Enough of Both was my first hinny story and it’s got a real special place in my heart for a lot of reasons. because i loved the epistolary aspects of the storytelling, i loved exploring the post-war golden/silver trio dynamic, and it introduced me to the incredible community of hinny shippers in the best way. it was also how i got to know @narukoibito (she beta’d) and that might have been the best thing to ever happened to me.

Hinnyfest (and other epilogues) hosted by @sweeethinny—a couple years ago, we all got together and did a month of prompts one november. i decided to choose my prompts based what i thought harry and ginny’s life could look like post-the path from you. it was honestly a blast to write. and it was really fun to post, because at the time i think a lot of people didn’t trust me and didn’t think i’d actually let tpfy!harry&ginny be happy

Spring Fever it’s so fuckin weird. but i love it because it’s weird. also i like trying to figure out ginny’s headspace before she realizes harry actually reciprocates her hopeless crush.

My Hand’s at Risk (I Fold) @fairsquare16 brought up slytherin harry one (1) time and my brain wouldn’t let it go. also rivals to lovers is my ride or die, so it’s fun to attempt a realistic way that harry and ginny would truly be at odds, yet also keep what i think is central to their characters and their relationship. i don’t think i’ll ever be done with this universe. it’s a bit of a comfort fic for me and i go back to it often.

confessions should be better planned *~gRaPhiC dEsiGn Is MY pAsSiON~* (also dermot kennedy) there’s something so satisfying about a text fic. and telling a story that is all subtext.

🌫 Fog - What was the hardest part of your WIP to write?

It has to be deciding which POV to write in. A Light in the Shadows will have multiple POVs, most often it will be James or Lily - but the boys and Severus will be there too.

As the writer, I know how both James and Lily are feeling, but picking which side the audience gets to see can be hard.

I find I default to thinking in James's POV at first - probably because I have read so much more from his POV. However, I think Lily's POV is so much more interesting, but very hard to write.

Not Flirting At All

Happy Birthday @ginnyw-potter !!!!! Here's some fluff for your Fluff O'Clock Challenge!

He’d tell himself later it wasn’t flirting.

She had a boyfriend.

His mate Dean.

Wanker.

He’d tell himself he was just distracting his overworked, exhausted teammate during her OWL year.

She had circles under her eyes.

His best friend’s sister.

“Alright,” Harry said, reaching over and taking Ginny’s spare quill out from behind her ear. He didn’t mean to, but his finger brushed against the strand of hair that had escaped the twist in the back.

His hand flexed. He would think about how silky it had felt later. Trying to salvage the moment, he lifted a piece of her parchment from in front of her and dipped his quill into her ink. “Fair warning, I’m not as good at this as you.”

“Good at what? What are you talking about?”

“Poetry,” he scoffed. “What did you think I meant?”

“Uh, well, so many things to choose from,” Ginny mused, happily putting aside her work in favor of her preferred activity, verbal one-upmanship with a side of snark. “Quidditch, baking, pranking, hexing.”

“I’m good at hexing.”

“You’re good at dueling,” Ginny grinned. “There’s a difference.”

“Alright, game on.” He returned her grin, before snapping back to his game face. “I am going to prove I’m a better poet than you.”

A burst of a laugh escaped Ginny’s throat, husky and strong. “Not too difficult. I don’t think anyone would have called any nonsense I pen ‘good.’”

Her laugh made him want to grin again, but OWL-distracting banter was on the menu, so he shrugged instead. “Please. Stop fishing for compliments.”

“I wasn’t!”

“Oh, yes you were. As if anyone could deny the brilliance of getting their eyes compared to fresh pickled toads.”

Ginny sighed and stared up at the ceiling. “You remembered.”

“Of course I remember,” he replied, eyes still on paper. Then, he frowned, stared at her a moment, and began to write. “Her hair flames as bright as a fire crab’s bum-“

Ginny giggled and Harry’s gaze shot up from his parchment at the rare sound. Ginny Weasley laughed, Ginny Weasley chuckled, Ginny Weasley threw back her head in unabashed joy. He didn’t know whether he had ever heard her giggle.

He wanted to hear it again. “Or, should it be arse, instead of bum? ‘Her hair flames as bright as a fire crab’s arse’?”

“Are you asking me the connotative differences between arse and bum?”

“Well,” Harry shrugged. “It’s my first poem. Bum sounds like something you sit on, but arse somehow sounds flamier.”

“Also bigger, though.” She giggled again, and Harry felt like he’d won the Quidditch cup.

“Hmmm… hadn’t thought about that. You’re right. Her hair flames as bright as a fire crab’s bum.”

She leaned over to watch the words on his parchment. Her freckled nose all crinkled up in the most adorable way, her brown eyes were… the words came out of his mouth while his quill hovered over the page. “Her eyes are like melted milk chocolate.”

“Oh no,” Ginny shook her head in mock sadness. “I think you may have rhymed yourself into a corner there.”

“Oh ye of little faith.”

“Alright,” she sighed. “If you insist. I do appreciate you not picking something like mud or poo.”

“Well, I think toilet humor is overrated and there’s already something about an arse in here.”

“Bum.”

“Whatever.” He grinned at her. ���You going to keep distracting me, or do you want me to finish?”

“Oh,” Ginny sat back with a relaxed smile, crossing her arms. “Sorry to interrupt your art. Do continue.”

Harry had a sudden vision, Ginny Weasley, pajamas. Mugs of steaming morning tea. Slow, “glad you’re awake” kisses.

What did she taste…

Realizing he was staring at her lips, he ripped his gaze away from her mouth. Do not write about her lips.

How soft they looked. How they had a peachy-pink rightness to them that other girls didn’t have.

Focus on something else. Something not sexy.

Except everything about her was sexy.

Except her boyfriend, he reminded himself.

She had a boyfriend.

His mate Dean.

Wanker.

His pen started scratching on the parchment furiously. “She can hurl gnomes, and write silly poems- “

“Silly?” Ginny sat up, offended.

“Did I say ‘silly’?” Harry dipped his quill back in the ink. “I meant ‘brilliant’. She can hurl gnomes, and write brilliant poems-“

“That’s much better,” she grinned. “But now you’re face-to-face with your chocolate rhyme.”

“I can do it,” he narrowed his eyes at her, competitive spirit rising.

“Sure you can,” she said, with a sarcastic eyeroll.

“Chocolate, chocolate,” he muttered, tapping his quill on the parchment. “Chocolate, gnomes, poems-“

“You’re cracking under the pressure.”

“Am not.”

“You’re crumbling.”

“From her friend, who she likes to mock a lot.”

Ginny blinked. “You’re rhyming chocolate with mock a lot?”

“It sort of rhymes.”

“No it doesn’t!” She laughed. “It doesn’t at all.”

“It does if you sort of, y’know, mush your mouth on chocolate, like you’re French, or something.” He made a funny pinching move towards his mouth and was rewarded with another ring of her laughter. “Make that oh really an ‘ooooohhhhhh.’ Choc-o-loooooot.”

“That’s reaching, Harry.”

“Well,” he shrugged, folding up the parchment. “If you don’t want it…”

“No!!!” She sprang up, reached across the table, and snatched the parchment out of his hand. “I want it! I definitely want it.”

She unfolded the parchment and stared at it a moment, her smile softening to something Harry thought was achingly beautiful. Then, she held the parchment to her chest, and grinned at him over the top of it. “Thank you. All my childhood wounds are now healed,” she said with mock self-deprecation.

“My pleasure,” Harry said softly, wishing she had more dragons for him to slay.

I most certainly can! I am an absolute sucker for a Muggle AU, here are some of the ones I love the most:

Your first stop should absolutely be everything written by the fabulous @ginnyw-potter. She has so many fantastic Hinny Muggle AUs. My absolute favourite is Spilt Blood, but you really can't go wrong!

@starlingflight also has so many wonderful Hinny stories, amongst them the recent and excellent I heart ?, plus her ongoing WIP Bewitched, which might not technically entirely meet your brief, but is just so good I couldn't not mention it.

BrightlyBound should be on the must-read list for any Hinny stan, and for Muggle AUs, my favourites are everything i am is yours and About That Night

I absolutely adore text fics, and if you do too, you will love Heliophile by @seriouslysam8.

Sticking with text fics, try Come Stay for the Summer by @ashotofogdensoldfirewhiskey, which is one that I come back to again and again.

Scoring extra marks for bonus Jily Lives content is the fantastic sports AU ecchymosis by @gryffindormischief, who also co-authored the truly epic Kindle along with fightfortherightsofhouseelves.

One I discovered fairly recently is blind-date-with-a-twist fic Altered by betterthanfirewhisky

She Faced Danger, But Never Feared It

Dorcas Meadowes walked quickly down the sterile hall of St. Mungo’s, in response to an emergency call. The light of the full moon filtered in through the tall hospital windows, casting eerie shadows along the long corridor. She skillfully avoided orderlies and medi-witches, her mind singularly focused on the task ahead. Pulling her grey hair into a bun, she steeled herself as the Aurors brought in the injured children.

A werewolf attack.

Children hardly ever survived such brutal encounters. There had been more of them lately—intentional attacks by organized packs. The war was endless and brutal, and each new victim underscored the rising tide of darkness. Blood was everywhere, staining the tiny bodies, the pristine white tile floor, and the Aurors' robes. The metallic scent stung her nostrils.

Dorcas didn't have time to be disgusted by the sight. She grabbed a gurney and pushed it into an empty room. Her hands moved quickly, agile from years of experience, as she prepared to do everything in her power to save these children. Maybe this night, just this one night, she could save one child's life.

I have so many people to thank. This fic was truly supported by a community of friends who helped me finish it when I had almost given it up.

hey, i have been a fan yours since your Instagram and old tumblr days, so just wanted to pop in ask you how you've been doing? also asking for your hinny fic recs!

Hey, that's actually so cool!

It's been about three years since I stopped using that account. Unfortunately I had to study a lot to get into University and my free time has been greatly reduced. But all in all I'm fine now, thanks for asking. I hope you are too!

There are so many fics that I love that it's impossible to remember them all, so I'll try to fit some in here!

Consider that I like really everything from these authors, so I recommend you read their other fics in addition to the ones I suggest. It's totally worth it!

-Brumous by @seriouslysam8 and its prequels (my personal favourite is Backstabber). As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the best fics I've ever read and she's an amazing writer. She's on a break from Brumous at the moment, but is releasing Selcouth which is just as good in my opinion!

-7 Scandals and a Baby by @ginnyw-potter ! It's a story set during the Regency and has an incredible atmosphere around it! She's an incredible writer and has an insane creativity too. Think of any trope and 99% of the time she's already written about it lmao (if she hasn't already, she almost certainly will). Also, her Harry and Ginny are soo good. (Not a Done Deal is one of my favourites too!)

-These Cuts I Have by Melindaleo and its sequels. It's a trilogy set in the post-war period and it's a wonderful read. I just reread it for the third time and I love the way it deals with Harry's horrible childhood and the relationship he develops with the Weasleys! Read it!

-The Path From You by @takeariskao3 too! I feel stupid for only now discovering her work, but I'm spending my afternoons catching up on it all lol. It's a story full of angst and great tension building before Hinny arrives. But I love a good slow burn, I have to admit, and she wrote it so damn good! I really recommend reading it!

-An Hour of Wolves by @solvskrift ! This one is quite heavy and angsty because it deals with a particularly sensitive subject, but I think it's absolutely worth it. The worst thing is that it's about something that could have easily happened in the canon and it's horrible to think about. I love the way it is written and deals with such sensitive topics, as well as the wonderful characterization of the characters. It is a work in progress, but it is definitely worth reading because it is incredible!

These are just a few fics and I don't know how many more I'm missing, but feel free to recommend me some too!

4. Who initiates affection? Why does the other not initiate affection as much?

Both but I think Harry takes a little longer to get comfortable with it and how they do changes overtime. I imagine after the war they don’t immediately talk about everything that’s happened but Ginny just hugs him tightly because she thought he died. At the funerals he takes her hand and doesn’t let go the whole day. But he’s also afraid of overstepping with the family around so he tried to minimize it in public but Ginny just doesn’t accept that and eventually he’s just happy to near her even if he gets a couple judgy looks.

when they see each other over the holidays things are different and Harry is the one you initiates more. Pulling her in to hallways to snog and trying to spend every moment they can together and Ginny loves that he’s more open.

I think the way Harry shows affection is more gift giving and acts of service. He likes surprising her and doing thoughtful things to make her happy. Ginny is more words of affirmation and physical touch which are both things Harry’s spent his early life without so it’s exactly what he needs.

7. How often do they say “I love you”?

as much as possible. They both nearly lost each other. They know how fragile life is and that Harry has a dangerous job so they never want to leave it unsaid.

14. Do they enjoy PDA, or are they more private with affection?

I am also fond of stories that have them sneaking off and everyone rolling their eyes because it happens all the time.
