Tally Ho / Aladdin / Planet Hollywood

Aladdin opened in 1966 with one of the Strip's first neon-enhanced porte-cochéres, a freestanding sign featuring a revolving, three-sided marquee, topped with an "Aladdin's Lamp," designed and fabricated by YESCO.

Tally Ho ('62-'65)

'61: Edwin S. Lowe announces plans for Tally Ho non-gaming hotel. In the 40s the land was owned by locals Salton, Rose, and Goldberg. (Alexander & Rebecca Salton, founding members of the Las Vegas Jewish community.)

'62: Dec. 24, Opening of Tally-Ho, hotel and country club with 9-hole golf course. 322 of the 450 rooms open during “preview opening” in Dec. The hotel was alternately spelled Tally Ho, Tally-Ho, and Tallyho.

'63: Oct. 11, Tally Ho closed. “Ed Lowe made no excuses … admits he was dead wrong about a no gambling luxury hotel.” (Hertz, RJ 10/13/63)

'94: Dec., Jack Sommer, Signman Sommer Family Trust, buys the Aladdin for $80M. "When the family trust sold a major New York property in '94, Sommer needed to find a real estate investment for the proceeds to avoid substantial capital-gains taxes. The Aladdin was on the market at the time." (Simpson. RJ 8/13/2000.) Other potential buyers included Donald Trump.

'97, Nov 25: Aladdin closed. A new hotel-casino to be built on the 35-acre parcel.

'98, Apr 28: Aladdin tower demolished. Former Tally Ho rooms later demolished; Theater remains.

2000: New build of the Aladdin. Mall opens 8/17/00, hotel and casino delayed, opening 8/18/00. Cost: $1.1B.

2001: Sep., Aladdin files for bankruptcy.

2003: Aladdin sold for $635M to OpBiz investment group led by Planet Hollywood CEO Robert Earl. Sale finalized 9/1/2004.

2007: Apr. 17, renamed Planet Hollywood.

Does anyone remember those old AUs where Gil and Tarvek escape Castle Wulfenbach as kids?

well here's my take on it.

In the brief span of time between getting caught and being interrogated by the Baron, Gil and Tarvek manage to slip away and decide running away is better than being Punished (or in Vek's case,being sent home(which was worse))

They just so happen to crash land close to where Barry and Agatha are making camp and also just so happen to interrupt Barry's freak out over Agatha's Breakthrough. Barry doesn't have time to immediately make the locket, as he and Agatha need to get the heck out of dodge before Wulfenbach troops descend on their camp and he takes the boys with him because he can't in good conscience leave two young children alone in the Wastelands.

It's over a week before Barry completes the locket and, not only has Agatha's Breakthrough set the boys off resulting in a friendly blue lobster, but at least one of the boys has sussed out Barry's identity and informed the other children.

Barry quickly whips up two more lockets and has a long conversation with the kids about who the Other is and why Agatha needs to remain in hiding. It takes some convincing, but eventually, all three agree to keep the secrets. Tarvek goes so far as to agree to dye his hair and vows to hide what's happening from his family.

The children are past the point where lockets would fully suppress their Sparks, but the devices still keep it tampered down enough that they mostly remember not to enter the Maddness Place in public. (Mostly. Whichever of the trio who's not sparking typically knocks sense into the one(s) that are)

They travel together for a time as Tarvek tries to remember everything he can about the Knights of Jove and the Other's plans, but eventually Barry still decides that it's too dangerous for him to bring the kids along and leaves them with Adam and Lilith.

By the time Agatha is 15, the trio has transitioned to a romantic relationship. By the time she the boys are 18, they manage to convince Lilith to let them try studying in Paris under different aliases.

Several things happen in Paris.

1. Miriam (Agatha) befriends a lost warrior from Skifander who is so great full that Agatha remembers Barry's stories that she chooses to impart her warriors' wisdom. Their lesson schedule is often interrupted by her frequent (but friendly) clashes with...

2. The Bloodthirsty Bangladesh Dupree, who has inexplicably taken a liking to Gilbert. She just can't help but feel like she's seen him somewhere. (Maybe that portrait of a kid on the Baron's desk? Nah) One of the benefits of hanging around with Gil was definitely getting a rise out of...

3. Victorianya Stormsby, the country bumpkin, bastard of a bastard who is ever so grateful for the aid of her noble cousins. At least, that's what Tarvek wants them to think. Tarvek has stopped dying his hair and has tailor-made this persona to weasel their way back into the intelligence network of the Storm King Conspiracy. They've managed to convince his kin that she's nothing more than a harmless dupe, which has caused them to give him far too much leeway in his actions. He's even managed to inoculate her favorite cousin against slaver wasps! Finding out about his sister's death was devastating, though. She never thought that...

4. Aaronev Wilhelm Sturmvoraus has gone too far in Martellus's opinion. The desperate man had gone almost rabid when learning how their bastard cousin and her friend were both Sparks. But no one was willing to transport the two halfway across Europa after what happened to Anevka. Besides, Anya was pretty enough, and a blood test had proved she was noble enough that he wouldn't mind bedding her if Zola failed to get her act together. If Tarvek had any idea what Tweedle was thinking, it would make their skin crawl, but he wasn't the only person feeling disturbed...

5. The Maste of Paris couldn't quite put his finger on it, but something disturbed him about Colette's new friends. Gilbert appears to have dived headfirst into Paris's neighborhoods of ill-repute and has befriended not only Wulfenbach's trusted liutenant but an up and coming member of Albia's intelligence network. And while Victorianya might have the rest of her family fooled, Simon recognizes the keen gaze of her many times great grandfather in the girl's eyes. Miriam is probably the worst offender though, if that locket of hers wasn't enough to bring back troubled memories he could have sworn he heard her humming as she completed her assignments. He couldn't wait to see them go especially when their last hurrah was...

6. Getting married as a triad was both easier and harder than you may think. On one hand, the church did allow for marriages between two women and a single man, but it didn't allow for arrangements between two men and a single woman. Not to mention that they were all there under aliases, and some of them were lost heirs (all of them but shh not yet). It took some bribery, slight-of-hand, shenanigans, and several vows of secrecy, but the trio did manage to return home with a valid marriage license in addition to their diplomas. They even managed to get it in writing that the first child would be Agatha's heir and no one else.

It's probably for the best the trio only spent 2 years of study before returning to Beetlesburg. They had relished the opportunity for more 'social' experimentation, but they could only keep the acts up for so long. They did try to keep in touch with their new allies even as they were forced to ditch their aliases.

(Tarvek also came to the realization that they quite liked being a girl, but didn't want to be one all the time. Gil and Agatha swiftly got into the habit of asking her for his pronouns every morning)

They've only been back in Beetlesburg for 7 months when the Baron drops in for a surprise inspection. Agatha chose to return at home after her mugging, so Vek (currently fem presenting) takes her place as lab assistant.

This time the Search Engine interrupts the Baron as he interrogates Beetle, indirectly ending the professor's life and giving Vek the chance to flee.

They return home to find that Agatha has started sleep-sparking and Gil is having an extremely heated argument with Moloch Von Zinzer that is about to come to blows.

The Baron uses knockout gas on all four of them and decides to sort things out on Castle Wulfenbach.

Midway through the journey, he recognizes Gil and takes him back to his quarters instead of leaving him in the school. Once Gil wakes up, Klaus dumps that revelation onto him before immediately trying to speed run 14 years of emotionally repressed father-son bonding.

Meanwhile, Agatha and Vek are in a panic once they realize Gil isn't with them when they wake up. Tarvek isn't really feeling femine anymore, but doesn't want to be recognized by his old classmates so he keeps the skirt on and lets Agatha do most of the talking. Agatha, once again, convinces the students to help her before making their way out of Von Pinn's domain. The duo ran into the Jaeger Generals during this mess, as well as Dupree, who does know that Gil is the lost heir now, but is down for the chaos of helping them escape.

(Adam and Lilith still try to intervene and still get shredded, but this time Klaus will be the one to stitch them back together.)

The trio make it off the airship and manage to make contact with Zeetha who was in the area traveling with a circus before setting off to Mechanicsburg so that Agatha can claim her throne.

Meanwhile, Klaus has finally recognized Tarvek and fears that the dastardly Sturmvoraus Prince has duped his son and the Heterodyne that travels with them. Or worse,

“We need to start having the meeting somewhere warm come November and December,” Arthur chattered as he fumbled with the keys to his London townhouse. Meetings were a nightmare to begin with. But amid the holidays and the cold, everyone was even more distracted than usual. “Forgive me, love. I haven’t been here since mid-November. It will take a minute to warm up. But we could get a fire going.” 

Ludwig followed him inside and into the small but cozy living room. Arthur always complained about the London townhouse feeling empty and far from homey. But Ludwig liked it. The small grooved patterns along the molding, the dark wooden frames of the living room set (surely almost one hundred years old knowing his lover), the knitted blanket thrown across the back of the couch made by Arthur himself. Ludwig had watched him make it for months when they had started regularly spending time together. Just watching his hands at work was so soothing in those dark days after the wars. All this to say, even though it held fewer memories than the cottage in the countryside, it still felt like home for Ludwig because Arthur was written all over it.  Just what he needed.

“At least I have the Christmas tree and garland up,” Arthur thought aloud. He flipped the switch, washing the room in a warm, gold light.

“You clearly have your priorities straight,” Ludwig teased, already setting up a base to start the fire.

“I can do it, Ludwig, you just…sit.”

“I got it. Why don't you prepare our drinks?”

Arthur’s lips flapped with hums and choked sounds. “Fine…” he finally weaseled out. 

Fire roaring, heat on low for later, and beer in hand, the two lovers retired to the couch. 

“Some mulled wine would be nice right about now,” Arthur murmured, curling into Ludwig’s side. 

“You’re still shivering,” Ludwig whispered. He pulled the knitted blanket down and wrapped it around them. 

“Alfred served some spiked peppermint hot chocolate when he, Matthew, and I got together last time. I think he sent me the recipe. Perhaps we could try it later?”

Ludwig hummed, pulling his lover closer. “Maybe. But I can’t have too much. I still have to get myself back to the hotel.”

“You don’t have to go back to the hotel. You know my door is always open.”

Ludwig took a long swig of beer, trying to hide the growing blush. “B-But Gilbert is expecting me. You know how he can be.”

Arthur shifted a bit, his shoulders tensing. 

“I know you mean well, but…” Ludwig fumbled.

“We spent the night at each other’s places all the time. Why is now–”

“You and I both know people talk. I know you promised nothing like that would happen until I gave the word, but…”

Arthur sighed and reached up to cradle Ludwig’s face. “I understand. I won’t pressure you, okay?”

Ludwig leaned into the touch, pressing a kiss against the edge of Arthur’s palm.

“Now, how about a Christmas movie?” Arthur proposed, quickly changing the subject. He flicked through the channels until he reached one that ran all kinds of Christmas rom-coms. As repetitive and unrealistic as they were, it was a guilty pleasure of Arthur’s. He looked over to Ludwig sheepishly. 

Ludwig just smiled and nodded. As if Arthur had to ask; it was a guilty pleasure of his as well. 

The hours blurred together until it was nearly midnight. A little tipsy after the beers and spiked hot chocolate, Ludwig swayed to his feet. “I should get going,” he mumbled, staggering to the entryway.

“Wait,” Arthur called, following in a stumble. “Ludwig, it’s late…a-and you don’t look very…steady.”

“I’ve gotten home far drunker.”

“But you aren’t home, are you?”

Ludwig paused for a moment. “You promised you wouldn’t pressure me," he finally said with a breath.

Arthur grabbed Ludwig’s arm. “I know but–”

The words jammed in his throat when Ludwig opened the door. Thick snowflakes plopped about, and a few inches packed the roads and walkways. A strong gust of wind cut against their cheeks, leaving them even redder. 

“I’m not letting you out there. It’s freezing. It won’t be easy to get a bus or anything back to the hotel–”

“I’ll walk.”

“You’ll do no such thing.”

“Arthur."

Arthur threw his hands up. “Fine, fine. Go out, slip on ice, lose your balance, crack your head open.”

“I just don’t want Gilbert to worry…” Ludwig paused for another moment , gripping the door as a wave of dizziness hit him. How much did Arthur put in that hot chocolate? “A-And I don’t want a repeat of the 90s…You don’t deserve to be threatened like you were.”

“Oh Ludwig…”

Arthur took Ludwig’s arm more gently this time. Without any resistance, he spun Ludwig around and pulled him close.

“Don’t worry about me,” he murmured. “I’m touched you’re worried about me, but do you know how I would feel letting you go out in that cold, and something were to happen to you? You’re already swaying as it is.”

“But–”

“And Gilbert would be even more angry at me for letting something happen to you.”

“But our colleagues…”

“Already tease us. What’s a bit more? Better than passing out in the snow. And I’m sure enough glares and maybe a bit of yelling from you will shut them up.”

A ghost of a smile tickled Ludwig’s lips. Arthur grabbed his collar and pulled him down into a quick but sweet kiss. Ludwig held onto Arthur’s waist, steadying them. 

“You make very good points,” Ludwig mumbled, keeping Arthur close, noses brushing against each other. 

“And here I had 97 more reasons lined up,” Arthur snickered. “How about one more drink and then bed?”

“Trying to get me drunk?”

“No, I’m trying to get myself drunk.”

“Arthur,” Ludwig warned with a glare. Though it lost some of its usual intimidation with his hair undone, hanging in his eyes. He always looked adorable like that. 

“Fine, fine,” Arthur sighed, tugging Ludwig back to the living room. “But maybe we should sober up before heading to bed? Maybe even watch one more Christmas movie.”

Ludwig smiled softly. “Okay.”

They never did make it to bed. After finishing their glasses of water and only making it halfway through the current movie, they passed out on the couch, Arthur sprawled across Ludwig’s chest. Neither had such a peaceful sleep.

Thoughts on Stoatboy Tolys as a massive animal nerd:

He is almost certainly based on the Eurasian Stoat (Mustela erminea), since I would be very surprised if he would be based on the American Stoat (Mustela richardsonii) or Haida Ermine (Mustela haidarum). Fun fact: Eurasian Stoats are native to northern Eurasia (obviously), but they can also be found in northern North America! I’m having a lot of trouble figuring out which subspecies of Eurasian Stoat are in Lithuania, but my guess is that he’s the aestiva subspecies. I’d love to be corrected if I’m wrong though! 

He appears to be in his winter coat, which makes sense as it is winter in Lithuania at this point in time. His summer coat would be much more brown, and he would maintain a black tail-tip. His winter coat is likely much softer, silkier, and more dense than his winter coat. So if you only get one chance to pet him, wait until it gets cold. He probably moults twice a year, in the spring and autumn. In the spring his moult would start at the top of his head and move down, and in the autumn it would move in the reverse direction and be significantly quicker. Because his moult would be controlled by the amount of sunlight he’s exposed to, it might be possible that you could control his coat type and moults by locking him in a basement with no windows and carefully controlling the amount of time the lights are on. He’d also probably have a musk since mustelids are Like That. What would it smell like? Who knows. Because it’s Tolys it might smell good, but because he’s also a Stoat it might smell like. A Stoat. 

He’s likely a carnivore, eating primarily meat. Though since he used to be human, he’d probably still eat plants edible to him to supplement his diet. As he’s male, when he hunts, he may tend to go after larger prey than he would if he were female. For regular Eurasian Stoats that would mean rabbits, and since Gilbert has quite the history of canon Bunnyboy-ification, Stoatboy Tolys may view him as potential prey! The exact cause of the “weasel war dance” is still not fully understood. It could be to hypnotize prey as popularly thought, or it could be due to an infection. So maybe Tolys would do that regularly, or maybe he’d only do that if sick. 

Tolys eternally guarding the border makes a lot of sense Stoat-wise since Eurasian Stoats do in fact guard territories! He probably has multiple dens (or at least some sort of homes) within this territory. I think it would be really funny if during the breeding season (April to July) his Human brain and Stoat instincts would have to battle it out to see if he’ll maintain his duty of guarding the border or if he’ll wander off to search for someone into Stoatboys, as male Eurasian Stoats do. It’s also likely he would be poly. If he ever has kids somehow, his Human brain and Stoat instincts would probably once again have to battle it out to see if he’ll uphold his Human morals and help raise them or if he’ll be a deadbeat dad, since male Eurasian Stoats are unfortunately pretty shitty fathers.

Arthur and Ivan’s code names being “the Lion and the bear” and because they’re silly they give the kids animal code names too, like you got kiwi (bird) for Eli, Joey (as in baby kangaroos) for Jack, Al is actually like Raccoon bc he thinks he’s rlly sneaky but actually makes a ton of noise even when trying to be “quiet”. They never officially picked one for Matt but Ivan started calling him “cub” one day and it stuck.
