it's so incredibly interesting to go in with this plan I have for rye's ending, because so much of it is built up in their relationship to varric -- and the relationship they have to varric is so completely different to and entirely separate in my head from the relationship I have to varric after loving him for more than a decade and relentlessly psychoanalyzing him and his many and various insane emotional intimacy issues through the rich medium that is dragon age 2, but it's arguably even stronger. I love varric, but rye LOVED this dude for being exactly the person they needed when they were lost and needed someone to truly recognize them and ground them in the world as they lost their anchors. (with some additional baby bird 'DAD SHAPED!!!' primal instinct from their father figure growing up). but also rye didn't know varric like I know varric. (the same way you uh. can't know your parents until you come along to be born, sort of thing I guess lol.) and I know the reason varric immediately took to and understood this kid is that they remind him so much of hawke as a young man that it hurts his heart a little bit with sheer tenderness for rook, for hawke then and hawke now -- for himself back then, (for anders, always, beneath the old and ashen anger, sometimes despite himself). for every lost and young and struggling person who's trying their best and truly could not have known any better until the one day they did, no matter what happened later in consequence. which is also part of what I feel towards rook.

I am making out with the fourth wall right now. me and the fourth wall are doing some things that wouldn't fly on tumblr after 2018 to each other. (it's what varric would have wanted)

(rye being someone who beneath it all is so desperate for parental warmth and guidance and being seen (and even more basically with feeling warmly invited by someone into the story of the world/reality as someone who is a unique and separate and loveable part of it. which, for all I love the grand necropolis and all the absolute fifth house style weirdos that inhabit it, is not something the mourn watch is very good at giving people if they need it, I think) that he'll take even the hollow shell appearance of it with only the lightest touch of blood magic to help him along in accepting the unreal scraps as enough. grief fills the room up with my absent dad, speaks with his voice, walks the necropolis halls up and down with me every day already, I'm GREAT at ghosts I call them up all the time just to have a chat. gimme back cloth mother I'll bring her to some semblance of life with necromancy myself if I have to. like yeah it feels like varric is becoming more distant and unreachable to me every day in the lighthouse. just like the man who was to all intents and purposes my father did, when he was dying. and afterwards the necropolis swallowed him up in its quiet eternal mercy that'll never give him back to me. if anyone knows there's no struggling against that it's a watcher. so I can never ask to have him back, and the helpless child-like cry for it anyway will find its peaceful tomb in my throat and never be let out. oh rye. oh buddy. yeah I'd probably also want to stab solas to something worse than death, under those psychological circumstances, fair enough. rye 'I keep all my feelings bottled up in here and then one day. there's alot of bad faith takes online (whether YouTube twitter or Tumblr). any idea how they happened and how to avoid making them? i notice some ppl have used political topic when analyzing media (mainly for kids) some tropes and story elements are based on stuff from the real world, has they ever work properly and how?

There are a variety of reasons why people have bad faith takes on anything, really. If you wish to avoid them, then you need to consider other people's perspective and assume good intentions. Allow people to clarify themselves if there is a misunderstanding. Don't make wild accusations about people in general. Don't think you're right all the time and that it's ok that people make mistakes, so long as they acknowledge them and genuinely apologize.

Just follow the Golden Rule.

As for analyzing media (even kids' media) through a political lens, you really need to know what you're talking about so you don't oh, I don't know, accuse a Jewish woman of being a Nazi sympathizer. Part of that is doing research, the other part is acknowledging your own limitations and that you will never know everything.

I think you can analyze any form of media through a particular lens but there actually has to be enough textual evidence to justify it. ATLA is a good exploration of totalitarianism and how the powers that be that control the narrative dictate how the ordinary citizen sees the world. The Ba Sing Se arc itself is a great showcase of a police state and how those in power stay in power. The reason why is because ATLA takes its time depicting how the Dai Li operate and how the Earth King is a puppet. Ba Sing Se itself is basically a caste system that separates the elites from the refugees, so that those living comfortably can live in peace while the poor continue to suffer.

On the other hand, despite what many fans think, The Owl House is not a good depiction of colonization, fascism, or really any other major oppressive system because of how inconsistent the writing is. No one cares that Eda is a wild witch or a criminal, not even when she strolls into her former school. The EC is either menacing or wildly incompetent. There aren't any groups of wild witches being persecuted by Belos' regime despite that being a practical gimme.

Plus, there is Toh's biggest sin regarding writing oppressive systems is that you cannot pin it all on One Bad Guy. That's the point of it, if you take the One Bad Man out, another guy will replace him, that's how oppressive systems perpetuate themselves. The Dai Li didn't disband because Long Feng was defeated, the Dai Li betrayed him because they saw a stronger leader in Azula, who then used their power to take over the city from the inside (The Legend of Korra would continue this trend of corrupt leadership with the Earth Queen). Compare that to the Emperor's Coven which never had any consistent power and influence over the isles and were effectively defunct as soon as Belos was slammed into a wall.

All of this is to say that if your show is going to tackle real world issues, you'd better know how they actually operate and make sure your writing reflects that.

She extends a timid hand in reach for the chain around her neck— a delicate, slender finger adorning the cross adjacent. "When faced with something supernatural, I turn to my faith. Asya's gaze met those of her questioner, a hint of inquisition flickering as her gaze cast timorously. "But, I also have a natural curiosity about subjects in regard to the paranormal. I long to understand it, to grasp how it fits into the larger picture of my faith. Although, it is a sensitive discussion to undertake. noel is an artist: he paints, he draws, he sculpts, he builds – art has been a passion and his talent since he figured out how to hold a pencil. despite having natural talent, he stayed up endless nights working to perfect every medium he tried. he also learned the piano at his father’s request, as he deemed it a necessary skill to impress at parties and to brag about to his business partners. art is also how he found what he loves doing most – tattooing. easles were lovely, but to carry art and have it be a part of you, now that was exciting. 

he managed to begin an apprenticeship at 17 (in secret), the local tattoo shop becoming his home away from home. he spent his afterschool afternoons in there, using the excuse of extra credit or some fancy sounding club. the owner, Enrique, wasn’t that much older than him. he was a tall, burly man in his late twenties and noel immediately took a liking towards him, and with his guidance, noel became a recognized tattoo artist over the years.

piercings came much later, after he’d made himself known in both social media and the community. it happened the same as it did with tattooing, there was just a beauty to it. the cultural significance of both was clear and that made him want to appreciate the craft and learn how to do them.

personality wise, he’s unapologetically sarcastic though he mostly doesn’t mean any harm; coy glances and smug grins over a glass of wine are his signature, but he finds peace in listening to the reasoning behind a person’s tattoo or body mod - they’re sacred to him, so every detail that gets explained fills his eyes with tremendous joy. he’s not much of a committed relationship kind of guy, so any intimate relationships he has are mostly casual and he’s very strict about that. there might be an opportunity for him to find love, but it’s not his priority currently.

noel finds social gatherings incredibly amusing: he’s charming, eloquent, and perhaps enjoys causing an impression on people a tad too much. he puts himself out there and he enjoys all the stares directed his way, be they in approval or in judgment, he basks in the attention that he gets just by being himself.

addiction is no stranger to him, be it to substances or pain itself, he indulges in every sin known to mankind, and he enjoys doing so with company.

his years of freedom ended when he began working for his father as an ‘assistant’ after finishing his masters at 27, doing all this dirty work and being the son his father carefully crafted the moment he was born. it was a difficult transition, losing part of his innocence and soul to what his father made him do; his family’s fortune was made of blood, and now he was also part of it. he learned the secret workings of society, all the violence and crime became second nature.

As soon as she presses send, Clarke wants to take it back. They might have gotten closer over the past week, the usual animosity between them dying down to a mere annoyance, but Lexa is still her boss and talking about missing her dad is still oversharing.

“Oh” is all the answer Clarke gets, after a couple agonizing minutes. She’s about to throw her phone clean across the living room and head to bed when it pings in her hand, “She’s alive. I did not think she’d be alive.”

Hard as she tries, her brain can’t make sense of it. “Who?”

“Amy Dunne. I’m watching the movie.”

Clarke turns her TV back on to the monologue scene, Amy writing about a whole story she never lived. “I didn’t think you’d really watch it.” It makes her smile to her phone like a teenager with a crush. But Lexa, the most stoic woman she knows, is watching a movie she recommended — Clarke reserves the right to be smug about it. “And how did you make it so long without watching it? It’s been out for almost a decade.”

Amy has just taken a mallet to her cheekbone when Lexa answers. “You don’t see me poking holes in your pop culture knowledge. It’s just not something I usually watch.”

“You like romcoms, don’t you?” Clarke texts back in a whim, in a teasing tone.

“I refuse to answer that.”

Clarke bursts out laughing, full belly laughter. She should have known — Lexa has a pink water bottle and the pen she favors the most has a little golden charm on it, of course she’d like romcoms.

“We can watch When Harry Met Sally next time.”

Their lives have been so chaotic lately that this is a rare peaceful moment. Neither can tell when the next one will be. But Clarke will find a day —maybe a Saturday afternoon, or even another Wednesday night when they’re stuck in the office— and she’ll get Lexa to admit her favorite movies are all romcoms.

Hi I am another Elriel shipper that genuinely loves reading you thoughts. While I don’t agree with everything you say I think they are very insightful and thought provoking and I enjoy them . Before I get to my point I just want to say that I am truly sorry on behalf of the Elriel fandom for all the negative that has been going down as of late. As someone who yearns for peace in the fandom and cannot tolerate seeing honest people being torn because of a ship.. seeing this shipwar pains me . I am fairly new to this fandom and I follow many Elriel blogs and pro Elaine and pro Lucien blogs. Some happen to be Elucien shippers too and I find myself gravitating towards them more as people rather than of my fellow Elriel shippers. Don’t get me wrong I still adore Elriel . But I just don’t want to surround myself with certain type of people no longer . My question is , Do you know of any blogs that lean more towards neutral shipping or don’t care about shipping at all?

@feysandfeels the Lady Lulu to my Lady Lele. She doesn't put up with any anti sjm BS and is a positive space.
