I have been really depressed lately, and was feeling especially bad just now so I got on tumblr to try to cheer me up, and then I saw a bunch of reblogs of cowboy Ed on my dash from @naughty-teddy-innit and @gingerpawfection and it deffo cheered me up. Sooo I wanna tell you guys about what I’ve got set up to help me keep an eye out for m&g contests.

I’ve got it set up so that any time one of the radio stations in my area tweets the words “Ed Sheeran”, I get an email. If you wanted you could make this even more specific, like only get alerted if they tweet the words “Ed Sheeran” and “meet” or “Ed Sheeran” and “win” but I didn’t want to take any chances.

It’s been really useful, since most radio stations will tweet about contests. I’ve been notified about 3 contests to win tickets so far and we’re still months from the concert.

Steps on how to do it are under the read more so this doesn’t get too long. I’m also going to tag some tumblrs that I think might be interested in this.

Step 1: Go to ifttt.com and create an account

Step 2: Click on “my applets” and then “new applet”

Step 3: You’ll be taken to a screen that says “if +this then that” with “this” in blue. Click on “this” and you’ll be taken to a screen that asks you to choose a service. Choose twitter.

Step 4: Now you’ll be at a page that says “choose trigger.” Scroll down and pick the one that says “new tweet from search.”

Step 5: In the box that says “search for” you’re going to type this

from:TwitterofRadioStation “Ed Sheeran”

but replace “TwitterofRadioStation” with the twitter handle. So for example, one of the radio stations in Chicago is 103.5 Kiss FM, and their twitter handle is 1035KISSFM. So I would put from:1035KISSFM “Ed Sheeran” in the box. So it would look like this when I was done:

If you wanted, after “Ed Sheeran” you could also add “win” or “meet” or any other word you want the tweet to contain to make it more specific.

Sorry if I’m not explaining this well, feel free to ask me if you have questions. Once you’ve got what you want in there, click “create trigger”

Step 6: It’ll take you back to the “if this then that” screen except “this” will have the twitter icon. Click on “that” and then choose how you want to be notified. I chose email, but if you wanted you could choose SMS to get texts instead.

Step 7: If you chose email, click on “send me an email” and then click “create action”. If you chose text, click “connect” and enter your phone number, they’ll text you a pin which you’ll enter & click connect. Then click “send me an sms” and then “create action”

Step 8: Finally, click “finish” and you’re done! Now whenever that radio station tweets about Ed Sheeran, you will get an email.

Step 9: Repeat for every radio station’s twitter account that you want to be notified about. I believe there’s a limit of 15 twitters you can do this for, but that should be plenty.

I hope this wasn’t too hard to follow. I’ve found it really useful so that I don’t have to keep checking a bunch of different twitters constantly, now I just get emails sent (and I get notifications on my phone whenever I receive an email). So I encourage all of you to give it a try! If you have any questions please feel free to ask me & I’ll try my best to answer them!
