I was inspired to draw Ghoulia after seeing this incredible cosplay by @ v4ampire.doll on Instagram! Please check her out she’s amazing

I also heavily referenced the G1 original art

I so badly want this outfit irl, I had a pink cherry pattern shirt as a kid that I used to wear everywhere so I guess I’ve always been channeling ghoulia lol

It’s kind of funny that Ghoulia is the first finished Monster High piece I’ve done cause she’s not even my favourite. I have like 4 WIPs of Draculaura right now but since I love her so much I have slightly higher standards for her.

Ghoulia my beloved~!

Ghoulia is so cool I adore her.

Once again, no complaining about G3 or I will delete your comments and potentially block you. I am extremely sick of the negativity.

Ghoulia is so cool, I love her a lot. The point of this redesign was to keep her vibes while adding my own personal design choices into the mix. So, here we go!

Her eyes are crossed as I’ve seen people draw her with that before and I thought it was so cool. Her hair is less saturated, as well as her skin. I wanted to make her actual body closer to greyscale so her outfit and makeup would pop. I made her hair spikier like she has layered hair. I kept her cheekbones because we need more cheekbone girlies. You’ll also notice she has crutches! The original G1 zombie had some mobility issues, so I figured giving some of them crutches could help them get around easier.

As for her outfit, the original gave me scene kid vibes, so I tried to match it while giving her some more zombie motifs! I gave her a tank top with brain cherries to tie in both the cherries from the original as well as the brain look I was going for. Her undershirt’s stripes are more chaotic, and her pants are ripped. I gave her tons of kandis and thick bracelets, and gave her the classic scene kid two slanted belts. I made her glasses slightly less cat eyed at the tips, because I figured most of her design was already pretty spikey.

Overall I think she turned out super cute, but let me know what you all think!

I wish that Monster High had kept Ghoulia's scene look in g3. I love most of the g3 designs, don't get me wrong, but Ghoulia's just... isn't it for me. The new design just seems like sort of a mess to me, unfortunately </3

In addition to that, g1 and g3 are two alternative universes/timelines. Ghoulia from the OG timeline never learned English, while her g3 version either grew up speaking English or learned it later on. Thyre not part of the same canon, and only one of them is implied to be bilingual (I didn’t watch most of the nick animated series but I think she only speaks English in it?)

So yeah, they’re two separate characters from two separate canons.

Hey, just wanted to ask- for the Ghoulia being nonverbal vs being bilingual post, isn't your position also technically erasing the representation of someone being bilingual? I don't want to be mean or anything, but seeing people so widely argue about her being nonverbal instead of bilingual also doesn't feel great as a bilingual person

Since I’m only arguing about G1 Ghoulia that doesn’t really make sense, since she only speakers zombie and not both zombie and English. A point could be made about representing culture overstepping friendship, but we kinda have that already with all the other girls (Cleo and clawdeen being African, Draculaura being Romanian, ect) Draculaura and abbey (and technically also Cleo, since the English language didn’t even exist when she was alive) are bilingual, you have your representation there.
