Part 1

Gideon Nav worked at a small cafe on the corner of a busy street right by your office. You’d passed it many times but you’d never thought to try it out, never given yourself the time to try something new. Until today, on this sunny Tuesday, after hearing your coworkers suggestions once again, you’d left enough time for a change in routine. 

You walk through the chiming doorway and she looks up from behind the espresso machine, obviously full of energy and exuberance. she takes you in, office clothes, beautiful hair, carabiner hanging off the belt loop. You smile up at her as she saunters over to the counter. you greet her with the same smile. However, it takes her a little longer to gather her thoughts. “heyy what can i get for you?” you tell her your coffee order and she taps it into her screen. “okayy not bad” she responds to your choice. “I'm.. glad you approve?” you say with a little question in your tone. she smiles at that, “i haven’t seen you in here before, do you work around here?”

“Uh- yeah, i work in the building with the green doors”, you motion absently through the window, down the street. “Oh, yes! Same place as iced vanilla latte and the precious old lady who doesn’t know the difference between a cappuccino and a long black.”

“I’d say those are fairly distinguishable coffees.”

“And i agree but I haven't figured out how to break that to her yet. I just have to hope I’m never out sick when she calls in and a coworker gives her the ‘wrong type’ of long black.”

You listen along politely, unsure of why she’s indulging you into her day-to-day, but you took extra time from your routine this morning so you can’t find the urge to mind. Especially when she’s looking at you with those bright golden eyes. She brushes herself off with a wave of a hand, “Sorry, I’m rambling. I’ll have your coffee in like 5 minutes”.

You thank her and step to the side to wait.

“For the pretty woman”, Gideon calls out only a couple of minutes later as she places your coffee on the counter. You step over to pick it up with a fluttery feeling in your gut, she’s smiling at you. You find yourself thinking, ‘God, she’s a flirt, no wonder everyone raves about this place’. You correct her by telling her your name and she hums in response, “I’ll remember that, I’m Gideon”. And by the lord, that suited her perfectly, with her boyish charisma and androgynous style. Then, she tops it off with “I hope to see you again soon, pretty woman” and gives you that terribly playful smile. “Didn’t you just say you’d remember my name?” You ask with your brows knitted together.

“I’d say ‘pretty woman’ suits you just as well.” 

You shake your head with a huff of amused laughter and walk out with your coffee. And it was actually a fairly good coffee, which was a perfect excuse for you to go back.

Yes my brain is currently rotting because of these two thanks for asking. The idea for this illustration was so vivid in my mind after reading the first book that I decided it was worth the time and effort I put into it!

Gideon y Harrow son muy Don de Miranda! Hasta la guitarra de Lolo que Miranda ya no puede mencionar por cuestiones legales me hace acordar a cómo se censura el nombre Gideon en HtN. Espero que haya fans argentinos de tlt que aprecien esto. Y si no, no importa, al menos yo lo aprecio. Ahre.
