Yearly check-up on Frostfang “Mason”

Meet Mason; a Frostfang Barioth - a “Varient” of Barioth which I’m not sure counts as a variant at all.

At most, Frostfang Barioths are old, really, really old.

These are wyverns that have lived long passed the usual lifespan of their kin, and are often the wisest and most powerful of their species. Even when their original fangs fall out due to old age; their mastery over ice means they simply replace them with their signature element. They simply just keep going no matter what because they’re strong enough to do so.

But Mason here is an outlier for two reasons. Not only is he a male Frostfang Barioth beyond the age of being able to sire young - but in that he “adopts” orphaned cubs and whelps of certain monsters to raise as if they were his own.

We like Mason.

Despite not being able to nurse cubs so his charges tend to be of a weening age at youngest, Mason is a very protective and diligent parent. He easily is capable of looking after several cubs at a time and not just of his own species, and hunts regularly to provide for them all.

It has been recorded that alongside his current Goss Harag charge this particular Barioth has adopted: Blango Dyuragaua Nono Orugaron Kamu Orugaron Giaorugu Lagombi 

He also sometimes recieves orphaned ice monsters from rescuers such as myself; as while it’s all fine and dandy that people can rehabilitate monsters for wild release - Mason is preferred due to the lack of human/wyverian interference.

It is astounding to find such a creature in the world, and Masons’ efforts to raise all sorts of monsters is something I find most facinating. With added backing from the Guild, Mason is gilded as a “Honorary Rescuer and Ice Patron of Monsters”; meaning he is protected by the Guild and thus his location is never disclosed and those who wander too close are often apprehended by Hunters and Rangers.

He’s a wonderful specimen, and I hope he still has many years left in him.

Oooh I'm curious to hear what non-main series monsters would you like to see in the core MH games, if they ever brought them over? For me I'd love to see Morudomunto! The theme is badass and it was so fun to fight (when MHXR was still around, RIP :'c ) Also more Neopterans like Lightenna and Carapaceons like Akura Vashimu/Jebia would be so nice too! :o

OOOOH dude I’d also love Akura Vashimu and Jebia in main series!!! Not to mention that I do think Laviente and Tartaronis are neat as hell and they’d 100% fit into mainline MH! Morudomunto LOOOKS COOL AS HELL TO ACTUALLY I FORGOT WHICH MONSTER THAT WAS... it’s so intimidating i love it I’m also a big fan of Abiorugu and by proxy Giaorugu! (FUN FACT FUN FACT FUN FACT ABIORUGU HAS BEEN INDIRECTLY MENTIONED IN MAINLINE GAMES!! i don’t know how valid this information is since it’s hearsay but apparently there’s a little lore poem about it and deviljho!!) AND a few others are also pog as hell FOR INSTANCE... I think Inagami is a great elder dragon and should be in mainline series (and same with Shantien), Pariapuria fits Monster Hunter just as much as something like Gigginox does, Vasuraburosu is a little on the far fetched side but I think a more down to earth one that’s just a firey -blos relative could be so dope!!! Odibatorasu is also extremely pog and I LOVE its theme... BASICALLY I ENJOY A LOT OF FRONTIER AND ONLINE MONSTERS I just think they’re neat :) I understand the backlash against some of the frontier shit because it’s out of the realm of possibility in MH but I dig a lot of the monstesr!

What are your thoughts on Abiorugu and Giaorugu (including his zenith form) and what you think of their ecology?

I like them quite a bit, and I think the detail of Abios often staying in pairs that need to be hunted at the same time and have different plate highlights is cool. I definitely want to make skulls for them at some point.

However they likely aren’t going to make it to mainline because Deviljho and glavenus kinda cover what they’re about.

Ecology wise they’re probably just the lite version of both glavenus and Deviljho but a little more social. And they likely use their tails in disputes with each other, which zenith individuals likely dominating in these ritualized fights due to their weird tails.

hehehe okay here we go,

dimitri: INSECT GLAIVE. anyone who says any type of lance is wrong. he’s absolutely an insect glaive, both aesthetically & gameplay wise it just matches him more. (if we’re going mhgu rules, valor playstyle as well. maybe a bit influneced by the fact that i have a mh character Kind of based off of dimitri who plays valor IG, but i just think a playstyle where someone is building up power to go into a stronger mode Fits him) for specific weapon im limited to like, mostly mhw & mhgu weapons bc i am most familiar w those, but id say like... maybe the kirin insect glaive, or the zinogre insect glaive if world wasn’t so focused on realism and made it a bit more colorful, the tobi kadachi insect glaive or the royal march banner.

for his kinsect... maybe grancathar ? (im not going by stats or anything on these just looks. look at this bug.)

as for monsters i associate with him: TOTALLY the lion duo. lunastra because that is, quite literally, a blue lion, but also teostra bc he’s a docile monster until attacked and i like being able to stand next to him :)

also zinogre, but for more personal associations, not based off of much!

im also throwing magnamalo in there for no reasn other than i just. Really associate dimitri with large fuckin fanged wyverns. ALSO KAMU ORUGARON BUT THIS LIST IS GETTING TOO DAMN LONG

dedue: hammer! i am, not too familiar with the hammer weapon tree and i also already got distracted trying to assign very specific weapons to dimitri so im not gonna do that, but hammer. also the tonfa too if we’re going outside the normal default weapons. i can also see him playing hunting horn if he’s needed for support more than offense, since its basically Hammer but Also It Can Heal People

as for associated monster... maybe giaorugu or jade barroth? :}

for monster association i instantly think of fiercewater nargacuga! idk why i associate him w water stuff but... ALSO azure rathalos cause its small blue and Real fuckin angry
