hello! so i was lucky enough to snag a ticket to the tgcf donghua s2 fan screening right here in singapore, so here's a short report on the happenings! under the read more as there will be spoilers including those from the novel

arrived at around 1:20pm and it already looked like a full house! lots of people queueing at the photobooths and stuff, LOTS of cosplayers, mainly hualian and beefleaf. after a while i asked an usher about the merch booth but it was already closed due to the long queue, so i just went to find my seat which was near the back (in front of a bunch of cosplayers haha)

the hall had at least eight screens but none were positioned in a way where i didn't have to turn/crane my neck lol i can still feel the strain

the screening itself started at about 10 minutes past 2pm! we first had some voice actor greetings first, both of shi qingxuan's voice actors seemed to have received the loudest cheers from my pov! all of them ended their greeting with 天官赐福，百无禁忌

there was also a quick announcement of another tgcf collab cafe in 2024! sg just keeps winning and winning

after that we finally started the screening with a recap of s1 starting from the cart scene all through the banyue arc. xie lian's lines were all newly voiced by his new voice actor deng youxi, and he sounded alright to me! (note: not 100% sure that he did replace jgt's voicing but that's what i remember, correct me if im wrong!)

more than an hour of s1 later, we smoothly transitioned into the first episode of s2, and the following are some highlights and points:

s2 is still based on the unrevised novel as far as i can tell

everyone loves shi qingxuan!!

ghost city is very extravagant and fun! lots of quirky ghosts, there's joss paper flying around everywhere

xl's 不举 was omitted even though it's already rated m18 lol

the part where hc teaches xl to shake the dice has a lot of hand touching and cute reactions from the ghosts and sqx and lqq

a LOT of teasing leading up to the reveal of hc's true form, they'd show part of his face, his hand, his boots, and when he stepped out from behind the curtain and xl laid eyes on him for the first time there were shoujo bubbles

also A LOT OF SCREAMING FROM THE AUDIENCE tbh it was already loud enough throughout the gambling scene it was just hilarious

frankly i couldn't see hc clearly cuz, bad seat, but we all know how he looks like anyway

idk if it's just mE but the audio of the entire screening had its pitch raised, all the songs were a key higher, everyone sounded higher-pitched...... to ward people from secretly recording it?

feels bad for fulgur cuz it feels like most of the audience didn't care about him? half of them left their seats for the photobooths during his q&a segment

quiz time was interesting......

for "what is hc's weapon?" the host accepted the answer E-Ming, as in the person who answered said cAPITAL LETTER OF THE ALPHABET E which i would personally not accept as correct but o wells

the last question was "what did hc give to xl at the end of s1?" and the lucky person who answered very precisely said "his ashes in the form of a ring" and the host went aRe YoU sUrE and tried to make us recall an oBjEcT and i think we were all second-guessing ourselves there lmao please get a host who did their homework next time

pretty sure that was a huge spoiler for donghua-only fans tho HAHA

after the event was over i hung around texting friends and then tried to see if the merch booth was available but all the nice merch was sold out, and frankly just thinking of trying the queues at the photobooths was mentally draining so i just left haha

overall it was a great experience! watching and reacting together with so many other fans is truly a rare experience and despite going solo i had fun!

excellent door gifts too, the acrylic stand is of great quality and is now set up and sitting on my mxtx shelf~

大家好! On the days when I'm not in the office, I mostly wear athleisure and the bags that pair best with these outfits are those which look sporty, including sling and cross body ones. My Anta backpack, which I'd bought 4 years ago to carry my laptop around is still good as new, so when I wanted a sling cum cross body bag, this was the brand I checked out first. Food prices remain elevated, so I don't wish to pay extra for gimmicky 'premium' or 'luxury' features which cost far more than they're worth. Instead, my priorities are durable fabric, good quality zips and strong stitching in a classic design. I found that with Anta and bought 2 in black in case Pa wanted 1 too. Guess what, he did, and he was so excited to receive his little gift. I've used this cross body already and love it!

Pa's shrimp and egg fried rice from the Hong Kong food court stall smelled so good, I had to try it. Mummy wanted to try it too, so I ordered us a portion each with an added sunny side up and a plate of choy sum in oyster sauce for us to share. The rice was indeed as fragrant as Pa described it; Mummy and I agreed that it rivals Ding Tai Fung's version, except it boasts higher wok hei (breath of the wok). Because I'd asked for less oil and salt, it wasn't too greasy nor too salty, just the way we like it. I'll be back for this again, as well as to try the other stall's dim sum.

What better to eat during a catch up with LL, my expat friend from China, than comfort food? Besides not having adequate nourishment, chilly rainwater during winter seeps into Palestinians' makeshift tents, soaking mattresses, blankets and rugs. Without proper waterproof tents, sufficient hot food, warm clothes and bedding, how many more will perish? As I tucked into a hot bowl of yong tau foo with bittergourd, brinjal, carrot, radish, okra, broccoli, Chinese mushroom, tau kwa and egg, my mind wandered over to the people of Gaza. And I felt so sorry for them.

Surprisingly, the US managed to broker a truce between Hezbollah and Israel with help from other countries. I'm relieved that 1 conflict in West Asia is hopefully resolved. Now for a truce to be reached between Hamas and Israel for some long-overdue peace in the region. I hope that will happen soon. Recently I came across another video of a Palestinian in Gaza cooking with canned luncheon meat. Imma buy a can of plant-based luncheon meat soon and share his clip probably 1 or 2 weeks later. It's my small way of saying I see you, I eat with you, my heart is with you. Until peace returns to the strip, I hope it brings a little comfort to Palestinians there. 下次见!

January 2024!!!

hello friends, i made it in time before January ends! hahaha

i got my very first GPA! and it's... drum rolls please... 3.95/4! 🎉✨ alhamdulillah if it not for Allah's numerous help, wouldn't be here 🥺 now it's time to prepare and plan and strategize for second semester and keep up with the good work!

here comes the best part of January: my coldplay Singapore trip! this trip is the first time i'm taking my sister with me as it's also her bday gift from our parents, and as you've probably guessed, i took care of everything lol even from renewing our passports to making itinerary list and public transportation route maps... but it was fun! i love making sure everything is under control 😂

but of course things don't always go by our plan because my flight to Singapore got delayed for almost four hours, and we arrived at Changi airport close to midnight. that also meant the last MRT train to city had already departed, and we were forced to take taxis. then of course yet again taxis are so hard to find it's so jarring the difference of night life in Jakarta vs Singapore lol so we had to take Grab Car ride which was a lot more expensive (S$ 32.4 or roughly 378,000 IDR! by cash!) i literally almost tried to kip a night at the airport but decided against it at the end because in the morning we have to be at the stadium 🤪 (spoiler this trip is all about rushing here and there lol) so yeah took a 13 mins car ride to our hotel and met kak Regina, my first coldplay twitter mutual i'm meeting on this trip! 12 am and exhausted from the flight, we all went to bad after a lil chit chat.

next morning is finally d-day! Jan 27th 2024 i won't forget you ever 🥺 i was gonna be super ambitious of getting barrier to the point i want to leave the hotel at 6.30 AM but you can't deceive your age lol ok well i was just so tired and i have early entry ticket anyway so i deferred a bit and went to the stadium at 8 AM instead hehe. fun part is kak Regina was told by local uncle a shorter route to reach Singapore Sportshub complex and that's the route we took, so instead of spending so much time at the MRT and walking to the station, we took a short bus ride and then walk a straight line from Geylang road to the Sportshub outer door near Nicoll Highway. surprisingly (not) i love the walking route because masyaAllah Singapore is so clean and i loooooove walkable cities it's my dream to live in one 🥺🥺🥺 we arrived at the stadium at around 8.30 AM, and of course there was no queue yet and the Kallang Wave Mall wasn't even open yet, so what did we do? sit down next to the entrance gate and enjoy the morning breeze, no pollution whatsoever... it was so calm and peaceful!

at 10 AM my sister left us to go sightseeing at Orchard rd with her friends while me and kak Regina decided to go eat breakfast at Kallang Wave Mall, to eat at this food court named My Kampung. this was the time i met three of my coldplay mutuals! one from is Sri from Pekalongan, Indonesia and two are ate Andrea and ate Abbie from the Philippines! it was nice all of us talk a lot about coldplay and lil bit of kpop, exchanged gifts, and took pics 💙 also here in this mall everywhere you look you'll find so many people coming down after finishing their workouts. again i envy Singaporeans so much they have this sports complex where you have ALL you need to accommodate their sports activities and then a living public area to shower and eat after, all connected to every line of public transportation system...

12.30 PM i left the group because i had to collect the special fabric wristband for early entry VIP ticket holders, and there was a lil queue, not much people start queueing. here i met another coldplay mutual bang Tulus from Indonesia!

(edit: 29/02/2024 - it's always the coldplay show posts that i procrastinate bc i have so many things to say YET no time to write it down!)

after getting my Kubik blue fabric wristband, came the dreaded part of going to concerts: queueing 💀 i swear to God, Singapore's temp was so hot that day, it's funny because days before it was full raining... not sure whether to be grateful or not because if it rained it'd be damp, if the sun's scorching hot we'd be sizzled. and sizzled we were! bang Tulus introduced me to his two other friends, the lovely kak Afi and bang Reza, both who have had the lucky opportunity of meeting Chris before! we set a strategy on how to get barrier, and thankfully i reserved a spot on the very front of the queue line.

4 PM, it was finally the time to enter the venue! (not yet the stadium, YES there were two different queues) and thanks to our organized strategy we got barrier when we were allowed to enter the stadium 🥺

(edit: 15/03/2024 - lol i’m buried in my assignments i’m so sorry for the very late update 😭)

barrier spot is always the best for me, though the minus point is that you don’t get the full view of everything - but i get to see Chris, Jonny, Guy, and Will sooo up close! almost got a fist bump from Jonny but his hands were too far 🥲

anyways again i can’t write down the whole story because honestly it’s an experience where i think words can’t do it justice! i just remember how much fun i have, seeing coldplay tour crews walking around (Anna Lee the tour photographer took a pic of us!!! and our pic is included in the band’s tour app gallery!!! and also Mike the camera guy he was in our section a lot hahah), the confetti cannons in front of us literally shooting hundreds of confetti into our mouth and pockets lol.

i’m always so emotional every time i get to the end of the show, listening to A Wave as the credit title rolls, seeing people leaving the stadium… listening to the studio mastered ver of it is already a tearjerker moment but hearing it live at the end of your show? man. i got so overwhelmed i think i spent a few minutes just taking it all in. trying to permanently carve the memories onto my brain. i’m so lucky i get to find happiness in everything everywhere everyone i’m so so so happy!!!

also at the end i get to meet Isha finally! we were separated at the start of the concert because she wanted a spot near A stage. we took pics with confettis and i’m sure we were one of the few who exited the stadium the last 😂 in retrospect i was one of the first to enter with my early entry ticket and the last one to leave? 😂😂 that’s so on brand of me 😆 then i went to the merch exchange spot to get the early entry special package and i’m so sad they cut off my fabric wristband! 😭 then i said goodbyes to kak Afi, bang Tulus, bang Reza… what a wholesome bunch 🥹🫶🏻

this show i’m only sad about not getting to meet Tugce (from Germany) and P’Bogey, P’Nummon, and P’Pang (from Thailand) because i was already in queue line and couldn’t get out 😭😭😭 next show i will make it through ☝🏻

11 PM, finally i went back to my hotel, the MRT was so packed i’m glad kak Regina knew a trick to make sure we don’t get stuck (from MRT Stadium you get on the train to Paya Lebar direction and drop off at the MRT Mountbatten station, then walk the rest to Geylang area it’s a straight route you won’t get lost, thank me later!) and we arrived at around 11.30.

can you believe we spent HOURS outside so we were drenched in sweat and i ordered everyone to take a shower lol and we couldn’t waste time because we have to get to the airport at 3 AM though our flight is on 7 AM (it’s our Asian blood behavior of always make sure you’re at the airport t-3 hours!!!) as the timekeeper naturally i didn’t slept at all 🤡 made sure everyone packed everything and then ordered the taxi! Isha tagged along because she didn’t want to spend more money though her flight is on 2 PM 😭

kinda a heartfelt moment when we finally part ways (kak Regina’s boarding gate is at T2, mine’s at T4, Isha’s at T3) and also thinking this is the end of such a chaotic fun messy spontaneous trip 😆 forever grateful coldplay got me into this adventure of a lifetime! my 2017 coldplay Singapore show is memorable because it’s my first but this second one… it’s so special because i get to meet so many of my best friends from all over the world 🥹

only spent less than 48 hours in Singapore but the energy i got is enough to fuel me for the second semester. my heart is so warm and full… 🫶🏻 so many things i never even imagined are happening, things i used to think can only happen in daydreams… i feel like a tide is about to turn and i’m so excited! there’s this phrase Chris wrote on his piano, “open + surrender” and it reminds me so much of the concept of tawakkul! i firmly believe in it and i’m glad i never wavered - time is indeed your best friend!

This is for @marvelmaree and her birthday challenge.

Another email buzzed into your phone, your fingers anxiously twitched around it desperate to answer and solve all your problems. But it was never that easy.

You were a headstrong and independent woman who always strives to take care of yourself without the help of anyone. You didn’t need anyone to take care of you, but the situation you were in right now made you consider otherwise.

You made phone call after phone call and nothing was working and soon you would be flat on your butt with nothing but your dream job to keep you up. But it really didn’t matter because in the end you would get everything figured out and back on your feet.

For right now you’d focus on your boss and helping him shop for his upcoming business trip. You were supposed to meet your boss Erik Stevens in the watch shop about ten minutes ago but you were a bit weighed down with all the bags you were carrying.

You stopped to rest on a bench, you had a few work calls to make anyway. A loud sigh of relief escaping your lips when the weight of the back. You were just catching your breath when you heard a chuckle come from the stand in front of you.

“It’s okay to ask for help. There’s no reason a young lady like you should be carrying all those bags by herself.” The older man smiled kindly at you. You smiled back and quickly got up from the bench, you didn’t have to explain yourself to anyone. Erik offered to join you to pick up his online orders, but you assured him that his time was better spent on the conference call that he wrapped up ten minutes ago, and that the bags wouldn’t be too much for you to handle on your own.

Eventually you make it to the watch shop, and made eye contact with Erik as you entered the shop loudly with all the bags in your petite hands. Erik’s eyes roll over your form, his jaw clenching as he sees the amount of bags in your possession. He quickly marches over to you and snatches the bags from you. Picking them up effortlessly he bends down to whisper in your ear.

“Next time, we go together.” His anger is thick and understandable, you quickly look away from his eyes and nod. Silence seems like the best response at the moment.

You stand behind Erik to watch him pick out another sharp looking watch. It was his obsession, he loved his watches. Sometimes he would send you to go get them cleaned or fixed but most times he’d rather go himself, regardless of how busy he was.

As his personal assistant he demanded you tag along, especially when times were busy like today. Most of the time he liked having you around for the company, but also because he says having a beautiful girl like you on his arm warded off the desperate attempts some women took to shoot their shot.

Erik was a well known CEO of a huge engineering firm, frequently recognized by business magazines and publications, he easily became one of the western world's most sought after bachelors. So it’s no surprise that women recognized him sometimes and approached him when they felt necessary.

Erik held conferences, did interviews, and held charity galas all the time, working for him paid well, and he treated his employees with respect and cherished anyone who worked hard with him. You admired him and truly enjoyed working for such a determined man.

Erik finished up with the clerk and got his items wrapped up. While waiting he watched how you nervously kept checking your phone. The nervous tick of biting your bottom lip was a dead giveaway. After 5 years of working together Erik knew you well. He could tell when things were bothering you, he trusted you to tell him the truth about his company and a lot of the decisions he made. So any look of unease had him on alert as it usually signaled something that could be a problem with the company.

Annnnd he had a bit of a crush on you, he knew you had a crush on him too, but it was quietly determined that the two of you would not pursue it. The mutual attraction was obvious between the two of you, but you worked hard to bury it deep. Mainly because you worked so well together.

Erik grabbed your chin gently, his thumb forcing you to release your bottom lip. You looked up at him with your eyes wide as saucers. The grip on your phone tightened when you noticed Erik lick his lips staring down at you.

“What’s the matter?” Erik nodded towards your phone. You were a bit shook and quickly pulled yourself out of his grip and closed your phone pocketing it and smiling up at your boss.

“Nothing! Are we ready to go?”

Erik’s eyes squinted at you and nodded as he held up his packaged watches. You lead the way out of the store and towards his car. He put the bags in the trunk and you quickly hopped into the passenger seat after he opened it for you. You quietly murmured thank you and pulled out your work phone to see what was next on the agenda for the day.

Erik has a huge business deal coming up that required his travel to Singapore. Normally you’d travel with him for deals as big as this one, but this one was so important that he would be gone for about 2-3 weeks, maybe having to be back and forth a bit longer if everything went really well… or really bad. This trip required a lot of preparation on his part and yours and he left in two days, so it’s imperative that he complete his travel shopping today.

Erik climbs into the driver's seat and pulls off from the curb.

“Okay you have an appointment at Grisham Mall for those suits, then-“ Erik cut you off and held his hand out for your phone.

“Give it to me.” His voice is deep and rough. You go to hand him your work phone confusion etched on your face. “The other one.” His eyes cut towards you. “I’m not playing with you.” Your brain shorts. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, you were used to Erik’s moods and for the most part they turned you on more than anything.

“Why! It’s not that deep Erik.”

“Then give me the fucking phone so I can see what’s got you so nervous. Or you could just tell me.” Erik’s face was serious, he could always tell when you were trying to keep things from him.

You sigh and hand over your phone with the email detailing your eviction from your apartment.

Erik’s face got tighter as he read the email, his jaw clenching and unclenching.

“How did this happen?” He glanced briefly at you.

“I think someone stole my identity.” The words slip from your mouth, you’d been trying to handle it on your own this entire time, but things were worse than you perceived them to be.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed deeply, his frustration clear. "How long has this been going on?"

"About a month." You shrunk a bit under his intense gaze, embarrassed to give him the answer.

"You've been dealing with this for a whole month and didnt say anything?" Erik knew you were headstrong and independent, he just never knew how deep that went.

You shrugged, "I'm handling it. I just need to talk to my leasing office and ask for an extension on rent. It's nothing to worry about."

Erik chuckled, mocking you under his breath. “Nothing to worry about” Erik grabbed your wrist, "The hell it is." He reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a black Amex card.

"Here, pay your rent and everything else with this. I'll get Marcus on the phone and have him figure out who stole your identity." He flicked the card at you like it was a $10 Walmart gift card. You instinctively tried to push it back to him, but thought better of it when you saw the glare on his face. It's best to pick your battles with Erik and now was definitely not a good time to argue with him. He hates when you hide big things from him.

You grabbed the card and gave him a small but genuine smile, the relief and frustration fought for domination on your face. "Thank you so much Erik. I promise I'll pay you back."

"Don't worry about it. It's nothing."

You shook your head vigorously. "Bullshit! I'm paying you back one way or another."

Erik rolled his eyes, but he didn't argue. You made your way to the mall. Erik was on the phone giving Marcus a rundown of your situation so he could get started. The two of you made it to the next mall to pick up the suits. Shortly after he hung up, his phone rang again.

He greeted them with a simple "Erik." You couldn't help but eavesdrop, hey some could say it was part of your job, especially when Erik's face quickly morphed into shock.

"How the hell am I supposed to do that?" He said.

There was a bit more conversation. “Why the hell did no one see this being an issue earlier. I specifically asked what were their core values!!” Erik's face grew more frustrated as it continued before he said a quick goodbye and hung up.

"Is everything ok? Did something go wrong with the Singapore trip?" You waited a few moments before asking.

"That was Jeff. He was able to do the values and moral eval on the owners and it's about what we expected, except for the part where they truly believe a businessman needs to be married and involve his wife in the processes of the business. They like the idea of a family guy basically.” Erik rolled his eyes. “Some bullshit about how there might be another competitor with values that line up more. Jeff's suggesting I need to find a fake wife for the trip to stay in their good graces. How the fuck am I going to find someone suitable in 2 weeks?" Erik pinched the bridge of his nose, his nostrils flaring in frustration.

You immediately started racking your brain sifting through all of the women you knew who could maybe handle the job. It had to be someone who knew their way around a company, even better if they had experience in the types of mergers Erik did. They had to get along with Erik- which was pretty difficult once he got to know them- enough to convince the owners that it was a real marriage. They had to be free during the 2-3 week period he would be in Singapore, and be able to do all of this under short notice. Not to mention all of the other factors like facilitating business meetings, building rapport, etc.

Erik suddenly stopped walking, and you were so deep in thought that you ran into his broad back, almost knocking yourself to the floor.

He quickly wrapped an arm around your waist to steady you, pulling you close to his side. He smelled so damn good!

"That's it! I don't know why I didn't see it sooner!" Erik smiled brightly.

"See what?" You tilted your head in confusion. He smiled softly and moved a few pieces of your hair back into place. "You can be my wife. You know everything about the company, we've been working together for years so we won't have to worry about that. It's perfect!"

The thought of it alone brought a euphoria you've never felt before, which was terrifying. There's no way you'd be able to handle pretending to be Erik's wife! You barely held it together working alongside him these past few years.

You shook your head, "Erik, I'm sure there's someone else who would work better for this. Plus someone is going to have to handle your day to day operations while you're gone."

He smirked, "I'll have Gina take that over, no problem. Besides, weren't you just talking about how you were going to pay me back? Do this for me and I'll consider us even. Think of it as overtime."

Damn, he had a point. You would just have to guard yourself during this trip then. You can't allow yourself to get caught up. He was right though. He's done so much for you, it'd be nice to be able to help him out for once.

You looked into his eyes and nodded.

大家好! Hari Raya Puasa fell on Wednesday in Singapore, marking the end of Ramadan. This year's holy month for Muslims has been sombre as they - and non Muslims alike - watched in horror at the devastation in Gaza. There was no respite for Palestinians; if they had anything at all to break their fast with, it was canned beans, lentils or peas. Ravaged by hunger - famine in Northern Gaza - babies and children wasted away and some began dying. About 300 aid trucks have finally entered the area, 60% of the 500 aid trucks which used to enter before the war. It's not anywhere near enough.

The official Palestinian civilian death toll stands at over 33,000 to date. This doesn't take into account victims who remain buried under the rubble from destroyed buildings, deaths from malnutrition and hospital patients who perished because there weren't enough medicines or the hospitals were raided. Over 75,000 have been injured as a result of this war. The unofficial civilian casualty numbers could very well be far higher. It's heartening to see other countries fighting back against genocide and seeking to stop arms supplies to Israel.

Since Hari Raya Puasa was a public holiday, I rested, exercised, spent time with Pa, caught up on current affairs and nourished myself with a bottle of birds' nest, a gift from N. I also had a simple breakfast of cheese and crackers out of compassion for Palestinians' suffering. Robbed of a truly joyous Aidilfitri this year by Israel's war in Gaza, many Muslims globally celebrated the festival of breaking fast with heavy hearts. Hopes for a ceasefire just before Ramadan, and then, in time for Hari Raya Puasa, were dashed.

Moved by the extent of Palestinian suffering, Singapore continues to raise funds for Gaza. Malaysian Muslims also extended Aidilfitri wishes. As I tucked into a hearty breakfast of chicken, braised flower mushrooms and bee tai mak (short rice noodles), I felt doubly grateful. Nutritious meals are hard to come by for the thousands of Palestinians who struggle to fill their stomachs everyday. I pray that enough food will flow into Gaza so that the effects of malnutrition can be reversed.

I no longer feel as sorry for low income people in rich countries who live in tents due to rising housing and rental costs. Their complaints pale in comparison to what Palestinians are going through. Over 1.5 million of them have to live in makeshift tents because their homes have been razed to the ground due to Israeli attacks AND fear for their lives everyday. In rich nations, the homeless can still access food banks, they can still eat, whereas up till recently, Gaza was under siege and arguably still is. Palestinians have no clean water, their children had started dying from starvation. Who is suffering way more? 下次见!
