His son Philippe Garcin informs us that his father’s journey was as serene as the worlds that he created: “With great sadness, I inform you that my father, Gilbert Garcin, passed away in his sleep, in his 91st year. His life ended at his home, without illness, peacefully.” Garcin spent forty years managing a lamp manufactory in Marseilles; his career as an artist commenced at age 65 when he entered a regional photography contest. Garcin’s irresistible style, experience, and illumination quickly won him international renown.
