogami hugs Akane and rests her closely to his chest near his heart".
I mean, girl, everyone who saw that scene knows exactly that it is not that romantic but hey it's enough to make our hearts pound. But don't over-hype the scene will yah?
The beauty of Shinkane lies in their subtle interaction. Not in an overly done romantic PDA.
THE COINCIDENCE:
There's an obvious theme the writers are portraying in this movie. Most fans have pointed it out but they try to deny it themselves. 😶
° Kogami calling Frederica on her first name without honorifics (i.e -san, -sama, -chan).
° Kogami and Frederica's same Sherpa coat as some could point out.
° Kogami and Frederica standing side by side in most of the scenes they're in.
° Kogami when he talks to Akane on the phone when he gives her the word "...Even if you tell me not to, I'll go".
Frederica is looking sideways.
Kogami when talking to Gino in a boat, when the latter asked him why he comes back, to which he replied there are things he must protect.
Frederica is looking sideways.
When a guy friend is talking to us and his girlfriend is around, I noticed his girlfriend does the same too. So idk. 😅
° Kogami defending Frederica in front of Akane. We all know that. It's pretty much straightforward, he's not only defending his new boss.
° Kogami receives the call from Akane when he's at a dark room with Frederica. When he says I will go. Then, the next scene we saw them standing side by side with the same jacket on when Akane deploys the dominator to them.
I think Akane noticed that too 😮💨
° Kogami never leaves his gun (the one he used to kill Makishima given to him by Masaoka). But it was with Frederica. And when Gino shouts at Kou, "Protect Tsunemori!" She gave the pistol to him.
° Lastly, the room where Saiga-sensei and Kogami shared a drink implied that it is the MoFA assigned quarters to Kogami. And the holographic painting where Kogami is standing is a painting of Tower of London. And we all know Frederica is half-british. 😉
° There was a publication which implies that Kogami and Frederica share the same quarters. (I didn't say bedroom. So please don't give me a violent reaction 🥲).
Again, this is not to ship-wreck. But many Japanese fans literally skipped this information because those are quite suggestive as to how close Kogami and Frederica is in this movie.
If you saw the film, it's up to you to decide.
REMARKS:
As I said, the beauty of Shinkane lies in their subtle interactions not by overly-defined public display of affection.
But in this film, the writers are clearly making a statement. To impose their original idea that Kogami and Akane are not meant to be together. Even the Seiyuus say they can ship Ginoza and Akane but they can't with Kogami. And they even tried to be extra careful when delivering the script to avoid any misconception of them having a romantic scene together.
At first I was deeply hurt. Because I've been shipping them like forever. But now I saw Shinkane in a new perspective. I won't try to force them together just because I feel like it.
But I will enjoy any significant scene of them being simply together and the whole Psycho Pass anime franchise as it is the way the writers portray them. Yet in my heart, Shinkane will always be an item. ❤️
Our ship may not sail the way we expect it to be (for 10 straight years) but the bond we have as a Shinkane Community will remain. The fanarts, the fanfics, the forum discussions and sweet exchanges etc...
There's no fandom as dedicated as Shinkane/KoAka fans. #thePowerOfFandom❣️
THE FOURTH SEASON:
Everyone at this point is screaming when is the Season 4 coming? We need a closure! 😱
Same here, I wish the Season 4 will come out soon. If the original Division 1 will take on the backseat to give way to new generation of characters (i.e Arata and Kei), why not atleast give them a good closure? They all deserve to be happy!
Yayoi x Shion have their "proper" ending at the First Inspector. But what about the others? 🤔
Also Shizuka Homura. I am very much intrigued by this man. He knows Akane long before she joins the PSB. They have the same alma-mater though years apart ofcourse. And what will he put to the table? Is he a friend or a foe?
Will there be a new Makishima to Kogami? Or a Makishima to Akane?
Most importantly, when will the Sybil System end? It's been the series' primary antagonist but after all these 10 (thousand) years, when will it come to an end? To provide another good plot to Psycho Pass verse and to create more narrative in the future.
⟨I've been writing this review while walking and didn't realize how hard was it 🤣⟩

I want see Akane's inner thoughts emotionaly. Would be an imitate and gentle feeling? For example we know that she most likely stopped burning cigarettes after Kougmi's return.
One, because I think she would be embarrassed if he caught her doing that in the providence mission. Just like when Gino find out in S2. And I believe she was silently hoping Ko wouldn't ask when she hand him some spinel in SeaUN during the 1st movie.
Two, she doesn't need to anymore, he's psychically present. And close enough for her to smell.
Three, the isolation facility is not gonna give her any cigarettes but I would say Akane is not stressing over cases while locked up.
How does Akane feel now having him back, at the end of First Inspector? She'll be woring again and this time he is in the country. I don't know how much stress she will be dealing with. However, now she can sit next to him and calm her self with his scent. She couldn't do that on S2 when she picked up the habit.
I just was to feel her express that gentleness of being relaxed by his scent and presence in the near future. I don't believe that she would say ouloud but just a little quiet moment in her mind.
Btw Akane doesn't actually smoke the cigarette she just burns it like it incense. She just associates the smell with kogami who always made her feel reassured so when she wants to focus/relax on a case she would burn it. Akane-chan just associates the smell with Kogami. That's why she hasn't developed a deep addictive habit to it because she wasn't actually smoking it the nicotine herself. Which is why its harder for Ko to quit when he runs out versus Akane.

Thanks to @kisa-chan for sharing this with me! The movie looks incredible and full of action. Also…Saiga? Iz u okay? I guess he’s not, since all of his students seem very sad at some point. It looks like he’s bleeding?
As for Kogami and Akane… nah, no supportive little touches, no repetition of past scenes…have them hug, or kiss, or something more. I want to see Akane in action too, like the little badass she was in the movie and in season 2. I want her fighting people and running away from explosions. We know she can fight, so I would love to see her doing that again.
Is Gino here already part of SAD? Why would he leave Tsunemori’s side before she gets arrested?
Again, this looks incredible. I’m excited!

Shinkane Week 2022 Day 1
I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to return to the youkai AU, and the “charity” prompt gave me the inspiration! Up on FF.net and AO3!
Amezaiku
“Once again, as a reminder, please avoid areas of flooding. Please secure your belongings and stay away from the windows of your residence.” The radio announcer’s voice faded in the background, as Akane walked through the room. Flashlight, batteries, water bottles. She ran her mind through the supplies again, trying to calm her nerves. This certainly wasn’t the first typhoon she’d experienced, but she was alone, in Obaa-chan’s house. A sudden gust of wind tossed the chimes over the porch, and her attention was drawn to the forest stretching beyond.
I wonder how Kougami-san and the other youkai are doing.
The last time she’d seen any of them was three nights ago, before the storm had shifted direction. Kagari had cracked jokes that raised Ginoza’s hackles, though Akane laughed anyway. And Kougami had devoured every bite of the manju offering, tongue slowly running over his teeth afterwards. Despite herself, she blushed at the memory.
A loud boom of thunder made her jump, and she spared another look to the dark treeline. Then, branches snapped and gave way, a large shadow springing out. The dark wolf form was instantly recognizable. Kougami paced about, ears pricking up when she opened the door.
“Hi, Kougami-san. Are you alright?”
“Fine.” He sounded curt. “Looking for shelter.”
“Why don’t you stay here? There’s plenty of room.”
His tail swished at her offer but he said. “It’s not just me. The others too, and more than Gino and Kagari.”
“They can all come in! And please hurry, it’ll rain soon.”
A huff escaped him, close to laughter. “You’re too generous, Tsunemori. Then, I’ll call them over.” And he reared his head, howling. Beautiful and haunting, it sent a shiver down her spine.
Immediately, the trees rustled. Akane spotted Kagari first, the weasel bounding eagerly. The dark silver fox was Ginoza, but the sandy fox following him was unfamiliar, muzzle whitening with age. And from above, a crow and swan swooped into the yard.
It couldn’t have been a moment sooner, because lightning cracked, a white ribbon flickering on the horizon. Akane urged everyone inside, and Kougami was the first to transform back. As he walked past, he touched her shoulder and the corner of his mouth lifted in gratitude.
Kagari had a wide grin, eager to explore the house, and Ginoza, who actually wore glasses in his human form, surveyed everything with an air of suspicion. The others also introduced themselves as Masaoka, Kunizuka, and Karanomori. They seemed polite enough…at first.
“So, you must be Kougami’s human.” Masaoka gave a wry smile.
“Eh?!”
“Oh, look at her blush.” Karanomori reached over to pinch her cheek, the shoulder of her white kimono slipping precariously. “Shinya really picked a cutie.”
Kunizuka didn’t add anything, but the sparkle of amusement in her dark eyes was almost as bad.
“Hey, Akane-chan! This is all you have to eat?!” Apparently, the kitchen was being raided by a certain weasel. She ran in to find a mess, pots and pans strewn everywhere, but Kagari held up a hand. “No, don’t come in here. I’ll cook, it’s my way to pay you back.”
She would’ve protested, but Masaoka steered her around. “Go on, ojou-chan, we’ll prepare a feast for dinner and you can take it easy. Why don’t you find Kou? He must be keeping watch.”
The house had darkened, as if night came early, and she nearly tripped over his tail when she entered the living room. His hand gripped her forearm to steady her.
“Oi.” In the low light, his eyes glinted silver.
“Th-thank you.”
“Am I not supposed to be here?”
“No, that’s not it!” She sat beside him. He had been facing the windows, directly surveying the foreboding landscape. “You just surprised me. Were you watching the weather?”
“The raijuu are awakening.” The way he talked about legendary thunder beasts was unbelievably casual. “You gave us shelter, so we protect the house in exchange. Gino’s at the other end. And it sounds like the others are slacking off. I hope they’re not bothering you.”
“It’s alright. Everyone’s nice. Although, they said I was your human…?”
Kougami coughed, turning slightly away. “They haven’t met a human in a long time, so they’ve forgotten their manners.”
“Is it really that rare to interact with people? In the folktales, it seemed youkai encounters were a given.”
“It wasn’t common but not unheard of. But as centuries passed and humans built roads and nations, they drifted away from the world of youkai. At least, that’s what I was told, a long time ago. Your grandmother would probably say the same.”
She wondered who had first told him about the separation, but she didn’t ask. Instead, she said. “Obaa-chan would be thrilled to meet all of you, let alone in her house.”
“You’re worried about her.”
“Her hospital is further inland, which is good. I just hope they don’t lose power.” Meanwhile, the rain had begun to fall, pattering against the windows. The glass panes became enveloped in a clear sheen of water, like sugar syrup. “Once, when I was younger, we went to a festival and she bought me amezaiku. You know, the candy in the shape of animals? Mine was a pink jellyfish and I thought it was too pretty to eat.”
“Did you?”
“Eventually, but I don’t think I could ever try making my own. I’ve been working on taiyaki and I was deciding on the fillings.”
His ears snapped forwards, adorably so. “What flavor?”
“I’m not sure yet. What would you like?”
“What would I like?” He repeated. “Never been asked that before. It’s a very human question.”
She wryly smiled. “And youkai can answer.”
“Then…I’ve heard of chestnut.”
“That sounds good! I’ll prepare it for the next offering.”
He gave a crooked smile, a pointed canine showing. “Ah. I’ll look forward to it.”
She stared for too long, her heartbeat suddenly pounding. The sound of rain faded away…
A flashlight beam cut across the room. “What are you two doing by the windows?” Ginoza interrupted, the light reflecting off his glasses. “Don’t you know it’s dangerous, especially with the thunder beasts loose?”
“How else are we supposed to stay vigilant?” Kougami retorted.
“You haven’t lived in a house, you wouldn’t understand. And wouldn’t you know better?” He glared at Akane, and she only had a flimsy excuse.
“I’m from the city…”
“Honestly, you two.” He strode off, muttering and belatedly calling out. “The kitchen doesn’t need any help so don’t go in!”
There was another roll of thunder as they retreated to the opposite side of the room, and Kougami clicked his tongue. “I can round the perimeter. What about you?”
“I’ll clean up in here and look for the games we have. We can make the most of the storm.”
“If you see a blue and white youkai that’s crackling with lightning, let us know right away.” And with that, he ruffled her hair, tail sweeping against her legs. It happened so quickly, she couldn’t react before he exited into the hallway.
Maybe, the static electricity in the air was rampant. Why else would she feel this charged?

Ez-chan's Name Day
So, today's Ez-chan's birthday so I decided to put a little surprise to show her my appreciation.
The day started with the Vietnamese ca phe and Choc-nut puncakes that I prepared for us to enjoy while watching Yowamushi Pedal. We waited for a few while until my phone rang signifying the arrival of the sunflower bouquet that I pre-ordered for today.
"Thank you! Magkano 'to?"
Whenever I give her presents, she always responds with these. First, for appreciation. Second, to know how much I spent for the gifts because she doesn't want me to be spending a lot for her.
"Mura lang 'yan." I told her.
She then started to browse for the flowers online. Ultimately, she knew how much it really was. I really can't hide anything from her hehe.
Come afternoon, we ordered pizza and pasta from Gino's. She also booked a whole a** sans rival to complete the celebration. I also gave her a new mechanical keyboard to reciprocate the gift that she gave me for our anniversary.
Happy birthday, Ez-chan! You're well-loved and I'm really proud of you.

Rashaad's Thoughts on Gion Division
Koyumi
"Koyumi-san doesn't come to the bar often since her work as a Geisha keeps her busy. If she's not in her home city of Gino, she's in Osaka, Kyoto, or somewhere else, providing a little bit of Japanese culture to it. Still, a couple of times throughout the year, she somehow finds time to come here to the Eagle's Nest and get herself a drink. When she does, I often place her in the VIP section since I know she likes to get a little peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of life. It's always nice to have her here. Why? How many other bar owners can say that have the privilege of being able to serve a Geisha?"
Honoka Ajisai
"Honoka-chan, unfortunately, doesn't come to Eagle's Nest. For one, she is under the legal drinking age. And secondly, I think she's a little shy. Koyumi-san says she was a very sheltered child so she doesn't know much about the outside world, which is sad. I hope Koyumi-san keeps an eye out for her. There are many terrible people out there that would seek to take advantage of a young girl like Honoka-chan."
Moriko Himawari
Rashaad scratches the back of his bald head at the photo of the former horror actress. "Moriko-san is... a very nice, young woman. If I'm being honest, her behavior reminds me a lot of Miss Rose, not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact, I think that's why she and Miss Rose get along so well. Not surprising since anyone lucky enough to befriend Moriko-san is lucky indeed..." Rashaad takes a moment to realize what he just said, and coughs inside his hand, embarrassed.
"A-anyway, as stated, I am very lucky to have her acquaintance. Whenever she comes to the bar, I always serve her a drink, free of charge. She's truly a joy to talk to, though she can get a bit excitable at times. She says she's been making headway on her manga. She promised to show me when she was done. I'm really looking forward to it."
Hana no Joō
"When Koyumi-san informed me that she was entering the D.R.B., I was very surprised. She didn't exactly specify why she was entering, but I didn't bother her about it. Her reasons are her own, after all. Still, it will be weird seeing her up on stage rapping. I know she is a skilled singer, but... singing and rapping, though they are in the same realm, they are still different in ways. What's more, I'm also worried about Honoka-chan and Moriko-san." Rashaad looks away after mentioning the third member.
"I only hope that this tournament doesn't hurt them all badly. And... if we should happen to meet on stage, I hope that they don't take what is said to heart, please."
