any tips on how to start a rpt blog? perhaps some recommended themes, blogs to follow, what kind of posts to reblog/post, what to include in your navi, etc. sorry i’m new to this but want to get started!

of course!! here’s yet another makeshift guide!

i personally really enjoy @springdoy‘s themes. they’re cute and they work super well. a lot of rph’s have a theme tag that you can sift through!

blogs to follow can, really, be anyone! some of my favorites are @pocmuzings @rptpositive @gifsfm @aquariusrpc @aquariiusseason (is it obvious i'm an aquarius?) @museinspo but go into the “rpt” or “rph” tag and follow rpt and rph’s!

you can post or reblog whatever you want. themes, gif packs, plots, manips, general resources that are made by other rph’s to help spread their content. they work hard on those! you can also post things like “hey, come fill my inbox!” and things like that, so people can send you things and many rps will ask for opinions or shoutouts. we’re all here to help!

in my personal opinion, a navi should include a what i do page, an about you, rules of your blog (whether it’s for 1x1s or asking for help) and have a list of tags for the things you reblog. my example of that is here.

Hi! Haven't used Tumblr for like 3 years and I haven't rp even before that. What's in right now? What did I missed? I want back but at the same time i'm intimited that I don't know a thing about the current style.

hello there and welcome back to the community !!  i took a break myself and coming back can take a bit of courage, though. the community changed a lot in my opinion ; positive as well as negative things happened. while i haven’t been in a group for years  (  i’m only getting back as we speak  )  i can only give you advice for indie rping and perhaps general roleplaying :

an aesthetic / graphics and overall pleasing image is considered important. while it surely isn’t everything, having an accessible and neat theme will help you gain attention. i highly recommend checking out the themes in my tag here. please note that you need to pay for some in order to support the creator !

gif icons and roleplay icons that are heavily edited and / or around 70px + are it right now. you can find some gif icons here and roleplay icons here. but don’t be scared, gif packs and gifs are still amazing !  find some super duper flawless gifs here.

diversity is important. use poc, trans, non-binary and lgbta+ muses. the time is now.

using small font, sub text and bold / italics, double space, special fonts  (  for example messletters.com  ) is fun, too. play around and find your style.

answered asks, especially if formatted, will look wobbly if posted. thanks to a tumblr update the format will disappear and therefore templates and banners are commonly used for answered messages. here are some templates for you. so, for example :  if you receive a meme from a partner, you answer it by posting your banner and your reply beneath / above. in that case the formatting won’t disappear and you can tag your partner.

commissions are very much a thing  !  you need rp icons, psds or perhaps a whole new theme ?  there are great  people out there, if you have some spare money and don’t know where to start. here’s the general tag. put icons, psds or themes - commissions for a more specific search. of course there are still people who offer those services for free. my dear friend @gifsfm is perfect with graphics and i can help out with psds and manips.

credit where credit is due. especially in the indie community it is common to put a credit page / section in your rules. tag the creators, your sources and so on. it’s nice and makes creators very happy.

magic anons and genderbent muses aren’t a thing anymore. 

@dear-indies are still the backbone of this community and literal angels. there are plenty of helpful resources on every topic you might need. give them a look.

i’m sure i forgot a few facts, but that is everything my brain could came up right now  !  and remember : have fun and put yourself out there. there is nothing to lose. and by all means, you don’t need to put up anything fancy. it’s not mandatory, okay  ??  you do you. if you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to drop me another message  !
