Neopets/Skyrim Tarot: Ace & 6 of Cups

In the Skyrim Tarot, the Suit of Cups is instead depicted as the Suit of Voice. Refer to this post for my broader Minor Arcana suit complaints.

I chose the Ace and Six of each suit for reasons that you will see when we get to the Wands posts, but simply put, the Ace is the embodiment of the suit and the Six is what comes next after the first arc is done (provided you refer to the Ace-to-Five as one arc and Six-to-Ten as the other, splitting the suit evenly down the middle).

The Skyrim Tarot is a pip deck, which visually takes after the Tarot of Marseilles but the meanings are derived from the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot since that's the most popular type of tarot for divination, as this deck is meant to be used for.

Marina the Water Faerie is also known as the Healing Springs Faerie. Like all Water Faeries, she has a mermaid tail instead of a pair of wings. She is currently in a relationship with Seraphina the Fire Faerie who is also known as the Omelette Faerie and has a Faellie Petpet that Seraphina named Shiver.

Besides the Rainbow Fountain and the Battledome, the Healing Springs is one of the few Faerie-run places that every Neopian knows. Every thirty minutes, she can heal your pets or give you a healing-related potion or a snowball. (Yes, snowballs are weaponized in Neopia. And they're actually pretty good...or they were, back when I was playing.)

Overall, considering Naia the Water Faerie (the Rainbow Fountain one) is the Ten of Cups, it makes sense to start and end the Water suit with Water Faeries.

Gilly the (unclear Colour) Usul is a young girl who was key in the 2006 Neovia "Tale of Woe" plot. Alongside Bruno (who was cursed) and Sophie the Swamp Witch (who are two siblings from a three-child Neovian family), Gilly figured out the origin of Neovia's curse and resurrected the town.

In the Six of Cups, Gilly is lost in the Haunted Woods but isn't afraid (...yet; she spends a lot of time scared in the plot). The candle holders in this image are all designed after the mysterious flower used to lift the curse on Neovia's citizens. As the Little Red Riding Hood of this tale, Gilly took on the role of the well-meaning child who saves the town. I think she is an excellent choice for this card in the Neopets deck.

The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller is, as you would expect, the horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Or at the very least, it was named for him. Insert penis joke so we can move on.

The whole point of it in Skyrim is to be a MacGuffin so we can be introduced to Delphine by a mysterious note. But hey, you can eventually bring it back to the Greybeards. You can also get a dragon soul (or more, if you're quick) by poking its pedestal.

Other than that...it doesn't have a lot going on. It has slightly more lore than the average pip card, but...eh? It's a functional pip depiction. Unlike the other suits, there isn't a second design element beyond the horn and the wind coming from the horn (which counts as part of the overall horn).

Gilly (Neopets) redesign

I decided to try a sort of ‘redesign a character challenge’ thing as a distraction exercise and ended up choosing a franchise I haven’t thought about nor interacted with for over 10 years.

All in all I was going for an outdoorsy tyke look and making sure she was equipped for her excursions. Also while in the process of drawing I ended up musing on how even when acknowledging her canon characterisation she’s probably a bit of a cheerily chaotic free-range gremlin child who apparently loves running off to the Haunted Woods which are Literally Called Haunted for a Reason in spite of being directionally challenged and unlucky. I bet in spite of her past encounters with the grim and ghoulish she secretly loves it there and probably collects weird-looking bugs, feeds the scary wildlife like ducks and has picnics in graveyards.

Just a bit of artist waffle here now:

I updated her hood cloak into an anorak/raincoat thing because it’s still cute and red but also practical for a wandering kiddun - rainproof AND highly visible in the dark! - plus she can do the hood thing with the strings as seen in the doobles

(Bonus little bow on the back, because it’s cute and references Usul usually always having bows on their tails like in her very first design before it was ditched)

I can’t remember if it’s hiking/camping practical to wear jumpers but the child deserves to be warm and she most likely has at least two more layers under there

Also gave her a backpack so she can keep her knicknacks and light camping supplies for her hikes (but most importantly snacks)

I tried emulating her original hairdo which kind of varies from art to art anyhow but it looks like she’s kind of just got a short bob so i went with that. She gets bad hood hair aaaallll the time.

Drawing funny animals in clothes is weird because I never know whether I should make an effort to tailor their clothing to their extra features like tails and ears but I kinda tried with the hood and coat

Long off trail walks in a skirt must kind of suck so she’s either wearing cycling shorts or skorts idrc

Honestly she seems like the kind of kid who’d be made of plasters especially given she frolics around the woods with all those pointy trees and rocks to bump into and ghosts and beasties to run from

I figured she can have some proper walking boots and hiking sockies while we’re at it

I turned her old school lantern into a camping lantern since this kind of goes into a more modern look. but tbh the old school candle lantern was also nice to fit her aesthetic, and Neopets is full of anachronistic tech anyhow

Watercolors´practice!

So i got some watercolors in December and I finally decided to use them!

I got invested in my AU... a young eliv thade becomes very attached to Gilly, an older girl who works at his local library 

more details under the cut !

these details are based on me and my gf’s collaborative HCs and little backstory we have made for Thade (which you could read here ~!) the gist is, Thade was born on Roo Island and has notably neglectful parents. In this AU, Gilly just happens to be a local, having moved here after her parents passed away years prior.

this AU is not a ‘traditional’ age swap in that, their ages are not the flipped versions of what we imagine ‘canon’ Thade & Gilly to be. It’s more like.. Thade is kindergarten age(6) and Gilly is an older teen (17). it’s not exactly a roleswap either.. Gilly provides company and attention for young Thade, who does not have any close relationships with anyone, and is rejected by both his family & peers. he’s pretty much focused on his special interest only, before Gilly, and now is.. overly attached. Gilly tries her best to be responsible and navigate this odd friendship, as she finds him quite sweet. A thoughtful little lad. 

there are of course.. issues... when there is a crush involved. but such things are expected from children, as much as you could expect them to have a crush on any teacher or what-have-you... It is no reason to retract Gilly’s time and attention away from this lonesome little boy. she does her best
